Sending faxes via computer

Hi,
can anyone help..... i see you can send and receive faxes on the mac which is a cool feature but i'm having issues with setting this up. I believe the issue is because i don't have a dial up modem. I'm connected to the internet via broadband. Is this right??? or can you send and receive faxes using a broadband connection???
thanks

Hi Reelsick Productions!
See if any of these Third-Party FAX programs are adequate Version Tracker Search.
There are also some other FAX services like eFax.
Good Luck!

  • Sending Fax via OS X?

I am clueless when it comes to faxing via a computer, so forgive my "stupid" question.
I want to be able to send faxes via the computer. Any recommendations on how to do this? I don't have an actual fax machine, but rather just a mac connected to the internet.
Free is good, but I am willing to pay a little.
    Any help greatly appreciated,
    Phil

The simplest way is to add a fax modem to your machine, hook that to your phone line and you're done - you can 'print' any document to the fax and away it goes. Apple's USB Modem (part no. MA034Z/A) does the job just fine.
The next step up would be a multi-function printer, if you have one. These devices combine printer, scanner and fax machine in one device and most enable faxing from the computer (similar to the above option where you 'print' to the fax machine).
Failing that there are several internet fax services such as eFax, Fax.com and MyFax (not an exhaustive list, by far). Pricing on these vary and these services tend to offer free or low-cost incoming fax options, too.
The main difference with the internet fax services is the file formats they support. Some offer support of uploading documents (e.g. Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, etc.) that they then 'print' and fax, but the big problem here is in formatting - if you used fonts they don't have installed then the results might not be as you expect. Usually you're better off printing to PDF (via the standard Print dialog) and uploading the PDF file which has a higher chance of being transmitted as you expect.

  • HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color M276nw - Cannot Send Faxes via WIFI

    Hi all,
I have a problem sending faxes from my laptop through the HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color M276nw printer.
I can send faxes from the printer device itself if i place a doucment into the feeder.
The problem exists when connecting to the all-in-one device via the WIFI, printing is fine and connection is active though when trying to fax a dcoument from my desktop utilising the FAX driver it complains about the printer being offline and cannot communicate to the all-in-one device?
    any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hey @BSA_IT,
Welcome to the HP Support Forum.
I understand you're having an issue sending faxes from your PC through the HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw.  I would like to assist you with this.
    The following might help:
Click on Start / Devices and Printers
Double click on your printer's Fax icon
    Click See What's Printing
    Click Printer
If 'Use Printer Offline' is checked as you'll see in the screenshot below, be sure to uncheck it.
Next, try sending the fax through your laptop as before.  If you run into the same issue, try the following steps to rule out Windows settings as interfering with fax sending capabilities:
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box right above Start, type msconfig and hit enter on your keyboard
When the System Configuration Window opens select 'Selective Startup' and uncheck Load Startup Items
Click the Services tab. Check the box at the bottom for Hide All Microsoft Services
    Select Disable All
    Select Apply and OK
    Restart your computer when prompted
Once the computer reboots, trying sending the fax.
To enable the programs after you've tested  the machine, just open MSCONFIG the same way and under the general tab, just click 'normal startup' Hit apply and OK and reboot one final time
Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.
    Best of luck!

  • Unable to send fax from computer

    Hi,
I'm unable to send faxes from my computer (e.g, from Word). I get a message: "The device is disconnected or powered off", which is not true.
The printer is an HP  LaserJet 1536dnf MFP.
The OS is Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit, with 8 GB RAM.
I have updated to the latest firmware from the HP site, and have downloaded the latest appropriate driver package for this printer from there as well (hp_M1530_MFP_full_Solution_usb_n_w.exe)
The installation goes normally, and there are no error messages.
The printer is working fine. I am able to print and scan from the computer without problems. I am also able to fax directly from the printer without problems. The only problem is not being able to send a fax directly from the computer.
For instance, in Word (the latest version), when I print to the HP fax printer (which has indeed been installed correctly on the computer), I get a message that the doc has been send to the printer. But no screen pops up letting me type a phone number, and after about 1 minute I get this error:
Have been on the phone for several hours to HP support, and although they did a complete uninstall, and reinstall, the problem persists.
I also downloaded and ran this file from HP: HPLJ_M1530_Fax_IE_11_utility.exe, which is meant to resolve a very similar issue for people who have this Microsoft KB installed (KB2898785), which somehow interferes with the fax exactly as I have described. I do indeed have that Windows update installed. However, running the file did not solve the problem, and there seems to be no way of uninstalling that KB.
So I am at a loss, and would appreciate any help, if anybody can think of anything.
    Many thanks
    Tim

    Hi @Tim613 ,
I see by your post that you are unable to send a fax from the computer. I would like to help.
Since you are able to print and scan from the computer, you don't have a communication issue. The printer will also send a fax, so it isn't a hardware issue. It sounds more like something possibly on the computer is blocking the fax communication.
The Toolbox doesn't support Windows 7 64 bit, but you should still be able to fax through Third Party Software. (Word) Which you have already tried and it didn't work.
I would disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software to see if there is a program interfering in the back ground. How to use MSCONFIG . Click on the start up tab and click disable all.
    Try sending a fax again.
Then you will have to go back and enable the startup programs and turn the Antivirus Software back on again.
    Let me know the outcome.
    Have a wonderful day!
    Thank You.

  • Unable to send fax via internal modem

Until two days ago our internal modem was working fine we have been able to send faxes with no problem. I have ran disk first aid and repair, but the modem still is not able to send a fax. We have check the phone line and there is a dial tone up to the computer, but not dial tone in the computer. Is my modem dead or is there another way to fix the problem.
    Thanks

If you want to use the modem to send and receive faxes, then you don't want to have the Network trying to control it, you should disable the modem port in the Network prefs and use only the Ethernet port. You can use the Network prefs to troubleshoot to ensure that the modem is in working condition, but you can't have the network dial-up taking control of the modem at the same time as you want to be waiting for a fax or sending a fax. This can cause the modem to get hung, and you will get the waiting behavior that you described.
You should just be able to receive faxes by checking the "Receive faxes on this computer" button in the Print & Fax Prefs. If you had an external modem you could see some activity lights come on as soon as you check the box as it goes into standby to answer a call mode, with an internal the only way to know it's working is to send yourself a fax.
To send a fax, I think you might need to configure a Fax printer, if you don't seem to have one already. Click the "Setup Fax Modem..." button at the bottom of that Print & Fax Prefs. IF you launch /Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility can you select from the View Menu: Show Fax List and does anything show up in the list? You should have a Fax List and fax printer in that list similar to your Printer List and whatever printer you have installed.
To check if the modem is even working you may have to use some modem terminal utility like ZTerm that will let you type simple commands and check the modem response. For example AT should result in an OK. With the internal you can't check the activity lights to see if you are receiving data or sending data, so I'm not sure how else you can verify the internal modem is actually functioning. It might be worthwhile checking that first, or if you know you can use it for dial-up, I still use my modem as a backup for when DSL goes out (rarely).

  • Sending Fax via EMail

    Hello,
Is it possible to send Fax Number via Email through Output Server to MS Exchange? I get the "Underlying mail system has reported problems in accessing post office" error when I try. We can send Fax Number via Outlook no problem. thanks, C.

Michelle_Hanson wrote: Cheapest Business VoIP Phone Inexpensive Online Fax
    Hi all,
I use to send faxes from my email. All you have to do is purchase an account from a internet fax provider (i bought from popfax). All you have to do is to configurate your mail agent (such as outlook) and insert the mail of the company, the security code , attach the file and write the numbers (up to 500 of numbers)
We've used several email fax companies as well and it is a convenient way to email if you don't mind scanning everything first and for many files,if they contain personal info or confidential email, you need to password protect before you can email.  So in many way, a regular fax is more time efficient.

  • Sending faxes via efax on Photosmart 7515

Everything -- printing, scanning, faxing -- used to work on my 7515. Now everything except the sending of faxes works. I used to fax effortlessly (never more than 2-4 faxes per month) with the free efax account I set up when I bought my 7515. (All software associated with the 7515 is up to date.)
So I checked efax.com, and it says there that one cannot send faxes using the efax free account.
Did the terms of service change recently? If so, when? I did not know, when I bought the printer, that my modest fax usage would expire.
If not: did I miss a download notice, or does something new need to be installed?

    Hi @DanMWatson
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I understand that you are unable to access the eFax on your Photosmart 7515 printer.
I have included a link to a post by @PrintApper regarding eFax titled eFax users - please read.  It has the information regarding the eFax feature.

    Hi,
With ECC 5.0 version Right Fax can be used. This is an external Fax software that need to be installed on the system.
At the same Right Fax operating prices are very less when comparing with other Fax softwares.
Please check this option. We have successfully implemented this for our client.

    Hi all,
Can I fax direct from the iMac desktop via an internet ISP, without using a wired connection
to the phone lines. Do I need any dedicated software for this.
Your help, as always, will be much appreciated...

I know you didn't want to mess around with phone lines but you could consider a fax modem. I have been told that the Apple usb modem will work as a fax.

  • OSX Yosemite cannot send fax from computer

    OS X Yosemite.  Photosmart 7250
fax from printer - returns  "Communication Failure", no code, message in Fax Queue.
I am not prompted to enter a phone#.  Fax goes to fax queue and hangs.
Manual Fax from device works fine, phoneline communication is good.
HP Utility can communicate with FAX device.
HP Utility can test Fax device, successful.
Can test FAX device from web page, successful.
checked firmware - up to date
downloaded and installed latest HP software, drivers released  10/22/2014
wiped HP printers and did a clean install.
    Did a hard power reset.
In other words, have done everything HP says at least once or twice.
    Oh, this worked BEFORE Yosemite.
HP software is listed as for Yosemite OSX 10.10 on website.

    It was ADOBE Acrobat.
Adobe puts their own print dialog between user and OS.
I bypassed this and used the system dialog.  It prompted for phone number and I sent and received a fax using HP's fax test number, 1-888-473-2963
    NOTE  to HP   :
Your online help desk could have saved me 2 hours of frustration if they asked these questions:
Is your application using its own print dialog?
Have you tried faxing from the OS print/fax dialog?
This question should be asked BEFORE all other diagnostic tests!
Now I gotta go talk to Adobe!

  • HP Send Fax - Broken

Problem occurs on LaserJet Pro 200 Color MFP M276nw.
Print, Scan, ePrint, etc works fine. Fax works fine at the printer itself (manually feeding paper through).
Fax does not work using the Windows application "HP Send Fax". The error dialog shows everytime, no matter how many times I uninstall/reinstall the entire software package from HP for the printer.
Windows Fax and Scan and print to Fax does not work because this printer does not create its own Fax port.
Downgrading to Internet Explorer 10 (as some discussion around sending fax via the PC suggests) is NOT AN OPTION due to corporate security policies.
    Help?

    Hi kcnet,
I understand that you are unable to send a fax through the software. I can help you.
Do you also have the Laserjet 200 M276 printer also?
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Can you send a fax from the printer?
I would disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software to see if there is a program interfering in the back ground. How to use MSCONFIG . Click on the start up tab and click disable all.
Try and send another fax again through the software.
Then you will have to go back and enable the startup programs and turn the Antivirus Software back on again.
Follow the steps in this document to get to the device manager to check for the printer entries. See if you have any conflicts for the fax driver. Also check devices and printers, to see if there is a icon for the fax.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
If the issue persists, just to rule out a network or communication issue, connect the printer directly to the computer by a USB cable to see if you have the same results. This way we will know if it is software related or a communication issue.
If the issue persists, uninstall the printer software and then download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows. HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • Since upgrade to 10.4.5: Faxing via shared fax modem broken?

Since upgrading my Macs to Mac OS X 10.4.5 sending faxes via a shard fax doesn’t work anymore. When attempting to send a fax the error message
    "Error while printing"
pops up. However, when faxing directly from the Mac with the shared fax modem, everythings works flawlessly.
This used to work prior to upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.5.
    Anyone here with similar experiences?
    Werner.
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

The kernel panic points to Airport. Either your Airport software is way out of date or your Airport card may not be properly seated or has failed. So the first thing to do is remove the Airport card. If the panics cease, then reinstall the Airport card and see what happens. If it panics again, then remove the Airport card.
The next thing I would do is:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.1.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The next thing I would do is download the 10.4.4 Combo Updater and reinstall the update. Then reinstall the Airport card and see if it works properly.
I would suggest that before installing the update that you first boot into safe mode.

  • Error when clicking send fax in SAP B1 2007A

    Hi,
I'm trying to configure my client's SAP B1 server to be able to send faxes via SBOMailer and MS Fax. I read the guides and documentation.
    1. Does faxing only work strictly in the scenarios stated in the documentation?
    2. Will it work if:-
    a) The server has MS Fax and a fax modem installed; and
    b) I am logged in to the server via remote desktop; and
    c) I only configured the fax portion of the SBOMailer since I am not using the email function?
Basically, in this scenario, the Service Manager, SBO Mailer, MS Fax, fax modem and SAP Client (because I am using remote desktop) are on the same machine.
I am asking this because I keep getting the following error when I click send:-
"Email address has not been defined for the sender. Cannot send email, SMS, or fax. , 'manager' [Message 3581-4]"
I have checked the company details, business partner details and the fax console's "sender information". They all have email addresses and fax numbers keyed in.
After a few minutes, the fax console shows that the system tried to dial to itself and so got a "no dial tone" error. The file that it sent only contained the Cover page and nothing else. What's going on?
Can anyone out there help me?
    Regards,
    Jin Siang

    Hi,
Thanks for your advice. That solved one part of the problem. Now the system states "Operation Completed Successfully." BUT nothing appears in the fax console outbox and sent folders. The SBOMailer and MS Fax do not seem to be communicating with each other.
Email settings are blank because it is not used.
    For fax settings, I put:-
    Microsoft Fax Server: Server IP
    Fax Server Type: Microsoft Fax
    All tickboxes have been checked.
    Schedule settings: On specific date
    Connection settings: Correct login settings
    Database settings: Correct DB selected
    Any ideas, guys?
    Thanks,
    Chris.
