Sending attachments in Yahoo, Hotmail

My problem is that I cannot send attachments. I can identify the attachment I wish in my Hotmail or Yahoo mail account, however, I cannot then upload from my computer. My only result is an error screen in Safari or a frozen screen in Firefox.
This has been a problem for some time. Previous suggestions have been to restart and to trash the cache. Neither of these have worked.
Any ideas to solve this problem?

Hey thanks Jp,
I did a search and found what looks like an answer.
"Worked with an AppleCare guy for about an hour, trying everything. Finally, since it was happening with multiple browsers and multiple user accounts, he figured it was system-wide. So had me drag SystemConfiguration folder out to the desktop (it's in Preferences folder which is in Library folder in HD). Then had me restart iMac and establish a new connection to the internet...
Now able to upload, add attachments and no blank pages."
My concern is the part where it says,
''Then had me restart iMac and establish a new connection to the internet...''
I'm wary of this because I've had difficulties in the past. I live in Taiwan, my broadband is shared and located with the neighbors and my landlord is currently living in Geneva. My time and Chinese is not really up to extensive working out of difficulties.
Can anyone explain what is meant by this, 'establish a new connection to the internet' ?, before I go ahead and take the action suggested.
Thanks.

If this was NetWare I would say that it sounds like a Winsock issue...
There was something about this with the March 08 release of GW7.0.3 but
it was fixed in the 7.0.3 HP1 - which of these two are you using?

Whuch suggestions did you try? Here are two recent threads I found:

* [/questions/978924] Can't open pdf attachment in Yahoo Mail. Worked in 25.0 not 25.0.1. Still works with IE.
Did you try [/questions/977835?page=2#answer-506091] (change settings from "Full featured" to "Basic")?
Are you accessing Yahoo Mail directly from https://mail.yahoo.com/ instead of through a bookmark? Edit: I see philipp already suggested this and linked to yet another thread, [/questions/971042]

• I can't send attachments

I am supposed to be able to send attachments up to 25Mb however it does not matter how small or what format I try and use I see the file name and file size in the bar near the top of the screen but I only get a spinning thing as though it is attaching a file.
I can just leave this until it times out. There is no problem with my PC as I can send attachments from my hotmail address.
Any ideas ???????????????????

Hi.
This sounds like something locally is interferring, e.g. a security product such as anti-virus or firewall. Can you check the settings of any of those products in case they are indeed getting in the way ?

• New imac, I cannot send attachments via hotmail - Safari?

I have a new iMac G5 and I now I am unable to download (or is it upload?) any file/attachments onto my hotmail or yahoo accounts. On hotmail, I cannot access the browser button. On yahoo, the message reads: "browser does not support attachments." Both of their customer supports say that it is my Safari browser and that it must be optimized. I do not know how to do this and I cannot get apple support to respond nor do I see it in manual. Please help!
Also, I have tredi sendign photos via four of the big image sharing sites (webshots, snapfish, etc. ) and cannot; is this also because of a problem with my mac - incompatiblity? No error message son those sites but no progress either.

I had the same problem and here is how I fixed it.
I had traveled out of town (away from my ISP) and just now found out that when I travel away from my ISP I need to do the following:
Go to mail preferences, click on accounts, go to outgoing mail service and click on that and edit the smtp server and click on the advanced tab. Click on use custom port and put in 587. Under authentication click on password. Now this should work the mail sending when you are away from your area (mine is roadrunner).
Now, if you are home, you should do the above, but in the custom port put 25 and under authentication click on none.
This fixed my problem. Hope it helps you.

The file format used by the iOS versions of the iWork apps can only be read by the new iWork apps on your Mac - i.e. Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. Those versions for the Mac require Mavericks, OS X 10.9. The "too old" error on a Mac comes if you are trying to open an iWork '08 or earlier file in the newest apps. If you do have the newest apps you can open the files from your iPad.
If you can't or don't want to upgrade to Mavericks & the newest iWork apps your best option would be to export/share the files from the iPad to a type an older version of iWork can read such as Word, text, Excel, etc.
Or contact AppleCare. They made this mess, let them fix it.

• Why won't Firefox on Mac using Hotmail access or send Attachments?

My OS X Mac in Hotmail is not able to access files to send Attachments using Firefox.
I can access and send file Attachments using Firefox in Gmail and other email services, and I can use Hotmail and send Attachments with Safari as my browser.
But when I'm emailing in Hotmail with Firefox, and click on Attachments, nothing happens.
JustAnswers MacMedic had me install msn Silverlight to try to clear this up, but it didn't.

Hotmail has been having a few hiccups lately I'm afraid.
If you don't see any emails when you log in, or nothing appears after some time, click in the middle of the grey bar on the left which has the word "'''Inbox'''" in it. This usually causes them to magically appear for some strange reason.
I've read on on a few blogs that Microsoft is working on the problem, but don't hold your breath.

If this suggestion resolves the problem for you, please click the '''Solved it''' button next to this post after you log in into the forum. This will help others searching for a solution to the same problem.
Thanks.

• Difficulty in sending attachments

I am having problems sending attachments, it sits and whirls while displaying a message attaching file. I waited 10 minutes and abandoned it. Tried using various browsers as I wanted the message to come from a particular email address.
Eventually it is saved as a draft but trying to send the draft again results in it just spinning and nothing is sent.
Switched to hotmail which attached and sent it within seconds. (hopefully the recipient will recognise the email comes from me so sent a text message saying to check a mail from my other address. I did not particularly want the recipient to have my hotmail address but had little choice.
I have since tried again by sending it to one of my other BT/Yahoo email addresses with no better success, it was still whirling after one hour.
This was using web mail, I have used a mail server which is actually less helpful as it seems to have sent the message but does not.
Does anyone have any ideas???

I know you have said you have tried various browsers but have you tried it with a "clean" browser with no add ons or ad blockers etc and with the the email in both the "normal" and "basic" view to try and establish if the problem is browser related.

• Help!! Can't send attachments (but can receive them)

Hi everyone,
I just bought my macbook a few months ago. Email was working fine all along but recently (for the past 2 weeks) have been having problems sending emails with attachments (word documents with small file sizes) on all of my web mails including Gmail, Yahoo! mail and Hotmail. I've tried using different browsers too, including Firefox and Safari, and even different networks, at home and at wireless hotspots in cafes and such. Nothing works!!! It's strange because I can receive and retrieve emails with attachments, and can even send emails as long as there aren't any attachments. I can send attachments, but only through Adium (chat application, like Messenger).
But just now, i tried using my sister's PC using the network at home and was able to send attachments(from her gmail account and mine)! (She uses Firefox)
I've therefore come to a conclusion that the problem is with my mac...
I am reallly frustrated. Can anyone please please help? :(((

Try removing your e-mail. I haven't set up AOL on iPhone in a while, but it is an IMAP account. Authentication may be the issue. Go into Settings<Mail<AOL<Advanced<SSL On/Off. Use Password authentication, and/or port 143.

• Mail app won't send attachments

A few days ago my macbook pro stopped sending email with attached files, and so did my wife's macbook (both running snow leopard at the start of the problem). Regular mail is sent but both sending an receiving is painstakingly slow. Progress bar appears but near the end the transfer rate slows to reach zero and stays there forever.
Webmail access to my account won't let me send attachments either.
Problem happens with yahoo plus, hotmail and workplace mail servers. Also from home (through broadband telephone access connected to an airport extreme base station) or from wifi access at work, at work downloading messages is fast though. Doesn't happen when sending through my ipad2.
I have reset the broadband modem and base station, rebuilt permissions in both computers, changed MTU settings and upraded my macbook pro to lion with no success.
Any ideas?

I don't think so because I used to send 2MB or 3 MB files with no problem and now it won't let me send a 60K word document. It also happened out of the blue, no system updates or preference tweaking whatsoever.

cannot receive or send email from my hotmail account, refuses to verify server. I have changed my password, deleted the account numerous times, any solutions? all on ios 6. it was working up until a few days ago and now refuses to load on both my ipad 2 and iphone 4S
in the process deleted all my contact, very annoying.
all help is much appreciated.
interesting that my gmail account does work perfectly.

this may or may not help - but give it a try. On a forum some were reporting that talk21 is now under the yahoo umbrella. below are the steps this use listed. (This was an android forum, but the email settings should be the same. In short it looks like their server names have changed. An existing account may have simply been forwarded - but if you are reinstalling, it may want a clean install to the right servers.) Pay particular attention to the server names and port settings. (this thread was started based on a discussion of Imap vs pop - you are already an Imap person - so ignore that part)
See if this helps.
why settle for pop3, when IMAP works with talk21 and not only does mail get pushed out faster with IMAP, but when you click refresh it will be received faster than pop3. The other advantage is subfolders are also supported with IMAP but cant be seen with POP3. This mail feature works with my android eclair & hero phone and the settings are exactly the same for win mobiles also (not tested). The mail setting up roadmap is the same from what i can remember once in the mail feature for win mobi.
This is what you need to do to setup Talk21 email with IMAP.
Incoming server settings
IMAP server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 143
Security type - none
Outgoing Server settings
SMTP server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 25
Security type - none Also important note - Enable 'require sign-in'
and enter your talk21 username and password The End...works a treat for me p.s. Its only taken me 3 years to work it out with win mobile and recently with android. Finally got it to work...hope this helps all the talk21 users out there. if there are any other similar posts out there with no answer...dont forget to mention my name when passing this post around.
