Sender check for outgoing mail

Hi,
I want to enabled sender check on all outgoing mail. i.e ironport should check if the from address is listed in my ldap.
This is required because spammer is sending mails by compromising legitimate users credentials and sending mail through out setup.
all the spam mails which are quarantine on ironport are having invalid from addresses.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
HOmesh

Deploying SPF (Sender Policy Framework) might decrease such incoming mail traffic using your email domain namespace as forged senders in SMTP envelopes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework
To deploy SPF using it's most strictiest policy, you must be able to declare legimate sources where the mail from your domain can be originated from. Ip source addresses, netblocks, FQDN names, reverse domains, etc.
If you have one singe (or clustered) C-series mail router in DMZ and all the mail traffic from @yourdomain.com can be routed outbound fvia these C-series boxes only, then you can setup your SPF records that way, that only your C-series box(es) are legimate mail sources.
If you use RFC 1918 private addressing internally, that's it.
If you use public, routable ip addressing internally, you might need to add that network into your SPF record, but it depends how the mail traffic is routed there.
The configure your Ironport C-series appliances using SPF. If you have inbound forged mail coming in and if the source ip addr of SMTP peer is not listed in your SPF records and if you use strictiest SPF policy, your C-series appliance will reject these inbound connections.

How can I increase the file size limit for outgoing mail. I need to send a file that is 50MB?

You can't change it, and I suspect few email providers would allow a file that big.  Consider uploading it to a service like Dropbox, then email the link allowing the recipient to download it.

  • Is it possible to keep an email account on the iPhone but stop if from checking for new mail?

I have an email account that has been deleted from the provider (Gmail), but I want to keep the old mails on my phone, while stopping it from checking for new mail.  Is this possible?
If I disable the account to stop if from checking for new mail (and producing a bunch of annoying pop-ups every time the mail app is opened), the account becomes invisible and the old mails disappear.  I want to keep them visible to I can read and refer to them, but want to stop the phone from trying to download new ones or check the account.
    Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the thought.  In this case, that doesn't really help much, as it requires a bunch of button pushing just to check emails.  Plus, if I'm not mistaken, in addition to switching modes every time I check email, it also prevents the other accounts from downloading the most recent mails as well.  Since it's possible to keep an account on a Mac computer, but take it offline, it's very disappointing if there isn't a way to do the equivalent on an iPhone so that it passively holds the mails but doesn't send constant pop-ups every time the app is accessed.

  • Mail stops checking for new mail until closed and re-opened

This problem began a month or so ago and is only getting worse by the day.  I have my Mail app set to check for new mail every minute, but recently it randomly stops checking at all and displays the triangle icon next to each Inbox.  I have 10 different email accounts that I use Mail to check and they are a variety of different types from Exchange servers, to IMAP accounts, to POP accounts, iCloud, Outlook.com, Gmail, etc.  Part of the time only 2 or 3 inboxes are affected, while other times (more recently) it’s ALL accounts.  Clicking on Get Mail doesn’t help; no new mail is downloaded.  The only way to get Mail to “wake up” is to close the app and then re-open it.  When I do that, there is a flood of new mail that pours in to each account that had been offline.  There are never any error messages telling me that anything has happened.  I just know that Mail is stuck because of the triangle icon.
Also, there are times when my busiest account mysteriously has no new messages over a few hours, which is very unusual. Closing and re-opening mail will resume downloading mail again to that account.  At least for awhile...
I thought I’d solved the problem by thinking that my router was only working intermittently, so I replaced it with a new Time Capsule.  The problem did not go away.
I’ve talked to Apple Support and they’ve not been any help.  I’d welcome any suggestions.

  • Using mail for outgoing mail only?

I am trying to set up mail with a work email that does not bring in mail, but I can send out using our email. We have a system in place at the moment where all emails come in through the front reception and then gets distributed internally depending on where it needs to go. I dont want to bypass this, but I do want to be able to send email and not have to use the webmail from our provider to do this.
I have tried leaving the "incoming server" blank, but it does not let me proceed without information there. Even tried making a fake one to see if that works, but it doesnt.
Any tips on how to do this? Is this even possible?
    Thanks

What SMTP do you wish to send with? If using the SMTP of your ISP, typically you can simply add the work email address as a second email address in a POP account provided by your ISP -- see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/9973.html
However, some SMTP such as that provided by Gmail will change the Reply To header to the Gmail address, and others such as that for MobileMe will not accept non-MobileMe from addresses. But the one from most ISPs will.
You can also set up an account manually, skipping the Account Setup Assistant, take the account Offline (and not include when checking for new mail), and it will still send, assuming you have a SMTP to use with it. To skip the account setup assistant, hold down the Option key when clicking the "+" to add an account. By this path Mail will not actually force the check connection to the Incoming Server

  • Sound for outgoing mail sometimes happening and sometimes not

    Hello,
I noticed already some time ago that Apple Mail seems to make the usual sound for outgoing mail only sometimes and sometimes not. It is more not happening than happening. I cannot recognize any pattern in this behavior.
Any idea what is going on here and how to fix it - or is this a normal behavior for Mail?
    Thanks.

Thanks--I found it interesting! Especially when Spell Check quit working for me, too.
    Very weird.
I went back and selected 'Correct Spelling Automatically' in Text Edit-- that works, but I don't like it either. Whoops, only intermittently. I just looked again and that's not working now. Wow, no restart of computer and I hadn't closed Text Edit-yet it stopped working.
Spell checking seems to be behaving badly. It will not underline in mail--until I change a misspelled word....and then only sometimes. At the best it's intermittent.
I hope someone found it interesting enough to fix w/the next system update...

  • Mail? How to set auto check for new mail?

Ok, I want to be able to turn on my mac, and whenever a new mail arrives it play a sound or pop up etc..
Now I made the setting in mail Preferences>General>Check for new mail every 5 min, and I tested by sending myself a email, but it didn't make any notify sounds or anything..
So my question is do I have to open Mail at startup for this to be able to work? "Open at login" or any other ?
    Thanks

To start Mail automatically, go to System Prefs>Accounts. Highlight your account then click on the login items tab. Add Mail to the list.
As for sounds, that is under the Mail prefs. Make sure your sound is turned up.

  • Mail forces "include when automatically checking for new mail"

I have two fully updated Leopard machines and a .Mac account through which I sync mail accounts, etc.
I primarily use IMAP to check mail, but I have some POP accounts set up in mail so that I can sometimes send mail from a different account. I uncheck the box on the advanced tab in Mail Preferences that says "Include when automatically checking for new mail." I have checked the box "Enable this account" which allows me to send the mails on a case-by-case basis.
The system works quite well when it stays in this mode. But sometimes the system forces the box to be checked on the POP accounts and it downloads mail that I don't want (this mail gets routed to the IMAP accounts anyway, so I wind up getting it twice).
I cannot figure out how to stop this from happening. I have made sure both machines have identical account setups. I have forced synced from one machine with the proper account setup to .Mac, then force synced from .Mac to the other machine to ensure they were equal. But it keeps happening anyway.....
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

For the purposes you have these accounts, both deselect (as you have done) Include when checking for new mail, and take the account Offline. The latter does prevent sending with the account, but will stop the undesired downloads. I have found the need to do both of these things at least since Mail 2.x and Tiger, and possibly since Panther.

  • "Include when checking for new mail" option not working

    Hi,
I have 2 email accounts set up on mail, but I only want 1 of them to pull down mail (the other will only be used for sending). For the account I don't want to get mail I deselect the box "include when checking for new mail".
However, Mail still pulls down messages from that account. When I put in the correct server settings for the incoming, it pulls all of my mail (in this case gmail), and when I put in bad settings (as a way of avoiding getting the mail) I get an annoying error message.
Does anyone know of a way to make that function of Mail work?

    Hi feuerstein.
How have you set up the Gmail account in Mail (POP, IMAP), and under which circumstances does Mail check for new mail on that account? More info, please.
BTW, Mail doesn’t automatically check when launched every account if Include when automatically checking for new mail has been turned OFF. That happens with IMAP accounts only (and only if they’re “online”), not with POP accounts, but it isn’t clear at all whether that’s what you’re talking about...

I Need to change my password for outgoing mail server on iPad 2 but it won't let me change it. I can't send out mail

I assume that you mean that the setting is grayed out and that is what "it won't let me" means. Have you tried selecting another SMTP server of you have another one available in the settings?

  • Email not checking for new mail

hi, my email has stopped auto checking for new mail ( as it is set up to) , and will only do so when i quit and restart the program
if i hit get mail while it's running, nothing happens
i can see new emails via .mac but will only get them if i quit and restart mail
also now the rules and i have sometimes work and sometimes don't
i tried sending myself test emails, and there is long delay between sending and receiving it ( about an hour )
    thanks

    hi there
    it's .mac
we did try removing the .plist file, and it made no differnce
i am getting increasingly frustrated by the mail app, it's never been a particularlty good example of MAC software ( not very stable ), but now as well as unexplainable lulls where all you can do is watch spinning clock faces ( despite having a fast broadband connection ) , i'm also having to deal with sent emails re-appearing as drafts, even though they have been already been sent
i feel like i don't have the time to keep trying to find out what is going on, as i'm very busy right now, although any help is always appreciated
    thanks
    Alan,
Refresh my memory: what type(s) of account are you
using -- POP, IMAP or .mac?
Since I believe your setting up a new User Account,
and Mail in it worked, did you ever remove the
com.apple.mail.plist, and cause Mail to need to be
setup again? To do this, quit Mail, and in the
Finder open Home/Library and locate the Mail folder.
Control-click over the Mail folder, and choose
Duplicate -- then drag the resulting copy to the
Desktop for temporary backup. Next, open
    Home/Library/Preferences and find the
com.apple.mail.plist file and drag it to the
    desktop.
Relaunch Mail, which will open as though new, and
when prompted to import anything DECLINE.
Instead, re-enter your account info, and Mail will
re-discover the account for this account, and all
    should be well.
Sorry that I have not had time to go back over every
    one of your prior posts.

  • Mail constantly checks for new mail; downloads same emails repeatedly HELP!

For the last three days (since 19th), Mail has been downloading the same emails over and over again. I first noticed a problem when about 20 spam emails that usually route to my Junk folder appeared in my Inbox. I thought I had just moved it incorrectly and deleted them, then they appeared again later.
The mail jogger cycle (next to Inbox) keeps turning and turning like it can't stop checking for new mail. How do I get it to stop?? The emails are multiplying like gremlins in my Inbox and driving me nuts!
Also, it only downloads new emails when I first open the app. I have to force-quit out of Mail, then reopen, and I will get a couple of new emails, and then ALL THE EMAILS FOR THE LAST THREE DAYS AGAIN.
Mail was working fine for me until three days ago. The only thing I've changed recently is a Software Update on the 15th for QuickTime and iTunes.
Please help! I tried to Repair Permissions and it didn't do anything. I also tried removing all messages from the server and that did nothing either.

UPDATE: I think I got it to stop checking mail. I have Yahoo mail and I checked my email through online Yahoo. I was able to delete a bunch of emails and it suddenly stopped checking for email in the Mail app.
HOWEVER, it will NOT remove some of my junk emails. I was able to delete over 100+ of them. But one specific message (which I now have 8 copies of) will not go away. It is one of those 'Delivery Status Notification' emails. Is this a virus??
I've tried Erasing Deleted Messages and Erasing Junk Mail. Neither helps. These emails won't go away.
Help please! I would be very grateful.

  • Check for new mail not working on one account

For a number of months now I have been having trouble getting new mail. I have my Apple Mail 2.1 preferences set to check for new mail every minute and play a New Mail Sound when something arrives. This seems to be working for my earthlink POP account but not my dot.mac e-mail account. The only way to get new dot.mac e-mail on my G5 tower is to alternately click on the left most icons for the different incomming tray icons in my in box, then the InBox icon itself. I dont have to do that for my second e-mail account--an earthlink POP account, or on either account on my laptop. Also, When I do click on the specific in box for my dot mac account, it takes forever to load that new mail, and the activity monitor shows that it is caching every attachment that is already in my in box even though it is already old mail.
Also, Mail seems to be following Smart Mailboxes arbitrarily. For instance, I have a smart mailbox set up to display any incoming mail from someone in my Family Group from address book, however it seems to ignore about half of these, but display the other half accurately.
Anyone know whats going on or how to fix it so I dont have to mannually keep checking for new mail? Again, I have my preferences set to check for new mail every minute and to play a new mail sound, and new mail does work fine from my Earthlink POP account.
    Thanks for your help.

If this happens to your .Mac account only, try rebuilding the mailbox, i.e. select it and do Mailbox > Rebuild.

  • Checking for new mail icon next to mailbox seems to have disapeared

After upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion I noticed that the icon next to each mailbox that shows when checking for new mail is not there.  I wonder if anyone else has noticed this, and if they have found a fix?

Yes, the little "spinner" is gone with Mountain Lion.  It's checking mail, you just don't see it.
