Send MIDI Audio to Audio Track

Here's what im trying to do...
i record some drums using Battery 3, in a INSTRUMENT track using my midi keyboard...
sweet, now in the EDIT window i can see my nice little midi tracks there and yes playing my drums i've just played on my MIDI keys.
what im trying to do, is send what i hear coming from the MIDI/INSTRUMENT channel, to an AUDIO TRACK so that i can record the drums back into the MIX view, as if i were recording LIVE drums
this would be awesome.
so basically treating it like an MPC, record the drums on MPC then send to an audio track in LOGIC so i can track all instruments out.
can THIS BE DONE!
thanks in advance!

You can mix virtual instrument too into the MIX view!
If you prefer an audio file then solo the Batery track(s) and bounce it to disk selecting an audio format among SDII, WAV or AIFF and enable the checkbox Add to audio window.
cheers

  • Am I being stoopid - changing multiple sends in Audio/Track MIxer

    Hi
I can set the send bus in multiple tracks by shift clicking and doing it in one channel strip. According to the manual I should also be able to set the send level, pan etc for all selected channel strips simultaneously. When I try this it doesnt work - is there any reason?
    best

You are right that is what it seems to do. But the manual says:
Audio Objects in the Audio and Track Mixer
Audio Objects are the building blocks of the Audio Mixer, and an important part of the
Track Mixer. In the following section, you will learn about the differences between
Audio Object types and how you can use them.
    Multiple Selection of Audio Objects
Logic allows multiple Audio Object faders to be selected (by Shift-clicking) in the Track
Mixer and Audio Mixer. The class (Instrument, Audio, Bus, Aux, and so on) of the
    channel doesn’t matter.
To deselect multiple channels, click on any unselected channel. You can also select a
previously unselected track in the Arrange window.
Once selected, all channels behave as a temporary “group”, allowing you to quickly
adjust a number of settings on all selected faders by performing an operation on one
of the grouped faders. To adjust the listed parameters on all selected channels, follow
    these instructions:
    • Volume: Simply drag the Volume slider on any selected channel. All volume changes
    are relative and logarithmic.
    • Pan: Drag the Pan knob on any selected channel. All pan changes are relative.
    • Mute: Click the Mute button on any selected channel. The Mute buttons of all
selected channels will switch to the new mode.
    • Solo: Click the Solo button on any selected channel. The Solo buttons of all selected
channels will switch to the new mode.
    • Record Enable: Click the Record enable button on any selected channel. The Record
Enable buttons of all selected channels will switch to the new mode (note that only
channels with different input sources can be record enabled simultaneously).
    • Send Level: Drag the Send level knob on any selected channel. All Send level knobs
of the corresponding Send slots change accordingly (relative changes).
    • Send Destination: Click-hold on any of the selected channel’s Send slot(s), and make
your selection from the list. The corresponding Send slots of all selected channels will
be routed to the chosen destination.
    • Inserts: Click-hold on any of the selected channel’s Insert slot(s), and make your
selection from the list. The selected effect will be inserted into the corresponding
Insert slot on all selected channels.
This I can't do - without using groups.

  • Chord Track and Previous Midi/Audio Tracks

How do I include loops in some tracks which are transposed using the Chord Track while leaving previously created midi tracks untransposed? I've tried a couple of different ways but everything gets transposed. So, of course, it sounds awful.

Any chance this is in the wrong forum?

  • Audio tracks output splitter method? or splitter plug-in? PLEASE Help

    Fellow Logic-addicts,
I am scratching my head around a problem.
I already use a lot of external hardware processing, and nearly always as inserts
    processing(compressors,eq,analogue filtering)
Until sometime ago I did the same for using more send-return type of fx like
    reverb/delays/modulation etc....
Thus I had to duplicate a dry audiotrack and process it, and bounce then blend in with the other track.
In a recent project I mixed, I ended up with some sessions with a leadvocal track
and 5 copies of this track all processed through various fx like short reverb, short delay, long delay, doubler etc..., because of using hardware fx.
I wonder if it's possible in Logic to insert the hardware fx on a bus, so I could simply use the aux sends on the track's channel strip to send to that bus and to avoid piling up identical audio files in a Logic project, which also is clumsy
in the workflow, because when I apply hardware fx to a lot of tracks there are doubles/triples everywhere and it gets confusing and too crowded?
Other possibility, I've been searching like a madmen for years for an audio track's output splitter plug-in(like Spider in Reason), but I have found NONE
    in the AudioUnits realm.
Does somebody know about such a plug-in to work in Logic?
I still don't understand why the Apple-developers didn't think of including such a plug-in, because it could allow amazing routing possibilities, like in this case, you could send the audio track to the main output(1-2 or whatever)
BUT also to alternate hardware outputs, so you can use a hardware reverb unit, + a hardware delay unit etc...to which the audio track is being sent , and then you could blend the results back in Logic more easily.
Or more: you could even avoid copying tracks for sidechaining as you could use one track as is to main outputs but also connected to the sidechain input of other tracks processing, wich would make this also easier.
Or what about outputting and grouping drum-tracks(kick-snare-hh-etc...) to multiple busses so you could have a very flexible setup for parallel processing, with many
more sonic possibilities= drum-group going to a bus with hard-compression, while another goes to a softer compression, and a third one a distortion/beef bus with tape/tube processing, then you could all blend those tracks with faders, like on a real console and not piling up inserts on one bus, wich is more limited sonically, especially if the processing you use doesn't have a dry/wet knob.
If any of you sees a better alternative, or method to achieve what I want in Logic, or want to discuss that topic and chime in, be my guest.
I am not an expert of Logic, so you Logic geniuses= rise and shine!
Thank you very much for your advice
    Best Regards
    Biggnik

Wow - long post to say "can I use hardware boxes as inserts?" and the answer is yes, and you have been able to for a long time.
I don't know why you're doing some odd "duplicated track" thing... weird...
So, for inserts of regular channels, just stick Logic's I/O plug on the channel. Tell it which audio output you want it to send to, and which audio input to receive from. Patch up the appropriate ins and outs on your interface to your hardware box/patchbay/mixer/whatever and bob's your uncle.
You can also do this on aux channels, so if you want to send a bunch of tracks to a hardware reverb, you'd put the I/O plug on the aux channel you're using in the same way as described above. Now simply use the sends on each channel you want to send to that aux (and therefore hardware reverb).
Note you'll need to have software monitoring turned on.
Another way is to just set the output of a channel or aux to the extra audio outputs on your interface, and bring the outputs of your processing hardware back into spare inputs and feed them into the Logic mix using input objects.
Lots of ways to do it in Logic.
    And no duplicate recordings needed...
I still don't understand why the Apple-developers didn't think of including such a plug-in, because it could allow amazing routing possibilities, like in this case, you could send the audio track to the main output(1-2 or whatever) BUT also to alternate hardware outputs, so you can use a hardware reverb unit, + a hardware delay unit etc...to which the audio track is being sent , and then you could blend the results back in Logic more easily.
You can just do this already with mixer routing alone, no plugins necessary.

  • Audio Track Panning

    Hi
I'm re-doing my autoload template in LE 8, and have a question. I'm sending 3 audio tracks to an aux track for effects processing. The audio tracks are set as mono tracks. When I record a region to these tracks, there's no panning on the individual tracks, only on the aux which I'm using as a submix. The Audio Instrument tracks I'm doing the same thing with don't behave this way. There's no stereo option at the bottom of the Channel Strip for the Audio Instruments, but panning is available on these individual tracks as well as the aux submix. I assume I'm not understanding something about what's going on with stereo and mono tracks, and about why Audio and Audio Instrument tracks don't act the same way. Any help?

+"When I record a region to these tracks, there's no panning on the individual tracks"+
Surely this is normal on Audio Tracks being recorded? Panning might be confusing (especially if you're recording with your headphones off one ear, as is quite popular)…
Could you be really clear about which Window you are looking at for each of the stages you describe? I'm not sure there actually is a problem here at all… in fact, you haven't really said specifically: what is the problem?
(Not trying to be hard on you here; just trying to follow what you're saying so we can sort it out without too much guesswork at our end.)

  • Logic Pro X keeps sending C0 notes to midi out when record is armed on a audio track

I have a annoying problem with Logic Pro X, which I bought a month ago. Here's al little scenario that describes the problem.
I disconnect my audio interface, so that Logic Pro has to rely on my MacBook Pro's internal audio. This way I exclude my RME-FF800 from being of any influence.
I start up the Midi Monitor tool, to analyse what comes out of Logic; MIDI-wise.
I start up Logic set up a small test project in Logic Pro X, that contains:1 audio track
There's little button on the audio track with a red-colored "R". This is the button to "arm" this track for recording audio.
I push the little "R" button, the R-character turns white, the button as a whole turns red. The button starts blinking.
From this moment on Logic starts sending MIDI messages ....... huh?  Every second or so ... a low C.
In my regular studio setup this means that I hear a low repeated note coming out of my piano, every time I record audio.  How annoying!!
By the way ... a Guitar/Bass track has the same problem. All the other track types (External midi, software instrument, drummer) don't have this problem.
Help is deeply appreciated, because it drives me crazy and if I can't fix this .... I think I have to return to my previous DAW-of-choice (Cubase 7.5).

The note is likely being sent out because of a Control Surface you have installed or used.... be it a hardware keyboard, controller or even an ipad controller app... such as Logic Remote or TouchOSC for example... or even an iOS software synth app that is sending midi over wireless....
So.. first make sure you have force quit any iPad/iPhone Logic/midi related apps and not just closed them..
Then if that doesn't fix things.. delete Logic's CS preferences... and Logic's own user preferences too...as described here..
    Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
    Restart the computer.
Do not forget to Quit Logic before doing this and then restart the Mac after doing this....

  • Audio Track Recording (Armed) button plays a midi sound when it flashes red

Hard to explain but when I click the "R" Record/arm button on an Audio track it makes a sound through my midi device (my keyboard) in time to the flashing of the red light.
I've just installed an RME Fireface 800 and I'm using the MIDI interface to connect this to my keyboard and use through Logic
Does anyone know how to turn this off? When I actually start recording it eventually turns itself off, so it only happens when I arm the track.

it sounds like logic is trying to send midi to a control surface telling it to display the record light. I'd check in the control surface setup window and see what's there.

  • Midi and Audio tracks simultaneously armed for recording

All, whilst engaged in laying down the bass track for the guitar solo section of my latest monster his, I encountered one of those sorts of frustrations that makes one long for some means of swift egress from this mortal coil, this vale of tears: that is, while laying down my totally awesome bass track that when they hear it will send JP Jones and Boosty Collins to employee as actuaries, I kept getting the hateful "unable to synchronize the audio and midi error." I'll spare you the catalog of the various lame attempts I understood to remedy this problem, as well as the curses directed toward my fate, and Daw ineptitude in general. Then I nnoticed that both the software instrument tracks (Addictive drums) and the audio track (aforementioned bass) were both armed for recording, signified by the red R in the track header! Well, upon de-arming the software instrument track I was able to record by bass line in a mimimum of takes, and as visions of illegal intozicants and comen of questionable morals dance through my noggin as recompsense for my trouble, with to make the point to all relative newbies such as myself that the answer to problems that seem on surface intractable as usually staring you right in the glazed eyeball.

    What?...
I'm sorry maybe I don't understand everything you are sayng... but I can replay to the titles of the Topic!
Actually recording a MIDI instrument and an Audio Track symultaneously comes with serious bug!!!
you cannot use Punch-in on Fly when an Audio and instrument track is armed at the same time...
or better you can but the MIDI and audio output will be dropped for a moment

  • Why I have to mute Audio Voice Recording Track always in order to subdue the voice recorded when I want to solo other tracks, audio or midi for listening. The other audio tracks don't sound without being muted. Please advise how to deal with this .Thanks

Why I have to mute the Audio Voice recording track  ( the first voice track ) always in order to sudue its recorded sound while I want to listen to other
tracks ( either audio or midi tracks ) in solo ?The other audio tracks with voice recording do not have to be muted in order not to  interfere with other
tracks turned on solo. Can someone kindly explain this phenomenon and any way to fix this ?
    Thanks
    Dan

    Thanks, ATR,
I wll try this--but I still am unclear on how to do what the Manual says is possible: select clips on another track that WILL be moved, if I so desire, so as to remain synched to the main Video track.
    UPDATE:
In the case of inserting Freeze Frame, I just tried both Ctrl method and Alt method, and neither worked.
    1. Put Video on Vid1 track
    2. Put Music on Sound Track
    3. Ran a few seconds of Vid
    4. Stopped Vid, selected Freeze Frame
    5. Held down Ctrl key while clicking "Insert in Movie"  also tried with holding down Alt key.
Result: a 3 second still was inserted int the Vid1 track.  A corresponding gap was created in the Sound Track.
    6. Slid the final part of the Sound Track to the left along the timeline to re-connect it to the next segment created by the above process.
Result: the video following the final Freeze Frame was pushed to the right end of  Video1 track.
    7. Slid the Sound Track all the way to the left.
Result: the entire Video 1 Track contents were pushed to the right and divided in pieces.
I documented each step with screen shots which I can send if you want them and if I can figure out how to do it.
    UPDATE #2
In the case of inserting a video clip to the Timeline, I just tried both Ctrl method and Alt method, and neither worked.
    1. Locate video in Project Assets
2a. R click video in Project Assets (pull-down menu appears), hold down Ctrl, click Insert to Timeline.
Result: Vid clip is inserted on Video 1 track, Sound Track is separated with a corresponding gap.
2b.  R click video in Project Assets (pull-down menu appears), push Alt
Result: pull-down menu disappears as soon as Alt is pushed down.
I can stil drag the Vid clip but it's one more manual step...I love shortcuts!!

  • No output from recorded audio tracks, only midi tracks..please help

I've been working on a song in Garageband and suddenly lost audio from real instruments and can only hear the midi from last night until today.  It consists of 3 midi tracks and 9 audio tracks.  I have software plugins or FX on almost all 9 tracks with amplitube or similar.  Things are slow as the arrow is red at the top, however last night I was able to still make changes - slowly.  I was able to do a mixdown and export to mp3.  Then I shut the computer down.  Today I open up Garageband and can only hear the midi tracks of my song however other songs I have work totally fine.  Nothing is muted and I've checked everything.  Levels meters are moving on all the tracks, I can just feintly hear one guitar track.  This is frustrating. I even tried locking half of the tracks and still nothing.  I've rebooted etc and same
I'm running Lion with a TC Konnekt 8 sound module, on a 2.4 core duo 2 MBP with 4 GB of ram

I ran onyx and did a clean up etc then rebooted, loaded GB and same problems.  I turned on the ducking thing, everything looked ok and then once I hit play everything worked again.  I've turned off ducking and it still works.  Could this be a glitch as I've never enabled it before

  • How can I turn off the sound from the original midi  or audio tracks when I turned on the duplicate tracks for editing ?

How can I turn off the sound from the original midi or audio tracks when I edit or listen to the duplicate tracks in Logic Pro 9 ?
I'm using iMac desktop with Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. Pls advise.

    Dan,
It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.
    Hope that helps

  • No audio tracks when sending from Final Cut?

    Hi,
I'm working with a 90 minute edited sequence in final cut that I've nested in another sequence to create a continuous video with a stereo audio track. When I send it to soundtrack (multitrack project) for mixing, the video is there but the audio tracks are blank.
Does any one know why this is happening or have suggestions as to what I might do differently?
    Thanks in advance.

I ended up exporting the sequence inside my nested sequence and that worked as it should.
But all of my audio tracks were given their own track in Soundtrack which wasn't what I wanted. Finally I exported my nested sequence "for soundtrack" and applied the effects and filters to the resulting file's audio tracks and saved it. I then imported the file back into FCP, put it in a sequence and made any adjustments that I needed before exporting it with compressor.
I don't know if this applies to what you need to do but I hope it's helpful.

  • Is there a way to show/reveal the piano roll (or score) from a midi input when recording an audio track in Logic 9?

I'm trying to record audio tracks in Logic 9 over midi tracks I've created using a software instrument.  I've done this before, and there used to be a no problem in seeing the midi information in the piano roll or the score while recording audio tracks, but it now impossible to reveal.  Has ayone else exerienced this?  Was there a change (update) that eliminated that as an option?  Or did I do something in preferences somewhere (unbeknownst to me when doing it) that has caused this?  Thanks for any suggestions.

Just open the piano roll fro the regions you want and deselect the chain icon at the upper left.

  • HELP! External MIDI is playing EARLY compared to the audio tracks!

    Hi Guys
I have a project in L9 which has about 12 audio tracks, each running a few effects (fairly basic ones, nothing too heavy).
Tonight I am recording a rhythm part on an external MIDI device (my Kurzweil synth). I'm quantising this part to 1/8 notes, and in the piano roll editor, it's lining up perfectly after quantization.
However, when I play back the project, the MIDI is all EARLY!
I've tried soloing just the MIDI and the click, and the MIDI part runs uniformly early compared to the click track.
I believe this has something to do with the delay compensation that is in effect across all the audio channels... what's happening is that all the audio content is being delayed so all the tracks sync with each other. But for some reason, MIDI is not part of this delay compensation, and is playing in perfect time, and hence sounding early compared to the audio material.
I've done a test new project with just one MIDI track, and when quantized, it DOESN'T suffer this problem... ie, it aligns perfectly with the click track.
Is there any way to get external MIDI instruments to be part of the delay compensation process? Or is there some other solution to this issue?
Really desperate here as this has come out of the blue and I can't think of any way to solve it!
    Thanks heaps guys,
    Mike

Is this something new for Logic 9?
I don't know, I have never used external MIDI with Logic (8 or 9) - but think it is new, yes.
I wonder if there's a way to set the global default for MIDI so that it always has delay compensation? I can't see why anyone would want to use an external MIDI device and not have it in perfect time with their audio material!
Yes, there is. You'll have to set it up in AMS first (choose *New Device*, and then configure the device and cable it) In Logic, you'll have to go into the Environment. You need a *Standard Instrument Object* for a monotimbral device, a, *Multi-Instrument Object* for multitimbral devices and a *Mapped Instrument object* for Drummodules. Explanation starts on pg 1082 of the LP9 pdf manual.
Once it is all setup, you can make a template of it, or you can import the Environment layer into new projects.

In my Logic 10 song I have a midi instrument that I want to record as an audio track. I can find no way to get the signal from the output of the "harmonica" track to the input of the audio track, apart from recording it using the external speakers. It must be simple to do, but Apple help is no help. Can somebody please help?

    Use "Bounce Track in Place".
