Send iMessages to non apple users with my iPad air

My macbook air is intermittent in sending iMessages to non apple users. Also, when it does work, it does not show the name of the contact even though they are in my contact book.

You cannot send texts from an iPad.

  • TS5185 My IPAD will not send messages to non APPLE users.

Today, Christmas Day, while trying to send a message my IPAD wanted me to turn on iMessage. There was no option not to do this. After it was turned on I could no longer send messages to non Apple users. After reading online that I could set send SMS on my IPHONE I did. Now I guess it send everything as an SMS message. Now my IPAD will not send messages to non Apple users. I guess Apple wants us to pick our friends only if the use Apple products. This is about as stupid as it gets. They want us to only communicate with Apple users. The only other option is to turn the feature off. Why have iMessage in the first place.
So my situation is I can send SMS Messages on my IPHONE. I cannot send any messages to non Apple users on my IPAD and iMessages to my Apple users.
This kind of stupidity is why I switched from Windows to Apple in the first place. Don't they test anything out anymore at Apple?

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think that you might be doing something wrong.
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support
To use Continuity for SMS and MMS with your iPhone and your Mac, iPad or iPod touch
Your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch need to use iOS 8.1, and your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
Sign in to iMessage on your iPhone, your other iOS devices, and your Mac using the same Apple ID.
    On your iPhone:
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By, and add a check to both your phone number and email address.
Go to Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.
Your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch will display a code. Enter this code on your iPhone to verify the SMS feature.

  • Why can't iPad mini send text to non apple users????? I wish I knew this before purchase

Why can't iPad mini send text to non apple users????? I wish I knew this before purchase

iMessage is from Apple to communicate with other Apple devices.
iPad is not a phone and does not have SMS/MMS services from a carrier. There are apps that can do this, search the App Store.

  • Iphone trying to send iMessages to non iphone users - HELP!

My friend just switched from Verizon to Sprint. He has NEVER had an iphone. He currently has some type of galaxy or android. As of last night all of my texts to him are being sent as iMessages (which he obviously doesn't receive). He's had the phone for two weeks and up until yesterday we were able to text via SMS with no issues. I still get his texts - he gets nothing from me and it only shows on my phone as going through as an iMessage. I've tried deleting his contact and adding it again. It still shows up blue in my contacts as if it's an iphone (which it obviously is not). I know I can turn off my iMessage on my phone but I like using it because the majority of my friends and family have iPhones. Is there any way to fix this??

I am having the same issue in the US.
I had a 3GS and switched to an Android based phone.  My wife now has a 4s and all messages from her were going to my old iPhone instead of my new phone.  My old phone does not have service, but still works well on wifi.  My messages would send fine, and I could send and receive from non-iPhone users without issue.  I then tried sending to an iPhone 4, and once again got an iMessage back on my old phone from that person.
    Fix:
I pulled the SIM card from my new phone, had the iPhone users delete and re-enter contact info for me.  The first time they send a message to me it goes out as an iMessage, but then re-sends about 5 minutes later as a regular text.  Once the thread has started, it goes back and forth without issue.  If they delete the thread off their iPhones, the process starts over again and the first one takes about 5 minutes to resend as a regular text.
I know iPhones with iOS 5 will always send as an iMessage first if that is enabled (and why wouldn't it, it's a great feature) but it needs to go to Apple's servers first, then resent as a non-iMessage.
I am not sure if others are experiencing delays in first run text messages to others and think the delay is teh network, when it may the iMessage function.  I would like to see some feedback from others if they are seeing delays?

  • Sending iMessage to non-verizon users

I have an iPhone 4s. I can send an iMessage to other iPhone users as long as they are verizon customers. I have one friend who is an iPhone 4s user as well but she has ATT.  We used to be able to iMessage each other with no problems.  Now all of a sudden if I send her an iMessage it will only go through as "Sent as Text Message".  But if she sends me a message it goes through as an iMessage.  If I respond right away it will go through as an iMessage.  So basically when I initiate the message it will only send as a text message.  And then she does not always get the text message. But this really just started a few days ago! please help.

The other user needs to have a device that is iOS 5 capable have iMessage and a data connection enabled for example if they have an iPhone 3 (not the 3GS ) which will not support iOS 5 or higher then iMessage is not an option on that iPhone

  • Unable to send texts to none iPhone users with my iPhone 6

I am unable to send or recieve text messages from non iphone contacts of mine. I've looked under settings and my SMS option is on.

SMS messages are sent through AT&T, since you have SMS enabled check another setting.
    Settings>iMessages>Send & receive
Make sure your phone number is listed, not just your Apple ID.
If your phone number is listed, try doing this:
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
(This would delete any saved Wi-Fi passwords but no other data)
If that doesn't work, you'll need to contact AT&T

  • How do I convert docx files to doc files when sending to a non-apple user?

When I send files as attachments they crash the computer of a colleague.  He thinks that if I convert them to .doc documents his computer won't crash, but my apple doesn't seem to provide that option.  Any ideas?

Microsoft Word files are cross-platform, so if your colleague has Word installed he should be able to read them, unless his version predates the introduction of docx, which seems to be the case.
When docx was introduced, Microsoft provided a converter for Word 2004 that enabled users to read docx files from Word 2008 (the first version to use them). Possibly they did the same for the Windows version.

In addition to Neils fine comments, you'll need AIM 5.9 for the PC and a little fine tuning.
AIM 5.9 can be found here: http://www.aim.com/getaim/win/otherwin.adp?aolp=
And the fine tuning overview here: http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html

  • Can iMessage be used with non iOS 5 users, ie non-apple users. My new i-pad 2 error message says these contacts are not recognized by imessage when I try to text some of these contacts.

Can iMessage be used with non iOS 5 users, ie non-apple users?
My new i-pad 2 error message says these contacts are not recognized by imessage when I try to send them a text.

So that means that I can send text messages through my i-phone to reach non iOS 5 users, but not through my i-pad 2.

  • HT3529 can my daughter send text messages to non iphone users with only an apple id?

Can you send a text message from ipod touch to non iphone users with only an apple id and no phone number?

The Apple Messages app will only send Messages to another uses who has the Messages app on their iPod touch, iPad or iPhone. For Messsging an iPod touch or iPad you use the E-mail address they have in Settings>Messages>Send and Receive.  An Phone number will also be listed if they also have an iPhone with iOS 6 using the same Apple ID and yo can use the number.
You can Message an iPhone by its phone number of the Apple ID email address listed in Settings>Messages>Send and Receive.

  • HT3529 Will iMessage send messages to non Apple phones? If so, is it automatic or do I have to keep changing settings?

Will iMessage send messages to non Apple phones? If so, is it automatic or do I have to keep changing settings?

If the recipient does not have an iOS device (or Mac) with iMessage activated on it, then it will send as SMS or MMS as appropriate. You don't need to change any settings.
The only time you'll run into an issue is sending to someone who used to have an iDevice and neglected to turn off iMessage when they got something else. They will have to address that so that you don't have to forcibly send messages as SMS/MMS.

That setting is only related to iMessage. It causes iMessages to be resent as SMS if iMessage fails.

Have you contacted your carrier to make sure there's no issues with your account?

Before the service reset function. Wait 24 hours to activate imessage.

go to the settings and turn off imessage
but that don't change the issue that you will never be able to facetime eachtoher
the appleID is really meant as the handle that identify you it was not meant to be shared
but can see that people may want to do not buy apps more then once
