Send commands in advance of a print job to printer?
Hello Experts,
Is there any possibility to send hardware commands in advance of a print job to printer to initiate a sequence number counter on the printer hardware.
Thanks
prabaharan
Could you be more specific? Possibly offer me an example of what you would like to see if our printers can accomplish?
Let me know and have a great day!

When send the report directly to the printer from Oracle IDS 9i
Hi.....
I m using Oracle IDS 9i, Oracle AS 9i and Database 9i for my new project.But i m facing a problem when i m trying to show a report from oracle IDS 9i.When i send the report directly to the printer without showing it,then the printer connected to the application server is working.But the printer connected to with PC(From where a send the command) is not working but printer connected with AS is working,but not that one which one i m wanting.....Why this problem is happening?Can anyone help me?
KSINote:It is always better to have network based printers rather then PC shared printers. What that means is your printer is not connected to a PC. It has a direct connection to the network via NIC. You would then setup the printer on your AS in the printers setup. If the AS is rebooted you do not need to authenticate the printer shares again with a network based printer.
If I understand you correctly, you have a printer connected to your AS(application server) and a printer connected to your PC. You can submit a report direct to the printer connected to the AS but cannot send a report direct to your printer connected to your PC.
From the symptoms you described, the problem is usually associated with the AS not being able to see the printer shared on your PC. You either have the address to your printer address defined wrong or your AS is trying to direct a job to your printer but doesn't have rights to do it.
First, Try to print a notepad job to your printer attached to your PC from the AS. This will tell you if you have access to do so or not.
- If it can't, you need to figure out why? This has nothing to do with oracle.
Second, thing to check is your Oracle "Report Queue Manager" on the AS. Make sure that you can submit a report manually from the Report Queue Manager. If it fails the "Report Queue Manager" will give you useful errors as to why it failed. This will help you isolate the problem.
Third, Once you can submit a job from the reports queue manager manually to your shared printer you should be able to submit from your application direct. If it still does not work your address to the printer is incorrect. Try submitting manually through the reports queue manager again. When selecting printer you will be given a list of accessible printers from the AS. Select the one connected to your PC. Once selected the full network address will appear. Copy and use this as the printer location in your job submission through your application.
That's it... Where using this right now and it works great. Hope this helps.

How to send a text file to a printer?
Hi, I'm in dark on how to send a text file to a printer through Java Stored Procedure.
Here are what I tried so far (OS: win 2000, Oracle: 817 or 9i2):
1, Enable DOS command in Java Stored Proc. and try to send PRINT command there:
public static String Run(String Command){
try{
Runtime.getRuntime().exec(Command);
System.out.println("Command: " + Command);
return("0");
catch (Exception e){
System.out.println("Error running command: " + Command +
"\n" + e.getMessage());
return(e.getMessage());
public static void main(String args[]){
if (args.length == 1)
Run("print /D:\\\\enterprise\\john " + args[0]);
else System.out.println("Usage: java OSCommand filename");
PL/SQL wrapper:
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION OSCommand_Run(p1 IN VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2 AUTHID CURRENT_USER AS LANGUAGE JAVA NAME 'OSCommand.Run(java.lang.String) return java.lang.String';
SQL command:
//print /D:\\machine\printer test.txt
I loaded the Java Stored Procedure into SYSDBS account, it failed silently, even though piece of code works fine in external JVM.
2, Use filePrinter:
public static String print(String printString) {
try{
String printerUNC = "\\\\machine\\printer";
FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(printerUNC);
PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(fw);
pw.println(printString);
fw.close();
return "OK";
}catch(Exception e){
e.printStackTrace();
return "Exception: " + e.getMessage();
public static void main(String[] args) {
try{
String printerUNC = "\\\\machine\\printer";
String printString = "Hello World";
FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(printerUNC);
PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(fw);
pw.println(printString);
fw.close();
}catch(Exception e){e.printStackTrace();}
I loaded it into SYSDBS too, and tried with this:
SQL> select MY_PRINT.PRINT('HELLO from Oracle') from dual;
MY_PRINT.PRINT('HELLOFROMORACLE')
Exception: No such file or directory
SQL> show user
USER is "SYS"
It works in external JVM too.
What's wrong with this?
Thanks for any help in advance,
CharlesAvi:
Thanks for your response!
I put the java code in SYS, 'cause I assume that account has max privilege. If the test is successful, I will move that to some user schema and then to deal with those privilege settings... But I'm unlucky.
I checked Ask Tom, this is what I got from http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:1619723::NO::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID,F4950_P8_CRITERIA:38012348052,%7Bprinter%7D:
... Print file from PL/SQL ...
If you are using Oracle8i, release 8.1 -- much can be done with Java. java
would be able to print directly from the server.
Looks like using Java to print out file is better than PL/SQL. But there's no more hint there! And, no new question can be asked there today either...
I'm wondering whether we can create a socket to a printer and send the characters there directly... Anyone has experience on this?
Thanks for all the help in advance,

End of JobAs far you are using VirtualBox, your processor capabilities shouldn't counted (min from my own experience while setting up the virtual machine. Change the Domain Type under configuation node to XEN PVM and try again. Most probably the virtual machine will start running.
One more thing, enable promiscuous mode -> Allow allow with your network configuration (if bridged network is in use) for the VM Server prior you try to SSH into the virtual machine (your guest on VM Server)
All the best and post your test results

How to send e-mail alert to the user job is successful or failed.
Hi Experts,
I have scheduled a job using DBMS_JOB Package; in this job I am calling a procedure.
How can we send an e-mail(alert) to the user if the job is successful (or) job fails.
If the job is successfully completed, then we have to send mail as “Job is completed successfully along with job name”.
If the job fails we have to send email as “error message of the job along with job name”(why the job is failed).
This alert should be sending automatically no manual intervention.
Please help me.

/Thanks in advance.Hi,
I think you can do by creating mailing procedures and call it in the loop and outside the loop.
There would be two procedure one in inside loop which will execute after successfull completion of the loop.
Other would be in the exception block like i shown in the below code you have written;
V_variable_1 you can use as a parameter for what is the error occured.
like suppose your mailing procedure name is Status_email and Status_email_1.

Help on K700i- OK/Send Command Problem...
Hi guys,
I need your help with SE K700i I developed a midlet that can send SMS.
It works well with other phones but in SE K700i when i execute the SEND Command it doesn't do anything and sometimes when I used the BACK command and returned to SEND Command it will send/response...
I tried a lot to solve this problem but I don't know if it's a bug or maybe the code is wrong...By the way this is some parts of the codes.
static final Command sendMsgCommand = new Command("SEND",Command.OK,2);
public void commandAction(Command c, Displayable d) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
if(c==exitCommand){
notifyDestroyed();
started=false;
}else if(c==sendMsgCommand){
new Thread(this).start();
} else if(c==backCommand){
display.setCurrent(itemMenu);
}Thanks in advance...
Regards,
PsyeuYes i have tested it on real K700i and also on other devices like nokia 6101, P910i the midlet works fine with that devices...
When I implemented alert for the OK command it seems no problem...and for SEND command to send message it works fine...
I think the problem is the defaulted OK command after selecting contacts in the local phone book when implemented like SEND command it didn't respond and also the SEND command is also affected- it didn't response sometimes. -
Canon image runner advanced C2030/C20 ,printing labels problems
Question is for Canon image runner advanced C2030/C20 ,printing labels from Filemaker pro 10
1)how & where do you turn off the double sided printing?
2it )will only print the first 30 pages in a range,how do I increase thisgoldn:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Just ran a test and I got a perfect card. Here's what I did.
1 - create the card and type Command-P.
2 - select Stylus Photo R200 under Printer
3 - click on the Advanced button
4 - in the bottom drop down menu select Paper Handling
5 - select the radio button "Use documents paper size: 7.00 in x 10.00 in
6 - now select Print Settings in the 3rd drop down menu
7 - select the type of paper you're using and the print quality you want. I used Photo and High Speed. (also used plain paper for my test)
9 - put a piece of 7 x 10 paper in the printer (yes, you'll have to trip the paper beforehand or use card stock designed for this)
10 - click on Print
11 - when the paper exits the printer quickly put it back in the printer
That will do it. Now there is a caveat. Putting it back into the printer before drying tended to get my leading edge nipped. If you use heaver card stock I don't think that will happen but just be aware. If you wait a moment to put the page, turned over, back into the printer to let the ink dry a bit, all you'll have to do is press the middle button which will be blinking red and that will feed the other side thru when you're ready. -
Unable to send command to smart card reader
i am writing code for reading/writing to a smart card through a smart card reader which support RS232 serial communication.
Problem is that the reader is not responding to the commands i send to it.
My Smart CArd reader (HID 6055 Mifare Smart CArd reader) sends some ack when it is switched on. That data i am able to receive though the following code.
So i think i am unable to write (send command ) to the reader.
Also how do i debug my code to see whether the command is actually being sent or not. I tried hyper terminal but if i use hyper terminal then the java prog is not able to open an OtputStream for writing to the smart card.
I appreciate your kind help...

Im new to this technology and wanna learn and try to program some simple applications using Smart Card...
Reading thru all the topics above, Im wonderring is the Card Reader able write codes to the Smart Card, or maybe jux simply able to update the info inside the card??
I also heard about Card Decoder as well, I mean if the Card Reader can do the task.. why do we need Card Decoder ?!
Sorry if I stated something wrong... Im new and hope that someone could share some valuable knowledges here...
Thanks much much !! -

Version: 3.0.2-11
Description:
I have discovered and setup an OVM Server. I successfully created an empty pool names "Pool1". Once I tried to add the server (esx-4170-01) to "Pool1" I receive the error below.
Communication appears to be working as the server was discovered. Also, pinging the hostname (esx-4170-01) returns with success from esx-4170-01.lab.xxx.com (the FQDN).

I have discovered and setup an OVM Server. I successfully created an empty pool names "Pool1". Once I tried to add the server (esx-4170-01) to "Pool1" I receive the error below.
Communication appears to be working as the server was discovered. Also, pinging the hostname (esx-4170-01) returns with success from esx-4170-01.lab.xxx.com (the FQDN).Looks like the hostname of the machine is only set to the first part, not the FQDN, which is being returned by DNS. Ensure that what you get from the "hostname" command matches exactly what you get from DNS for that IP address. -
Send command from my own application
Hi,
I have some problem to send commands to Instrument, which connect to computer via GPIB card.
I use my own application with advanced script language and 16-bit GPIB ISA card, OS Windows 2000. I have send to Instrument command as string.
Here is fragment of code :

LoadLib(gpib-32.dll) <-- Loading DLL
RunLibFunc(handler, , ) <-- Running function from DLL

- the name of function from DLL should be something like Send
- array of arguments for the function : GPIB card ID, GPIB address of Instrument, my string, and something else
Please Help me to find exactly commands syntax and the way to use it.
Thanks in advanceDennis is correct, you can find information about the functions in the help file.
You can also find a list of functions in the "NI 488.2 Function Reference":

LaserJet Pro M1536dnf trouble sending fax...just says fax job added but does not send out. How do I repair?
Thanks!Hi @LWest322 ,
I see that you are having issues with the fax not sending the fax. I can help you.
The settings would be under the Fax Menu button, Send Options, Send Fax Later.
I don't believe there is a option though to turn it off or on, just to set the date and time.
I can send you the reset for the printer in a private message, which resolve this issue.
In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Hi,
I am using a simple Alicat send command vi to control an Alicat mass flow controller using Labview.
I downloaded the driver directly from the Alicat website. link:
http://www.alicat.com/support/download-device-drivers/
The problem is that I keep getting garbage responses from Alicat no matter what command I enter.
The response is in terms of characters that cant even be copied and pasted.
I have included a print screen image of the vi in this post. I would really appreciate it someone
could let me know what commands I should enter or if these errors are to be expected. I am pretty new to
the labview environment and have been stuck on this issue for weeks. Thanks.
Solved!

AlicatSendCommandGarbage.png 308 KBI have looked at the device manual and it doesnt contain the characters that are being displayed.
I tried to simplify it a bit and am now using just a read serial buffer vi.
I have attached the results that I am getting to this post.
The results are also somewhat different than the ones I was getting before as they actually have ascii characters.
Any input would be appreciated as I have no idea how to proceed. There cant be a problem with the code because it is pretty straight forward
the flow controllers are also working well as I used them just yesterday.

Sending command apdu with a byte array as CDATA
Hi,
I am learning java card as part of my final year project. So far I think I can do most of the basic things but I have got stuck at one particular point.
I know that there are different constructors for creating a command apdu object and a number of these constructors take an array of bytes as CDATA values.
My problem is, how to access this array of data in the card side because apdu.getBuffer() returns an array of integers (bytes)? And what is actually on apdu.getBuffer()[ISO7816.OFFSET_CDATA)] location when you send command apdu object using such a constuctor?
regards

(..) I should have mentioned earlier that my card use jc 2.2.1 version, and i have read from different places that this version does not support ExtendedLength facility.Indeed.
Also I understand the semantics of apdu.getBuffer()[ISO7816.OFFSET_CDATA] that is the first byte of the command data. My question is, this command data was initially supplied as an array of bytes. Something like this:
+new CommandAPDU(CLA, INS, P1, P2, DATA_ARRAY, Le)+
So when you call:
byte [] buffer = apdu.getBuffer()
So does this mean that the byte values inside DATA_ARRAY automatically occupy locations +buffer[ISO7816.OFFSET_CDATA]+ onwards inside the buffer?Yes. The length would be<tt> (short)(buffer[ISO7816.OFFSET_LC]&0xFF) </tt>. Notice the<tt> &0xFF </tt> is a must above 127 bytes.
Or their is a mechanism of extracting the DATA_ARRAY array itself?No.
In fact, in the interest of performance and portability in environments with little memory, the usual coding style is to pass<tt> buffer </tt>, an offset within that, and the length; rather than making an object, which would require a copy. Welcome to the real world of Java Card. -

'Send Print Request' button can send paystub output to R/3 print spool:
Hi
Portal Experts
Current state of the SAP environment on ECC 5.0 and EP 6 SP17
'Send Print Request' button can send paystub output to R/3 print spool:
When I clicked on send print request, I expected a printout to my default printer but didnt get one. If the dialog user has the 'print immediate' option turned off, their paystub will spool up in R/3. When a user clicks on the printer ICON within Adobe, they get to choose their printer and know that it will go straight to the printer. This could be confusing to R/3 dialog users.
Any solution,How to change the option from spool to print immediate.
Thanks
