Do you have an IBM / Lenovo Laptop?
I do and I checked the event logs and noticed failure 680 which indicated that no dial tone could be obtained (cable not plugged it) or similar symptom.
I used to receive the error "one touch access failed to establish a network connection" using the Nokia PC Suite. I checked under start | settings | network connections and selected properties on the valid dial-up device. Then I noticed that the device was using the Internal Thinkpad modem instead of the Nokia. This explained the error 680 as the Thinkpad modem was not cabled to the phone line. After changing the connect using device from thinkpad to Nokia all worked well.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Using N95 as a Modem Via USB on O2UK Network

Hi I am trying to connect to the internet with my laptop using the N95 as a modem via USB. I have tried a couple of different ways to do this. I've tried using the one touch access in Nokia PC suite and it gets up to the part where it says "verifying username and password" then says unable to establish a connection. I have also tried connecting from the "connect to" tab in the start menu on xp (also tried vista) and selecting my mobile as the modem through which to connect. I am an O2UK Customer and i have been told the user name and pass to use to connect is user=mobileweb and password=password. Im sure this is true because it does get past the verifying username and password bit when i do it this way. But when it gets to the "Registering your computer on the network" part it fails.
What am i doing wrong. I have tried this in both GSM and UMTS mode.
are there any other O2UK Customers who have managed to use their N95 as a modem? If so please can you post here and explain how i do it.

  • How can I fax using my rendezvous printer, wirelessly via Airport Extreme?

I am trying to fax a files from my G4 PowerBook, using my printer, which is setup as a rendezvous printer, via my Airport Extreme Base Station. However, I can't get the fax program to find the printer, when it scans. It only allows me to use the Internal Modem or Bluetooth. How can I send a file to the printer and then use the printer to fax?
    Thanks. Wade

Got it - the problem is setting up and or using the modem inside the printer. The Canon website specs for that printer does say OS X compatible, but if Canon support is telling you it won't work I imagine that part of the driver that runs the dialog box and dialer isn't implemented in the Mac version. Just guessing here.
They cost $49 but you could get this USB modem from Apple and fax directly from your Mac without printing but that would be a shame having another modem in your printer.

I guess you could ask Canon if that's the reason it won't work, and if so when they plan to update the Mac driver to use the modem. You might get an unsatisfactory answer, though!

  • Using N96 as a modem via USB on vodafone

Ive been using the internet on my laptop through my mobile ever since i had an N95 now i have an N96 i carried on using the same PC Suite and as before its worked fine.
Couple of weeks back i finally got round to updating to the NSeries pc suite and checked for updates on the net at the same time. I tried updating my N96 to the latest firmware but it kept failing saying network was busy.
After doing all that i could no longer connect o the internet, i checked my phone and the software had not updated so i dont think its that.
Ive tried uninstalling nokia pc suite and re-installing it and the old version several times, i even restored my laptop back to a previous date before the pc suite update and it still didn't work after i installed it again.
There is a tool called Nokia PC Suite Cleaner which has helped others but didnt work either.
I've played around with the settings in one touch access and i noticed every time i go in it defaults to the laptop's modem even when i change it and save the settings it still reverts back to the modem on my laptop, not sure if thats whats causing it but I'm honestly out of ideas can anyone please help?

    Hi,
you have to uninstall all!!! Nokia applications, folders and clean system registry first, then restart system and install NPCS anew.
    This can help.
If you have Vista you can restore system before you've installed N-series suite. But I'm not sure, does it help in this case.
    good luck

  • How to use N9 as a modem for laptop

    Hi,
I dont have much experience with phones, so hopefully this is a simple answer.  I want to connect my laptop to the internet using my N9.  The guy at the shop said I just use the USB to plug the mobile into the laptop and away I go.  I've tried this, but it isn't working.  I read on a discussion board I need to download Nokia Link, which I did but still no internet access.  Is there something I'm missing?
    Thanks,
    Tan

I'm from the US, and there has been no alternative because Apple doesn't want people to be able to tether on the iPhone just yet. Apparently they will be releasing tethering to iPhone users here soon, but Apple took Netshare down because of that fact.
Now I don't know if there is anything else available in Paris, but you might want to contact Apple or your cell carrier and ask them, they would have a better idea about it.

  • Can I use the pdf fax with a DSL line

Can I use the pdf fax with a DSL line and, if so, how do I get the pdf fax modem to appear in my printer options? No Modems appear in my Modem pop-up menu.
    Thanks,

Should I be able to fax using the internal fax software if I set it up with the proper settings?
Yes, if it's not a purely Digital line, dial that FAX number on your Phone, does it answer with a screech?
Must I disconnect all my other lines in order to use this?
No, you shouldn't need to... do you have DSL Filters on all lines except the DSL connection, like these...
    http://www.twacomm.com/info/DSL_Filters.htm
Oh, it's not clear, do you have 2 actual Lines/Phone numbers, or do they share the same line?

  • Using N73 as modem via infrared

    Hi,
I'am trying to set-up a configuration to use my N73 as modem via infrared (iRDA).
I followed the instruction provided with PC Suite but it didn't worked.
One thing is that the "N73 iRDA modem" choice doesn't appear in the modem list (I can see N72, N93, E60 and E61 but not N73).
Is there anybody around that succeded in the set-up of such configuration ?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Manta,
    Thanks for your feed back.
I have PC Suite 6.81 installed and I get the following error message :
"Network connection failed. Modem is used by another application or is misconfigured". (I translate from the french message I have on my screen).
When I click 'help' it says :
    - I should deselected infrared from PC Suite (I did)
    - There could be another application using the same port (I changed the port but got the same message)
    - There is a problem with the modem driver (I installed Win WP SP2 on my laptop and reinstalled the modem nothing changed)
The infrared configuration is working fine with my 6310i, so...?
    Thanks and regards

  • Using built in Fax modem to fax out

I'm going start this by saying... Only if Macos X had a proper Chooser like function like classic Mac OS, and that the new Macos X help system is not as good as Apple Guide of Classic (disappointing seeing X was the meant to be the be all end all of all operating systems)...
But anyways, seeing that I have an iMac at work that only boots up in X I have been struggling to get the send/receive faxs from the computer.
I have diagramed the partial setup I have and wish to use the built in Modem that's inside the iMac Flat 17" G4 version to send receive Faxes.
    Here is the scenario.
    - I have a setup consisting of iMac G4 with X.10
    - I have a managed to see outside world via ADSL hookup
    - The ADSL line and the Fax line are two different numbers
    - Currently Only the Fax is connected directly to the Fax point, I need to also link up the Mac to the same point. Is there a splitter for such a thing?
    - I have set up the Fax so I can actually print from the Mac to it
    - I have set up the Fax so I can only send/receive faxes from/to the cannon
    - I have set up the printer/fax Preferences so to receieve fax that are based on the Fax point # and the the check box is check for allow to receieve faxes
    - I have FAXstf installed on my machine, does it conflict with the new System Faxing properties found in X.10?
    - I followed the directions presented to me from the Help docos, and the system always told me, 'Fax will be transmitted after disconnecting from Network', and it never did anything.
What are the correct procedures to follow in order to get this thing to work? Images would be nice... Reading docos isn't my thing, they remind me of the online help which MS has in place for all their applications... Web Docs is not as intuitive as guiding a user through the process like Apple Guide used to do. Just a suggestion to the Apple developers out there;/
    The diagram setup is:
    <pre>
DATA POINT <------------------> ADSL MODEM <--------> TELEPHONE POINT #1
    ^
    |
    |
    |
    v
IMAC <------------------> USB HUB <--------> CANAN 850MP MULTI FUNCTIONAL PRINTER
    ^
    |
    v ^
    INTERNAL |
    MODEM |
    ^ |
    | |
    v v
    <-------------------------------------> FAX POINT #2
    </pre>
hope the above isn't hard to understand.
    Cheers

I need the dedicated fax line due to the security system using the phone line, and that the fax should be used for faxing and telephones used for talking, unlike the previous guys comments... POTS means nothing!... People still fax you know, just like they still print... and gee the printer has been around for a little while longer than fax
But anyways... I tried to do the Fax PDF, and thats where it gets stuck... it tries to ring out but no can do. I tried this using a direct link from Mac to Fax point. Seeing that it didn't work I then hooked back the MFM to the fax point in order for the company to receive/send faxes at least from the machine.
The only reason as to my enquiry in the discussion forum is to see if I can set it up so both the MFM (fax) and the imac can send/receieve faxes at the same time or seperately. It would be beneficial to receive and send from the imac, as I'm sure we all know that printing out documents can get lost, especially when you just have one copy, and so this would at least keep an electronic copy of the item. However, during the evenings, it would be ok to have the fax machine recieves faxes or have the fax machine send faxes during the times when the computer can't. The imac is an administrative computer and at times the engineering guys need someting quick, but whats to say that the administration lady can't do it at that point in time... then they need to fax it.
The point is, is there a device which I can hook up so that the 56k fax/modem device in the imac and the MFM (fx) can go through the same point?
    thanks

  • Faxing using Apple Modem (or any other) in Windows XP on a Macbook 5.5?

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right discussion board. I'm currently using Windows XP on a Macbook Pro 13" 5.5. I need to be able to fax directly from the computer. I wanted to know if you can use the obsolete Apple Modem (if I can find one in eBay) to do it in Windows XP. (Or another third party modem that would work)
I don't want to use a fax subscription service as I only send 1 or 2 emails per months. This is for some businesses that don't have email.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
As indicated by this article, Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later is required for the Apple USB Modem.
You should probably look for an appropriate USB modem for Windows instead, if you intend to send fax messages under Windows XP.

  • Faxing using internal modem

I just bought and installed an internal modem. I can see it in More Info/Modem information.
My Fax List shows "internal Modem."
But when I try to use the darned thing, it won't send. Sometimes it says "Fax held until 12:35pm" or such, or it says, "Fax cannot be sent."
    (Phone line is working)
When I look at "Show Info" from Fax List, It says "Internal Modem," but "Host" and Driver Version are blank.
Here what I see in Modem Information:
    Modem Model: Spring
Firmware Version: APPLE VERSION 0007, 7/31/2000
Country: 22 (United States, Canada, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Latin America, Philippines, Thailand)
    Driver: com.apple.driver.AppleSCCSerial (v1.2.6)
    Interface Type: Serial
    SKU Name: UCJ
    Modulation: V.90
    Hardware Version: 6.0F
I'd love to be able to fax from my G4.
How the heck do I set it up and send a fax?

From my mac help topics (after hours of web searching...):
    Try this solution:
    1. system preferences>network>internal modem>ppp>ppp options>DISABLE this option:"Disconnect if idle for....minutes"
    2. system preferences>network>internal modem>modem: if the chosen option is "apple...56k modem (v.92) CHANGE it to (v.90) from the pop-up menu.
May be you'll need to restart your mac.
    on my Mac it WORKS!
(G4 Dual "mirror", 10.4.11, built-in apple internal modem, Internet connection with external cable modem, phone connection - digital)

  • Using nokia mobile phone as a modem problem

I want to link up two computer (running XP) throughh two modems.
First, I set a PC that use 56k dailup modem as become a server (accept incoming connection), then connected by a PC that use nokia 6230 modem as a client and success. The 56k dailup can receive the call automatically and each PC can access the local area network to another.
However, it has a problem when i try to use 56k modem to connect to 6230. it seems 6230 treat the call as a voice call and not answer to it and I must set 6230 as a server in my place.
Then, i replaced the 56k dailup modem by a nokia 6610i and installed the lastest driver. However, the 6610i cannot dailup or receive call from 6230 except a voice call.
Finally, i try to borrow another 6230 from my friend (two 6230) and all works fine.
    My question is:
    1. How can I set 6230 modem as a server to accept connection from 56k dailup modem automatically?
    or
    2. How can I make connection between 6230 and 6610i (they work as modems)?
    or
    3. What fuctions can make 6230 to connect to a 56k modem? (is it fax??coz i want to make sure another model i buy has this function)
    Thanks
    Derek

    Thank you Seraphim.
I think you are right because i just borrowed another 6230i from my friend. Now i have 6230 and 6230i, the ringing tone of the server (receive side) is different to a vice call and the connection between two computers is success.
I'm sorry if I may have made a wrong post here because i still have a problem in configing my 6610i as a modem in my windows. I have tried the "nokia 6610i Cable" and "nokia 6610i Infrared" Modem driver. I cannot dailup a call or receive data call. I saw the 6610i was trying to call out but all the calls returned "Disconnected" and even my home phone cannot be rang.
All of the cases I have tried are (the mobile phone worked as modem):
6230i call to 6230 (result: connection success)
6230 call to 6230i (result: connection success)
6230 call to Voice Phone (result: normal ring)
6610i call to Voice Phone (result: no ring, disconnected)
6610i call to 6230 (result: no ring, disconnected)
6230 call to 6610i (result: no ring, disconnected)
I have tried to set the 6610i in different windows (xp and 2000) but still fail and i also tried to replace the sim. card in 6610i by the one in 6230 but still fail....so the one i could guess is my nokia 6610i modem driver has some problems but i'm using the one that i just download today 26/03/2004, 1.0.2.4.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Fax using cell phone instead of landline

I've been all over the web trying to find out if this can be done. I did find a KBase doc that supports how to set up a bluetooth modem for faxing. But I could not get that to work. Anyone know how to set up a cell phone as a modem and use for sending faxes? I no longer have a land line and can't figure out why one wouldn't be able to use the cell for the analog line.
If anyone knows ANYTHING, please let me know. (3rd party software, tricks for Blackberry Pearl, T-Mobile restrictions, setting up to use the phone via USB and not bluetooth, etc)
Thank you so much! I'm sick of paying $20 a month for efax.com when I only need to send 1 or 2 pages per month.
