Sending emails by Hotmail account via Mail app

Hi,
i just changed my old HTTPMail application on mail to continue to receive and send emails from my @hotmail.com account, as it was no longer functionning.
It's now configured, i receive emails correctly, but can't send any.
i configured it with the output adress smtp.live.com and checked the SSL box without specifiyng any username and pass, all that in the preferences of Mail app.
Is there any way to send email by Hotmail, or is there something in the POP/IMAP difference that i ain't gettin and make it impossible?
The "via Gmail" option wouldn't be one for me. i still wanna use hotmail.
thanks,
Phil

This could be an even simpler way to do it:

  • Can't send email from any account in Mail app

    Suddenly, a couple of days ago, Mail started refusing to send mail in my .Mac account. I changed nothing in terms of settings and the way I do stuff. Receiving has been unaffected.
    I'm at a loss to think what it could be... any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Sure your ISP provides some POP and/or IMAP accounts with access to an SMTP server as part of the service. Have you tried sending with that?
    In an attempt to fight spam, many ISPs restrict the ability to send using an outgoing (SMTP) server not owned by them, usually by blocking port 25 for all traffic outside their own network, which means you cannot send with an SMTP server not owned by them if configured to use that port number.
    Something that often works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 (or whatever alternate port number the outgoing server listens to) instead of 25 and using some form of authentication in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but two conditions must be satisfied for this change to work: (1) the ISP must not block that port as well AND (2) the outgoing server in question must listen to that port and accept a form of authentication not based on the IP address you’re connecting from.
    Independent mail service providers not tied to a particular ISP, such as .Mac and Gmail, do allow authenticated SMTP access on port 587, which is the reason changing the outgoing server port number solves the problem for them if the ISP doesn’t block that port as well:

  • HT1694 Can't send emails through Hotmail account

    This just started.  I can receive emails, but can't send emails through Hotmail account. iPhone says I need to check my settings (password).  I have correct password in settings.  Any help?

    Hello reedstrom,
    Sorry to hear you are not able to send emails from your Hotmail account.  Sending emails is a very important feature of the iPhone, and the fourth section in the following tutorial has steps for checking your Outgoing Mail Server settings.

    I hope this helps!

  • Hotmail accounts and mail app on mac

    hi guys
    why does buzzword go to my mail app on os x
    is their any way i can go to my hotmail account instead
    thanks

    Hi Andyvj.
    My guess is that you're trying to "Send email to sharing list" (see screenshot) which would cause the mail app to open.
    Instead, click on the "Share" button. It'll open up a dialog where you can enter email addresses. That way, Buzzword will send out emails to your list. When people respond to the sharing email, replies will go to the account you've registered with Buzzword. If you register your hotmail account with Buzzword, then replies will go to your Hotmail account.
    Good Luck!
    Regards,
    Vbuxi.

  • Sending emails from some accounts in Mail.

    I have IMAP accounts in Mail connected to two different hosting accounts.
    All of the accounts in Mail can receive emails but the email connect to one hosting account can't send emails from Mail.
    As its' one email account that won't send I'm assuming it's that account's SMTP settings.
    My ISP have told me that SSL needs to be deselected. If I try to deselect it it selects straight away.
    To stop this I'm using the custom port 587.
    I have Authentication set to password.
    The connection Doctor shows everything connected.
    I have read all posts about this but still can't get this to work.
    Can ANYONE offer any advice how I might get this to work.
    I've used Macs for 15 years but I'm seriously thinking about moving to PC now.

    And, you have tried this then?

  • I cannot send email in hotmail account and insert buttons dissapear after 4 seconds

    I am able to receive emails in hot mail account but cannot send.
    This has been the case for the last two days.
    Have the same problem in IE.
    Noticed insert buttons disappear when I click on new
    Same in IE

    Ended up calling my service provider to figure it out. They couldn't but again gave me all the perameters to enter into an account. I had to cancel the account on my phone and set up a new one. I had to enter the information more than once before the phone would actually save it. Lucky me, it did not lose all the emails I had stored on the phone. No help from Apple!

    There seems to be an ongoing problem with BT mail at the moment. There has been numerous posts about it. BT are in the process of changing from BTYahoo to BTMail and it would appear that all is not going well. BT are meant to be trying to sort it out so hopefully it won't take too long.

  • How can I add http (hotmail) account in Mail app?

    It doesn't give the option for http when you configure the program so I'm just wondering if it's possible to do this.

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/httpmail-plugin
    heres a plugin for mail which lets you access http mail.
    i'm fairly sure it doesnt let you send mail - but i haven't used it and so i'm not sure
    I just happened to post this link in another thread and noticed this one so thought i wouldn't waste a perfectly good clipboard item.

  • Can't email to hotmail accounts

    from my iPhone gmail account I am unable to send email to hotmail accounts. They bounce back unable to deliver. I can send to gmail & yahoo accounts but not to any hotmail from the iPhone (the accounts are rift because I can send when using my laptop)

    Check each account, including their spam filters. If you don't find it anywhere, you need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

  • Can't setup Hotmail Pop account in mail app

    New macbook
    All updates
    Gmail works in mail app fine
    hotmail account created 2007
    Problem; i can't add a hotmail account.
    It says it can't verify the user/pass. I have tried to delete and re-add but it doesn't work.
    Could any genius troubleshoot this one?
    I literally, add a new account
    user is the email
    pass is the password for the webmail version
    setup for pop
    won't go past this screen

    I'm having the same problem. I bought my first mac and the Apple Mail successfully set up my gmail account and I was able to manually set up a separate IMAP account in Apple Mail. But when Apple Mail set up my hotmail account, it told me that the user/password aren't verified and won't work. Sure enough, the hotmail account always shows as offline, and when I try to take all accounts online, I am prompted for my hotmail password, which is then rejected. I am able to access my hotmail account via Safari using the same user/password, so I know the user name and password are correct. And I checked the POP server, port and ssl settings in the non-working hotmail account that Apple Mail set up, and they are the same ones recommended by hotmail. I tried your suggestion of setting up a new user on my mac and trying to set up the hotmail account in that new user's Mail account, and I had the exact same problem. Help!

  • How to send html newsletter via Mail app

    I want crystal and clear instruction as all the ones I have found either old fashioned and not relevant or skip that interesting part.
    I have already done html page (newsletter). Now I want to transform it somehow and send via Mail app so my contacts could receive it as html newsletter. If I need to attach txt message please add it to the instruction. I need complete how to send html newsletter.

    alabanco wrote:
    thanks. Now we've got to the most interesting part and intriguing one. Why should I upload html page to the server. I do understand uploading the images to server which will be used as links in my html mail. But why and how should I store that page in my server if I have CMS post instead from which I used pictures as links. SHould I create yet another type of post in CMS that is my html newsletter? That's not cool. What is the industry standard approach for that?
    By the way Mail.app uses that baby design templates for your messages. Why don't we have an option to delete all these creepy childish templates and store solid bold corporate style templates for newsletters and send it somehow? Or will it just attach the images to the message then? If so then it is not what I want and it is really depressing.
    The industry convention/"standard" is not to use html in email. Wheteher or not your html newsletter displays as you intended is at the mercy of the recipient and their email client settings.
    If you want to preserve your html layout and styles, save your newsletter as a pdf document and attach the pdf document to your email. Or, as already suggested, use a web server to serve your html newsletter.

  • Hotmail accounts in Mail - automatically recalling email addresses

    I've managed to link two hotmail accounts to MAIL yet when i switch between inboxes in mail and start a new message, it is only picking up email addresses from one of the accounts (the first one I linked).
    If I type the start of an email address into the 'TO' area it starts to suggest email addresses from the first account - but none from the second account.
    Other than adding email addresses to the address book, is there anyway to have MAIL automatically pick up email addresses from both accounts?
    Many thanks, S

    Mail will only autocomplete an address that you've previously sent email to; it can't find addresses from Hotmail. So unless you've used those addresses you're wanting to see in that particular account, they won't show up, no matter which account you use.
    You can add them to Address Book, or you can just start sending email to all of them and then they'll be in the Previous Recipients list the next time.

    public void SendMail()
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put("mail.smtp.user", username);
    props.put("mail.smtp.host", host);
    props.put("mail.smtp.port", port);
    props.put("mail.smtp.starttls.enable","true");
    props.put("mail.smtp.auth", "true");
    props.put("mail.smtp.socketFactory.port", port);
    try{
         Authenticator auth = new SMTPAuthenticator(username,password);
    Session session = Session.getInstance(props, auth);
    MimeMessage msg = new MimeMessage(session);
    msg.setText(text);
    msg.setSubject(subject);
    msg.setFrom(new InternetAddress(senderEmail));
    msg.addRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO, new InternetAddress(receiver));
    Transport.send(msg);
    }catch(Exception ex) {
         System.out.println("Error Sending:");
    System.out.println(ex.getMessage().toString());
    and this the SMTPAuthenticator Class which you will need too.
    class SMTPAuthenticator extends javax.mail.Authenticator {
         private String fUser;
         private String fPassword;
         public SMTPAuthenticator(String user, String password) {
         fUser = user;
         fPassword = password;
         public PasswordAuthentication getPasswordAuthentication() {
         return new PasswordAuthentication(fUser, fPassword);
         }

  • How do I fix Mail in Snow Leopard where I cannot send emails from my account to another account I've set up in Mail, but the reverse works fine?

    I have a problem with Mail in Snow Leopard in that I cannot set up two email accounts for myself and my wife with the same ISP and have them operate properly.  I've set up the accounts in strict accordance with my ISP's instructions for setting up email accounts on Mac Mail but I cannot send an email from my account to my wife's without a drop-down message appearing that Mail 'cannot send the email from this server.  Please edit the server list'.  No amount of tweaking appears to work.  Applecare consultants have so far been unable to get it to work and a recent visit to the local Genius Bar in the Apple Store was fruitless also.  My ISP's help line was unable to solve the problem even with a supervisor level consultant.  The ISP concluded it was some kind of 'bug' in Mail.
    I could send emails from my wife's account to mine, but not vice versa; I could send emails to other addresees without any problem and I can send emails from my account to my wife's using the ISP's webmail.
    Does anyone please have a solution to my problem?  At the moment we're operating one account (mine) on my Macbook and my wife's is set up on her iPad2.  As we prefer to use the Macbook for storage and (using Time Machine) for back-up of our data, the two accounts on separate machines is a nuisance.
    Another factor is that I prefer to control when I download emails and set my preferences accordingly.  One of the so-called 'fixes' that were tried wound up downloading emails regardless of settings, even after removing my wife's account; the matter was remedied only after I had removed all accounts form Mail and started afresh from scratch.

    You'll have to pardon my ignorance of some  computer terminology; I'm a retired manager and not a computer technician, hence my muddling up of client and server terminology.
    Re your comment about Port 339: I did qualify this with (?).  As I wrote, it all happened at lightining speed and the guy at the Genius Bar didn't bother explaining what he was doing.  Port designation contained 3s and 9s to the best of my recollection.
    That said, you seem to be spot on re setting up a 'dummy' client in Mail.  I set it up as you suggested and I can send to and receive from this client without a problem.  You appear to have identified the solution, notwithstanding the claims of the ISP's 'experts'.
    The next problem I have now is sorting out my wife's mailbox that is so troublesome whenever I set it up on Mail.
    All the other set-up advice to date yielded a similar result; inability to send from my account to her inbox.  Perhaps deleting her details from the account altogether and setting them up again from scratch may be the solution and I shall try that in due course.  The impediment that I have with this at the moment is that my ISP admits that it has 'a technical problem with its email servers' and some of its related web pages that prevent my doing this myself.  I will have to go through the telephone 'help' line and ask the technician to set it up at their end on my instructions.  This has some disadvantages in that I have to divulge the password to the account to the operator rather than keeping it anonymous by doing it on-line.   You may have solved the problem, but until I can successfully sort out a working mailbox for my wife i cannot definitively say so.
    Many thanks for your perseverance.  You've made more sense than anyone else so far and that deserves some points, surely?
