Hi. Welcome to the forums.
I'm afraid that the answer is pretty much one of your settings, or even possibly because you may not be on your internet connection via wifi.
What errors are you getting ?
Make sure that you are connected to the internet via your BTinternet connection rather than maybe any 3g/4g connection.
But the main thing is to check those settings. What is the outgoing email server? What is the port setting? What is the SSL/TLS setting. And make sure smtp authentication is set on.

Can't seem to send email from iPad Air.
Transferred from iPad to iPad Air Also upgraded to new iPhone. No prelims with email with iPhone. Receive but can't send email from iPad Air. Says server rejected email. Same email sent fine from phone. Suggestions? Settings are the same on both devices.
Found my own answer. Although I carried over settings from former iPad, the outgoing server was not set up completely.

Trouble sending email from iPad and iPhone

If this happened in the past hour or so with dot-mac or dot-me mail, the iCloud servers were having a problem.

Cannot send email from ipad?
I can receive, but cannot send emails from my iPad. Always get message that I have wrong user name or password.
Then make sure that the settings are correct in your email account.
Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional. -
Cannot send email from iPad & iPhone with Virgin Media
I cannot send emails from my iPad and iPhone. I have a virginmedia.com address and I can receive but just cannot send. A message keeps saying the smpt settings are wrong. However, I have followed the tutorial on Virgin Media web site (this is how I managed to start receiving emails on my devices) but still not sending. I have looked at the settings in my MacBook Pro and all seem to be correct. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? I had a similar problem when I loaded Microsoft Office 365 for Mac; I had to end up calling Virgin Media (useless) and then Microsoft (useful). Anyhow I have looked at the settings on the Mac and they all seem to correspond with the ipad and iphone but still cannot send emails. V V Frustrated.
Thanks for reading. Then make sure that the settings are correct in your email account.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Why can't I send Emails from iPad apps?
When I am using iBooks, or Evernote, or Hootsuite, or just about any application on my iPad that allows me to Email items from within the application, the following happens when I try to send an Email:
1) I click the share button.
2) Choose Emaill
3) Write the Email.
4) Click Send
5) Hear swoosh sound and it appears the Email is sent.
However, the Email is never actually sent. I've tested this mutiple times to various Email addresses and it just isn't sending the Email. The only exception is when I send Emails from within the Gmail app, in which case they send fine.
After discovering this I took our my iPhone 5 and tried to do the same from there with the same applications. I was able to send Emails from within the iPhone applications just fine so this problem is specific to my iPad.
I checked my mail settings and didn't see anything out of order. As I said, I can successfully send Email from the iPad using the Gmail app or just sending it from within a Chrome window.
Thoughts?I used to be able to send e-mail from within apps on my iPad. Then all of a sudden, I was unable to do it. I changed none of my settings, and my regular e-mail works just fine. One day I could e-mail from within apps, and then next I could not.
When I hit the share button within an app, I then select the e-mail button. An e-mail message opens for composition. It has the subject line filled in, but that's all. It will not allow me to enter the address and it contains no message or link. It's just dead. Sometimes I wait for a while to see if anything changes, but it doesn't.

I don't know if you saw this discussion from the box on the right - More Like This - or it would apply if you by some chance have a 3G AT&T iPad - but I thought I would pass it along to you just in case.

Sending email from ipad.
I can see, read and file away my emails but cannot send emails from my pad. The screen keeps telling me that it cannot connect to the server. I'm sure I'm doing something silly, but since I changed my email password on my computer, my ipad has not responded to sending email. Please can anyone help?
Have you checked your incoming and outgoing settings to be sure it is correct? What email client do you use?
Are you using IMAP or a Pop setting for incoming? -
