Send to Premiere Pro - Which codec?

I tested ingesting some sample footage, copying the original footage to a folder, then also two transcodes, ProRes 422 and Prores Proxy each to their own folders.
I then sent the project to Premiere Pro.
Is there some rule about which codec Premiere Pro will link to?  Is it the order that the transcodes are queued, or the original media or what?
The Premiere Pro project I ended up with had mixed codec types.  Some were native, some were ProRes 422 andsome were Proxy, which is not quite what I'd hoped.
If I know what the rules are I guess I can follow them, but I can't find where these are written down.
Thanks.

I did the test again with multiples cards and different transcode order (copy / mxf / prores, mxf / copy / prores, prores / mxf / copy) and I did end up each time with my first choice into the prelude project.
I'm using Prelude 1.0.2 and Adobe Media Encoder 6.0.2 on Mac OS 10.8.1
I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I allways launch AME before starting ingest (not letting prelude launch it by itself).

Checked for updates and there are none.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Codec Recognition

I know this has been posted before, however no one ever got to the bottom of this. But here is the issue again: Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 isn't able to recognize the MJPEG codecs that I've bought and installed on my computer. I'm only given a choice of the codecs that Came with Adobe (which ultimately isn't really ideal at all).
Has there been a solution to this problem since March? (which the last thread was posted).
If you still don't understand the problem heres what happens:
Open new project > Select Desktop as editing mode > In Video Preview, there only appears to be the list of codecs that came with Adobe:
This problem is past quite annoying, I can't get any work done because of the (MASSIVE) rendering times.

So this is a decision made by Adobe? Thats kind of odd but anyways, Ill probably use I-frame as i've tested it out before and it delivers incredible speeds for previews as well. Thank you.
However this brings me to my next question, why is it some people are able to view and use third party codecs in Pro?
I didn't say it was an Adobe decision - I only put forth the possibility that it might be.  Remember we are talking about preview files here.  These are the files that make the red render bar go away when you press the Enter key.  They are temporary and can be easily re-generated if necessary.  They have nothing to do with your final export, unless you tell Pr and the AME to use those files instead of the original source video.  I can imagine a scenario where the Pr engineers would want to severely limit the codecs that could be used for those files.
So the third party codecs are all available to you for export.  The export settings dialog in Pr is part of Pr, even though it looks exactly the same as the settings dialog in the AME.

  • Send to Premiere Pro from Prelude

    Hi,
I am new to Prelude and Premiere Pro, having used FCPX previously.
I have ingestedfootage into Prelude, made subclips of the footage and created a rough cut of the sequence.
I am trying to send the rough cut and clips to Premiere Pro, however the option under the File Menu to do this is greyed out. I am not sure what I have done incorrectly. The clips have all been ingested, the rough cut and project have been saved in Prelude.
I am using the current creative cloud versions of Prelude and Premiere Pro (as at 5 July 2013)
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I have the same problem with
Macbook pro OS 10.9.1  Prelude CC 2.2.0 has " send to premiere" greyed out
Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1 loaded ( and running) on same machine
used to work before last upgrades.
have deleted all and all reloaded CC apps from scratch.
any solutions? It used to work.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 codec problem

Hey all.  Here's the problem.  At work I use Premiere CS3 on an old Edius box that has Canopus codecs.  When I archive a final copy, I use a DVCPRO HD codec, specifically the Canopus SD50/DVHD codec, to an AVI file.
At home I have a new copy of CS5 on a new machine.  I brought home some of these AVI files from work that used the Canopus SD50/DVHD codec.  I could not open them up at home on anything.  I went and found the codec and installed it.  Now I can open the files with Media Player no problem, but I cannot import them into Premiere, Adobe Media Encoder, or After Effects.  The result is audio and not video.
Any suggestions that don't include re-exporting everything using a different codec?
    Thanks!

Any suggestions that don't include re-exporting everything using a different codec?
Unless there is a 64-bit version of the codec, you're limited to doing just that. You might be able to drop $160 on DVCPRO HD: MainConcept. No guarantees that'll even work though.
I'd just convert them to Lagarith Lossless Video Codec or Ut Video Codec Suite; they're lossless, free, and will both work in Premiere Pro CS5.

  • After Effects and Premiere Pro, Which do you use first?

Hi. I use premiere pro to edit my videos and now I am learning about after effects and removing blemishes with AE.
My question is, do I edit my audio, colors, etc. in premiere first then do after effects for blemishes or vice versa? I don't want to start and do it backwards. I hope it all works as planned. I am going to try the clone stamp tool, if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know. Thank you so much!!

In most cases the most efficient workflow is to edit in Premiere Pro, pick the shots where you need to add effects or compositing that you can't do in Premiere then use one of the following techniques:
For simple AE projects right click on the shot in Premiere Pro and select Replace with After Effects Composition
For more complicated effects and compositing shots copy the shot in Premiere Pro and paste it into AE or render just the shot to a suitable frame based production format and import that into AE
For very complicated shots pick the take and trim the shot in Premiere Pro leaving handles (a few extra frames on the head and tail) and render them to a 10bit or better production format for use in AE
When you have completed your work in AE if you have used step 1 then just save your work and go back to Premiere Pro. For the second and third option, render your AE comps to a suitable production format and import them to Premiere Pro where you will replace the original shots in the sequence.
Note: MP4, H.264 and other MPEG compressed formats are not suitable for production, only for delivery. Don't render your DI (digital intermediates) using these highly compressed formats.

  • Send to Premiere Pro. Not loading anything into Premiere.

  • Audio gets lost when sending to Premiere Pro

    Hey fellow Prelude users.
I encountered a nasty problem. I ingested some AVCHD Clips in Prelude and edited them and made many, many clips out of the footage. Then I sent it to Premiere for further edit. Unfortunatly at some Clips the audio is now missing, even if there's audio in Prelude. I tried to export just the audio from Prelude to match it with my roughcut but also the export has no audio at the points where the clips with missing audio are.
When importing the Clips without the new metadata by Prelude the audio is just fine. This seems to be a pretty weird issue.
    Hope you can help.
    Thank you,
    Alex

I have run into the same problem with AVCHD footage. Initially, I thought that the problem might involve the transfer feature in Prelude CC's Ingest function. I had used that when ingesting the problem media, to move source clips to a couple of different folders on my edit station.
I subsequently realized that probably wasn't the case, since I had logged the clips in Prelude after they were ingested. So, they had sound when I ingested them, but not later, when I imported them into Premiere Pro CC.
The audio loss was complete on one clip--no sound at all on the clip or subclips when I opened the clip in Premiere. The audio loss was partial in the other clip--the audio level flatlined about three-quarters of the way through the clip. Each clip was about twenty minutes long--an interview with a subject for a documentary I'm shooting. I set subclips for each response that I planned to use in my cut of the film.
I keep my source cards as backup, so I was able to go back and re-ingest, this time without using the transfer feature. Instead, I copied the source card to my edit station, using Windows Explorer. Then I used Prelude ti ingest and log the copied media. That appears to have imported into Premiere without problem.

  • Prelude not sending to Premiere Pro CS6

Hi, I am running WIN7 and testing out the Prelude to PP workflow and not having very good luck.
Yesterday it seemed to allow me to right click, 'send to PP' and it would do that, today, NO.
I have tried the different routes, but all it does is open PP with no content....
other threads I searched didn't seem to provide a solution, any ideas?
    Thanks!

Well, after screwing with it a little more without sucess, I have decided my workload at this point doesn't really need Prelude in the workflow... I find doing the cutting and sorting in PPro is just fine... perhaps if I end up editing larger projects, Prelude will make more sense at that time, and the problem with it losing roughcuts+clips between the two apps will be resolved by then.
Good Luck to anyone else experiencing the same issue, for now I'm unistalling Prelude.

  • Mavericks/Premiere Pro which is the worse evil?

I've had nothing but problems with this program on Mac.  Had to upgrade to Mavericks but have lost projects, lost parts of projects, crashed my computer, couldn't access, won't read folders in my elements...   I'm really beginning to hate Macs but at the same time the customer service from Adobe has been dreadfully aweful... Real quick to sell you the program, then tech support not only takes hours, but in the end is and I quote "well I can't help -- you should call a local IT person" WHAT!?!?!?!    Do I get a new PC and dump Mac or do I dump Adobe Pr and get a new editing program?

  • Premiere Pro CS4 (which includes Encore CS4) Failed to install

HI everyone,  I am trying to reinstall Premiere Pro (which also includes Encore CS4) since I seem to be having some problems with the Blu-ray authoring in Encore.  I uninstalled Premiere Pro from the Add/Delete Programs in Win XP Pro Control panel.  After uninstalling, I'm trying to reinstall Premiere Pro/Encore programs.  However, I'm getting an "Error Code 2" for Dynamic Link, Encore CS4, Encore CS4 Codecs, and the Encore US Language Pack.  Then the install stops and fails to complete the installation.
Anyone have any ideas what's happening here?  My system specs are below.  I don't know what's wrong in order to fix it.

  • Kodak videos lag in Premiere Pro CS4 timeline

    Hey all,
Apperently there's a bug in Adobe Premiere Pro which makes it difficult to edit videos that were captured in a Kodak camera.
This issue was discussed here before, but even after reading all threads in the subject I could not solve the problem.
I've been trying to convert these files (.mov) to many other formats and codecs with no success.
After a while I got to find this crappy software that claims to specialize in converting Kodak's video files (iOrgSoft Video Converter).  Between many tries of various softwares that was the only one that did  it right. I'm looking for another way to convert this file correctly so it will work well in Premiere.
Does anyone have any idea about this?
    Thanks in advance,
    -Moshe.

    Hi,
If CS5 handles this right than I  guess that's about it.
Thanks again for both of you.
This is CS3...with the mainconcept plug in trial ....as mentioned earlier...your original source loaded GREAT into the project...and plays great...etc....
The plug in trial gives that logo thing and has a limit of 5min video I think....although I've exported stuff with this and the logo was NOT on the final export...or was much smaller .....dont know if that would influence you on trying the plug in...
But what I mean to say is with cs3 it works great with the original file you supplied as a sample...
( I used this in another thread here where someone was trying to get timecode to run backwards...which is why you see that timecode thing...)
    good luck with everything !

  • In Premiere Elements 8, None of my projects will open. Says projects were created in Premiere Pro

In Premiere Elements 8, None of my projects will open. Says projects were created in Premiere Pro, when they were not. Cannot create new projects either. Basically, the program is completely bricked an unable to do anything once it gets past the welcome screen.
My projects are all saved as .prel
They were all working, when suddenly none of them would work any more. I can no longer use this program, and I really need to. Have already tried running the program as an administrator and creating a second admin account. Also tried going to the basic graphics driver.

Thanks for the helpful additional information. Because of the nature of the description of your problem (references to Premiere Pro which you do not have et al), I would encourage you to go directly to the following which I suggested previously by the following question.
    5. Have you gone the route of Uninstall/ccleaner run through - regular and registry components of the cleaner), reinstall?
    1. Uninstall Premiere Elements 8 via the usual Control Panel/Installed Program area route.
    2. Download and install the free ccleaner and run the computer through its regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts.
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Open the program to see something like
Click on "Run Cleaner" with the "Cleaner Tab" selected in the left column of the dialog. Click OK to the pop up to initiate the automatic process.
After the regular cleaner portion is done, then click on "Registry" in the left column of the dialog. It should look something like
    Click on "Scan for Issues"
    when done
    Click on "Fix selected issues"
    when pop up appears
Click Yes to "backup changes to the registry"
    when done
Click "Fix selected issues" in the pop up that now appears
    when done
    Click Close.
Please read all the details in the ccleaner link before starting. If you need clarification on anything written before you begin, please do not hesitate to ask.
I use this procedure routine for computer maintenance without issues (Windows XP 32 bit as well as Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 64 bit). It is a widesly used tool.
We will be watching for further developments.
    3. Reinstall Premiere Elements 8 with antivirus and firewalls off. After installation of 8, now do the download and installation of the 8.0.1 update from Adobe via the link
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4653
That 8.0.1 installation can be done with Premiere Elements 8 closed.
Adobe set up that 8.0.1 Update so that they is no 8.0.1 shown in the program after installation of it. You will probably get a message of installation completed successful. The major evidence that it has been installed will be the turn off of the previously default "Automatic Background Rendering" in preferences. You still have to turn off the "Automatic AutoAnalzyer" in Elements Organizer, a must do.
    Please review the above.
    Thank you.

  • Whenever I use Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014, My macbook occasionally re-boots automatically! Any idea why and how to fix it?

I am using a Macbook Pro 15" late 2013 model, and it works great. However, when I use Adobe Premiere Pro (which is a lot as I am studying editing) it occasionally freezes for a second then reboots itself. I got the details of the error and pasted them into this document[1] if it is of any help.
