Send completed PDF questionnaire to email.

Hello, we are running a research project and I want
people to access our internet site, download the PDF and then email it on to my gmail address at the click of a button. We are currently having alot of problems with this button. It does nothing in most versions of Adobe Reader. Any ideas what we are doing wrong? Please help.
This is the site.

Thankyou

When using e-mail submission for a PDF form from a web site, you need to be ready for problems. The submission generally is dependent on the client e-mail that you have no control over and may fail. This is the same reason that HTML forms with mailto submissions are not recommended.
You only need the data (you can import it to the form), so there is no need for the form to be saved that may be an issue if it is to be used by many submissions. If a large number of submissions you should not activate the Reader Rights since you would likely violate the license agreement (with 500 uses of the form).
I was going to check your button, but from the current computer I can not even open the form. You need to be careful about backward compatibility to prior versions when using forms. A lot of folks still use version 5 and 6. This machine has ver. 5. I might check it tomorrow from my office with ver. 8. Based on the other response, it appears you must have created the form in Designer and not Acrobat. Thus the recommendation to ask in the LiveCycle forum.

how do I make a button on the form which will submit and send the pdf as an email?

You can set up a button with a "Submit a form" action and use a mailto type URL to specify the email address you want the forms sent do. If you want to send the entire PDF, select that option and not FDF or anything else. The mailto URL should not include any spaces and the "mailto" part should be lowercase, like:
    mailto:[email protected]
This will attempt to initiate an email using the users default email client. If the user does not have one set up or there is some other problem, the email might not get initiated. If it needs to work with Reader versions prior to 11, then the form needs to be Reader-enabled, which you do in Acrobat 11 by selecting: File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools

My gues is that the file was not properly enabled to be answered by mail. Unless you can use Acrobat for this, one of your best bets is to contsct the author of the file and ask for a properly enabled copy.

  • How do I create a submit button for my form? I would like it to send the completed PDF to an email address

    Hi everyone,
I recently upgraded to Adobe XI and I can't find a "submit by email" button for my form. I created a button and tried to set up some actions but, I can only get the button to direct the user to a URL. How do I make it send the completed PDF to our designated company email address? I'm not too familiar with JAVASCRIPTS so I haven't tried that plus I heard it may not work with users with adobe reader.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Thanks for the input. I think you might have a different version of LiveCycle than the copy I have since it looks a little different. However, I found the answer in Adobe help. I had to type "mailto:" before the email address to indicate it's an email and not a URL. See below.
To collect form data as attachments to email, type mailto: followed by the email address. For example, mailto:[email protected]

  • Button to send filled out form as completed pdf form via email

I have created a form that when filled out, should send the form by email to the recipient as a completed pdf form. It works with Adobe Acrobat but not Reader.
    Any Ideas?
form can be found at:  http://www.lcyc.ca/images/stories/macman2012/macmanentry.pdf

    Check out:
    http://www.nk-inc.com/macmanentry.pdf
Use your real name, and e-mail address in the PDF form fields, and recieve a customized email copy and response.
The script will parse and merge the XDP submission, so there's no need to Reader Enable your forms.
PDFEmail.net works in ASP.net web servers.
Note: Do not submit sensitive information, this is just a demo. I may get a BCC of the form.

  • Can I send a PDF with the email notification?

I paid for the $0.99 basic subscription to try out FormsCentral since there is no free trial.  My organization would like to have the completed PDFs included in the Notifications, and I can't seem to find a way to do that.  Is this possible?

    Hi Anubha,
    Thanks for your reply.
I tried sending myself a pdf document with comments from one email account and I sent it to another email account. I still get the same problem. I basically receive a pdf document with no comments.
    Am I doing something wrong?

  • HTTP Submit to SMTP Server (to send completed PDF copy) - possible?

I've read various blogs re: HTTP Submit and the requirements of a web service, servlet, jsp, etc. I was wondering if was possible to setup an HTTP submit button to point to a mail server to send a copy of a completed form to a specific email address? So basically, making use of the SMTP protocol.
Instead of relying on the form user's email client (or internet email service) to send the email containing the completed PDF form, the HTTP submit button will point to a SMTP URL (of some sorts) that has been set up with the recipient’s credentials. The SMTP server would just relay the file to a designated email address of the recipient’s choosing. Not sure if SMTP’s severs will allow this due to the potential of sending SPAM from their server.
I know all of this is possible via making the form Reader Enabled and setting up a regular email submit button, but the problem is the user must use an email client, or log into their internet email account in order to submit the form. Was just wondering if there was simple workaround? Also, the problem with using POST is that only the data is posted, which means additional steps of re-combing it with a form copy is required.
So, is the SMTP “concept” even possible? Or, is this only possible via web service, response objects, etc.?
    Thanks in advance.
    Shaun

    Carmine,
to use SSL, you will need to first create/purchase an SSL certificate. This can be done in Server Admin -> "servername" -> Settings -> Certificates.
Next, simply set SMTP and/or IMAP to use SSL in Server Admin -> Mail -> Settings -> Advanced -> Security.

  • How do I send entire pdf form via email from web browser

How do you send a pdf completed form on your web browser via email to email address?

Hello Wayne, see no offense in this message
    There is a faster scheme.
Copy the range of cells to send (it may be an entire table)
    Enter the application entitled Preview.
File > Create a new doc from the clipboard
File > Send the selected PDF document (I'm not sure of the exact wording).
    It's the highlighted one.
Bingo, it will create a mail with the PDF embedded.

  • How Can I Disallow Sending a PDF Document via Email?

    http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1528701&page=1
    nha khoa.com/showthread.php?t=145
I'm using Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard.
I've gotten the test document setup in such a way that at least the typical person could not print it, send it as an email attachment, nor save the file within Adobe Reader 8.
However, if that same person were to open the file with Foxit PDF reader, they could email it as an attachment (though they can't do the others).
What I want to know is if there is a way to specifically disallow a pdf file from being sent as an attachment from within the pdf application? For Adobe, I just had to check the box next to "hide menu bar" and "hide tool bars", but leave "hide window controls" unchecked.
But of course, Foxit reader, and I'd imagine others, don't recognize the code for the display defaults. So for those, I'd need something else. I did not see an option under security for disabling email. Is there any way to do so?
The PDF files will be shared via a SharePoint site. So if there is some other better way of locking them down via SharePoint, that'd be fine as well.
I'll post more detail if need be. Thanks for any suggestions.
"If to err is human, then I must be some kind of human!" -Me

There's no way to prevent someone attaching a PDF to an email (or any other file-level operation on it) - to view a PDF it MUST be downloaded to the client's computer, and once there it's a regular file just like any other. There is no "streaming" concept within PDF.
You can secure the PDF so only certain people can open it (for example using certificate policies or even DRM) but they can still move the file about - it's only at the stage of opening it where the security control starts.
And you're correct - non-DRM 'permissions' security on a PDF is largely just smoke and mirrors for anyone who can open the file, as removing your print/edit/display preferences is a 10-second job. The only real case of a PDF being "uncrackable" is if the document has a very long OPEN password and the user doesn't know what it is. If they can get as far as seeing the pages on their screen, they can do pretty much anything with it.

  • Submitting a PDF form --- save and send completed PDF document?

A small government site has a number of 'submittable' PDF
    form documents
that they'd like me to include on the website. I am not very
    familiar
with PDF forms in this way, and hope someone here can help
    sort out a
    few things...
Can a PDF form be submitted so that
    a) the completed PDF doc is saved on the server (and renamed)
    b) a printable , completed PDF (looks just like the one they
    filled out,
with all their values saved in the input boxes) is emailed to
    specific
    address
    c) the raw user data is saved to database (maybe a list of
    fields in one
column of a db table, and a matching list of values in
    another? this
would just be for backup in case the completed PDF did not
    save
correctly to the server, or for later reference)
We've looked at the standard Acrobat 'submit via email' and
    that won't
cut it... that method appears to simply trigger a 'mailto'
    popup, with
the pdf as an attachment. Our system needs to be automated
    via CFmail.
None of these would handle any 'sensitive' information, the
    main
concern, from their part, is people being able to submit the
    form and
have both the city office and the recipient get a copy that
    prints just
as if they had hit 'print' when filling out the actual PDF.
Is all of this possible ??
    if so... any tips appreciated!
