Sending files by mail - time out?

When I send emails with attached files, larger than appr 2 MB, I cannot send the email.
My IT provider says it has to do with a Time out setting by Mac? Anybody know how to fix this?

Try using traceroute and ping. Use them to check the connection speeds between the source and destination computers. You can easily do this by using the tools in the Network utility, which is in the Utilities folder.

  • Apple Mail Time Out / "Cannot Send Message Using The Server..."

When trying to send messages of 5-10MB using my Apple Mail, it sends fine when on my home connection. But when on my (3G) mobile datacard, it seems to get half or 3/4s the way, but doesn't quite make it to the end, then times out with the message "Cannot Send Message Using The Server...". It seems that the Apple Mail doesn't allow enough time before deciding to cancel the attempted send. Is there a way to fix this eg by changing settings?

I'm seeing something similar here (using an Exchange 2007 server -- SMTP works just fine). Unfortunately, I have no solution to offer. I would be glad to hear of any, though.

  • Entourage Outgoing Mail Times Out

Can't get any outgoing emails to send with Entourage '04. I get an error that the sever can't be connected, and it times out. As a result I no longer have the capability to send outgoing mail from the program. BTW, Apple mail works just fine. But, I have way too much stuff tied into Entourage right now to even begin moving everything over to Mail. The problem started a few weeks ago, first on my MacBook Pro and now on my iMAC 20. Can't seem to find an answer anywhere to fix this. My ISP swears it is not on their end. My firewall is not blocking anything. I've scanned thru and tried multiple troubleshooting tips here on the Apple Support site, still no luck. Microsoft online support is useless! I'm in the Navy, on the road, and don't have the luxury of sifting thru tons of self-help sites - don't have the available bandwidth here on the ship either. I dont' want to go out and buy MS Office '08 and find the same issues with it. Has Apple done a patch or something recently to have caused this? MS won't talk to me without first getting my Credit Card number...THAT is a crock...but I'll leave that for a later discussion, maybe. Can someone PLEASE help me fix this mess? Thanks...

I have the same problem, but only when I am at my parents home in another state with a different service provider. For some reason, at certain locations I am not able to send using Entourage. I am able to do it in my town all the time and at multiple locations, even all of the wifi spots. This leads me to believe it is not Entourage or OS X directly, but something with the where I am accessing the internet from, i.e. my ISP. I know you said they insisted it was not there fault, but maybe they could not find a solution and passed the problem on. I have spent many hours searching discussion boards and have find many "answers", but I still do not have a solution. I installed office '08 and that did not help my problem just so you know.
I really do not know what to do. I have the same grief about Microsoft's help and would be happy if I could somehow replace Office, but I cannot so I just have to eat it and continue to use their products.

  • Checking mail times out

I have 22 eamil addresses that are checked every 5 miinutes by Mail. Lately, almost every time one or more of the checks times out. I have to manually click the Get Mail button after that to get them all to check or the next automatic check migh (if I am lucky) check them all again. Ocassionally I have to click the menu item, "Take All Accounts Online."
    Any suggestions?

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
Select the right facing arrow in a blue circle to view the wi-fi settings for the wi-fi network your iPhone is connected to. Select Forget this Network for the network to delete the network from your iPhone. Follow this by reconnecting to the network.
If no change after this, go to Settings > General > Reset and select Reset Network Settings. This will delete all wi-fi networks from your iPhone that you have previously connected your iPhone with. This will require re-joining all wi-fi networks you have access to. Try rejoining your network.
If no change after this, try restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.

  • Outgoing mail times out.

For the past week, I have been unable to send emails through the Mail client. I am receiving mail just fine, but whenever I try to send something, this message appears:
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered. The connection to the server 'smtp.mac.com' on port 25 timed out.
I tried deleting the account from the Mail program, and then adding the account back, but the same problem persists. I'm afraid I'm not very computer savvy, and don't know what else to do.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello Charlie.
Sounds like your ISP used for connecting to the internet may have recently started blocking the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network on Port 25.
    Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting. If you are prompted to save the changed setting when exiting preferences, select OK to save the change.
Test if this resolves the problem.
If not and you are also accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail that is provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet, select your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account which is done under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection.

  • Is there a contextual menu plug-in to send files with Mail?

Anyone have any ideas if there exists a contextual menu plug-in that works between the Finder and Apple Mail which would allow you to email a file with a simple right-click.
Unfortunately to make a comparison with a PC, in the same way that you can select +Send To+ > +Mail Receipient+ via the contextual menu.

You can also make one yourself with Automator.
    With Automator (/Applications/Automator):
Select "Files & Folders" and set 'Get content from' to "Use files and folders selected in the Finder when workflow runs"
From the far-left panel, under Library, select "Mail".
Drag "New Mail Message" and drop it under "Get Selected Finder Items" shown on the far right panel
Select "Save as Plug-in" from the File menu. Give it a meaningful name.. "Send with Mail" should be OK. The plug-in type you want is "Finder"
The action is now available from the contextual menu: More -> Automator -> Send with Mail
    Have a nice day

  • Yahoo mail times out before it connects.

I have been using Yahoo Mail and Mozilla for quite a while w/o any issues.
About a week ago I started having a major issue trying to sign into my yahoo mail.
It takes forever and if it connects w/o timing out anything else I do in mail has the same issue.
If I go to sent box or inbox it will say 'loading email" and this can last and then "there appears to be a problem loading the message list, RETRY".
    I would really appreciate support.
I am very frustrated as I am unable to use my Yahoo Mail Account the way I had been for the last 6 years.

  • ATTACHMENT TIMES OUT! Mail, Safari and Firefox (Hotmail, ISP webmail)

I have a problem recently appeared out of blue. It consists of the following:
every time I try to send attachment the server times out (e-mails without attachments are sent swiftly).
Mail asks for another server to be able to send e-mail. On Hotmail account and my ISPs webmail (both in Safari and Firefox) it gets stuck until I get logged out from the page.
I have MacBook Pro and use Tiger 10.4.10 and all the latest software updates. No antivirus software. On the internet side, I have 512 ADSL. Download works fine - full capacity, browsing is good except e-mail clients.
I did god knows what. Swiched off FileVault, turned off my router's firewall, chatted for hours with my ISP support (he's a hot guy but that wasn't the reason) while fiddling on both ends. Went to the 'hotspot' cafe where the problem continued. Then I realised that it wasn't ISP (thought, never trust a handsome guy) or my router, but something that is affecting both Mail application and browsers. Clients are breathing on my neck for artwork and I am stuck.
Could it be the latest security update? Could it be magic? Well, I don't believe in magic! Does anyone have a clue?
    Cheers,
    Dragan

forget about my last message, if you disable plugins you won't be able to see vids on youtube.
What I did is remove all the plugins that were not for video.
To erase plugins just open safari and be sure to enable plugins on the Preference tab.
So, after you've enabled plugins, Open Safari>Help>Installed plugins
This will show you all the plugins you have installed in your mac. Once you see the list:
    1. copy the name of the plugin file
    2. open a finder window
    3. paste the name of the plugin in the search box of the finder window
    4. delete the plugin
It worked for me, I think the culprit was either the Silverlight.plugin or the Quartz Composer.webplugin

  • Times out at point of download

    Hi.
Seem to be having same problem as others with iTunes.  Can browse offerings, but at point of download, request times out.  Happens on AppleTV and on iBook.  Attempting to watch movie.  When local device sends username/password, request times out.  It is NOT a problem with my login, local devices, or network.  It appears to be a problem accessing iTunes account files for authorization.  Thanks for any further confirmation or link to status of iTunes availability.

Additional info ... when time out occurs, the following error message appears:
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request.
    The network connection was lost.
There was an error in the iTunes Store.  Please try again later."

  • Can I change how long before a "time out"?

    Hi,
I have a hardware firewall that intercepts and scans all incoming POP traffic before letting it pass through.
We've found an issue with large attachments where Mail times out before the firewall has downloaded and scanned the attachment.
I can't find a Network or Mail preference to change the length of Mail's time out.
Anyone know how to do it?
    Thanks!

    Dual 2.5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I took a look at Tweak UI. It has my current hover time as 400ms.
    1) In my PS CS4, the hover time is about 1400 ms (I measured it), so I doubt that CS4 uses the setting displayed in Tweak UI.
    2) I tried changing the hover time in Tweak UI to 100ms. It made no difference in PS.
I have seen elsewhere on the web that in InDesign the user can set the hover time, implying that delay is inside the PS program also.
    Other ideas?
By the way, I am on XP SP3.

  • Sending an E-mail blast

I want to send an e-mail blast out to all of my clients but I don't want it to appear as spam. What I would like to happen is have each e-mail personalized with the recipients first name. Is mail able to do this without having to create 50 different e-mails?

No, but you may find an Automator workflow that will do that. Maybe a script. Do some google searches.

  • Trouble sending small MP3 files using firefox version of my AOL e-mail..times out and refuses to send. Works in Safari. Why?

    Hi petro_jemes,
Just a little claritification, you need to add the value to the variable "[string]$ou", and also change the language in the variable "$emailbody" in the function "Get-ADUserPasswordExpirationDate".
    I hope this helps.
