You have posted in the wrong forum. What u need is JTAPI or Java Comm API which enables modem control and telephonye control.

  • How do you set up the stupid USB modem to send faxes?

Just bought the stupid USB modem because my new G5 is so new and improved that it doesn't have a modem like my old G4. Naturally I was so pleased to spend extra money that I hastened to order a brand new USB modem from Apple. Aren't they smart? Eliminate minor product features and then sell them separately to gullible users.
Well Apple's even smarter than I thought, because not only did they not include the modem on the new G5, the 'manual' doesn't actually tell you how to use it to send faxes. That guarantees you'll go to their website and maybe even buy more stuff.
So, has anybody out there actually figured out how to make an Apple product work in spite of itself, or do I have to go to my local business store and buy a fax machine?
    PowerBook G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Yes, I did what the manual said
When I phone my fax line, I hear the fax squeal produced by the Mac, so I could get incoming faxes, but the modem isn't recognized as a printer so I can't send out faxes. Manual explains how to dial out, but seems to be talking about how to connnect to the Internet with a dial-up modem.
Since you don't say what specific problem you are
    having,
Have you gone to System Preferences > Print & Faxing
Faxing> Set Up Fax Modem yet?
Have you looked at "Mac OS Help" type Fax in search
box - lots of info there.
    Hope this helps

  • HOW TO SEND FAX THROUGH INTERNAL MODEM

    Hi,
I am trying to use my computer to send a recieve faxs. I am connected to the internet via infar red port. And I am under the impression I can use my internal modem to send and receive faxes.
I have hooked the phone socket to internal modem input on my Lap top and have tried many times to send and receive but it says my modem is not set up.
Looking in prefs it is not set up, but it wants a telephone number for dial up.
I have broadband so have no idea about a telephone number for dial up.
Is there a way to set the modem up to receive and send faxes and still be connected to broadband internet?
    Hope you can help,
    Jamie

If you want to use the modem to send and receive faxes, then you don't want to have the Network trying to control it, you should disable the modem port in the Network prefs and use only the Ethernet port. You can use the Network prefs to troubleshoot to ensure that the modem is in working condition, but you can't have the network dial-up taking control of the modem at the same time as you want to be waiting for a fax or sending a fax. This can cause the modem to get hung, and you will get the waiting behavior that you described.
You should just be able to receive faxes by checking the "Receive faxes on this computer" button in the Print & Fax Prefs. If you had an external modem you could see some activity lights come on as soon as you check the box as it goes into standby to answer a call mode, with an internal the only way to know it's working is to send yourself a fax.
To send a fax, I think you might need to configure a Fax printer, if you don't seem to have one already. Click the "Setup Fax Modem..." button at the bottom of that Print & Fax Prefs. IF you launch /Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility can you select from the View Menu: Show Fax List and does anything show up in the list? You should have a Fax List and fax printer in that list similar to your Printer List and whatever printer you have installed.
To check if the modem is even working you may have to use some modem terminal utility like ZTerm that will let you type simple commands and check the modem response. For example AT should result in an OK. With the internal you can't check the activity lights to see if you are receiving data or sending data, so I'm not sure how else you can verify the internal modem is actually functioning. It might be worthwhile checking that first, or if you know you can use it for dial-up, I still use my modem as a backup for when DSL goes out (rarely).

  • Please help: Problem sending fax to one recipient using Apple USB Modem

    Hello,
I'm using an Apple USB Modem to send an receive faxes on my PowerMac G5. This is working great to the most recipients, but not one with a Philips fax machine.
The problem is, that everybody can send faxes to him - except of me
I'm using a software called Pagesender for this, I e-mailed the support and he told me, that the my fax is timing out and some of his customers have made positive reports of Zoom and Best Data Modems in cases where the Apple Modems have encountered line noise.
Also the Tiger fax solution doesn't work ... The odd things are, that I could send faxes using a stationary fax machine and don't have problems to send faxes to others ...
Is there really no solution for this.
    Best regards

  • Unable to send fax via internal modem

Until two days ago our internal modem was working fine we have been able to send faxes with no problem. I have ran disk first aid and repair, but the modem still is not able to send a fax. We have check the phone line and there is a dial tone up to the computer, but not dial tone in the computer. Is my modem dead or is there another way to fix the problem.

  • Cannot send fax to shared usb modem

I have a Mac Mini, with 10.6.8, with an attached USB Fax Modem. This fax modem is shared in Print Preferences. I cannot send a fax through this shared fax modem from the 10.8.5 Mac Mini Server on the LAN. The print Dialog recognizes the fax modem and the appropriate fax dialog displays allowing me to enter the phone number, select a cover page, etc. The fax does not appear in the 10.6.8 print queue. The fax modem sends faxes when sent from the 10.6.8 Mac Mini - the machine it is attached to.
Does someone know what is preventing a document being faxed from the 10.8.5 machine  through the shared fax modem on the 10.6.8 machine, and how to correct this problem?
    Thank you.
    Lewis Lorenz

Added info: The problem above is happening only when i "fax pdf" from Adobe Reader. "Fax pdf" from preview, or mac word are working fine. So the issue is narrowed down to "Fax pdf" from Adobe reader results in no phone number being passed to the shared fax.

  • USB Apple modem sends faxes fine but won't receive

I've set up an Apple USB modem and while I can send Faxes fine, it won't receive: the call comes in, the little message at the top margin of the screen says "ringing", but it just won't pick up! I have it set to answer after 2 rings... Any ideas?

    Hey Jason,
I have ran into this situation quite a few times in my experiences with fax issues,  it very well could be the digital line itself. My last suggestions for you would be to try a power reset on the printer, and also try a filter on the fax line to see if that could help the line. If you are still having issues with sending faxes, give us a call to our technical support to see if there are any more options for you.
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Here is an example of a filter:

  • Sending Faxes using internal modem and DSL

I found that I can receive a fax, but I cannot send one. When I try and send one the internal modem tries to connect to the internet using "internet connect". It searches for a number to connect to the internet. Since I am using DSL now I don't have a phone number to dial into the internet. If I put my phone number in it calls me and gets a busy signal.
Can someone tell me how I should be configuring the internal modem?

    From the Knowledge Base at
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1797.html
    Sending a fax
You can fax files directly from your computer to any fax machine or computer that is set up to receive faxes. If your computer has a modem that is connected to a phone line, it is automatically configured to send faxes.
Open the document you want to fax.
    Choose File > Print.
Choose Fax PDF from the PDF pop-up menu.
Type the fax number of the user you want to receive your fax in the To field.
You can also choose users directly from Address Book by clicking the Address Book button to the right of the To field. Be sure you have a fax number listed for each user you choose in Address Book. For more information about using Address Book, see Address Book Help, available in the Help menu when Address Book is open.
If necessary, type the dialing prefix required for the phone system you're using in the Dialing Prefix field. (For example, if you need to dial a 9 to access an outside line, type 9 in the Dialing Prefix field.)
If you want to send a fax through a modem other than your computer's built-in modem, choose it from the Modem pop-up menu.
If you want to send a cover page with your fax, click the Use Cover Page checkbox and type a message in the Message field.
If you need to change any of the preset faxing options, choose the type of options you want to change from the Fax Cover Page pop-up menu. (To see options for the application you're using, choose the application from the pop-up menu.)
If necessary, select options for the type you chose. (For example, you can select the number of copies you want faxed if you chose Copies & Pages in step 8.)
Tip: If you have a combination of options that you frequently use when faxing a document, you can save it as a "preset." After choosing your options, choose Save As from the Presets pop-up menu and type a name for the set of options. If you want to use this set of options when you fax a document, choose its name from the Presets pop-up menu.
    Click Fax.
The fax is sent as soon as your modem is available. (For example, if you're using your modem to connect to the Internet, the fax is sent after you disconnect from your Internet service provider.)
You may want to send your fax at a later time. For example, you may want to send it at night when telephone rates are lower. Just choose Scheduler from the Fax Cover Page pop-up menu, and enter the time. Make sure your computer is on, is not asleep, and is connected to your phone line at that time.

  • "Let others send fax through this computer" - problem: modem not showing up

I have a macbook that does not have an internal modem for faxing. I am using another networked mac in our office that has an internal modem for faxing. I have set up the printing and fax preferences to "let others send faxes through this computer" on the mac that can fax. It has worked in the past, but this morning when I went to fax from my macbook, I cannot see the modem in the mac that can fax. I have also checked with other macs in the office and they can't see it either. Network is okay, I can access the computer through connect to server, I have repaired permissions, restarted and still no modem showing up or shared printers showing up. I have not updated anything on the mac that can fax. Any ideas?

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1801.html
Strange, not sure why it's not showing up.
Have you confirmed that the fax printer is working on the host Mac? Maybe try turning off the sharing and deleting the existing Fax Printer in the Fax List with /Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility, and creating the Fax Printer again, and turn on sharing again.

  • Problem on sending fax with Apple USB modem

    Hello everyone,
I use my macmini to manage faxes to help my father's business, as fax is one of the most important mean of communication to our clients. While I can only receive fax from outside to my mac, but I cannot send fax from my mac through "Send PDF" option, it just stop working, and "Waiting for modem to become available" without using my telephone-line. It is weird when I plug it into my macbook that it works.
Look forward to your advice. Thank you,

I am having problems sending and receiving faxes, too, and have been working with AppleCare level 2. They are off for a couple of days, and the solution is nowhere in sight. They did capture information from my system as I tried to fax, and sent it to engineering. They have determined that I am not getting a dial tone.
When I connect my phone to the jack, I do get a dial tone and can talk on the phone (which I do frequently). I have been provided with two additional new Apple USB modems to try to see if that would fix the problem. It did not make any difference which of the three modems I use, I cannot send or receive faxes. Yesterday, I booted up my old iMac (OS X 10.4.11 with a collapsing hard drive, but an internal modem). I attached this computer to the same phone jack and was able to freely send faxes - every single try.
I downloaded and set up the application PageSender just to see if it was the fax software (I have been trying to just use what came with my MacBook Pro). Using the Apple USB external modem (as I have had to do with this computer and operating system), I could not send any faxes - could not get a dial tone, according to PageSender.
I, therefore, believe that the problem is with the external modem and/or the extensions that operate the external modem.
I did try what you have suggested above - the substitution of the IOSerialFamily.kext:
I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions HD and HD_2. I loaded OS X 10.5.5 (from my CD) onto the second partition. I then copied the IOSerialFamily.kext on my thumb drive (from OS X 10.5.5 the version was 92). Then I upgraded to 10.5.6, and copied the ioSerialFamily.kext on my thumb drive - this time with 10.5.6 the version was 93. I went back to my first partition where I have 10.5.7 (version 94) and tried to transfer version 93 IOSerialFamily.kext to the extensions. As soon as I tried to mount the Apple USB modem I received the following message:
    "System extension cannot be used
The system extension”/system/Library/Estensions/IOSerialFamily.kext/contents/PlugIns/Motor olaSM56KUSB.kext was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact the product’s vendor for an update."
At that point I tried to exchange the version 93 with the one that I removed - version 94, but I continued to get the same message. I decided to reinstall 10.5.7 again hoping that this would solve the message problem. No such luck! I did now have version 94, but the same error message. At this point, I tried a permissions repair. This solved the error problem... but I was still not able to send or receive faxes, because the fax programs could detect not dial tone.
Because I have never sent or received faxes with this computer - only my iBook (10.4.11), I decided to go back to the second partition on my computer and see if I could send a fax from the macBook Pro with 10.5.6. The results are sporadic. I had to try several times, and occasionally I would get a dial tone and could send the fax, but more often, I could not. There was no difference in any of the 2 modems I tried (by now I had returned 1 to the Apple Store), or whether I used the front USB port or the rear USB port. The sending of a fax with MacBook Pro and 10.5.6 was not consistent or reliable and I could only occasionally get a dial tone... with 10.5.7 I can never get a dial tone.
According to my AppleCare representative the engineers are "on this". But I see that the original post was in November, which was prior to 10.5.7; I purchased my MacBook Pro with 10.5.5 in December, so imagine that this problem has been around through several upgrades of 10.5.
This is unbelievably frustrating! Has anyone been able to easily send and receive faxes with 10.5.5?
Chris (hopefully you are still around), did you get any error messages when you exchanged your 10.5.6 IOSerialFamily.kext for the 10.5.7 IOSerialFamily.kext - especially when you mounted- or tried to attach the external modem? If so, how did you handle that?
Sorry that this has been such a long post. I have tried to provide as much information as I could in the hopes of finding a solution. Any ideas???
    THANKS!

  • Unable to send Fax

While I was able to send faxes in the past, suddenly I cannot. Now when I click print - send fax and fill in the info to send I get a "error while printing"message. The "modem" field in the fax dialog box reads "no fax selected" When I click "show fax list" the box is empty. I have gone to help, system preferences-print and fax, and searched the forum etc. without finding a solution. Any new ideas? Thanks. (I did recently perform my first "cleaning" operation with OnyX)

Is it showing up in Printer Setup Utility's Printer List or in Printer Setup Utility's Fax List?
Where are you seeing this checkbox and stuff? When I launch /Application/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility, I don't get any sort of windows with Internal Modem listed (in either the Printers window, where it doesn't belong anyways) or in the Fax window, with any sort of checkbox.
Or are you talking about System Preferences Print&Fax? I see checkboxes, but Internal Modem does NOT show up in the Printing List in my Sys Prefs' Print&Fax, and mine works. Yours must be mistakenly thinking its a printer and not a fax driver. Search your hard drive for Internal Modem or Internal Modem.app and tell me where you find it. Mine is in my User Library folder's Printers folder, along with HL-1440 series.app, which belongs to my Brother laserprinter. Other user accounts on my computer that have never sent a fax before do not have Internal Modem.app in their User Library folder's Printers folder.
Have you considered, in an act of desparation, to reapply the OS 10.4.10 combo update? If there are components of something missing from system software, or corrupted components present, that should reinstall them. Just remember to verify your disk before you start, and repair permissions both before and after you reapply the combo update. I would, however, be tempted to either delete this Internal Modem thing, or at least temporarily relocate it to your Desktop or something, before reapplying the combo update, and then recreate your SysPrefs Print&Fax Faxing setup, then do the FAX PDF stuff again from Text Edit.

  • Can't Send FAX / FAX not working

    Dear Techies,
I am facing a horrible problem in sending FAX. In our company, our directors are using MAC Book Air & Mac Book. I have a MAC Book too (i am a newbie to MAC), which they had given me for testing purpose, so that i should clear all their problems in MAC. so its actually a tough thing...
Now, they are not able to send FAX from these machines. They asked me to provide them the solution, and i tried in and out in my MAC Book, But no way... I googled a lot, i found many of the discussions based on this issue, but i didnt saw any working solution for it. Now its the 3rd day for me to sit with this issue. Hope someone will be here to help me. Let me give you the details...
Hardware: MAC book and Mac Book Air
OS: MAC OS X Version 10.4.10
CPU: 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo
    Mem: 2 GB 667Mhz DDR2
    MODEM: External Apple USB modem
    Scenario 1:
I tried sending the fax from safari (File--> Print--> Fax PDF), then specified our internal FAX number, also Dialing prefix as 9(bcoz i am behind a EPABX, so 9 to get dial tone)
To: 63452743 (Fax number, not original)
    Dialing Prefix: 9
    Dialing: Tone (selected)
    Sound: on (selected)
Wait for dial tone before dialing: selected
    then i clicked "FAX"
    but the result was; FAILURE...
    Result 1:
    It will dial, and stands like connected, while showing a progress bar "Faxing" in the external modem window. after around 3 minutes, it stops... and shows the following message in the external modem window;
    "hold until 05:01 p.m."
again it will try at that specified time, and the result is same.
    Scenario2:
    I tried with fax command;
    fax send 9-66728437 test-file.001
    and i tried
    fax send 966728437 test-file.001
    Result2:
    It will also do the same like above and finally gives up, and then it will write a log as the following;
    command;
    abcs-computer:~ kmr$ sudo fax send 9-66766766 test-file.001

So thats all about all my trials and result.... Please help me to get out of this bad situation...
NOTE: I had changed the original FAX number from this post to different numbers...
    Thats all...
    Thanks in Advance...
and really awaiting for your valuable comments.

First of all, really thanking you 3 for your posts. i dont need to do a internet faxing. The safari, which i mentioned, in the scenario is an example. My director might need to send FAX from doc files, html files, mails, pdf files etc.
So i need a solution to do the FAX through FAX pdf, which is available through printing.
Then regarding the analog vs digital PBX, here we use analog and digital PBX. But i am trying through the analog line. Still, today i went to the telephone people and asked to give me an direct line to check this out. Then i tried from it.
Fax command and faxing through graphical (fax pdf) gives the same error. But efax command showed a different kind of error message which i will post it here... So i think i will have to work on it... so i requested the telecommunication people to give me an direct line to my table for 2-3 days, so that i could run many test on it... but still i am waiting for their confirmation.
Anyway pls have a look at this message, and put forward ur suggestions.
NOTE: i forgot to notify in the previous post that, the main error point in the log files is "NO CARRIER"
