Send a raw photo from lightroom to photoshop as a smart "object"

how to send a raw photo from lightroom to photoshop as a smart "object" not a flat "image" so it does not flatten the image but so I still get all the adjustments i have made in lightroom to show up in photoshop?

Select the image in Lightroom, choose 'Edit in' from Photo menu then choose 'Open as Smart Object in Photoshop'. The file will transfer to Photohop (Ps) complete with Lr applied edits which can be refined in Camera Raw by double clicking on icon in the Ps Layers panel (see screen shot).

  • Opening photo from bridge into photoshop converts to smart object

Instead of opening the psd-file normally from bridge into photoshop the file converts to smart object.
I used to work with CS3 where double-clicking in Bridge on a psd-file would open it in Photoshop. Now, when I double click in Bridge (CS6) it opens a "quick time pro" file, which I definitely don't want. When I use the right mouse to "place in Photoshop" it does so, but then automatically converts the file into a smart object, which I don't want either. What need I do to open a psd-file in Bridge as normal psd-file in Photoshop?
    Thanks in advance for help.

    Hi C. Pfaffenbichler
yes, there is a "Photoshop Document" in the list, but it has not
association. when I click on the little arrow on that line it "searches"
and shows all the files in the "program X86" on the C-drive. but I don't
know what to associate it with, or said differently, I don't know what file
in "programX86" to associate it with.

  • Sending photos from Lightroom to Photoshop - covered with colours? Opening from Bridge they are fine

Sending photos from Lightroom to Photoshop - covered with colours? Opening from Bridge they are fine.  Does anyone know how to set up the monitor from advanced to basic?  Someone said that might be the issue but I can't find any area in control panel where it has the option?

You need to supply more information and screen shots of the problem would also be useful.

Cannot edit raw photo from Lightroom 5.5 in Photoshop CS 6 I have camera raw 8.5 installed.

Sorry for getting back to you this late but I figured out the problem was
not with Photoshop but with the file itself.  I created a new file file and
was able to edit it in Photoshop from Lightroom.  Thanks again for your
response to help resolve the problem.

  • Sending photos from lightroom to photoshop to edit

In lightroom I want to sent the photo over to photoshop to edit. I select “edit in photoshop cc2014 and then get 3 option 1: edit a copy with LR adjustments 2: edit copy 3: edit original.number 1 workers sed over file but with no layers.  2 & 3 I get a message “some of the application components are missing from the application directory Please reinstall the application.  I have reinstalled both LR and PS from the cloud and the problems the same. I am on a Mac. I only just started having this problem

First I send a raw file from LR to PH you do some changes and then send it back to LR as a tiff file. when you want to send it back to PS (so you can open it with changes i.e. layers) you get get 3 option 1: edit a copy with LR adjustments 2: edit copy 3: edit original.number 1 workers sed over file but with no layers.  2 & 3 I get a message “some of the application components are missing from the application directory Please reinstall the application.
My Mac is only 6 weeks old and it did work until the cloud asked me to reinstall LR after that I get this message (some of the application components are missing from the application directory Please reinstall the application. )

  • Sending Photos from Lightroom to Photoshop

Hey guys, when I send photos from Lightroom 5 to Photoshop (CS6), make changes and return to Lightroom, I will see a new frame with the changes I have just made.  However, I notice that I lose my original enhancement settings from Lightroom.  In other words, the enhancements on the photo are still there, but the sliders from the right hand tool bar have all been reset.  Basically all the changes have been 'baked in' to the photo, so I can no longer make modify/delete the enhancements I originally made.  This is particularly important when working with brushes.
Is there anything I can do to preserve these modifiers as I go back and forth between Lightroom and Photoshop?

Thanks ssprengel.  My original image is in raw and was sending to PS using Edit In.  Good to know it wasn't user error on my part.  I'll just have to make sure in the future that all adjustments are final prior to sending to PS.
Alternatively, you can separate the LR adjustments into those that make most sense before going to PS, and those that make sense to apply afterwards (onto the image that is returned from PS into LR). The latter adjustments would not have been baked in, so would not be visible while in PS. But this would also mean they remain editable nondestructively, also they can be varied within different Virtual Copies that all refer to the same TIFF / PSD file on disk. Further edits in PS to that file, would show back into all those LR image variations, automatically.
When compatible PS and LR versions are used, there is the option to Edit in PS as Smart Object. This preserves the LR adjustments at that time, fully and nondestructively, as embedded settings that can be altered further if required, by pushing the Smart Object layer into ACR within the Photoshop environment. The updated image shows back into LR once re-saved. But any such method logically has to re-set the LR adjustments for the returned image, since otherwise those adjustments would be double-applied: once externally, and again by LR.
With Raw only "edit a copy with LR adjustments" is available. But with other image types, including those previously externally edited from LR, you can also "Edit original" and "Edit a copy" - these options retain whatever LR adjustments are active, avoid baking those in to the external edit, and re-apply them once again, to the saved result of the external edit.

  • Can't open a raw file from Lightroom to Photoshops ACR

I got used to using Lightroom 3 as a place to catalogue and store my images but still process my Raw files in Adobe Photoshops Raw Convertor. Now that I have Lightroom 5 I can't find out how to do this.  With version 3 I just highlighted say 3 files and hit command E.
I know I can open an image as a smart object and go about it that way but I can't open multiple images from Lightroom to ACR.
I know people will say '' hey well do your Raw work in Lightroom'' but I got used to using the Photoshop Raw convertor and I spent a lot of time and money learning it.
Surely there is a way to open say three images from L5 to ACR ???
Please help this has been driving me nuts, It's suggested I will need to start using Bridge but I'm bewildered and don't want to start learning something new.
    Thanks in advance.

It has been a long time since I even had Lightroom 3 installed on my computer.  I don't recall the behavior you are describing.  ACR is used to translate the adjustments made in Lightroom as the image is transferred to Photoshop.  You may have become accustomed to a certain behavior, but it doesn't work that way.  The process of moving from Lightroom to Photoshop works on the assumption that you have done your raw adjustments using Lightroom, and you are now passing that image to Photoshop.

  • All of a sudden when sending photos from lightroom to photoshop for merging, I get "photo merge.jsx could not be found.  I have used this previously without trouble

I have been working on photos in Lightroom for months and making panoramas in photoshop from lightroom without any problem.  All of a sudden, today, I get a message when I try to send photos to photoshop "Photmerge.jsx could not be found"
Anyone know where it is?  I don't find these words in my photoshop CS4 anywhere.  Help!
I tried to use an old catalogue that I've used to make panoramas with photoshop many times and I get the same message.

I'm in the same boat...so far no one has helped here

  • May i send photo from lightroom v4 to photoshop cs6 and open in camera raw?

    Hi
i have lightroom v4 last version 64 and photoshop cs6 64 last updates
i would like to send raw file from lightroom to photoshop without converting in psd or tiff but i would like to send from lightoom to photoshop the raw file
in short open the image in camera raw from lightroom
    can  i do it?
    thanks

Lightroom is Camera Raw. They're exactly the same code, provided versions are in step. Lr 4.4 = ACR 7.4.
"Edit In Photoshop" (Ctrl E) opens the image in Photoshop, just as "Open" does in ACR. And even though you open it from Lightroom, it's actually ACR that silently renders it into Photoshop. Lightroom just passes on its settings.
"Open As Smart Object" embeds the raw file into the PSD, so that you can reopen it in ACR, from Photoshop. Same function as you have in ACR to begin with.
If Lightroom and ACR versions are not in step, things get more complicated and some options are missing.

  • Opening photos from Lightroom into Camera Raw?

    Hello!
I have a little problem since I upgraded to CS4.
I used to open my (RAW) photos from Lightroom (2) into Camera Raw - it did it automatically when I clicked "edit in photoshop". Now it doesn't work anymore, and I have no idea why - it opens the pictures directly into Photoshop. I was told in the Lightroom forum that it's a functionality that was changed in CS4 and that I wouldn't be able to get to Camera Raw from Lightroom anymore.
However, I really liked my old workflow Lightroom > Camera Raw > Photoshop, and I much prefer CR's interface, so if anybody's got an idea on how to fix this, or get it to work again, it would be really great.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Maybe the following would help.
    1. In lightroom, go to: Photo>Edit In>Open as Smart Object in Photoshop.
    2. Once the photo is in photoshop, double click the Smart object thumbnail in the layers panel to open camera raw.

  • Transferring photos from Lightroom 5 to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12

I have over 4k photos installed On Lightroom 5. I recently purchased and installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 12. Can you please
advise easiest way to export photos from Lightroom to Photoshop? Am having significant difficulty. Thanks

You can't do it that way. Any attempt to poke around in the iphoto library from outside iphoto is very likely to damage the library and cause you to lose your photos, so PSE won't let you. You have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photos from iphoto, and save them without changing the name or format (you may need to adjust the editor prefs>Saving Files>On First Save to let you do this). Then iphoto will remember your original and the last edited version.
Be sure to choose this file in Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 10>Support files as your external editor, not the one at the top level of the PSE 10 folder in Applications:
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use File>Open in the PSE editor to open the images and then save them with whatever changes to name or format you like, and reimport the saved images to iphoto as new files. This way you can save as many versions as you like.

  • Exporting from Lightroom to Photoshop and back to Lightroom shows different results in Lightroom than in Photoshop

I has set the color space to ProPhoto RGB in both Lightroom and Photoshop. I have also calibrated my monitor.
But when I export a photo from Lightroom to Photoshop and edit it there before saving it, the photo in Lightroom is very different than what the Photoshop edit shows.
Photoshop is to the left, Lightroom to the right.

Ask in the LR/ PS forums and provide details about your system, your files, your develop settings, other stuff. You need to be much more specific.
