Sending external video to two displays simultaneously

I'm trying to split the DVI-I output on a Macbook Pro to two devices - a Dell display (DVI) and an LCD TV (VGA). I've got an appropriate video splitter (http://www.xpcgear.com/dviisplitter.html) but am finding that OS X is too smart for it's own good - it autodetects one of the displays but ignores the other!
Is there any way to force OS X to simply output the video signal w/o autodetecting the display type?

You are posting in the Late 2008/2009 MBP forum - you may want to report this in the Original MBP Display forum, since the new (unibody) MBPs don't have a DVI output (and their output is digital only).

  • Send one message to two receivers simultanously

    Hi,gurus:
I wanna know how can we send one message to two receivers simultanously.
Our scenario is file to file, and we add two receivers in receiver determinations, and leave the conditions empty.
But it seems the message was only sent to one receivers.
    Any ideas?

    Hi...
You should be able to send same file to two different receivers. For that you need to create :
    1. Two communication channels for two receivers
    2. Add two receivers in the Receiver Determination ( under Configure Receivers)
    3. Two interface determination for two receivers
    4. Two receiver Agreements having two different receiver CC.
    5. Only one sender agreement.
If you have created all the above objects, you should be able to send a file to two receivers.
    Thanks,
    Pooja

  • Splitting video over two displays - can it be done?

i am doing some video work for a musical at our high school. i will have video projected on a back canvas, but to get better quality of the image (since its so big) is there any way to hook up two projectors so they combine and act as one giant widescreen? i know i can do dual display mode, but i need a way to put a widescreen video between two projectors. can this be done? also, what hardware do i need to connect two external displays? thanks

    Hi Kyle,
    you can try this one:

  • Using two displays simultaneously on an early intel mac mini

I would like to connect my Apple display and an LCD TV to my early Intel Mac Mini using a DVI-D splitter and DVI-D cable to the DVI input on the TV. I don't know if this Mac Mini's video card has a single or a duel DVI output. I'm assuming it has to have a duel output to be able to have both displays on at the same time. Also, from what I've read previously in the discussions, I assume I'll have hook up the audio output also, assuming the video works. Thanks for any help.

I'm pretty sure that can't work for a variety of reasons. Primarily the DVI output on the mini has a single digital output, not two. It has been shown that it can output VGA analog and DVI digital simultaneously when booted under Windows, but the OS X driver for the GMA950 does not support that same trick. So I don't think you are going to be able to do what you want unless you run Windows.
You could try add-on hardware if you really have your mind set on this. There are USB-to-video adapters out there on the market. They are reported to work pretty well with the caveat that they can't be used for things like full screen video which requires more bandwidth than USB can supply. But for a mostly static display, like using a mail reader or a browser without too much animation, or a spreadsheet, etc., they work well enough.

  • Using two displays simultaneously

Skipping over the unnecessary details, this is what I'm trying to do.
I'm on a MacBook. I want to have a video game running on my MacBook's screen, while having firefox displaying on my TV, and I'll have a movie streaming from Netflix.
I'm not too experienced with Macs, is this possible? I already have the proper cables and I've used the TV before as my monitor, but I haven't figured out how to display two different things on the TV and on my MacBook's screen.
Thanks in advance for any help

Open the "Displays" panel of System Preferences. Select the "Arrangement" tab, then uncheck "Mirror Displays".

  • Output video to Portrait Display

We're trying to use an iPad that's mounted in a stand locked in portrait mode in an installation. We're mirroring the video to two displays that we'd like to set up as portrait as well, so that we can take full advantage of the size of the screen instead of having the image only as tall as the height of the display in landscape mode.  We're currently looking for displays with onboard control of the resolution (for rotation purposes) however I'm worried that even if we can rotate the resolution on the display the iPad is still going to only output a small version of the mirrored video, so we'll actually end up with an even smaller mirror.
Are we pretty much screwed here? Should we just recommend that the displays are hidden behind a faux bezel so that only the center portion where the mirrored video shows up?

  • External Video: Is dual output possible?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there's a way to get Final Cut to send external video to more than one source at a time? Like, for example, through the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview & a Blackmagic card at once.
Sorry for the odd question, it's a suite setup my boss is working on. I'd be very grateful for a yay or a nay.

You can't do DCP and output to a capture card at the same time. You have to choose one or the other. BUT, the capture card can send the signal to more than one device...so SDI to one, Composite to another, HDMI to another...

  • External Video Problem

Macbook Pro (late 2008) connected to 24' LED Display. Final Cut Pro Studio 2. Final cut A/V settings for external video to LED display. Mirror on desktop checked. LED display is connected and black but I get no playback in the display. All frames, single frames, nothing. When I use motion and the LED display is selected as my external video, playback is perfectly synced in the viewer and display. All other programs allow me to use the LED display as my monitor except FCP. Why? I posted this before but got no answer. I have searched and searched. DVcreator.net, creativecow.net. etc....Nobody seems to know why I am not getting external playback in my LED display. I have trashed prefs, I have reinstalled the entire box set. Nothing. Anyone have any idea?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is a computer monitor (like I said Apple 24' LED Display) but its not DVI. The new Macbooks have that new mini display port. That is how it is connected. These new LED monitors were designed specifically for the new macbooks. You are correct about the " Digital Desktop Preview" part BUT a second display can be used as an external monitor via the external video settings (as long as you monitor audio from the built in audio). I have an AJA IO and I use that with my G5 edit bay and I am currently looking into the new Matrox MXO2 for my Macbook but the point is this works but only when I do as I said in my last reply. If I was editing video for NTSC viewing, of course I would use an I/O and monitor it on a NTSC monitor but considering a bulk of my editing is for the web and 720p, why not use a second display for monitoring? This is how I have gotten playback so far,
create new project, select "Digital Cinema Desktop Preview-Full Screen", import a video file that does not match the sequence settings. When I drag a clip to the timeline, choose NOT to change sequence settings to match the clip when it pops up. Then render the clip and I get synced playback in the viewer and LED display in fullscreen (but not with the preview slug). What is strange, if I export the rendered clip, re-import it and place it in the matched up sequence, my initial problem occurs. Unlimited RT is off (tried on as well). I have tried everything. The only reason I am **** bent on getting this to work is when I first got the computer and display, this WORKED!!! Perfectly. I imported HD mov files from an SD card and used the settings I am using now and had no problem what so ever. Then one day (only thing I can think of that changed was an OS security update) it just decided to NOT work. I believe it is a sequence/project setting problem or the fact that the media isn't logged, it is just imported. I'm trying to make a custom setting to fix this but no luck at the moment yet. If someone has the exact same setup as me please tell me you have the same problem and I don't have a hardware issue.....hmmmm In fact, I'm going to switch to the other lesser internal video card and see if that works.

  • Two displays for MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC graphics card ?

Is it possible to have two displays simultaneously connected to this graphics card:
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R6950-Twin-Frozr-III-Power-Edition-OC.html#?div=Overview
The card has two DVI-outputs "DVI Output: 2 (Single-Link DVI-D x1, Dual-Link DVI-I x1)".  I can use one display at a time and the second display only shows "No signal" error. I would like to use two displays when playing PC games, is it possible with this craphics card? Both my displays have VGA connector cables, and they are connected to the card with an VGA/DVI adapter.

what monitors you are using and what resolutions you're trying to use?
Both monitors are old models: 1) Panasonic PanaFlat PF90 2) acer AL 707.
I'm not sure what resolution I was using on acer when I tried to connect both monitors, but now I'm using PanaFLat with 1280 x 1024. Maybe I should try to set them both on 1024 x 768 and try again.

  • I'm use two screens, Firefox 4 is not displaying correctlying on my second screen. How do I fix this? (I have Windows 7, 64 bit, and using an external video card)

It only happens on the screen I'm using the external video card. I'm assuming its a bug.

I think this is related to other posts, the solution at the moment seems to be to disable hard acceleration.

  • Video does not display when sending from Final Cut Pro to Motion

Suddenly, when sending an audio & video sequence to Motion, a new Motion file is created, and all my layers come in properly, but the video does not display.
The audio plays fine, and Motion clearly know that there are video tracks there, but it does not display them.
Additionally, when rendering the Motion file back in FCP, it turns in to black video.
I have previous sequences within the same project that were sent just fine, and are editable properly, but any new ones I try to create just come out black.
    Help, please?

Do you have Motion mistakenly set to render out with an Alpha channel?
Double click your Motion clip in the Timeline. Go to Modify > Composite Mode in the menu bar and set the Alpha to "None/Ignore".

  • Can I have an external video source run in a window instead of using the full display?

I'm aware that the 27" iMac models are capable of accepting external video sources, but I'm wondering if it's possible to have an external video source run in a window on the desktop, rather then use the full display. Does anyone know if there's any software I can download to allow this, or will I have to purchase a special capture device?

hat I DON'T WANT TO OPEN the window application FROM the Labview VI BUT IN the Labview VI. I think it's possible to do that and to do communicate the OpenGL application with the Labview Interface using an ActiveX but I don't know how. Can someone help me ?The desired behavior you desribed may not be possible with that application. In general LabVIEW does not offer a window object that other standalone applications can run it. The closest thing is the ActiveX container. If the programmers for your application created an activeX control of your program and they provided documentation, it should be pretty easy to incorperate the app and labview into one window. I recommend contacting the manufacuturer of the app to see if they have an activeX control version of the app.

  • Can I run these two display resolutions simultaneously?

My early 2009 Mac Mini (MB463LL/A) is currently driving a 24" Dell display through the Mini DVI port at a resolution of 1920 X 1200. I plan to extend the desktop with a 20" display running at its optimal resolution of 1600 X 1200.
I'm a little confused by the specs, however, which state that the Mac Mini "simultaneously supports up to 1920 by 1200 pixels on a DVI or VGA display… and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on a dual-link DVI display using MiniDisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter…"
I understand about the adapters. What's unclear to me is whether these specifications refer to the total resolution split between two displays or the max resolution per display.
    In other words, I'd like to run my 24" display at 1920 X 1200 and 20" display at 1600 X 1200 simultaneously. Can I?
    Thanks.

Yes. The specs are for each physical port individually.

  • Portrait Display 640 x 870 75 hz on External Video Port?

Any way to force external video port into 640 x 870 @ 75 hz mode? I've got an old Apple M1030 monochrome display and a suitable cable adapter. My Pismo Powerbook recognizes that the M1030 as external display when connected, but doesn't seem to offer 640 x 870 as an option in mirror display mode. (There's clearly ouput, but display can't sync to it.) Anyway to force 640 x 870 mode? Some command line option, or even program interface? Anyway to turn off mirror display and keep the external setting window onto my Powerbook's display?Other ideas?
    Thanks,
    Seth

Can't get Mac OS 10.3.9 to accept SwitchRes setting 640x870. SwitchRes knows this setting, and, I can create a "custom" 640x870. But, it seems Mac OS 10.3.9 will not allow such a setting to be installed. (Reviewed by email with author of SwitchRes, Stephane Madrau.) There may be some "sanity check" in the OS which won't accept this aspect ratio. For what it's worth, I use video timings from Mac IIci manual p.51 (PDF p.59) http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/DeveloperNotes/Macintosh_CPUs-68K_Desktop/MacIIci.pdf Anyone know if 10.4.x would tolerate such a setting?
