Send object to background PAGES

Hello
i have had my macbook for 3 days. i am still learning and trying out things i find in tutorials or hot tips. one thing i want to do is send and image to the background of a pages doc so my text will appear over the top of it.
i followed all the steps in the hot tips but the last command wont permit. the last command is to go to arrange > send object to background. i can see where to do this but the selection is grey and i therefore cannot select it.
can you offer me any solutions or reasoning please?

To be able to move an object to the background, it must be:
selected,
defined as floating.
To define the object this way, go to Inspector > Wrap
Select the button "Floating"
It may be useful to uncheck "Object cause wrap".

Send object to background?!?

How do I send an object/graphic to the background so that all of my text will be visable? Everytime I select the graphic, the arrange buttons become active but they do not send it behind the text. It does nothing. The edge of the graphic is covering up the number 15. Even when the text is highlighted, I'm not able to send it to the back.

Make sure the object is unlocked and not inline in the text:
Menu > Arrange > Section Masters > Move Object to Section Master

Can background pages set to black background be made to open in black right away, instead of flashing white first.

I have the background color of Firefox set to black so that pages are black with light colored text. However, when Firefox is loading, and when I open a new tab or window, the page is initially white while searching for the website, then turns black as it starts to download. Is it possible to change the initial white page to black also?

The page color will always be white. You may lay a rectangular shape over the page, set it's color as you wish, and send the graphic object to the background (Arrange > Send Object to Background). Having done this, any text will appear above the colored graphic. You will need to set both the text color and the text background color to your preferences using the Text formatting tools. Transparent would be the best choice for the text background, and white would be a good choice for the text.

Really having problems with organising documents in pages. For example, deleting pages deletes the whole section and I cannot insert a section break as its greyed out & sending an object to background deletes several pages - what the **** is going on???

You can not insert a section break into a textbox.
You appear to have a lot of objects with wrap set, that once you take them out of the flow of text (by sending them to the background) causes the text to reflow and contract into fewer pages. Pages is almost unique in the way it forms up pages in Word Processing mode only so long as there is text on them.
I suspect you probably have hammered away at returns, spaces and tabs as well to position things, which only works to add to the mess.

PS There is quite a lot of programming in OSX that is far from "intuitive". Pages is easy at one level, when using the templates, otherwise it can be quite frustrating.

Anchored Objects Disappear When Page Moved

I'm working in InDesign CS2 in XP environment. I duplicated a page that contains anchored objects. It was page one; the duplicate page is now page 5. I modified the duplicate page 5. Now I want the altered page 5 moved into page 1 position.
When I move the pages either by dragging or by right clicking on the page icon and using the Move Page command, all anchored objects on the page disappear. I also cannot release the anchored objects because the release command is disabled when I select an object with the selection tool.
Any suggestions?

I got your file, and after looking at it, it's probably better not to post it publicly. For the lurkers, it's a draft government document, not yet ready for release.
Anyway, I took a look at the file, first in CS2 where it was created, and then in CS3 to see if it would behave differently.
First, the anchored objects aren't really gone, just temporarily invisible. if you select the objects and move the page, you can still see the selection outline. It's some sort of screen display bug/glitch, I think, in CS2. Exporting to .inx didn't fix it, so I think it's not corruption, and it doesn't happen at all in CS3.
The bad news is I have no way to explain what the problem is, or how to prevent it from happening. The good news is I found a way to make them reappear! Select the text frame with the selection tool, and change its stacking order. I tried Ctrl + Shift + [ to send to the back, and Ctrl + ] to bring forward, and both seemed to work, though it may make a difference where in the order they start out. If one attempt doesn't work, try again, or send all the way back or forward.
For what it's worth, this is only a display problem. Even when the anchored objects are not visible on the screen they show in both printed and exported PDF.

We have stastical internal order defined and same we are using in Asset. Let me explain the scenarion.
We created the Purchase requisition with the stastical Internal Order then we did Purchase Order and MIGO -Goods Receipt.
Now we realised that wrong Internal Order was used. Now we want to tranasfer cost from that Internal order to New Internal Order. we are trying to post through KB11N but while giving the all details i am getting error as per below;
No true sender object entered
Message no. BK175
Diagnosis
You have entered a statistical object as a sender. Statistical objects, however, are only intended for use with dual account assignments.
Procedure
1. If you require a dual account assignment, enter a true object as a sender also.
We are using cost element with having cost element category 90.
I don't no which is the true sender Object.

Your postings had happened to a statistical internal order. I hope the real postings might have happened to a cost centre.
You cannot settle anything from a statistical internal order. It is just for information purpose only. If the above posting had captured a cost centre (real posting), you can distribute/assess the cost from the cost centre to a real internal order for your purpose.

Not sure about Utilities on your iPad. Do you mean the Settings app?
First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appear. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.

How do I send a link or page with Windows 7

In Vista in was able to send a link or page from the file button on top, now I do not have this option. I don't know where to find this option or how to do this?

There is an option to "Send Link..." in the File menu. Firefox does not have a built-in send page by email option.

Calling a method in BPM Object from jsf page

How do I call a method in BPM object from JSF page? Is it possible to invoke it in a manner similar to invoking a method from managed bean in JSF application?

You can use f:invoke (or f:invokea to with parameters)
For ajax calls, you can use f:invokeUrl to get the URL to a particular method within your BPM object, although make sure the Server-Side Method property is set to Yes.

Using sender fields in a Pages document

I must have a misunderstanding about the way sender fields work in Pages.
1. Open a Pages template with sender fields, like a resume or a letter
2. Put the cursor in a sender field
3. In the link inspector, click on the pop-up and change, for example, "Work Street" to "Home Street"
Shouldn't the field in the document now show my home street? For the life of me I can't get it to change.

Yes, I realize that. But the problem is/was that the inspector should be able to change an already existing field. Otherwise what is the point of the pop-up menu?
To illustrate: open a Pages template, like a letter. Put the cursor in a field, say telephone number. In my case the default number in a letter template is my work number. I want to change that to my home number. So in the inspector I click on the pop-up and change to home number. It stays the same--remains the business number.
I thought the problem was a funky "me" vCard but it is still there. The only way I can "change" fields is to delete them and add via the "insert" menu.

I tried both ways and neither works. It gives me a prompt box that I have to click "next" for every page but after going thru all pages, nothing is sent to the printer.
Also, all directions I've read indicate it will print to the default printer. If my default printer is on a network, will that cause problems....
and...
should I be getting a prompt box on every page? I thought all this would happen behind the scenes and not force me to interact with every page.

Positioning Objects on the Page.

Hi, Expert:
How can I position two objects on the page relatively? Say, I have two data tables, or one data table and after the table, some other object (button?, etc). B/c I don't know how many rows will return from the database, if I placed two tables too close, the first table will overlay the second one below. Is there a way to place them relatively so the second one will be always at the end of the first one?

Yes, and it's pretty easy :)
Drag and drop a GroupPanel component to the page and put both tables into it.
Or you can try changing the layout of the page to Flow Layout, but I use the GroupPanel.

Can I use a different mail client to "Send a Copy" from Pages?

One of my favorite Pages features is its ability to send someone a copy of your document in Pages, Word, PDF, or ePub format via email with only a couple clicks in the "Share" button. But this feature only works if Mail, Apple's email client, is set as the default email client for your Mac. Because I use Unibox as my email client, I'm unable to take advantage of the "Send a Copy" feature in Pages. Is there a work around for this or a settings file within the system I can tweak to allow me to use a mail client other than Apple Mail to "Send a Copy" from Pages? Thank you!

No, I haven't heard that. YOu have to do it the old fashion way and attach a document in your mail client before sending the mail.

Need to send object instances over the network

I found no other way to implement a switch case to cast objects on both sides to solve my problem.
Basically I need to send objects over a network protocol based on XML, the object is sent inside XML
converted in base64, overall encoding of XML is utf-8.
Let's suppose in my network there are 2 peers connected via socket.
I have multiple instances of different types on both peers but I want to keep these instances
synchronized. If something changes on side A, side B must receive that instance and replace
it in the correct place (just one way, from A to B).
When I receive such instance on B I want to cast it to it's proper instance
of it's proper type and I am scratching my head on how could I implement this without some
sort of unique ID table and switch case.
If I had 1 instance per type could it be done easily?
But I need to keep in synch many instances per type.
Is there any dynamic casting that I can trigger based on some type/instanceID information
I could send along the object?
