Send iPhone contacts to Lexus RX 400h address book using a MacBook Pro?

This may the wrong place to post this, but perhaps it will catch the eye of other Lexus owners who have come across this problem.
Since the iPhone has no way to send contact information via Bluetooth as required by the Lexus address book system, I was wondering if it might be possible to spoof the Lexus into thinking my MacBook Pro was a phone, and therefore allowing me to send the contacts via Bluetooth (perhaps using some extra 3rd party contacts transfer software too?)
I guess there are a few questions I would need to answer before even trying it out. Does anyone know what contact format the Lexus is looking for? For example the format the Blackberry uses works fine, so I guess I would need to be able to send in that format, what ever it is.
It seems likely the Lexus would not recognize a MacBook Pro as a capable Smartphone and would therefore perhaps not offer the option to transfer the contact info. However there is a small app in the Developer Tools called 'Bluetooth Explorer' which appears to allow you to change the software setup of the onboard Bluetooth hardware so it appears as a Smartphone. Anyone know anything about that?
Any constructive ideas appreciated, thanks.
P.S. I am aware the simplest way is to get another compatible mobile phone such as a Blackberry or Sony Ericsson phone to do the transfer, but since I don't have one to hand, I thought I would look into this option.

Have now tried to connect the MacBook Pro to the Lexus, but although the mac sees the Lexus as a headset (as it should) when I enter the Passcode, they fail to shake hands so the Mac is not added as a 'phone' on the Lexus. This is fairly understandable as the Mac will not be presenting its self as a Phone>Smartphone device, but rather a Computer>Laptop device.
I thought I could get it to spoof the Phone>Smartphone bit using the Bluetooth Explorer app, but that doesn't seem to work as I had hoped.
Something else I noticed using Bluetooth Device Inspector (http://www.radioactivetoy.com/), my OS 10.5.4 MacBookPro shows the following Bluetooth services:
Serial Port (SPP)
AV remote Control (AVRCP)
my iMac and iBook which are both on 10.4.9 show the following services:
OBEX Object Push (OPP)
OBEX File Transfer (FTP)
Serial Port (SPP)
It seems Mac OS 10.5.x has removed the OPP protocol from the Bluetooth device. I'm pretty sure OPP is what the Lexus would use to receive the Address Book data on a phone, so this would be needed.
As a result of this, I tried connecting the iBook to the Lexus, but still had the same connection issues as before, so I wasn't even able to test the contact transfer.
Unless someone knows how to get the mac to show as a mobile phone, I don't hold out much hope for this method of transferring contacts

Runnig 10.6.8 on a MacBook PRO.....

The easiest fix if you're running Snow Leopard is to export all your contacts, then import them into something like google (I already had a gmail account), and then just use google to sync your contacts instead of icloud (via the sync with Google button in the address book settings).
Its a bit sluggish to update, but it works well.  You can then point your iphone, and other iOS devices to use google for contacts too.
If Apple don't want to look after their customers, other companies will gladly do so....

  • If I enter a new contact in Address Book on my MacBook Pro it copies onto my iPhone via iCloud but editing an existing contact does not copy to the iPhone

I have set up my new iPhone 4 to sync with my MacBook Pro using iCloud as default.  This works fine with Calendars on iCal in both directions.  However, I am struggling with Contacts because new entries on the iPhone appear on my Mac's Address Book fine but erratically the other way.  New entries on the Mac seem to appear OK on the iPhone but edits to existing accounts do not appear.  Also, many entries were missing when I imported the main list from Mac to iPhone but that was done by cable through iTunes before setting up iCloud.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • IPhone Contacts vs Mac OS X Address Book

Why is it that the iPhone can connect to and sync with Exchange option and multiple Google Apps Contacts accounts, and the Mac OS X address book cannot?
Seems like it should be a simple upgrade?
Are we ever going to be able to have simultaneous sync of contacts with multiple Google accounts or not? Seems like people have only been asking for it forever...
Why no response from either Google or Apple?

I think Address Book does that through Mobile Me.
Nobody here knows what Apple or Google are thinking.

  • Lost all but eight contacts from my address book on iMac, Macbook Pro and iPhone all lost by iCloud

When I try to access Address Book from my backup HD I cannot ... and I get this message: "You can't use this version of the Application "Address Book" with this version of OS X. You have address Book 5.0.3. So what! It worked until this morning. Now what?

Mail by default will show everything in your inbox, irrespective of how old it is. The only way I know you might be able to change that is by creating a Rule that alters how older emails are treated. Most likely you would know about any such Rules, assuming this is your personal machine. You can see if anything like that exists on your account by looking at Mail>Preferences>Rules tab.
I presume you are just talking about your regular Inbox?

  • Transfering new contacts to address book in my Macbook Pro

Previously, I synced my mom's iphone contacts into my macbook pro. So the contacts in my address book are hers. Recently, i got my own iphone and i would like to transfer my contacts into my macbook. So how do i transfer the new contacts?
Thanks, i will appreciate any help or feedback.

sorry where do I find the sync history to reset in itunes?
so if i understand you if i have only 100 contacts on my laptop and 500 on my itouch and i sync the two those 500 will go over to the laptop from the touch with no special resetting or instructions other than hitting the sync button.
why i am cautious is because after updating my OS some how some way i lost most of contact in address book on my laptop and am hoping just syncing the laptop with the itouch in i tunes will restore them. is that whatz going to happen i hope?

  • My address book on my MacBook Pro does not include changes made to my iCloud address book.

I have an iCloud account and use an iPhone and my MacBook Pro for my calendar and addressbook.
When I make changes to the addressbook from my iPhone, they appear on iCloud (from Safari) but do not synch with the addressbook on my MacBook Pro.
This just began to happen this week (August 10, 2012).
    Any ideas?

Thanks for linking your Address Book Accounts Basics (with iCloud). And for all your forum contributions - invaluable!
A possible tip to add is the obscure option key solution to the question: to what groups does the selected contact belong? When the option key is depressed all associated groups are displayed.
On syncing: is there an Applescript or utility that will audit every linked iCloud account, Mac and iOS device for discrepancies between the Contacts databases? I thinking of the simple case like ours, where we want everything stored in the iCloud Account once-only-once, plus whatever Group-ings are useful. Even better - a script or utility that will force synchronization across all our devices and iCloud?
Another useful tip might be: here are all the things you must do to achieve simple syncronycity - everything the same everywhere, no private contacts. That is probably what 99.99% of users want, and it is not documented anywhere. Even Joe Kissel's Take Control of iCloud v1.3 doesn't address this.

Levi G B ... Also found another thread by Davidfromsurfside on 10/14/11 0703A with the same problem. I responded on his thread "I have the same problem. IOS5 on iPad1, iPad2 and iPhone4S all with iCloud on. Lion 10.7.2 installed on my MacBookPro and iCloud set up/on. Any new iCal entry on either iPad or on the iPhone ends up via iCloud on both iPads and iPhone. BUT NOT ON THE MacBookPro. • I have just fired up a new ipad, and am not getting the "info" tab in the bar, so I can't sync my contacts from my address book on my macBook Pro ... ??

Any clues as to how I can get this happening, and sync all my data that I can sync to my iPhone ? I don't seem to be getting all the faclilities I am suppopsed to ... most frustrating.

With Mavericks you won't get the Info tab, you use iCloud to sync contacts - from http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12117 :
If you use OS X Mavericks v.10.9 or later, your contacts, calendars, and other info are updated on your computers and iOS devices via iCloud. For more information, see iCloud Help at icloud.com.

  • When i try to sync my facebook contacts to my address book on my Macbook pro, they dont all move across.  Any tips would be appreciated.  I jhave tried to sync them through the settings.

I recently bought the macbook and went through the settings to merge all contacts from Hotmail and Facebook.  For some reason, only some of the contacts have come across and i cant upload any of the photos to them.  Does anyone have an easy to follow solution?  thanks

This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

  • HT1245 copy contact from all to personal address book

Whenever someone sends contact details to my iPhone, Contacts defaults the save to All Contacts, but won't add the contact to my personal address book.  How do i copy a contact from the All Contacts directory to my personal address book using the iPhone only?  Thus far it has been necessary to sync contacts through iTunes and then copy the vcf, but there must be an easier, more direct method … surely there must …
    Can someone help please?
    Many thanks

Ninety five percent of my customers are real estate agents. So have been hanging on to their 10-12 year old XPs. Ones with Outlook kept using it with the Win7 upgrades or new machines.
I did import one Outlook.pst file with lots of grouped addresses recently while it was still on the XP machine and didn't have this problem with it. Copying the TBird profile to Win8.1 was not a problem.
I suppose it is only characterized by OE and since OE is going away perhaps best to just forget the problem.

    Hi azuldelf,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
In addition to using iCloud, you can sync your iPhone to your Mac using iTunes.
See this article for more information about how to sync your contacts:

  • New/Updated contacts on iPhone 4 not syncing to iMac Address Book

    Greetings,
    My problem:
When syncing my iPhone 4 with iTunes 10, iTunes will sync contacts FROM my iMac to the iPhone. It will not sync new or changed contacts from the iPhone TO my iMac (no two-way syncing).
    Further background:
I recently had Apple replace my hard drive and restored from a Time Machine backup. Everything is working properly except this.
    What I'm using:
    * iPhone 4 w/ iOS 4.1 (latest)
    * iMac 2.4 GHz Intel running OS X 10.5.8
    * iTunes 10.1 (54)
    Example:
If I create a new contact on my iMac, it syncs with the iPhone as expected.
On the iPhone, If I edit the contact originally created on the iMac and re-sync, the changes do NOT sync back to my iMac.
If I create a new contact on my iPhone, it does not sync with Address Book.
What I've tried so far that has not worked:
1.) Unchecked and re-checked "Sync Address Book Contacts" in iTunes (one-way syncing works fine)
2.) Used the "Replace information on this iPhone" for Contacts within iTunes (contacts from iMac overwrite iPhone as expected)
3.) I had a trial MobileMe subscription that I cancelled months ago.
Went into the iPhone > Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > deleted the MobileMe account, keeping existing data on my iPhone.
4.) Unchecked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Went to /users/[username]/Library/Application Support/AddressBook, deleted AddressBook-v22.abcddb and /Images
    * Went to iSync app > Preferences > Reset Sync History
    * Verified new addressbook and /Images folder were created
    * Re-checked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Performed another sync using iTunes
    (One-way sync works fine)
5.) Deleted all Address Book entries
    * Unchecked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Went to /users/[username]/Library/Application Support/AddressBook, deleted AddressBook-v22.abcddb and /Images
    * Went to iSync app > Preferences > Reset Sync History
    * Verified new addressbook and /Images folder were created
    * Re-checked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Performed another sync using iTunes
Can anyone offer some suggestions? I have my address book backed up, but I'd really like to be able to perform a two-way sync from my iPhone to my iMac's Address Book.
    Thanks,
    Rob

No need for apologies!  Yes, it was checked.  Looks like I have solved the problem now and it was something very basic - in the preferences of Contacts on the iMac.  Looks like it's all synced now.  Thanks for replying!
