  • Gmail will not send emails from mail

On my Gmail account I am unable to send emails from mail on my iMac. I have OS X 10.9.1
I have tried several times turning on and off 2 - step verification.
I have also entered the generated password in the SMTP server as well.
Message says: SMTP-server.gmail....  Could not connect
When I edit SMTP server list how do I fill that in.
ie Description, server name TLS Certificate.

  • Problems with default ports when sending email from Mail

Anyone know how to get around this, when trying to send an email from Mail on my Mac? :  "Connections to the server ' ' on the default ports timed out. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."
It appears when connected to my new wifi at home. Incoming mails appears.
    Thanks!

The default email account selection is when you are outside of the Mail client only.
If you are in your MobileMe account's Inbox or Sent mailbox when selecting new message, your MobileMe account is the default account used, and the same for your work account.

  • Cannot send emails from mail account.

    Hello everyone,
I've had this problem a while, that basically when i send an email from my account it says
Cannot send message using the server xxxxxxxx
when i try other servers it still doesn't work and i get the same error message. I have other computers on which mail works from the same server, same port same password etc. so why doesn't this work.
If you can help me i will be eternally greatful as i won't have to keep jumping on someone elses computer to reply to mail.
    Thank you in advance
    Fred

    Hello Fred.
If you’re sure your settings are exactly the same as on the computers where it works, here a couple of things that you may want to look at.
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.
Mail keeps information about outgoing servers in a separate list, independently of any specific mail account. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause weird sending problems.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn’t be there. The Edit Server List panel shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.

  • Can no longer send emails from Mail on iMac but CAN on MBP

Initially, when Mobile Me ended, my email was changed to work with iCloud and it worked fine for about seven months or so.  Then, it started giving me an error message (on my iMac, my Macbook Pro, and my iPhone) that said it rejected my password. After a long phone call with Apple, they said that the iCloud server was having problems with certain accounts.  They seemed to have fixed it and the mail started working again.
Then it stopped sending email BUT ONLY on my iMac (message says that stmp rejects my password).  I have the exact same settings (and password) on my Macbook Pro and the iCloud/Mac/Me mail is received and sent without trouble.  I have Snow Leopard on both computers and the same version of Mail on both computers. My Thunderbird email client receives and sends my iCloud/Mac/Me email on my iMac without a problem.  Apple Mail receives and sends my other email addresses (gmail, hover) without a problem.  Gmail is set to POP and Hover is set to IMAP.
    What I have tried:
    1) I have deleted the iCloud mail account and re-created it using instructions from Apple Support online as well as Mac users on the forums.  (I am not an IT expert, but I can follow instructions.)
    2) I have removed all saved iCloud/Mobile Me passwords from my keychain (both incoming and outgoing) in case there was an old one stored there.
    3) I have created a new IMAP account.  I have created a new Mobile Me IMAP account. I am not given the option in Snow Leopard of creating a new iCloud account -- but as I said the iCloud account (called Mobile Me IMAP) is WORKING on my Macbook Pro.
If I were having the problem with the Macbook Pro rather than the iMac, I'd just go to the Genius Bar and let them handle it.  But, if I can do it without packing up and carrying my desktop, that would be preferable.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Lanny,
Thank you for this.  I followed it "to the letter".  In fact, I tried it twice to make sure I didn't miss any steps. Both times, everything went as described until STMP.  When I got to the STMP page and hit "create", it once again told me that the STMP server name and/or password were "incorrect".  My iCloud mail arrives fine, but nothing can go out because the outgoing mail does not recognize my password (or at least that seems to be what is happening.) I tried to give up and set Thunderbird up as my default mail client, but iPhoto doesn't recognize it and when I want to email a photo, it opens Apple Mail. I just do not understand why it works on my MBP and not on my iMac. Nothing was changed on either computer.  It simply stopped sending outgoing mail on the iMac and continues to send out on the MBP.
    It's a mystery.

  • Can't send emails from Mail with microsoft word attachments

Ok, this is a weird one. About a month ago I realized that people weren't receiving my emails sent from Mail when I attached Microsoft Word documents to them. I can attach anything else, but the second I throw in a .doc, the email simply won't be received. It will send perfectly fine, without any errors or signs of problems. Ever heard of that before? Any ideas?
    12" Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I've been sending ".doc" files from both Mail and Entourage for some time without a problem.
Having said that, is there a chance that your Internet Service Provider is somehow blocking some file types?
I've recently come across a cpouple of European internet providers who do block executables and key file types that are known to cause problems or that might contain viruses/trojans.

  • I only want to send emails from mail (not receive)

I am apprehensive in setting up my Mail because I don't want it to import any emails from my online email account. I don't want all that stuff on my hard drive and I like to access it online from whatever computer.
Is there a way to set up your email account so that you can only email out, but not receive/download the emails on to your computer?

Set up your account, have it Enabled, but do not select to have it included when automatically checking for new messages, and also click on Mailbox in the menubar and take the account Offline. In Mail, and Offline account can be used to send, but will not collect new messages. There are a few providers that require you to have at least logged into the serve one time, and authenticated.

  • Cannot send email from mail after moving to iCloud

I have just moved to iCloud and now I cannot send email but can still receive email

    Hi Judy,
    Problem solved.
Go into Mail/Acounts and delete you iCloud account.
Now add a new account and type in your details for MobileMe/iCloud.
It should now work. O noticed the default server name is different.
    Hope this helps.
    Yours,
    Charlie

  • Can't send emails from Mail (btinternet)

Suddenly my outgoing emails have stopped working - Im on BTInternet. SMTP settings haven't changed, but nothing.
    Ugh! Any ideas anyone?
    10.8.2

Spent two hours on the phone today with BT. They escaleted the problem to a specialist support desk, which we then had to agree to paying a £30 charge if they were able to fix the problem as they say that it is a problem with mac mail. (Which it isn't because it works fine using a different broadband connection, and we have three laptops in the house all with same problem!).
All three laptops have been working with out fault for the last four years and just before christmas they all stopped being able to send emails using hotmail. Obviously BT have changed something somewhere along the line.
The Specialist just changed our outgoing mail server to use BTs instead. (I have been using a different SMTP server anyway as a temporary fix since christmas) Whilst we are able to send emails, we are still unable to connect to hotmails SMTP server. Still had to pay the £30 though. As far as they are concerned that still counts as a fix. Another "solution" they gave me was to change the DNS address in system preferences- Not Ideal as everytime you connect your laptop to a new network you will have to reset them.An absolute joke.
Their direct number is 08000 321 118 if you need them to talk you through it. Best to have your bank card to hand.

  • Cannot send email from Mail through .mac account

I have recently opened a .mac account and started using the email service. It works fine online however I am having difficulty sending messages through the Mail application in Tiger.
Whenever I attempt to send a message, a dialog box appears saying "Cannot send message using the server smtp.mac.com".
I have tried looking at the setting in preferences. I have deleted and .mac a/c setting in Mail and re-set them up, all the problem persists.
    Please help!

    Hello David.
Who is your ISP used for connecting to the internet and are you accessing an email account snd SMTP server in Mail provided by your ISP?
If so, can you send messages with the email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP?
Most, if not all ISPs now block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP used for connecting to the internet) on Port 25 which is the standard port used for SMTP servers. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only (such as the .Mac SMTP server) that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
These restrictions are part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
    Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
Test if this resolves the problem.
If not and you are accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail that is provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account which is invisible to all recipients.

  • Can't Send email from Mail or Entourage

I tried posting this last night, but it doesn't seem to be showing up anywhere. Just last week my computer stopped sending mail. I can receive fine, but not send. I have tried in Entourage and in Mail. I'm using a POP account and use a different server for incoming and outcoming.
It worked fine until last week and the same thing works fine at my work (using the outgoing server from my work and using my home ISP at work) I use my ISP outgoing server at home and have even tried using a trial for MSN, and my work ISP to see if another ISP would do it but it doesn't.
It comes back in Eudora with an error message: "Mail could not be sent using the account "Brian". A connection error occured. Error -3260. Mail says The message could not be appended to the Outbox.
I've tried changing from port 25 as well. I also tried setting up a new user account and starting Mail up new and fresh with the same results. My wife sent something at 9:00 and 1 hour later the problem started, so nothing was installed new at that time. Just upgraded to 10.4.4 today to see if it would help.
    iMac Mac OS X (10.4.4)
    iMac Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I'm not sure how you come to this conclusion. If you
can send mail with any email account and SMTP server
when connected to the internet at work but not when
connected to one of two personal ISPs when connected
to the internet at home, how can this be a computer
    or Mail.app problem?
Because I have a different computer at home than the one I have at work. Were you thinking it was the same computer?
If this is a computer or Mail.app problem, don't you
think you would also have problems sending mail when
connected to the internet at work?
Not if the computer at work isn't broken like I assume the computer at home is.
Do you have dial-up internet access at home for both
    ISPs?
Both ISPs are dial-up. One is All2Easy (This is the ISP I used first) and one is MSN. A new development is that I can no longer dial up using All2Easy. I get online using MSN. I can still send mail from work using the outgoing mail server of email.all2easy.net though.

  • Cannot send emails from Mail App

I cannot seem to send any mail from my desktop mail app for some reason (it USED to work!!).
This is the error command it gives me:
"This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The server "smtp.mac.com" refused to allow a connection on port 25."
I've had a look at some of the settings and a fiddle round with them but I still suffer from the same thing. It has resulted in me having to log into .Mac everytime I want to reply to mail I recieve in my mailbox!
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Cheers.

I just received the update last night. Now today I am also unable to send. I called support, Apple said it was my ISP, they said it was Apple. I still can't send. I think it is Apple, but limited support has not helped.
