Send Clip To Motion, becomes Unrendered Footage

I sent my clip to Motion now in my FCP project the footage has become unrendered I have quit and restarted FCP and no luck, anyone know what the problem could be?

If you want to continue with that method you should...
use more that one video track, alternate each clip in an AB fashion, drag out the handles, then send.
btw. so sorry for your second place finish

  • How can I send clips to motion?

for working witt the clip in motion. I don't want to add transition, title etc.
I just want to send a specific lenght of an clip to work with that in motion, and after that send it back to final cut.

Round tripping is gone While Apple hopefully goes back and adds the missing features everyone is screaming about, you can just export the section of footage suggested by Tom OR Larwence in this post:

  • Sending Clips to Motion

I've tried to send a series of clips to Motion from Final Cut Pro, and while Motion opens, it does not bring up the clips I selected - in fact Motion opens and brings up the default action that exists within the preferences file.
Is there something I need to do in either Final Cut or Motion to allow this to happen?

I just began using Final Cut Studio, and was having the same problem with the Surf movie tutorial. I found the answer to my problem in this thread.

  • Send clip to Motion

Great news for those who want to send a clip to Motion. A little free application makes that possible: http://www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/news/743-now-you-can-send-clips-from-final-cut-p ro-x-to-motion

Unfortunately, you can't do this currently. Many people are baffled by this, and there are many threads asking the same question, with the same answer.
    We need a FAQ.

  • Sending clip to Motion

Is it possible to send a clip directly from FCE to Motion? I know you can do this with FCP but is it possible to do this with FCE? If not, is exporting to Quicktime the best alternative?

There is no Send to Motion function in FCE.
Exporting QuickTime Movie is your best option.

  • Rendered Clips Become Unrendered

I have been getting a lot of "Out of Memory" errors in FCP lately... Mainly with one particular project. I have the latest version installed, by the way.
My entire timeline (all footage in ProRes 444 LT) will render out--all but one clip. When I try to render it, I get the error. I will close other sequences and other applications. Sometimes this will fix the problem, sometimes not.
However, the crazy thing is that FCP has also started discarding my rendered files. It will happen when I load my project, having previously rendered all the clips. It wil also happen after rendering... I will render one clip, and after the process is complete, 10 other rendered clips will become unrendered.
Any ideas why this could be happening?

Perhaps because you are editing in a non-existant format? There is no ProRes 444 LT. There is ProRes4444 and there is ProRes 422 LT    My guess you are working in ProRes422 LT (more commonly designated as ProResLT around here)
Remove the proplematic clip from the project. It is likely corrupted. Does the program work as expected now? If yes and you need that material in the story, recapture/ reimport it from your backup. If you don't have a backup version, recut the project without it.
If the program is still misbehaving, shut down FCP and delete the FCP Preference files. (Digital Rebellion has a nifty little app -  FCS REMOVER - that will do this for you)
After you delete the pref files, the next time you start the program you will need to set things like the scratch disk locations.
Does FCP work as advertised now?

  • Sending final cut clips to Motion

I did this just yesterday, and it worked fine, now all of a sudden when I go to send a clip to motion, it just shows up black in motion!! The clips not there!!
    Suggestions??

Be sure the clip is set to 'read and write' in FCP.
Along these lines, when I try to send a clip to Motion, I am getting a clip open in Motion , but the wrong one. Same thing in Shake. What appears is a different segment of the original captured video, but not the bit part that I have edited into my timeline and tried to send. What am I missing?

  • Can You Send A Clip To Motion?

I don't have the tools I need in FCPX to complete a title sequence as I would like, so I thought I'd just send the clip to Motion and work with it there.  Is this possible in FCPX?  I don't see it in the help document.
    Thanks,
    Lawrence

I suppose the questions were similar.  But earlier I was asking if there was a way to import a motion file into FCPX.  This time, I was merely asking if you could send a video clip to Motion as the basis for starting a Motion project.  I understand the lack of round-tripping.  Just wanted to quickly get my video clip into motion to lay the titles over it there.  But I guess it makes sense that if you can't bring it back, then you can't send it out. . . well, as much as any of this is making sense.
    Thanks Stefan

  • Sending clips over to Motion?

    Hi how are you....
I wonder if there is some way to send directly clips to Motion from FCX, like in FCP7 when rightclicking on a clip would give you that option. I know I can "share" or export and then automatically open them in Motion, but that would make a single clip of whatever I have selected in FCX. I'd like to be able to choose 3 clips from my timeline and open them in Motion as they are. Is it possible?
    Thanks a lot

    No. There isn't.
There should be no need to ever send video to Motion -- it's "already there" in Effects, Titles or Transitions in the form of a specialized drop zone(s) that is pre-setup for your project.
Is there any way you can plan your Motion design to involve just the drop zones? You can test everything in FCPX after each Save from Motion (but you have to reapply the effect/title or transition each time -- FCPX will "remember" former incarnations in the storyline.)
PS - with respect to developments of this sort, a Title is usually the best pick for project type -- easily replaced in the storyline and versatile.

  • Trying to animate a clip's motion in Premiere 6

    Hi Premiere experts,
I am a brand new Premier user with an old v6 on a Windows 7 machine.
I am trying to animate a clip's motion along a motion path... and now I figured out how to import a graphic clip in to the project window, put it in the timeline and then drag that clip to the "Effect Controls" palette, and I'm now in the "Motion settings dialog box".
But I want my graphic clip to have a transparent background so hopefully I'll be able to put it on top of another image so it will appear to be moving on that background image... I made my base graphic file a GIF with a transparent background so hopefully that would work for this purpose, but I can see when I select a background color in the "Motion settings dialog box", that my graphic clip does not take on the background color.
So I'm trying to figure out how to make my graphic so it'll have a transparent background and then put a different background image behind it.
    Thanks for any help,
    numetro

    Hi Bill and other experts,
Below are the paragraphs in the Premiere 6 instructions that apply to my questions... I found this information about rendering the background of an image clip graphic as transparent so it will take on the color or image that is behind it, but then the information in these paragraphs does not tell me these things:
1- Where is the Alpha Channel key? - Can't find this in the instructions.
2- Where is the Transparency Settings dialog box? - Can't find this in the instructions.
3- Where is the Export Settings dialog box? - Can't find this in the instructions.
I've saved my PSD graphic file with a "straight" alpha channel that defines the area of the image that should be treated as transparency, but the questions above are the stopping points to getting these methods (described below in paragraphs copied from the instructions) to work.
Also at the bottom here there is a paragraph about previewing in the monitor window... one method works but the main method of just hitting enter is still giving me an error message.
    Using the Alpha Channel Key
Images represented on video are composed of three grayscale images called channels--one red, one green, and one blue. Such images are called RGB images. An alpha channel is a fourth channel in an RGB image that defines what parts of the  image are transparent or semitransparent. Many programs, such as Adobe  Illustrator and Photoshop, use alpha channels so that you can specify  transparent regions in an image. An alpha channel is either straightpremultiplied,  depending on the program that created the image. When an image contains  a straight alpha channel, the transparency information is stored only  in the alpha channel. When an image contains a premultiplied alpha  channel, the background color that is intended to be transparent is also  blended into the edges of an image. Use the Alpha Channel key on clips  that contain a straight alpha channel, such as images created in Adobe  Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe After Effects.
When you use the Alpha Channel key with a clip to which you have applied or plan to apply motion, select  the Use Clip's Alpha option in the Motion Settings dialog box. If this  setting is not selected, the clip's bounding box will appear when the  clip moves. See Specifying alpha channel and color options.
(Where is the Alpha Channel key? - Can't find this in the instructions)
Specifying alpha channel and color option
You can include a fill color and specify how Premiere treats the alpha channel of the clip.
In the Motion Settings dialog box, choose any of the following options:
Reset - Removes the distortion, delay, rotation, and zoom settings for a selected keyframe.
Fill Color - Specifies  a background color that fills the frame behind the moving clip. To  select a background color, click the desired color on the thumbnail in  the Fill Color box (the pointer turns into the eyedropper tool when it  is on the thumbnail), or click the color swatch above the thumbnail to  access the color picker and choose a color. This color appears in  previews and the rendered video program only if the clip is placed in  the Video 1 track.
Alpha: Use Clip's - Superimposes  a clip using its existing alpha channel. This is the normal setting for  titles or graphics created in another application that supports alpha  channels, such as Adobe Photoshop. This option affects only those clips  that have been assigned an alpha channel key type in the Transparency  Settings dialog box. For information on alpha channels, see Using the Alpha Channel key.
(Where is the Transparency Settings dialog box? - Can't find this in the instructions)
Alpha: Create New - Creates  a transparent fill for clips that do not have an existing alpha  channel. With this option selected, an alpha channel is created for the  areas in the clip that have been assigned a key type in the Transparency  Settings dialog box. See Using the Alpha Channel key.
Note: - Choosing  the Create New option for an image containing an alpha channel  overwrites the original alpha channel when the image is superimposed.
    Choosing Export Settings
As part of the process of exporting,  check the options in the Export Settings dialog box. The initial export  settings are the same as the settings you specified in the Project  Settings dialog box when you first started the project. Export settings  don't update as you work on your project, however, so it's a good idea  to make sure that all export settings are still the ones you want.  Although the Export Settings dialog box is similar to the Project  Settings dialog box, important differences exist. For example, the  Special Processing panel is included so that you can apply certain  changes to all clips in the Timeline at export time, such as resizing,  cropping, and noise reduction.
(Where is the Export Settings dialog box? - Can't find this in the instructions)
Note: Some capture-card software and plug-in software provide their own dialog  boxes with specific options. If the options you see are different that  those described in Premiere's online Help refer to the documentation for  your capture card or plug-in.
To preview motion in the Monitor window:
1 -  Click OK to save and close the motion settings.
2  - Do one of the following:
Build a preview file:  move the yellow work area bar so it covers the clip with the motion  settings and press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac OS).
THIS DOES NOT WORK - I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT SAYS: "An error occured while making the movie. Error writing file (disk full?)." ... BUT MY DISK/HARD DRIVE IS NOT FULL - IT STILL HAS 40 GIGS OPEN ON IT.
Render-scrub  the area you want to preview: hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac  OS); when the cursor becomes a downward pointing arrow, scrub in the Timeline window's time ruler.
THIS WORKS WHEN SCRUBBING THE AREA TO PREVIEW IN THE TIMELINE.
Thanks for any help with these questions,

  • Transitions with FCP after bring clip to Motion

Here is my problem. I brought a clip into Motion, and applied some effects, etc...and it looks great so now it is in FCP. The next clip was not edited in motion, just a regular clip edited in FCP. When I apply a transition it doesn't let me change the length of the transition. I can successfully change the transition between 2 normal clips, but I'm unable to change the transition length between a clip that was edited in motion and a regular FCP clip. Any suggestions?

Did you export the Motion clip out of Motion, then import it into FCP? If so, then you lost your 'handles'.
Have you tried 'Send to Motion' from FCP...work on it there, then bring it back to FCP? That's probably the best workflow.
Either that or when you send a clip to Motion, make sure you include media prior to and after your known in/outs, so you have extra media to make a transition with, when you export it out of Motion.
    K
EDIT - at the very least, you should be able to use a transition on your current Motion clip, but you'll need to make the transition work from within available media on the Motion clip...like 'beginning on' or 'ending on'.

  • Problem pulling clips into Motion

Hi, I'm having a peculiar problem, and I wonder if anyone here can help.
I have a sequence I'm cutting in Final Cut with two clips -- one clip is running at 100% speed, and the other is running at 50% speed -- slow motion.
When I select the two clips and send them to Motion, something very weird happens. The normal-speed clip shows up fine, but the slow-mo clip shows up as a different clip entirely! We're talking a whole different spot on the tape (which has different timecode and everything)!
Now, I've tried all sorts of combinations to avoid what is clearly a BUG in Motion, including re-capturing JUST that portion of the tape into its own clip. When I do that, in Motion, the second clip (the 50% speed clip) shows up as a static image of the very last frame of that re-captured clip.
I need to remove green screen and lay in an animation underneath the clip that's running at 50% speed, but right now I can't. Has anyone encountered this bug before? Is there a workaround?
I can't figure out how to make a clip slow-motion in Motion... if I could, I could just import the clip at full speed (that works fine).
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  • Export FCP clip to Motion

This must be pretty basic, but I've tried several things with the same results. I just want to get a 12 second clip from my FCP timeline into a new Motion project, but when I hilight the clip in the timeline and "send to Motion", in Motion I get the entire clip that was originally captured, (which was 20 minutes), not the edited clip. How do I send just the clip from the timeline to Motion?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   DVDSP4;FCP5;Motion2

I just set in and out points of a clip bringing it into the timeline at just over 5 seconds.
Clicked on the clip, and right click to send to a Motion project. Got the dialog box, and named it, and it opened in Motion at the 5 second length.
Are you up to date with the latest versions of FCP 5.0.4. and Motion 2.0.x?
    best wishes

  • Sending text to Motion does nothing but open a new file

I'm editing in FCP and created a text object, carefully placing it in exactly the right position. I right click on the text in the timeline and choose "Send to Motion" but all it does is open a new file. Seems to me it should have actually "sent the text" to Motion as it implies. Did they really not include this feature? Otherwise, its pretty darn meaningless.
Now it seems like I have to re-typeset the text, and go back and forth until I get the placement right again. So much for simplified workflows!

Your fundamental approach to this is wrong.
Tom has already pointed out that Motion is a graphics and text animation tool (amongst other things).
If your point of reference for positioning text is based on the content of the video track below it -send the video clip to Motion and apply the text there, where you can also apply any number of effects to it. Motion has access to exactly the same typefaces that FCP has and a few more in the form of "LiveFonts".
If you wish to have the animated text as a separate element, you can simply delete the video from the background layer in Motion once the positioning and timing has been established. If it needs to be tweaked or changed completely, simply right click it on the FCP Timeline and choose Open in Editor. This will launch Motion with the text project loaded automatically.
So consider it a suggestion for future versions of FCS. (If these posts filter up to the right people!)
They don't. Apple Discussions participants are all users, just like you.

  • Can't change clip duration Motion 5

I have tried all of the work arounds I have been able to find in the Support Commnity and still I can't change the duration of source clips in Motion 5.  I have trashed plist, rebooted, repaired permisions, changed timing of project, changed name of clip, used the Timeline clock instead of the Instpector window.  Cleared all In / Out points and reset them to slightly different values. I have changed Timing to Variable and back again.  I can open clips in a new project and change duration.  I have opened new project and copied some layers from working project, the problem persists.  Is reinstall the option left available to me?

    BenB,
The specifics: Motion 5.0.4 Timeline is set to 6 minutes, the Media is 5:59;21 (QT,mp4, H264,1280x720, 24fps). Imported via File Browser into Layer Group (Group In / Out points are 0 and 6 mins, as is Play Range).  At one time the clip was in it's full duration.  Afterr a crash / restart it is only 01:52;27.  I can not Drag the clip to its full length. I cannot change it's duration thru the Inspector, not the Timeline Clock.
In an effort to isolate the issue I opened a new Project (same time setttings as original Project, imported the clip, which plays to it's full duration, and then, one at a time, copied and pasted all Filters and Parameters and Objects from the original Project; all play fine.  Then I copied the original Layer Group in it's entirety to the Test Project, and the clip is still limited to 01:52;27.  I then used Replace Media to select a random clips (same format) with varying Duration (all longer than 01:52;27) and got the same result every time; Duraton 01:52;27. Not one element of the Test Project has an In / Out set to anything other than the full Duration of the Project.
