I currently have approximately 4 email accounts being forwarded to my gmail account. This is the account I use through Mail. Is it possible to send mail out that is, say from my school email account and still have it say that it is from my school email account instead of from the gmail account? I really need this feature. if you send an email from your school account it will say that it's from your school account. if you want to send an email from gmail but have it say that it's from your school account, this is impossible. The best you can do is include a reply-to field so that if someone replies to it it will go to your school address.

• After I downloaded Yosemite I can no longer send mail with my google account only receive mail

I installed Yosemite and I wish I had waited , I can now receive mail on my google account but can't send
I just get the drop down box with Google off line try another server
My laptop works fine but that still has maverick on it any help would be appreciated.
I have already deleted all my mail accounts and rebooted but no luck after reinstalling mail as per laptop installation

Well, it happened again.
This morning I was sending out a bunch of emails and around the 10th one they started kicking back.
This time I did not fool with any of the settings on my computer.
I turned off both the modem and router. Started them back up and the problem still exists.
The last time this happend, about a week ago, it started working again within an hour.
This problem ony crops up when I am sending many emails at the same time
Throughout the rest of the week it works fine.
This time I by-passed the router and the mail will go out.
So it looks like someting is going on with the router.
Whenver I hook the router back up, outgoing mail will not work.
It says it cannot send mail using my server.
I double checked all of my mail setings and nothing has changed
I also did a hard rest on the router, but it did not help.
Again this problem is with 2 computers.
I have an early version of Airport Extreme Model A1143.
It's around 5 years old.
Whenever I call my ISP they claim everything checks out on their end and they don't offer any help.
I am sure if I leave the router unplugged for a day or so, it will start working again.
Is there any way a router can break down and allow incoming mail and internet but not outgoing mail?
I am am at wits end with this problem.
I would be willing to go out and get the latest Airport Extreme if I knew for sure it would cure this problem.

• Cant send mail with my yahoo account?

When I try to send a message it says try again with selected server I say it can try agin with selected server. Then the same message error keeps on poping up.

Not much to go on there...
For one, did this work in the past but has now stopped working? or did it never work?
For two, the error message usually gives a better idea of why the message couldn't be sent... what else does it say?
Third.. what server are you trying to use? Are you trying to send via Yahoo's servers? and have you verified that your ISP isn't blocking? (some ISPs require you to send all mail through their mail servers to avoid spambot problems on their network - have you tried sending the mail through your ISP's mail server?)
Is it just Yahoo mail that's failing? or all mail?

• Can't send mail with POP gmail account

Suddenly, when I try to send mail I get this pop-up message:
Enter Password for Account
"smtp.gmail.com:kpellingson"
Please enter the password for user "kpellingson" on SMTP server "smtp.gmail.com"
If I enter my password, I get the same window, over and over.
If I go to gmail's web based mail, my password is accepted and I can send mail, so I know I'm not entering it wrong.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Karen

OK,
So I'm not crazy.
I agree, I didn't need the "@gmail.com" before. However, when I added it, gmail would accept my password and I could send mail again.
Thinking about this, when I added the "@gmail.com", I had to save the SMTP server settings, hmm..., maybe that old file was corrupted and the new one that I added wasn't... That may be what fixed the problem...just speculation.
Anyway, it's working for me now...Have you tried adding the "@gmail" bit and saving a new SMTP setting? Maybe that will work for you, too.
Good Luck,
Karen

• Cannot send email from Mail through .mac account

I have recently opened a .mac account and started using the email service. It works fine online however I am having difficulty sending messages through the Mail application in Tiger.
Whenever I attempt to send a message, a dialog box appears saying "Cannot send message using the server smtp.mac.com".
I have tried looking at the setting in preferences. I have deleted and .mac a/c setting in Mail and re-set them up, all the problem persists.
Please help!

Hello David.
Who is your ISP used for connecting to the internet and are you accessing an email account snd SMTP server in Mail provided by your ISP?
If so, can you send messages with the email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP?
Most, if not all ISPs now block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP used for connecting to the internet) on Port 25 which is the standard port used for SMTP servers. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only (such as the .Mac SMTP server) that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
These restrictions are part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
Test if this resolves the problem.
If not and you are accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail that is provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account which is invisible to all recipients.

• Is there an email account that will allow me to use a different from address with a POP account

Need to be able to delete emails (I have an Optonline address) from iphone and ipad during the day, while retaining them on Mac Book Pro to view and file into folders in the evening.
Seemed like I could have my optonline emails forwarded to a Gmail account and just set up the Mac's mail to use my optonline account, while the iPad and iPhone used my Gmail account. That worked, except for one issue - when I sent mail from the iPad or iPhone it would use my Gmail address and then people who used "reply" would have their replies sent back to my Gmail account. I wanted to continue to use my optonline address since I have had this address for many, many years. I saw that Gmail allows you to "send using a different from address", however because optonline is a POP account, they do not support the settings in Gmail and therefore I cannot get my optonline address to be verified by Gmail, meaning my emails continued to be sent from my Gmail address on my iPhone.
I even tried setting up the Gmail account manually (using "Other" in the ipone settings) and putting in a comma with my optonline address in the address field, but still no success.
Next, thought I'd try Yahoo mail - same thing - only sends mail with my Yahoo account.
Then looked into iCloud since I use that for syncing Contacts and Calendars on all 3 devices - same thing - I can only send email using the @me.com address.
Does anyone know of any other mail account that will work with my POP Optonline email address? After 10+ years with this email address, having to announce to my world that I am changing my address (either to Gmail, Yahoo, or the iCloud's @me.com address) is something I really don't want to do.
However, leaving just my optonline account on all 3 devices means I am constantly deleting the same emails on 3 devices everyday, which is also just not an effective use of my time.
Please help!

• TS3899 Intermittent issue with sending emails from a blueyonder.co.uk email address.

Hi can anyone help? My iphone 4 has recently developed an intermittent issue sending emails from my 'blueyonder.co.uk email account. The emails get delivered to my outbox with a message 'cannot send mail, recipient was rejected by the server' When the emails are in my outbox there is no means to delete them there the only way to remove them is to remove the full email account and reset it up again.
I have tested the send functionality with my Gmail account and this seems to work ok!
I have spoken to Virgin Media my email provider and they have walked me through removing the account and resetting it up again but to no avail. They have suggested I contact Apple as there appears to be something wrong with the email application on my phone for this particular email account.
All incoming emails are being received as normal

• Syncing with POP3 email accounts

I'm just about at my wit's end, having spent the last few days trying to get MobileMe to do what Apple claims it can do. It can't.
That said, I now must figure out how to get my iPhone to directly access and sync with a couple of POP3 email account I have. I have tried going to settings, choosing "other", and adding in the correct info. It says that it "can't make the connection with SSL" and would I like to try without that, but when I say "OK", that doesn't work either.
Why is this so difficult? I replaced a Treo with this iPhone and am now having second thoughts. I mean, it can't access a POP3 account? What 90% of the world uses? I thought the iPhone was ready for "real" usage and not just a kid's phone. Frustrating. I just want to read my email... this should be "PDA 101"
OK, enough raving. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

Regarding email, what I was trying to do was have access to my already existing email, not the me.com email. He told me that I’d be able to sync my existing emails with MobileMe... but you can't, at least as far as I can tell.
A MM account can check the incoming mail server for a POP account - this option is available at the MM website. Messages received from a POP account will be downloaded to the Inbox mailbox for your MM account. The downside is when replying to or forwarding a message received from a POP account. The reply or forward will be sent from your MM account.
The idea is to use the MM email account as your email account. I've had a .Mac account for some time which was converted to a MM account. I moved quite a bit between 2000 and 2004. At the time, I was using the email account provided by my ISP. Every time I moved, I had to change my email address, and most ISPs don't provide or support an authenticated SMTP server. I started using a PowerBook as my primary computer in 2000 and if I wasn't connected to the internet via my ISP, I was unable to send messages with the email account provided by my ISP. I decided to start using my .Mac account as my primary email account which solved a number of problems for me. When moving, I didn't have to change my email address and since .Mac has an authenticated SMTP server, I was able to send messages with my .Mac account regardless the ISP used for my internet connection.
MM continues this for me with my PowerBook and with my iPhone. I can send messages with my MM account regardless the ISP used for my internet connection - with the Mail.app on my Mac, with the iPhone's Mail client, or with Outlook or OE on a Windows PC.
Meanwhile, I’ve set up these two email accounts and both can receive email but neither can send, although my me.com address will send & receive.
Because a MM account has an authenticated SMTP server, and your POP accounts probably don't. Who is the email account provider for these POP accounts?
I spent about 1/2 hour this afternoon with Apple tech support who couldn't figure that out and told me I need to do a complete factory reset on my iPhone, which will bring it back to original factory specs, causing me to loose all downloaded programs, information, etc., although I could back it up first with iTunes.
If you are syncing contact information and calendar events over the air with your MM account and your contact information and calendar events are available at the MM "cloud", this data will not be lost when doing a restore with iTunes. Other than that in regards to contact information and calendar events, the iPhone is designed to be synced with the supported application on your computer. If you aren't syncing contact information and calendar events over the air with your MM account, you should be syncing this data with the supported application on your computer and if so, this data remains on your computer and will not be lost when doing a restore with iTunes.
All downloaded applications from the app store should also be available in your iTunes library, which won't be lost when doing a restore.
iTunes creates and maintains a backup of your iPhone for all data on your iPhone not included with the sync process such as; most settings, SMS messages, notes, recent calls, call favorites, data stored on your iPhone by 3rd party applications, and photos captured by your iPhone - but I wouldn't depend on this one. Photos captured by your iPhone should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
Your iPhone's backup is updated if needed as the very first step during the sync process. Before restoring, the first step should be a sync to update your iPhone's backup if needed.
Since all data available on your iPhone is included with your iPhone's backup or should be available and remain on your computer such as your iTunes content, photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone, etc., nothing will or should be lost during the restore process.
I had a Treo before the iPhone and setting up the email on it took me about 5 minutes. The contacts and calendar sync flawlessly with Outlook, and the setup for that was probably 15 minutes.
Which application did you use to sync your Treo direct with Outlook on your computer for contact information and calendar events?
So my secondary point is that the iPhone is not really ready for corporate life yet unless you are willing to put a LOT of effort into setup, which I was.
A MobileMe account is not designed for business use - it is designed for personal use and the idea is using the MM email address and account as your primary email account/address.
I access my MM account and a business POP account with the iPhone's Mail client. Setup for both took minutes. Both accounts have an authenticated SMTP server and I've never had any problems sending with either account for over a year with my first generation iPhone, or with my iPhone 3G. This is when connected via various wi-fi networks with different ISPs and via EDGE or 3G.
If you are trying to access legacy POP accounts that don't have an authenticated SMTP server, you will have problems. I don't know what was different with your Treo in this regard, but the device has nothing to do with an ISP blocking the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP being used for the internet connection unless the SMTP server is authenticated. Most if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP unless the SMTP server is authenticated. This has nothing to do with the iPhone.

• Can't send email from .mac account on iPhone

I can no longer send from my .mac account. I get the error message on the phone "The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.mac.com" failed"".
This occurs both on edge and on WiFi. I have looked through other suggested fixes and have tried deleting the account on the phone and setting it up directly on the phone. I've also tried toggling the "sync mail account" setting in iTunes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Assuming you are using the Mail.app on your Mac, what are you using as the server port for .Mac's SMTP server?
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below for .Mac's SMTP server.
If 25, enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting and if you are transferring your .Mac account settings from your Mac to the iPhone via the iTunes sync preferences for your iPhone, re-sync to transfer this change to the iPhone.
If the account was manually entered on the iPhone and you aren't syncing the account settings from your Mac, in the SMTP server field for your .Mac account preferences on the iPhone, add 587 to the server separated by a colon.
smtp.mac.com:587
This should take care of it.
My .Mac account is my primary account and I haven't had any problems sending messages with my .Mac account on any WiFi network or EDGE with this setting.

• Sending Email outside of Home ISP WITH my Imail setup

I have Optonline at home and Mail works great receiving and sending but not when I travel. I recieve fine but not send and recognize its an smtp issue.
right now I am using a wireless comcast ISP connection (which is a sister company to Optonline) and have the same problem.
does anyone know how to reconfigure the ports or whatever to solve this. I dont want to use the browser to send because I have to do a lot of cut/pasting of pictures, addresses, etc which are all made MUCH easier through my mac mail setup on my laptop. The port is set at 25 when I tried to change the smtp to smtp.comcast.net from the mail.optonline.net setting.
Hopefully someone knows how to fix this.
thanks and hope you all are having a great holiday.
Skip

Most, if not all ISPs now block the use of SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25.
If Comcast is a sister company to Optonline, this should not be an issue but apparently it is.
Try the following.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your Optonline account preferences at the SMTP server selection (re-select the Optonline SMTP server to be used to send messages with your Optonline account) and then select the Server Settings button below.
At the Server Port:, enter 587 in place of 25 in the space provided and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
Test if this resolves the problem.
If not and since Comcast is a sister company to Optonline, contact Customer Service for Optonline and/or Comcast to determine the SMTP server and/or settings to use when connected to the internet via Comcast's network.

• Cannot send email w/mac mail using Juno and Tiger

Hello!
I have had a problem ever since I upgraded last year to Tiger. I have Juno, and ever since I upgraded from Jaguar, I cannot use the Juno software to log on. But more annoying that that (I have a work around that works just fine), I cannot send email from my mac mail. If I want to send an email or respond to an email, I have to physically log onto Juno's website and email and write and send from there. I have contacted Juno numerous times, and they tell me to reset my password, which makes no sense to me. Any Ideas?

Regarding not being able to send mail with your .Mac account and .Mac SMTP server, most if not all ISPs used for connecting to the internet block the use of SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25. At the Server Port field, enter 587 in place of 25 and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this is not successful, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account which is invisible to all recipients.

• Error Message While Trying to Send email from Mac Mail...

hello. i have been following the discussion board from some time, and finally made my first mac purchase. only 3 days old.anyways, i am trying to send mail from my .mac email account. i paid for the 1 year subscription,so i know my subscription status is still up to date. however, when trying to send an email using the Mac Mail application,i get this error..
Error
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
the connection to the server "smtp.mac.com" on port 25 timed out.
can someone help me?
my isp is: Cox
location: Virginia, USA
just incase someone needed that. oh yes,i can also receive mail, but i just can not send any emails. i was trying to send an email to a "gmail" acct, and i also attached a 2mb pic.thank you to anyone who can assist me.

This error message indicates your ISP blocks the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP) on Port 25 which is the default/common port used by SMTP servers. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only that is outside of their network (such as the .Mac SMTP server) on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
Are you also accessing an email account with the Mail.app that is provided by Cox and if so, are you able to send messages with this account?
Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this doesn't resolve it and you aren't accessing your Cox email account with the Mail.app, you need to create your Cox email account in Mail or at least add Cox's SMTP server and select/use Cox's SMTP server to send messages with your .Mac account which is invisible to all recipients.

• How do I ensure mail is sent from the correct email account? I have two set up on my iPad, and it seems to choose which one to use somewhat randomly. This has happened both when using Mail and when emailing form another app.

I have two email accounts set up on my iPad -- one I use & one I monitor for a disabled person. On several occasions, mail I have composed and sent from my email account was sent showing the other account as the sender. This has happened both from within Mail and when emailing from other apps, such as Safari, Photos, etc. Any idea what is going on and how to prevent this from happening?

Are you confirming your POP account is selected as the sending email account before the message is sent?
And regardless if the email is a new email or is replying to or forwarding an email received by the POP account and cofirming the POP acconut is selected as the sending email account, the message is sent by the Gmail account?
All message sent by the POP account are sent by the Gmail account?
If so, delete the Gmail account from your iPad and test if a message sent with your POP account which will be the only email account available with the iPad's Mail app is recieved from your POP account/address.
If not, something else is wrong or on play that has nothing to do with the iPad.
