  • I am trying to send a large file and it takes over 15 hours and still doesnt send the complete file

    I am sending a large file over the internet to Graphistudio. When i try and send the file it tells me it is going to take 19 hours. when i have sent these files in the past it has never taken this long. when it does finish sending it doesnt even send all the file and bits are missing.

    What method or app are you using to send the "large" file with?  Emails, for instance are often limited to 35 or 40 MB's maximum size by the ISP provider.  You would need to use an FTP setup to send a larger file.   And what is the size of the file in MB's or GB's?  You might check out the following free FTP Apps for Mac:

  • Safari will not load pages after logging into certain sites

    Mac OS X 10.4.11, Safari 3.1 running on a Power Macintosh G4 "Quicksilver" 2002. All software updates are installed.
    After I log into certain web sites (Apple Support Discussions being one of them), Safari simply stops loading pages. It will "try" briefly but each page comes up blank. In fact, they don't even appear to download.
    This has been going on for a while now. I can't even remember when it started. I have done fresh installations of Mac OS X on to a clean disk to try and solve the problem. This has not resulted in any improvement. I am not using any extensions or modifiers.
    As an experiment, I've tried a few Webkit Nightly Builds. Those did not work any better.
    On some sites, such as eBay, Safari will put an empty file on the desktop. eBay is a prime example--after I sign in, an empty file called eBayIsapi.dll appears on the desktop.
    Seemingly this has been reported other places. What I didn't find was a fix. Is there anything that can be done to resolve this problem?

    I've just given up after several versions of Safari doing the same thing. It seems to be a bad interaction with Websense web filtering blocking some things that Safari expects to be able to download and process.
    I don't even use Safari any more because of this.

    Hi Joe,
    Was the error gone when you turned off the Bitlocker from this drive?
    If no, please refer to this similar thread's solution to resolve:

  • How to send a text file over a LAN?

    Hi:
    I am working on a program (web app using a servlet), that produces a text file with Key / Value pairs ex) NAME
    joe
    CITY
    los angeles
    I want to send the text file over an intranet (LAN) to another pc and store it in the C:\temp directory of the receiving computer.
    Is it best to use the Networking package? Any idea on tutorials or code samples to help assist me? (I posted on Servlet Technology forum; nobody answered though...thanks for any thoughts.

    one way cud be that u write a program to open a port on the computer u want to store and make that program save on the required directory. then u can send a simple file in byte format over it. but doing this only wud b unsafe as others wud also hav the access. wat u cud do to prevent is to put some kind of password so that first u authenticate to server b4 u pass on the file.

  • How to send a large file in XI ?

    How to send a large file in XI ?

    hi,
    use a splitting mechanism to convert large files into smaller files and process them as if they where independent.
    You can use the "Recordsets Per Message" parameter in the File Adapter sender comm channel by using File Content Conversion, to create a new message for each 1000,10000,etc records in the source file...this could be a way of splitting.
    If you scenario works ok for small files, maybe you can develop another scenario that runs previous the current one, that only splits files (e.g. File-XI-File) and then puts the output smaller files in the directory that your current scenario monitors.

  • Detect "end of file" while send n numbers files over a socket?

    Hi!
    Im trying to find a way to detect "end of file" while send n numbers files over a socket.
    What i'm looking for is how to detect on the client side when the file im sending is downloaded.
    Here is the example im working on.
    Client side.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class fileTransfer {
        private InputStream fromServer;
        public fileTransfer(String fileName) throws FileNotFoundException, IOException {
            Socket socket = new Socket("localhost", 2006);
            fromServer = socket.getInputStream();
            for(int i=0; i<10; i++)
                receive(new File(i+fileName));
        private void receive(File uploadedFile) throws FileNotFoundException, IOException {
            uploadedFile.createNewFile();
            FileOutputStream toFile = new FileOutputStream(uploadedFile);
            byte[] buffer = new byte[4096];
            int bytesRead = 0;
            while ((bytesRead = fromServer.read(buffer)) != -1) {
                toFile.write(buffer, 0, bytesRead);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            try {
                new fileTransfer("testa.jpg");
            } catch (Exception ex) {ex.printStackTrace();}
    }Server side.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class fileTransferSend {
        Socket serv = null;
        OutputStream toClient;
        public fileTransferSend(String fileName) throws FileNotFoundException, IOException {
            StartServer();
            for(int i =0; i<10; i++)
                send(new File(fileName));
        public void StartServer() throws IOException {
            ServerSocket ssocket = new ServerSocket(2006);
            System.out.println("Waiting for incomming");
            serv = ssocket.accept();
            System.out.println("incomming");
            toClient = serv.getOutputStream();
        private void send(File f) throws FileNotFoundException, IOException {
            if(f.exists() && f.canRead()) {
                FileInputStream fromFile = new FileInputStream(f);
                try {
                    byte[] buffer = new byte[4096]; // 4K
                    int bytesRead = 0;
                    System.out.println("sending: "+f.getName());
                    while ((bytesRead = fromFile.read(buffer)) != -1) {
                        toClient.flush();
                        toClient.write(buffer, 0, bytesRead);
                finally {
                    //toClient.close();
                    fromFile.close();
            } else {
                System.out.println("no files");
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            try {
                new fileTransferSend("test.jpg");
            }catch(Exception e) {e.printStackTrace();}
    I know that the client never reads -1 becuase i doesnt close the stream.
    Is there anyway to tell the client that the file is downloaded?

    A common (and easy) TCP/IP protocol is to send length, followed by data.
    Because TCP/IP is a stream-oriented protocol, a receiver can never absolutely determine where the first packet ends and the second packet begins. So it is common to send the length of the packet, followed by the packet itself.
    In your case, you could send length of file, followed by file data. It should be fairly easy to obtain file length and send that as a 32-bit (or 64-bit value). Here is an idea (not code) for the receiver:
    receive (4) // where 4 = number bytes to receive
    unsigned length = convert 4 bytes to unsigned integer
    while (length != 0)
    n = receive ( length ) // where n = number bytes actually received, and length = number bytes desired
    Or, you can use the concept of an "Escape" character in the stream. Arbitrarily choose an ESCAPE character of 0x1B (although it could be any 8-bit value). When the receiver detects an ESCAPE char, the next character can be either control or data. So for end of file you might send 0x1B 0x00. If the byte to be sent is 0x1B, then send 0x1B 0x1B. The receiver would look something like this:
    b = read one byte from stream
    if (b == 0x1B)
    b = read one byte from stream
    if (b == 0x00) then end of file
    else place b in buffer
    else
    place b in buffer
    Later.

  • Transferring large file over internet

    Hi,
    I am attempting to transfer a large file over the internet (around 8GB), and I'm not sure what the best way of doing it is.
    This file is currently located on my desktop at home, and want to get it onto my laptop here (not going to be home for another month or so, so going home to get it isn't really an option!)
    I'm suscribed to MobileMe, but the maximum upload file size for iDisk was 1GB. If there is a way around this, let me know! Another option I had was using back to my back and just copying the file over, but this will take quite a while (not a problem, as I'm expecting it to take a while however I do it!)
    Any other suggestions? So far, the best option I have is just simply copying it using Back to my Mac, but please chime in if anyone as any better ideas!
    Thanks!
    Steve

  • What would cause Safari to stop running Adobe Flashplayer?

    What would cause Safari to stop running Adobe Flashplayer? It's on my computer. It works with other browsers. Most websites don't complain. When I ask them to show me stuff, however,  it comes out looking like a math problem written in Turkish or Romanian.
    What about pdf files? Same thing.

    From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Security
    and check the box marked Allow other plug-ins.

  • Safari randomly stops opening pages

    Hi Everyone,
    Since upgrading to Yosemite, Safari randomly stops opening pages. It works for a while, then if I put my computer to sleep, sometimes when I wake my computer, Safari will no longer opens pages. When this happens, all apps requiring internet are affected including Firefox and Chrome which no longer work, as well as mail and iMessage.
    They only way to get it to work again is to reboot my computer - sometimes I need to do this several times.
    I have deleted Safari preferences to no avail.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks
    TB

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
    You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
    In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
    You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
    Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    ☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
    ☞ Paste into the window of another application.
    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    ☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Safari won't load pages

    I'm running 4.0.5 and off and on over the last few months it would just stop loading pages. I have it open up to the thumbnail view of the top sites and whether I would click on one of those or click on a site in the bookmark bar, it just shows it thinking. It doesn't freeze, I don't get the beach ball, it just doesn't load the page. As I mentioned, it has done this off and on for the last several months but it usually fixed itself if I let it sit for a few minutes. Over the last two days, it doesn't matter how long I leave it sit while trying to load a page, it just doesn't work.
    Ideas?

    Welcome to the forums!
    (First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl. If you are running Snow Leopard, run Safari in 32 bit not 64 bit. Control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode)
    Do you have enough RAM? Less than 1GB can cause slowness. Is your hard drive too full? Less than 15%, or 15GB, of free space can also cause slowness.
    Adding DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:
    If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    (You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
    Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
    If your computer is part of a network: please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/bestpractices/#yournetwork and follow the advice given.
    (An explanation of why using Open DNS is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
    Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
    Wikipedia also has an interesting article about Open DNS:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDNS
    Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
    This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
    Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
    If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
    Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
    Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
    Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
    Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.

  • Safari is not loading pages correctly or even not at all. Help please!

    So my Safari is not loading pages correctly, making some have just plain text with no images, and others partially loaded with no images or no video.
    Some pages, after trying to refresh, completely refuse to load and say that Safari can't find the server. These pages work on firefox, which is also on the same computer and what I am having to use to type this currently.
    I have already reset Safari, as well as disabled extensions (which I didn't have any) and neither has fixed the issue.
    Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    Hello ddc92,

  • Safari will not load pages cache access denied

    Hi,
    I am on 10.7.5 and a proxy server.  While tying to get the server to stop asking for my password every 60 seconds and following advice on this forum, something seems to have happened and safari stopped  loading  pages.  The message regarldless of the page is:
    Cache Access Denied.
    The following error was encountered while trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.apple.com/
    Cache Access Denied.
    Sorry, you are not currently allowed to request http://www.apple.com/ from this cache until you have authenticated yourself.
    Please contact the cache administrator if you have difficulties authenticating yourself or change your default password.
    Firefox and Chrome work fine - except they still ask for my password at regular intervals.
    I managed to transfer my bookmarks to firefox and am just wondering if this is worth it anymore.  DO I really need safari?  You cannot even re-install it!  You have to do the whole operating system.  Or should I migrate to Mavericks and a new upgraded safari?   I am fed up of trying endless work arounds that simply do not work for me.  Emptying caches, disabling extensions, dumping prefs etc
    Any help greatly appreciated!

    Re trying to get the proxy server to stop asking me for the password, all the steps you recommended which I no longer remember.  Something about making sure the proxy settings were in the keychain and open to all applications, then coy to the system keychain.  Repair permissions.  Tons.  Oh and in terminal the following:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.UserNotificationCenter.plist
    which I think had a major negative impact but I do not know how to reverse it.
    I guess I am not advanced to fix these things.  Have gone to an internet cafe with normal non-proxy high speed internet and am downloading mavericks now because I am fed up with trying to fix something that never fixes. Safari works here.
    Hoping that the uptodate safari will be better.

  • How can send a large file?

    I have tried to send large files that can not be received as they are too large? Rather than break up the files, are there services to which I can send the file and they have my recipient go to, to obtain the file? Thank you.

    Hi there,
    You will find the answer in this Google link ...
