Sending an Illustrator file to a computer that opens it up as a PDF?

I am on a Mac OSX. I work in Illustrator CS3. My wife sends me an illustrator file on her computer to my computer in a Drop Box and I open it up OK. But when I make a change and do a Save: a window comes up "cant save Illustration as you do not have enough access privledges"? When I send an Illustration file to myself via email, it opens up as a PDF file? I had a friend send a Illustrator file to me and it downloaded as a Illo. file but I could not select any elements in the file. It was grouped like a PDF file. Is there something wrong with my computer? thanks.

Does the filename name end in .ai or .pdf???
Either security was enabled as a .pdf file
Or the permissions on your computer are not allowing thsi to save.
Command I on the file, in the finder
In any case I recomend running applications >> utilities >> disk utility >> repair permissions.
Ever since Mac went to OSX the whole permissions of unix have been added and running this every few months can help clear things up.

The events and projects folders have to be on the top level of the drive for FCP to recognize them.

  • How to view cc files on a computer that only has photoshop cs6

I have the new version of photoshop on my computer that only allows me to save files as: photoshop cc.  However, I would like to transfer these files to view on a computer, which is at school, that only allows me to view files from photoshop cs6 or older (cs4, etc.).  I would like to work on projects on my personal computer at home and finish them on the computer at school.  So, how can see my files that are in creative cloud on a computer that only has photoshop cs6?

Need a little more information.  Never heard of a Photoshop cc file, maybe I'm missing something.  When you save a file the first time there is a drop down menu allowing you to save the photo as a number of different file extensions, i.e.. PSD, tiff, jpeg.  There is no photoshop cc.  File uploaded to your folder on the cloud retain their extensions.

    hello
Sorry I saw the answer to my last question which was...
"Is their other codes like alt+f for getting the files like one for tools or history like alt+g or alt+m Is their a list somewhere that teaches that. or are they accussed some other way". I see it is all up with the alt+f code
so my question should be is their anyway to keep the alt+f
menue up on the all the time.
    Thanks

  • Does the last updated backup in Time Machine have all my files for "standard" file copy? (i want to copy and paste files to another computer that doesn't have TM)

My personal Macbook pro died, but I did have a Time Machine backup. I have a new iMac that I would like to use as a family computer. I would like to transfer some files to the new computer (and set-up a new Time Machine backup), but archive the remainder on a non-TM drive. I was planning to:
    1. File copy my last backup folder from my old TM drive to the new computer
    2. Copy (and then delete) the files I want to archive on another HD drive
    3. Wipe clean my current TM drive
    4. Set-up TM on my new computer
Is this a good way to proceed?
Is copying the last backup folder (vs. all backup folders) enough to move my files over?
    Any better approaches appreciated!

I suggest you visit MicroCenter and go to there Apple section and ask one of there guys if they are still offering the 2 terabyte Backup For the iMac, Mine was only $100.00.
So the iMac has Time machine plus the USB 2 Terabyte Backup for less than your $130.00

  • I Trashed Some Song Files from my Computer that Had Been Previously Matched, and Now iTunes Can't Located Them. How Do I Download Them from the Cloud?

The title pretty much says it all. I deleted some songs from my hard drive that had already been added to the cloud using iTunes Match, and now, when I try to play them, I'm asked to locate the files. The songs are still available on my other devices, so I didn't delete them from the cloud. How do I reconect the songs on my computer with the files in the cloud?

Apple provides a brain-dead simple way to backup all your personal data in the form of Time Machine that keeps incremental backups going back at least several weeks, if not months (depending on the size of the backup drive). Why more people don't use it is a puzzle to me. In this day and age of person, and very important, data being digitial (sometimes exclusively) backing everything up becomes imperative. Ideally a good backup scheme should incorporate multiple backup solutions in case of very serious emergencies, but for most people, and in the case described in the OP TM is a very good solution. If a file is deleted, then found to be needed again, just go to the date and time in TM just before the file was deleted and restore it. Simple. But it doesn't work if you aren't backing up. So... backup, backup, backup. You'll thank yourself that you did when you finally need it.

  • Is there a way to recover your files from a computer that won't work anymore?

if my computer stops working, is there a way to recover the files?

I've been in the same situation once.
    Here's what I did:
Went to Staples and bought an external hard drive enclosure.
Took the hard drive out of the dead computer then installed it in the enclosure.
From there I hooked it up to a working computer via usb port then copied the files that I needed from it.
Assuming that your hard drive is not dead/toasted, then you can recover the data you need through this procedure.
    Hope that helps.

  • I can't set up icloud on my older macbook. The systems preferences has only "mobile me". I have lots of files on this computer that I want to transfer.

How do you set up icloud on an older macbook? It is full of files that I want to keep. The system preferences menu does not have icloud. It has mobile me. Do I have to upgrade the operating system to, say, mountain lion? Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I want to give the old one to my granddaughter.

You have to update to Lion at least to get basic iCloud functions, and if you want full iCloud functions, then you need to upgrade to Mountain Lion.

  • Why can't I open an InDesign file on a computer that only has Creative Suite (no cloud)?

I have one computer with the cloud. One computer with the whole suite. When I try to open a document on my computer with the suite that I had previously saved from my computer with the cloud - I receive an error message.
Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

Please post the text of the error message so someone may be able to help
You may also want to check the indesign forum to see if other people are having problems going between versions
If you start at the Forums Index http://forums.adobe.com/index.jspa
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use

  • What do I do with the music files on my computer that have been uploaded to the cloud?

I want to free up disk space on my hard drive, so can I delete my iTunes songs that are stored in the cloud?

Yes you can. But keep in mind that if you want to play your deleted songs, you will have to redownload them from the cloud. So while you can delete them off your system to free up space, you cannot directly play music from the cloud. It has to be downloaded to your computer first.

  • Older illustrator files are 72 resolution when opened in new version

    Hi,
My high resolution illustrator work wants to save as 72 pixels per inch in IllustratorCS5, is there a setting somewhere to only go to 72 if I want a save for web gif?
Also, I have a hard time getting from sign in to the forum. Is there a more reasonable route than through the confusing jargon of the corporate marketing page?
    Thanks,
    Garrett

    You are welcome, Garrett.

That is what I do; and if you tick Remember me (that would be you, not I) when you log in, you can just use the Bookmark and start looking at the threads.

  • How to open illustrator file (.ai) using Indesign and save it as XML

I know how to open a Illustrator file (.ai) in Indesign.
    It would be like :
1 ) Save your Illustrator file as AI. This Native format is most compatible with InDesign.
2 )  Go to -> InDesign, click on your document using your  Frame Rectangle tool (the one with the X through it).
3 )  Fill in the desired size (can be adjusted later).
5 ) Go to File menu > Place.
6 )  Find and select the Illustrator file in the window that opens.
7 ) Click the Open button.
Adjust size, & position of your image using the Direct Selection tool (white arrow), and the cropping with the Seclection tool (black arrow.
Now I want to save this file as XML.
    After that,  I say
    1 )  File -> Export
But this file saves as XML only shows he the root element nothing else.
Every time , this shows like
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <Root></Root>
    Nothing is there as contents.
Can anyone let me know, is it possible to store .AI file as XML.
My requirement is simple, i want to store the .ai file as XML.
Some how I am using Indesign to do so . Can any body help.
    Thanks,

Copy and paste is again seems same as 'Place the file'  , it wouldn't help again.
Copy( from Illustrator) and paste( it in Indesign) and  later saving\exporting as XML again create the same the XML file with no data . Just a XML structure,
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
    <Root />
RRegarding using the FXG and SVG file .. saving these formats to XML does not shows the Co-ordinates in XML formats.
I do I would like to have the coordinates (x,y) so that later on , if required I can change the coordinates and display the Image or Text in the file. As this is a requirement for business card.

  • I need to get some video files onto my iphone from a computer that does not have my itunes library on it

Currently I am away from home, and using a computer that does not have my main itunes library on it. I do, however, have some video files on this computer that I would like to place onto my phone for the drive home tomorrow. Unfortunately,  It seems there is no way to do this without completely wiping my iPhone and replacing it with this computers empty library, as the "manage content manually" feature apparently requires me to do this. Is there any way to just add some mp4s to my iphone without erasing all of its data?.

    What kind of computer?
On a Windows PC plugging in your phone will invoke the Autoplay dialog which also gives some options
But only if iTunes is installed on the computer and is paired as a trusted device. Which the OP does not want to do.
