Send and returns to Auxiliary channel strips

Hi,
Does any body know how to make the Auxiliary channel strips appear on the list of possible output sends for the individual channel strips?
I would like to send a number of channels to a single Auxiliary strip but I cannot figure out how to do so.
Thank you.

THis is part of the messy way Logic uses Auxes and Busses... At least in my opinion.
But the answer is, send all the drum tracks to a bus. Either with a 'send' pot, or by assigning the output of the channels to a buss.
Logic will then create that buss (if it doesn't already exist) AND an AUX with that bus as its input.
So then, from that new AUX (which has all your drums going to it) you can add a send to another buss.
And logic will again create that buss (if need be) AND an aux with the new buss as its input. You can put your reverb or other effects on that new AUX and you're done.
I won't start the whole AUX vs. BUS debate again. Or I'll try not to. But I'm not a fan of the current system. BUT it does work.
Best idea is to create a template with your busses and auxes set up as you like. I've got 8 auxes fed by submix busses (drums, keys, lead vox, backing vox, gits, orchestra, keys, and leads) and then 8 fx auxes (fed by busses 9-18) with various reverbs, delays, etc on'em.
Good luck.

  • Panning of sends and returns

This is not an Audition question specifically, but I'm trying to figure it out in Audition, so if you can help me with it, you score just as many Adobe points.
If I route six different tracks with six different pan points via sends to a compressor on the same bus, and the compressor's panned center, will that affect the panning of each of the source tracks or will the effect be applied and returned to the source track's pan point?
CS6 doesn't have a pan setting for the send, and what I'm hearing is that the pan setting on the bus is affecting the pan setting of the source track.  How can I set up the bus so that it honors the pan setting for each of the six different tracks I'm sending to it?

If you route all of the tracks to a single compressor plugin, then they'll all come back to exactly where the compressor is panned to - they don't have a choice!
If you want the compressed results to stay in place, you either have to use it in the channel before you pan it, or use six buses, with a separate instance of the compressor in each one... probably a bit silly.
Unless you are sending a complete mix to a stereo compressor with linked channels for detection, you should be using separate compressors anyway - multiple sends to a single compressor will screw with the detector rather a lot, and the results would be entirely unpredictable.

  • When setting up an aux send and returning it to another bus, when you solo the aux bus it solos the entire return bus with all other channels mixed in.

when i set up a aux send for parallel compression from a snare drum input channel to two aux busses—one for a compressor and a second aux bus for the limiter—and send the outputs of the comp/lim aux busses to the drum buss everything works fine. However, when I solo the comp/lim aux busses the entire drum mix is in the solo as well. Is there an alternative routing scenario?

You still refuse to discuss data versus radio signal.
So, I guess that is that. You have no proof to back up your contention as neither do I.
Granted, from the g device to my Express, it is at g speeds. But, I contend, that once that g radio signal is converted back to data only (now at speed of light) inside the Express, the Express sends that data, via the exclusive “Extended network” connection, to the Extreme, at n speed. It has to as the Extreme will only take n speed.
Sure, it is splitting hairs, if I am right. I am not saying I am. But my idea (before our branch debate on g and n signal versus data upon arrival at the Express) is an interesting way to force old g clients to use only one router. But to force those pesky g clients to use the newer simultaneous dual band Express by setting the Extreme to 5GHz g only was a new solution for me. It worked too. In that case, it is not about minute speed gains or losses but simply letting the g clients have their one party at the Express, which can handle them better when part of an extended network with an older, original Extreme.
It is also far better to just have one Wi-Fi router as, adding Airport routers in an extended network, slows things down 60% or less and requires more "data management overheard", according to Apple*.
It is interesting that they said data management overhead and not radio signal management?
Alternatively, using the “Roaming network” method where the two stations are linked via Ethernet, is an even better option.

  • Difference between Sends and St-Outs

    Hello,
I watched a lot of tutorials and read manuals to stereo-outputs and sends (in the mixer). Actually both of them create an aux channel, both are leading through a bus. But whats the difference? I didnt get that because no one tells it explicitely. I understood that you can change the gain of a send to a bus, but is that the only difference? Couldn't I put a reverb not just on a send but also on a st-out?
I really need an on-point explanation
    Thank you in advance

I don't know which videos or manuals you read, but your conclusion that Sends and Output create Aux Channels can't be further from the truth.
Your question is about the basic understanding of signal routing in general. If you are familiar with reading signal flow diagrams, here is a screenshot from my book "Logic Pro X - How it Works", where I explain in great details the signal flow of audio signals and MIDI signals.
    Here is the quick summary:
Aux Send Button: The Aux Sends Button on a Channel Strip lets you route the signal to any of the 64 busses (also referred to as Aux Busses)
Output Button: The Output Button on a Channel Strip lets you route the output signal of a Channel Strip to the Ouput Busses (which represents the output channels on your Audio Interface), but also to any of the 64 Aux Busses. This is useful when you want to create Aux Groups (also referred to as "Audio Groups" or Summing Groups")
Aux Channel Strip: An Aux Channel Strip is a versatile "auxiliary" Channel Strip. On its Input, you can choose one of the 64 Busses or any of the Input channels (and other sources). Its output (like the other Channel Strip types) can be send to an Output Bus or another Aux Bus again.
Please note the difference between the term "Aux Channel Strip" and "Aux Bus", which are two different things.
    Hope that helps

  • Apple midi loops load incorect channel strip

when i preview a midi apple loop in the loop browser it sounds fine, but when i drag it onto an inst. channel it loads up all the wrong channel strip info. it will load the Garage band sampler but the correct samples do not load. I have used Redmatica's EXS manager and the Inst. are connected to the correct samples, and still no luck. even if i go into the EXS24 and try to load the Garage band Inst it does nothing (not even a warning saying it cant find samples) it stays unloaded. this has mainly been the drums from jam pack 2. I have reinstalled them twice. initialized my drive and reinstalled everything .
has anyone experienced something like this?

Good question with a complex answer. Let's say you have three synths you want to layer together, EXS24, ES1 and ES2. On one of those tracks in your arrange window, drop in your midi arrangement, for this example we'll say it's the EXS24. You'll notice a "plug" on the top right corner of the channel strips. Locate the plug on the EXS 24, click + hold and drag this plug to the ES1. Now repeat the process for the ES1 to the ES2. You have now changed all the instruments together, and they will respond to the the midi input from the base synth, i.e. the EXS 24.
To make this easier, it may help you to create a new layer in the environment window and then place the channel strips for those instruments on this layer. This will keep things organized for your workflow, but it's entirely optional. Hope this helps. Check out macprovideo.com for more environment + midi tricks.

  • How do I move previous Channel Strip Settings from Logic 9 to Logic X?

    Hello,
I made the jump from Logic 9 to Logic X and I had previous Channel Strip Settings on the 9.  I did the yourhomefolder/library/applicationsupport/logic copy and pasted it in the new folders on my HD (exact same place), but they're not showing up.  I only get the 'Legacy' option when trying to inset a Channel Strip I had before.
Does anyone know how to do this successfully?
    Thanks.

    Banks,
    Indeed..
However, I would retain the LP9 app as firstly it's fairly small so you don't save much space by deleting it...and secondly, you might need it to work on older or new projects that still use 32bit only plugins as they are no longer supported in Logic Pro X
    Cheers..

  • Copy Channel strips between songs

Hi I am working on a mix but its spread over two songs, I want to copy the drums and bass channel strips plugins etc from one song to another. I know if I go to audio config I can copy paste the hole song settings but I only want the first 16 tracks with plugins and fader levels. I tried a simple copy paste on the channels from the enviroment but it didn't seem to work.......

Unfortunately, you have discovered a missing feature that Logic desperately needs, if it is to continue using the word "Pro" in it's title.
As you know, you can copy from the audio configuration window, but that will replace all other track assignments, plug-ins etc... not the intended result.
You can place those 16 tracks on their own environment layer, and import that layer into the second song, but that will only copy volume and panning assignments, not plug-ins, or output assignments.
It's my opinion, that in this particular situation, this is probably the best approach:
Save channel strip settings for the first 16 tracks. Open the second song, and load each tracks channel strip. It's not hard to do... just requires a lot of mouse clicks...
As for volume and pan settings, my advice would be to open both songs at the same time. arrange the first 16 tracks of song 1's mixer at the top of your screen, and the first 16 tracks of song 2 at the bottom of your screen.
Simply set all the volumes and pans on song two manually, by looking at what's in song 1.
One trick I would suggest: Before trying to open both songs at once, disable the audio driver from the Audio Hardware & Drivers window. This will save many minutes of the spinning beachball, while Logic tries to load all plug-ins, AI's, etc, from the second song. Since you're only opening them for a visual cue, you won't need the audio driver active for this task. Trust me, doing this will make it go very fast, and save you lots of aggravation, while switching between songs, and resizing the mixer windows to see what's going on.
Don't forget to turn the audio driver back on, when you're ready to actually hear anything.
The good news is, you'll probably have all 16 tracks set-up properly, faster than the time it took me to type all of this!
    Hope that helps...

  • Saved user patch not saving aux send channel strip settings?

    Hi all,
I was reading the 'Using and saving patches" article in the manual and came across this quote:
"patches also save any aux channel sends that are needed to reproduce the complete patch,"
I was extremely excited and tried to create my own patch. My User Patch saves, and the aux send amounts are in the main channel strip, but the actual bus channel strips are not created.
I noticed that other logic patches actually create the bus strips with their predefined settings when you load them, but I can't seem to get my user patches to do this. Am I missing a step when I save my patch?
    Thanks in advance!
    Robert
    P.S. - if it's useful, I am using Logic 10.0.7 on OSX 10.8.5 on a mid-2012 15" MBP Retina

Just thought I might bump this topic since I have the same problem.  Any suggestions on a solution would be greatly appreciated!

  • How to tap a key / button to turn the sustain of a channel strip on and off

    hi everyone,
essentially, I'm trying to figure out a way to change the settings so instead of having to hold down a keyboard key to sustain a channel strip note, I can simply tap it once (and have it sustained for some period of time) and tap it again to turn it off. I couldn't figure out a way to do this by messing around with the mainstage settings. anyone know if there's a way to do this?
    thanks for the help.

I haven't tried this, but it looks as though you could set a button to Hold.
In Edit screen, select your button.
    select Send to All>Keyboard Destinations>69(Hold2)
Give it a try. The worst that can happen is that it doesn't work.

  • Need to use only one sender and receiver communication channel.

    Hello Experts.
I have a scenario where in I have to use only one sender and receiver communication channel to push files from different source directories to different receiver directories.
    For Eg;
    Sender
    D://dir1/file1 --->                  E://dir1/File1
    F://dir2/file2 ---->                 G://dir2/file2
    H://dir3/file3----->                 I://dir3/file3.
Can this be achieved by using pass through scenario?
Please let me know if the requirement is not clear.
    Thanks in advance.
    Advit Ramesh

    Hi Advit,
I think it is possible. You have to use the Advanced Selection for Source file in the sender channel to define multiple files to be picked up. Also, the Dynamic configuration must also be enabled and used in the mapping so you can manipulate the target directory and target file name based on your source files.

  • All of a sudden, I can no longer add any plugins to any channel strips? And when I click on an existing plugin to edit, it disappears off the channel strip?

I am running Logic express 9 on a 2008 Macbook, (non pro).  Anyhow, logic has always seemed to work great for me.  However, last week I opened up one of many existing projects, (I'm in sample editor).  When I went to add a new plugin to one of the channel strips it would not allow me to.  Also, if I click on any plugin that already exists on the channel strip it dissapears? The strange thing that also happens weather I click to add a new plugin or click on an already existing plugin, is both the  "repeat section" and "crop", buttons from the above menu (in sample editor), the actual buttons become a faded image,(as far as the actual font and images of the buttons).  As soon as I am done clicking to add a plugin on the channel strip, both buttons from the menu  go back to looking normal like all of the other choices from that menu?  I really don't get it?  All I want to do is to be able to add plugins as well as edit or change plugins again. Any thoughts as to why I can no longer add any new plugins to any channel strips?  And why any existing plugins disappear from the channel strip when I click on it?  Why the "repeat section", and "Crop", buttons from the menu above fade in and out when I try clicking on the channel strip is very strange? I don't mind that I just want to be able to add or edit plugins again.  I did do some document cleaning up last week as my memory was getting low.  I then emptied out my trash bin.  I'm hoping I didn't accidentally delete some kind of Logic component?  Why can't I add or edit plugins anymore?  Anyone ever run across this?
    Thanks,
    Mike.

    Mike,
Are any of your other applications going wonky, or is it just Logic?
I'm afraid I've never heard of this particular problem before, but if it were happening to me the first thing I would do is delete my "com.apple.logic.express.plist" file in Library>Preferences, then repair permissions in Disc Utility, and finally restart my computer.  Then I would launch Logic and see if the problem has been corrected.  It's amazing how much these two steps can accomplish.
If that doesn't resolve the issue I would launch Logic and go to Preferences>Audio Units Manager to see if all my plug-ins are properly validated.

  • Cracks and Noises with Channel-Strips in L 7.2 and MacBook Pro 17"

I am using a MBP 17" and have "performance-problems": when I choose a single Channel-Strip (like "11 Ethnic/Breathy Harp"), the performance-control shows only one CPU working near 90% (the right one) and I'm hearing cracks and noises. I've tried without Fireface (intern) - same problem. I can't believe, that this "incredible machine" isn't able to run one single Channel-Strip at a time without problems!!!
    Anyone ideas?

Hi Marty, thanks for your imidiate reply! Though your information about sculpture is very helpful I unfortunately have the same problem with CST like "01 Pianos/Concert Hall Grand Piano" wich is from the exs24 instrument. A further problem is, that the performance control in logic show just one cpu working while the other indicator does nothing. I compared to the performance control of MacOS: there the indicator show both CPUs are working - strange, isn't it?

    Hi Vaigai,
    Grzegorz is right.
You can read all the flat file and remove the first two and last two lines using a mapping.
Check this link. There are some content conversion parameters in the sender file adapter that can be helpful

  • Channel Strips and PreAmps; Do I need one?

I’ve been using a Rode NT1-A to record both my acoustic guitar and my Fender Princeton Amp with my Electric Guitar. I have the mic going straight into my PRESONUS FIRE BOX interface and from there to the iMac. Sometimes with the acoustic guitar I run 2 mics for a stereo sound.
This is my first set up for recording into a computer and I’m happy. For the most part I think that I get a pretty darn good sound. Keep in mind that I’m still learning about good mic placement and EQ etc…
I’ve been seeing quite a bit of news about other types of external microphone pre amps and “channel strips”. Some of them are just “pre-amps” others have EQ and or Compression by companies like ART, Presounus, Focusright etc..
Am I missing something sound wise with the Mic / FireBox / Computer chain? Would I notice much of an improvement in my sound if I ran the mic through one of these?
My budget is on the lower side as you may have guessed based on the price of my mic and my interface (about $300 each). Any ideas on a PreAmp / Channel Strip to check out?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.5 gigs ram

    OK.........
If I were to say get a "channel strip" unit, would I then take the outputs into the "microphone" inputs of my Presonus FireBox or should I use the "line" inputs? In this way I think that I would be using 2 pre-amps at the same time; the "channel strip" and the "firebox".
OR is there need to bypass the "pre-amp" section of the Firebox and just use it as a analoge to digital interface?
    Best,
