Sending color bars with tone but no tone in STP

Sending a test sequence from FCP to STP that has a few seconds of color bars with tone. When viewed in STP I see the bars but no tone shows in the timeline. All other audio from video or music is fine. Practicing before I conform a major edit and wondering why tone isn't there. Afraid something else could show up missing when I work on my main sequence. No tone audio also in STP when I send a FCP sequence with bars and tone only in timeline. All maintenance (repair permissions, zap PRAM, safe boot) have been done. Suggestions? Thanks!

Because tone on bars provides a reference level for the audio in your movie.
Making line-up audio tone inaccessible in Soundtrack prevents the levels from being changed or inadvertently having a filter added which would invalidate that reference.
Let's say you mistakenly raised the tone level by 3dB and didn't notice. When you deliver the master to a broadcaster or other facility, they correct the level based on what it says on the recording report. The audio in your movie is now too low. Even worse, they might just reject your submission outright.
It's quite clever when you think about it...

Color Bars and tone in FCP X?

Just downloaded FC"P" X and having a look around I cant find Color Bars or Tone anywhere...?
Did a quick search on the help... but couldn't find anything.
Surely I must be missing something here - they must be available right!!?
I know I could output some from my deck or earlier version of FCP but thats not the point really is it. What possible reason on God's green earth could there be for omitting something so simple. Sorry but most del specs (even for digital tapeless) require bars and tone.
Can someone point me in the right direction - they must be in here somewhere.

If I were to use FC X for a delivery then that would be the way to go I suppose.
Or generate b+t on the deck and ingest to the computer and then import to fcp.
Dont think I'll be using FC X for anything in the short term though. Just playing around. See where it goes.
So many odd decisions - why get rid of a perfectly good, simple feature like "make freeze frame" - I know you can do it using the retime tool now but its a round about way of doing things.
Sorry if sounded rude - there are so many crazy Apple fan boys willing to jump on people here at the slightest hint of criticism :-)

IPhone 4S GSM full bar with 3G but not working!

Hello everyone.
Here is an issue I can't beat.
iPhone 4S, not locked to carrier. Suddenly I noticed that may people start to complain to me about my phone is switch off. But same time phone is on and has full GSM bar with 3G. Once I make an experiment, when my friend Skype me about my phone is off i tried to make a call, but call is won't connect, i even can't hear a beeps. I tried to reboot the phone and in a few hours story repeats. Then I tried to resent network settings. Won't help. I tryed to restore my iPhone with iTunes with latest firmware. Not luck. Last thing I did is replaced my SIM card with my carrier. No luck. I saw on internet, that there are a lot of people having same issue with no luck of fixing it. My phone is on warranty, but or local dialer won't replace it, because it's bug not consistently seen. Any suggestions?

Contact the carrier to rule out network/account issues.
Beyond that, basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). If all of this has been tried and does not resolve the issue then the device has a hardware issue and will need to be replaced.
It is up to Apple or the Authorized Agent in your country to determine what qualifies for hardware replacement.

Why can't I send a text with imessenger but I can send a picture

I have upgraded to ios5 on my ipad2 and I cannot send a message through imessenger but I can send a picture. The send button is not lit up when I type a message.

Care to elaborate? I don't want to have to type each name individually. I would like to select the group and have the message sent to everyone in that group. As far as I can tell, this is not currently an option on iPhone. I don't understand why.
To clarify, I understand that I can send a message to a group of people. I want to be able to select a pre-created group from my contacts and send a message to everyone in that group.

I send e-mail with attachments but they dont show in folder

I am sending e-mails using MacMail and if I send one with an attachment it doesn't show in the sent folder, although the e-mail has been sent and received. Can anyone help me or tell me why ?

Is this a POP or IMAP type account? If the latter, what are your selections in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors regarding Sent messages?
Are you reporting that you can send, from within the Mail app, a message without attachment and it will be archived in the Sent mailbox, but not if it has an attachment?

I suddenly have 2 people i never met and don't know showing up as 'shared' on my computer. this may have happened when i visited the genius bar with wifi but i can't seem to delete these 2 strangers.

I visited the genius bar at my mac store two weeks ago and now I notice two people I don't know are showing up as SHARED on my computer. This is really disturbing to me as I don't know if these people have access to my computer. Could this have happened because of the WIFI at the computer store? There are so many people there at once could it be this accidentally happened? AND HOW DO I GET RID OF THESE SHARED PEOPLE? I've tried to find a way to delete them but I can't find anything that allows that. Also can't 'drag' them to the trash. PLEASE HELP. Thanks.

They don't have any access to your computer. They were picked up on your Wi-Fi. If they are not currently being detected, then hold down the COMMAND key and drag the entries out of the sidebar.

Some emails I send are arriving with attachments but with no text in the body of the message. In the sent box my emails look OK. So it took me a while to know this was happening.

I have an Apple Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 with a 2.7 GHZ Intel Core 15 Processor. 8GB Memory.
Just discovered that some emails I have sent with attachments have arrived with the attachments OK but my message has disappeared from the email. In the Sent box, the email looks OK with message intact. Has anyone else experienced this? No idea what to do.

Is just the body message field blank?
What app is the recipient using?
Can they try another pp?
Is there anything strange in the body? Like special characters?

The font bar with Underline, but not bold or italic.

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, the Mail messages I write will not bold or italic. Apple Store has re loaded all software but the problem still exists.

You're selecting (or highlighting) the copy you want bolder or italicize first, and then what happens when you click bold or italic?

All the discussion communities I could find seem to tell me how to do it in FCP7. And when I download versions from the internet, they play incorrectly-soft and warbly.

Sure. You should be all set. This is what I sent over:
The 1 kHz Sine waves folder has three audio files:
1K mono
1K stereo
1K mono (short)
The tones were generated at -12 dBFS. You can use the “short” tone to bleep stuff out, if necessary. Remember that you may need to adjust it’s level.
The Color Bars with Tones folder has two video files:
178 Bars and Tone. That’s your 1980x1080 HD version. The tone is embedded, and is also 1K @ -12 dBFS
235 Bars and Tone . That’s your “Cinemascope” version. Resolution is 1920x816, tone embedded, same specs.
Keep in mind you can re-scale the video files. In other words, if you need 1280x720 (720p), just resize the 1080p movie and you should be good to go.

I put the color bar and tone in and can hear it in the viewer but not in the timeline. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Make sure you have at least one audio channel active on the timeline before you drag it over.

Using Bars and Tone When Importing From Cards?

I edited video for decades, and for years on an Avid, and quit before we started recording onto cards and entirely digital material. I'm used to importing, let's say Digibeta tape, and using the color bars and tone to set-up the picture and audio using the bars and tone the cameraman recorded before shooting. I've been asked to work on some projects shot on cards, not analog or digital tape, and many video editors stare at me when I mention setting up using bars and tone as if that is not necessary any more.
Every camera is going to lay down video with slightly different color and exposure characteristics and I would imagine that footage would need to be adjusted using color bars. Otherwise, wouldn't the colors and exposure from different cameras be inconsistent when cut together?
I understand that waveform monitors are still used to make sure shots are "broadcast legal" if the show is going to be broadcast, but are the waveform monitor and vectorscope not used when importing footage any more? I know that color hue is used by shifting the phase, which doesn't exist on digital, but there still must be a need to tweak the color coming from different cards and cameras. Please help me out on this...

I'm the OP and I'd like to get back to my original inquiry, and thank you all for reminding me that I'm not alone in trying getting blank stares when I ask for bars and tone at the top of the footage. But I'd really like to know how one sets up FCP to run the footage from the digital tape or chip and tweak the video signal before importing, so that all the footage I capture comes in with the video properly set.
For example, today I shot with some fellows rather new to video, but they put down bars and tone. When we went to import the footage (some from tape, some from chip) we couldn't figure out how to run the incoming signal through FCP, see it on the waveform and vectorscope, and access the controls to tweak the exposure and color BEFORE importing a single frame. Is that possible in FCP, would you please tell me how to do it?
We could tweak footage after we imported it into FCP, but when we wanted to tweak it before importing, when we tried to capture we got a dialog box that basically said "Capture" or "Cancel". Is there a Preference or setting to choose so that we can do what I want prior to importing, or am I stuck tweaking each shot after I've imported all the footage?

Recording color bars to a CF card

want to record color bars from Premier to a CF card to play back from Canon 5d iii. i choose Export and then H.264 format, but it won't play back from the card,on the camera.

haven't tried anything like that...but if I did try it , for my nikon d800 ( uses mov h264 for video , same as your canon I think ), I would export as mov and use codec of h264. should be able to play the mov file in your camera.
if not, can you just use a still image for your purpose ? you trying to compare color bars with some kinda color patches or something when shooting ? or trying to somehow deal with white balance ??? who knows.. anyway, you can save a frame of the color bars as a jpg or tiff or whatever your camera can see...

No startup...then color bars

When I press the power button on my ibook the screen has what looks like a gray cloud float across it for a brief second then the fans starts whirring (loudly) and the screen converts to color bars with black, white, green and varying colors and sizes. I've looked around these discussion and found some similiar symptoms and I what Apple support suggests to fix it, but I've had no luck (even with the PMU reset, although I'm not sure it was successful). This started happening just this weekend and the first time it happened I waited a few minutes, was unable to shut it off, and when I started up it was fine. But once I turned it on yesterday it did it over again and has done it every time since. Before I discovered how to do the PMU reset, I was forced to wait for the color bar screen to disappear, which it would do after 4-5 minutes and then I could shut it off again. But doing the PMU reset shuts it off and on at any point.
Anyone have a clue what this is about? It's not a power thing (I checked the battery, it's connection, plus the screen and fan work). I haven't tried to startup from the disk, but I'm not sure that's what it is. I also put a third party ram upgrade in more than a year ago. The ibook itself is 2 1/2 years old, so I understand some issues may arise, but I hope this isn't irreparable.

My iBook did the same thing. It randomly died on me and started doing that. Try turning it off and squeezing to the left of the track pad when you hit the power button. If that allows it to boot, welcome to the club. Chances are good the gpu is becoming unsoldered from the logic board. This causes the machine to quickly become worthless.
You can try calling apple, they'll likely tell you the cost of replacing a logic board starts at $700. Some places online will do it for ~$450, but you will get a logic board with a 6 month warranty, and the way G4 logic boards are dieing, I personally wasn't willing to throw that much money at the problem for a laptop that might be dead again way too soon.
Another option is to google for the ibook g4 clamp method to get it to boot. Hopefully you have better luck than I did with my 18 month old iBook.
Now i've learned my lesson, and I purchased applecare with my MacBook.
