Sending from an alias - sbs2011

Hi
I have a client with SBS2011 and Exchange.
He obviously has his user account
[email protected] - however we have a security group that accepts emails external called
[email protected] - This is used for Accounts emailing so banks etc...
Up until now everything has been fine with him receiving those Accounts emails as part of his membership to the Accounts security group.
Now he wants to be able to email from [email protected] is there anyway to enable this easily? Obviously I know I could set him up another mailbox, and then set up send as permissions which would do this, but then
he'd have 2 mailboxes to view... is this the only way or is there another way to do this?
Thanks
Tris

Hi Tris,
you can try this as an alternative!
Create a distribution group and put the alias on the distribution group and configure it with send as permissions.
First we start with removing the alias we want to send as from the original mailbox.
Now we create a new distribution group, give it a logical name, I always give it the name of the email alias and set the alias as email address.
Then we add the original mailbox as only member.
Now we need to set the Send As permissions for the original mailbox ([email protected]) on the newly created distribution list. This cannot be done via the exchange management console, we have to use the exchange management shell.
This is the command syntax: Add-ADPermission “public folder name ” -ExtendedRights Send-As -user “Domain\Username”
Now you are able to send as [email protected] also with the [email protected] address.
We do this by using the From… field in outlook, add the alias in the from field when you want to send from the alias. When you don’t see the from field go to the options menu and choose Show From.
Best thing to do is click the From… button and select the alias distribution group from the address list.

Anil

  • Sending from an Alias in Mail 3.5?

How can I send from an Alias in Mail 3.5?
The "from" pop down menu doesn't list my 2 aliases? only my main .mac account
Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

As for what I think you are asking, re second paragraph, the answer is found in:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23485
Add the alias addresses in manually as you would always have done with those that were not .Mac.
You are correct that you cannot actually edit text wise, but you can activate or make an alias inactive, and add new ones in the online Preferences display, or enter full Name specifics -- that is what is meant in the preferences in Mail by "Edit".
You have installed the MobileMe panel into System Preferences, haven't you?

  • How can I change my Iphone default email send from an alias to the address I want?

My Iphone sends my emails "FROM" an alias address I have within my ISP email account. I don't want this alias to be used as the default send. It seems my IPad works fine as does my Imac and Macbook PRO. The Iphone is the only one that does this.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,

Open iTunes on your Mac, click "iTunes Store" on the upper right, then click "Account" on the middle right.  Sign in there.  That will make the signed in account the "primary".

  • Sending from iCloud alias in Mail

I started using iCloud today and registered several aliases for different purposes. I would like to be able to send messages from these aliases with Mail on my MacBook. When I compose a message, I can choose to send it from one of the aliases, but then when I press Send it will take ages and eventually ask me to choose a different server to send it from ("Cannot send the message using the server iCloud (iCloud)"). I tried adding my aliases this way (support.apple.com/kb/ta23485) but it didn't make a difference.
Incidentally, when I try sending a message from one of my aliases with my iPad, it does send the message from the actual alias, however the name is displayed as my Apple ID name, not as the name I gave the alias....
Are these just temporary glitches? Or is there something in the settings I'm missing?

Use the OTHER option instead of iCloud or MobileMe. Use the alias as the email address.  Incoming mail server is mail.me.com. User name and password is your primary acct name. Outgoing server is smtp.mail.com.

  • How to alter my display name when sending from an alias?

When sending emails from my iphone, using an alias, I've noticed that it sends it using my real name. This defeats the purpose of using an alias!
When I send it from my Mac using the mail app, or from icloud on the web, it uses the name I've designated for the alias, but this is not the case on my phone.
How can I get the mail app on my iphone to use the display name I've designated for the alias?

Just go to icloud.com and click the gear in the top right corner (Preferences). Then go to the "accounts" tab and click on the alias you are trying to use and then when it comes up, insert the name you would like to use. If there's any more questions you have, just reply.

  • Sending From Mail Alias

    Hi,
Is there a way to allow a user to send using a different From address than his primary?
I've followed various examples for Exchange 2003 and haven't been able to do it. We are planning to migrate to 2010 later this year and I'm wondering if anyone has done this with Exchange 2010.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
By default you cannot do that.
You will have to go for a third-party or custom application that lets you use secondary addresses as the authoritative From address for outgoing messages. Products such as Ivasoft’s ChooseFrom (http://www.ivasoft.biz/choosefrom2007.shtml) is good in this regard.
There is also  a workaround to this problem which is mentoned here Using Secondary Email Address to Send Emails in Exchange 2007

  • Send from Gmail alias in Mail.app in iOS 7?

I have a Gmail account with several email accounts that forward into it. I've configured Gmail on the web so that I can send email from those accounts.
I just set up this Gmail account in Mail.app in iOS7 on my iPad.
In Gmail on the web, if I receive an email to one of the accounts that forwards into this Gmail account, and click "reply", it will automatically send use that account as the "from" address (rather than the Gmail account).
Is there any way to specify this as a preference in Mail.app on the iPad? Otherwise I have to remember to manually change the "from" address when I reply to an email sent to any of the accounts that forward to my Gmail account.

I've not heard of or experience any such issue.
Have you tried removing and readding the accounts in question?

  • Sending from iCloud alias on iPad

    Hi All,
I can send using my aliases on the OS X mail, iCloud.com and my iPhone but I can't seem to get the aliases to show up on my iPad. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, a link to where I can find out more.

Use the OTHER option instead of iCloud or MobileMe. Use the alias as the email address.  Incoming mail server is mail.me.com. User name and password is your primary acct name. Outgoing server is smtp.mail.com.

  • How to send from an email alias in Outlook?

    Hi,
We have created several email alias for some partner teams here in the UK but shared with Romania (i.e [email protected]). We have approval for them to work externally and this seems to be working fine.
The question is how to send from this alias in beehive/outlook? In Thunderbird it is possible to do this via Tools > Account Settings > Manage Identities
Have briefly searched these forums but cannot find anything so any suggestions appreciated.
    Regards,
    Rich W.

    Rich,
If this is a generic account then it should have a login to the system involved and Thunderbird allows the identity swap on the fly - To get Outlook to do this you would have to set up a new Profile in the Windows Mail app in the control panel and then close Outlook and re-open it with the new profile. Outlook unfortunately has no simultaneous access to different accounts - it is a single stream app (Microsoft decided on this approach, not us, so we have no control).
Sorry, I can't be more help.

  • Allow sending from alias

I have been a .mac .me and now .icloud user on my home computer and now on my iphone 4. I have several aliases that I use for different occasions. I was always able to send mail using an alias as my sending address. On the iphone there is a system preference that allows sending from an alias. I have several checked off, however, when I try to use one I get an error message: "Address rejected by server".
The aliases appear on my icloud account preferences when I go to my icloud homepage, but it doesn't let me send using an alias address on my computer either.
thanks in advance for any information that would help.

    Ernie,
You beat me to the punch... I was just about to reply with a follow-up asking if there was a way to do just that. Looks like I may need to use the separate accounts option in order to allow my to have Full Name information that is more helpful. For now, it won't be a problem because I only need 2 different addresses. If that changes in the future, however, I can see how it would be a problem.
It would be simple if I could add a comma-separated list of Full Names in the Full Name field (in the same order as the list of addresses) and have them match up.
Hmmm... might have to try that, just to see if it would work!
    Thanks again.

  • Sending from a MobileMe alias on iPad?

Hi, I want to know if its possible to send email from iPad using an alias you can create on MobileMe?
ie, on MobileMe web interface you can go into settings and create any @me.com address, and then it's available in to use in the 'from' field when you compose an email.
So it's not a case of adding a whole new MobileMe account into the iPad, it's sending from an alias in my current, main profile.
Is it possible to do this on iPad? I'm guessing in typical Apple style it isn't...

    Wolf Thandoy wrote:
Reason is, Michael, unless the alias accounts are created, the alias 'from' address does not appear in my pick list
And yet, neither I nor the many others doing it this way have created any sort of an account for the aliases but are nevertheless able to use them is exactly the way described.
However with two aliases (plus the actual account), the iPad is now receiving three copies of everything to my .mac address?!
This should not surprise you — you have set things up to receive the same message to three different accounts.
Now I'm lost. If I switch off synchronisation of email for the alias account(s), I again lose the ability to send mail from it. Drat. I know there is a way. There must be a way. Next?
Sorry, but Next must be Last. I can't think of anything else to be done on the iPad itself. Externally, and just working from memory here, I'm fairly sure that MobileMe itself would have to be set up so that the desired aliases are active, and in iTunes I think you may have to use the option to sync over all mail accounts and settings or whatever looks similar to that.
In any event, it's something which merely happens. Keep working at it and you'll get there. Start by getting rid of the two extra accounts.

  • Cannot send an email from my alias Mobile Me account from the iPhone.

I have a Mobile Me email account which works perfectly on my Mac and iPhone. I created a an Alias Mobile Me Account on the web.
I am able to create a new email from the alias account on the Mac.
The iPhone will not recognize the alias account, I cannot add it or sync the account.
I cannot send an email from my alias Mobile Me account from the iPhone.

To all frustrated MobileMe alias owners who want to send email from iPhone - please go to the feedback area of the apple.com and leave messages regarding this issue. I had a lengthy conversation with a tech support guy who agreed that this is a needed fix - he said to initiate a grass roots effort - and that by all of us leaving messages it will eventually get attention and fixed. Why would Apple give us the ability to create alias's, use them on mobileme website, on our mac mail programs, but NOT the iPhone, which is the MOBILE device. Silly. Please protest!! Thanks.

  • Can't send email from .Mac alias address

I have been using an email alias with a .mac account ever since aliases were enabled.
I am able to get mail sent to that address, but there is no way I can send mail from it. Its not an option in Mail apps "From" list. Even when I reply to an email send to the alias, when I reply to it, the From address defaults to my main .mac email address.
When I go to icloud.com, I see the correct alias is listed there.
I did a search here but didnt find an answer. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Try deleting the email account in Mail's Accounts preference pane
and then add it back. That will automatically enter the correct server addresses.

  • Alias address from iCloud alias address cannot be used to send mails via iPad

Alias address from iCloud alias address cannot be used to send mails via iPad

If you still have this concern: You can only use the alias address linked to the main iCloud account that you backup your iPad to. You can check that going to Setting-iCloud and check the Account email address.
I think this restriction is rather rediculous. I don't see why we can't configure an alias from a different iCloud account the same way we do for a Gmail account. I hope Apple fixes this in iOS 6.

  • TS2823 How do you setup an email alias to send from?

I have a domain alias on my phone that I would like to send from but I cannot find the option to do so. For example
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
I cannot send from the domain2.com email address (alias)

You should be able to access it from Safari on your MacBook, or another computer.
You can only access it on an iOS device if you use an altrenative browser like iCabMobile Web Browser, and set the Browser ID in the app's settings to Safari (Mac).
