Sending from LR4 to Photoshop CS3?

Anyone have an idea how to get these two to work together?  The help file specifically mentions CS3 working with it and even mentions that CS3 will use ACR 4.6.  When I tell LR4 to open a RAW file produced by my Canon XSi in Photoshop, I get a message that "this version of LR may require camera raw 7.0 for full compatibility".  Then I can choose "render using lightroom", "open anyway", or "cancel".  If I choose "open anyway" it opens up Photoshop but nothing else happens.  Eventually after a few minutes LR4 starts telling me it couldn't open Photoshop (even though it "magically" opened it a few minutes earlier) and when I click off that error, it comes up again, then a new error saying it couldn't send the file to Photoshop.  After clicking away that message it then proceeds to make a copy of the file as a .psd (which I did set up in the LR4 preferences for external editor) and it opens up.  This is really confusing since as I said the Help file for LR4 says the following.......
In the Library module or Develop module, select the photo you want to edit. Then, choose Photo > Edit In Adobe Photoshop.
If you’re opening a camera raw or DNG file in Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1) or later, it opens directly.

Thanks Hal.  I guess the confusing part is I thought it was going to just automatically create the PSD file and send it over so I was really confused on why I was even getting a dialog in the first place.
I might just have to jump to PS Elements 10 or something if I want more compatibility later on.  I can't just update my CS3 version of photoshop because it's part of the Web Suite that I bought for dirt cheap while in school and that means I have to update to suite at about $900 or just flat out buy Photoshop on its own for $700.  I guess with Elements getting layers from what I saw, it might be a good choice for me.

  • Opening from LR4 into Photoshop

Is anyone else suddenly having issues with opening an adjusted image from LR4 into Photoshop, and the adjustments not showing up?  Never had this problem, even in beta versions. I have checked "open in Photoshop with LR adjustments. Been using Lightroom since the original beta.

I believe there is a problem until a Photoshop update occurs. I make changes in LR
command E" to import to Photoshop when the dialogue box appears with this option "Render Using Lightrom" I choose it. It brings LR edited Photos inot PS with your changes.
Hope this works and I got it right, works for me.

  • Exporting from Aperture to Photoshop CS3- file format

If I have my files in raw CR2 format in Aperture 2.1 and I then go to the edit the image in photoshop CS3 will it remain in the raw CR2 format or does it convert it to a tiff file automatically?
Currently I have PS CS2 and it converts to a tiff file when I go edit in photoshop however I thought this may be beacuse PS CS2 does not support raw files from my Canon 40D, PS CS3 does though.
Incidently the same thing happens when I use the dodge and burn tool in Aperture 2, it conversts to Tiff format.

"Will there ever" is a loaded question Apple rarely comments on future product releases, and anyone that would know wouldn't be able to comment.
So it's not possible to say if future dodge & burn (or other plugins) can work without rendering a TIFF file.
As far as "multiple file formats" though -- it shouldn't really be something you need to worry about (other than the fact that the TIFF takes up some disk space). You can export to JPEG from the original or the version, and Aperture will track the files together.

  • Flash 10 stops OnOne Software Plugin Photoframe 4 from installing in Photoshop CS3

I just went thru a hard drive crash. Just before that I purchased the OnOne Software Plugin PhotoFrame 4 Professional and installed it into my Photoshop CS3 and it worked fine.
After the crash I had to have my corrupted raid drives (due to the controller going out) removed, and an IDE drive installed for the operating system.  The operating system was installed to the latest patch of Windows XP, SP3.  Adobe Flash 10 was also installed.  After I got the computer back from the shop and began reinstalling my software, and installed Photoshop CS3 and the PhotoFrame plugin, the plugin shows on a OneSoft pull down menu, but is grayed out.  After researching the problem, it looks like the problem is Adobe Flash 10.  I would like to go back to Flash 9, and tried downloading it from the Adobe site, but it is confusing with all the files you get and I'm afraid to install one, not knowing for sure which one would be the correct one.  Is there any place where I can just simply download Flash 9 like it used to be on the Adobe site, as I am pretty sure that will fix my problem.

    Hi Guys,
Ive got the same problems as you, Win XP SP2 on RAID 1 hard disk set on an AMD raid controller, but I have no driver to roll-back to.
Ive installed Photoshop CS3 and also Acrobat Standard 8 (which used to run fine on an old system), but all i get now is the blank window with the menu and title bar and thats all.
Can some one help?  (will this licensing patch resolve the issue - and where can i get it from?)
    Thanks

  • Problems with editing images from Lightroom to Photoshop CS3

I just installed Lightroom onto my new MacBook Pro and just installed a new version of Photoshop CS3. When I hit the "Edit image in Photoshop CS3" button in Lightroom it won't open Photoshop and therefore won't let me edit the image in CS3. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Any info would be helpful.

I'm running Lightroom and Photoshop CS3. "Edit image in Photoshop CS3" works fine for me. I'm on an iMac and had Lightroom installed first, only thing I noticed is it takes PS a little longer to open up.

  • Pixelated Smart Object import from Illustrator to Photoshop ( CS3 )

For years everything was glorious when I imported graphics from Illustrator to Photoshop.... And now all of a sudden, every time I import/paste into photoshop it is horribly pixelated. The only way I can solve this problem is to save in illustrator as an eps and then open the document in photoshop (boo).
Have I changed some preference on accident?
Thanks for your time with this, and if this has already been answered I apologize I searched prior to posting,

  • Problem in moving files from LR4 to Photoshop CS5

I have recently upgraded from LR3 to LR4. I have not changed my workflow between LR and PS. However, when I try and open a file I'm working on in LR4 in PS using "Command + E", a dialogue box appears stating "The version of LR may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 7 for full compatability. Please use the Camera Raw Plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop menu".
However, when I check for updates using the PS update tool, I am told all my software is up to date!?
I have gone onto the Adobe site to check the current version of CR and do not see Version 7?
if I move the file from LR to PS regardless of the above, the image rendered bears no similarity to the adjustments already made in LR.
    I would appreciate any ideas.
    Thx, Denis

  • From FCP to Photoshop CS3 Ext. and back

I want to use an adjustment layer in PS on a clip from my timeline. What's the best way to get it out of FC in a useable form, then pop it back in when done?
    Thanks!
    dc

For output, I would spit out a reference movie. PS seems to open them fine. That way there is no extra compression going out. So, in FCP, go to File > Export > Quicktime Movie. In the resulting pop-up window, make sure "Make Movie Self-Contained" is not checked. Now you have a reference to your original media without transcoding and taking a quality hit. PS should open this movie up fine - does for me, using a ProRes HQ reference movie.
Then, coming back out of PS, I'd just use the setting that matches the destination sequence in FCP.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 Will Not Install PLEASE HELP TRIED EVERYTHING

I downloaded from Adobe the Photoshop CS3 Extended Trial directly from Adobe. (BTW I am on Vista 32)
The first time I tried installing, ADBEPHSPCS3_WWE.exe successfully unpacked, I successfully transitioned to the Adobe Photoshop CS3 installation, and it appeared to install. After 30 minutes or so, the installer finished and simply said that shared components had installed but the Photoshop CS3 Component install failed.
I always got in the log Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC,version="8.0.50727.163",type="win32",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18 e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information
This, I know, is everyones typical problem.
I turned off firewall and antivirus.
I uninstalled ALL Adobe and Macromedia programs, including Flash and Acrobat.
I used Windows Install Cleanup Utility to remove them.
I downloaded the CS3 Clear from Adobe and cleared at levels 1, 2, and 3.
I created the Administrator account on my computer and tried everything on the Administrator account.
I tried installing Photoshop CS3 with compatibility mode for XP SP2.
    I tried:
    1. Open an Administrator command prompt by right clicking on Start -> All
Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt and selecting "Run as
Administrator" and clicking "Allow" for the elevation prompt
    2. In the command prompt, type the command below
    fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\
    3. Reboot the machine
    I tried:
Get command prompt up. It has to be run with admin rights so save yourself some time and run it this way.........Start/programs/accessories/.....right click command prompt and click run as administrator.
Then paste these commands in 1 after the other
    regsvr32 vbscript.dll (THEN PRESS ENTER)
    and
    regsvr32 jscript.dll (AGAIN PRESS ENTER)
I even tried installing in Safe Mode but the CS3 setup would not initialize.
I do not know what else to do. I have CS2 which I will use, but I was really hoping to move to CS3 which is supposed to be better and faster. Does anyone know anything else to do? I am not a computer noob but I am not about to reinstall Vista. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I was in the same predicament and after spend many hours over several days trying a multitude of things I finally found an easy fix (below):
    ========================================
Assuming you have Internet Explorer 7 go to:
    Tools/Internet option/Advanced
Click the Reset dialog box. This will bring IE7 back to its default settings. You should reboot your computer. After logging back into Windows load IE and let it take you though its initial setup. When you are done close IE and install Photoshop.. This worked for me,,, hopefully it will work for you!

  • Clipping in Photoshop CS3 rendered Differently in Lightroom 1.4.1

I called Adobe Tech Support in an attempt to get an answer to my question about why Lightroom (version 1.4.1) seems to show more clipping of an image than viewing clipping of the same image in Photoshop CS3 by using a curves adjustment (show clipping box checked). They did not give me a reasonable answer.
I typically import my images into Lightroom, then make adjustments there, export to CS3 as 16-bit tiffs in ProPhoto RGB Colorspace, then make further color and contrast adjustments in Photoshop. My monitor is calibrated using a Colorvision Spyder2. Color management settings in Photoshop are as follows: ProPhoto RGB Colorspace, US Web Coated (SWOP) v 2, Gray Dot Gain 20%, Spot Dot Gain 20%, Color Management Policies are to preserve embedded profiles for RGB, CMYK, and Gray, profile mismatches are to ask when opening and when pasting, and to ask when opening images with missing profiles; Conversion options are Engine Adobe (ACE), Intent Relative Colormetric, Use Black Point Compensation checked, Use Dither (8-bit/channel images). There are no items checked under advanced controls.
I view proof setup using the same paper profile in CS3 and the print module of Lightroom (perceptual intent, black point compensation checked, simulate paper color and simulate black ink options are unchecked unless being viewed full screen) Sometimes I also use the rendering intent of relative colormetric with black point compensation checked. I am seeing evidence of more clipping almost always in Lightroom (Develop and Library Modules both) than in Photoshop CS3. I understand that the Library Module uses Adobe RGB colorspace rather than ProPhoto, but I still see more clipping in the Develop Module view of the same tiff than its clipping representation in Photoshop CS3. There is a substantial difference (not a small one) in the amount of clipping shown.
I understand that Lightroom Develop Module is using a Perceptual intent and that the default option in Photoshop is absolute colormetric, but I still do not think this completely explains the problem, especially since I have the soft proofing set up to use perceptual intent most often. By the way, I never check the box for preserve RGB numbers.
Can anyone explain why the difference in clipping shown and which one should be taken as more accurate: Lightroom clipping rendering or Photoshop CS3 clipping rendering?
Please note that I ultimately export the final images as jpegs (8-bit) in srgb colorspace before posting on the web. These photos are ultimately ordered from an online printer (usually from Mpix).
Thanks for any help you can give me. Best wishes.
    Bob

    Hi,
Thanks for your responses. In answer to Jao's questions:
Yes, I turn on the clipping warnings in Lighroom (shortcut j). I am viewing a 16-bit tiff in ProPhoto RGB (that has made the "round trip" from Lightroom to Photoshop CS3 and back again to Lightroom) in Lightroom using the clipping warnings. The clipping shown in CS3 using the adjustment, curves, show clippings are much less than what is shown using the clipping warnings of the same 16-bit tiff in Lightroom.
My workflow is to import Canon Raw (using sRGB, rather than Adobe RGB) into Lightroom. Make color, sharpening, tone, ect. adjustments in Lightroom, then export to Photoshop CS3 as a 16-bit tiff in ProPhoto RGB colorspace. I make additional adjustments to color, tone, skin tones, noise, touchup, sharpening, ect. and then save the file. It reappears again in Lightroom. When I have the clipping warnings on (shortcut j), this tiff appears to have considerably more clipping than on a curves layer showing clipping in Photoshop. Ultimately, I then export these same photos as jpeg (8-bit)in srgb and post to the web where they can be ordered from an online printing service such as Mpix.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • Lightroom 1.1 - Adobe Camera RAW 4.1 (Bridge, Photoshop CS3) problem

    Dear all,
I am having some problems with the appearance of files developed in adobe lightroom 1.1 or in adobe camera raw 4.1 from e.g. bridge or photoshop cs3. When developing in lightroom the images look great, however when using acr 4.1 and the same xmp sidecar settings imported from lightroom, the image in acr looks very pale in comparison. For example when using the export into photoshop option in Lightroom, the image in PS3 looks very pale to the one in lightroom. The same problem persists with developing using ACR 4.1 from bridge. I have turned autotoning in ACR off. Also in the color management of PS CS3, the desaturate checkbox is UNchecked.
I am using an icc profile for my 30" cinema display, calibrated with colory eyes pro and a spyder2.
Has anybody had similar problems with ACR 4.1 or am I just doing something horribly simple wrong?
    Thanks for your help!
    Immanuel

    Thomas,
thanks for your reply. In Mac OS X Preview the images look all good and very much like what I see in Lightroom. In any case not as pale or like with a slight white overcast to what I see when using ACR 4.1 from Bridge or Photoshop CS3. In PS color settings, preserving embedded profiles is checked. Yes, it seems to me as well that this is some color management issue. The 30" Cinema display was calibrated using Color Eyes Pro and Spyder2 to Gamma 2.2 and 6500 temp. However, even when reverting to the standard Apple color profile for the monitor, the problem persists.
    No luck so far...

  • Photoshop CS3  - error console warning on opening

Hi, I am working on a Mac book pro. I have recently noticed a warning message coming up on console messages when I open Photoshop, or indeed any of my adobe programmes. Part of the message that shows is detailed below. Please can anybody advise what is causing this. Have the programmes been corrupted in some way? Is Class EpicController part of the software? the message then repeats with Class EpicJSWindowExternalHandler and Class EpicWizardController
    12/03/2009 09:20:47 [0x0-0x1d01d].com.adobe.Photoshop[151] objc[151]: Class EpicController is implemented in both /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Adobe Photoshop CS3.app/Contents/Frameworks/adobe_personalization.framework/adobe_personalization and /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Adobe Photoshop CS3.app/Contents/Frameworks/adobe_registration.framework/adobe_registration. Using implementation from /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Adobe Photoshop CS3.app/Contents/Frameworks/adobe_registration.framework/adobe_registration.
Any help with this, gratefully received - Thanks

    Someone else reported this recently.
It is apparently a false message (caused by an error in OSX) and can safely be ignored.

  • Photoshop CS3 doesn't open or error occurs, when you Edit in Photoshop CS3 from Photoshop Lightroom 2

Problem: When you try to Edit in Photoshop CS3 from Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2, Photoshop CS3 doesn't open, or after Photoshop opens, you see the error message, "Photoshop could not be launched".
This issue is currently being investigated. At present, there are two possible areas that might be causing this issue. Corrupted metadata or a corrupted catalog, or Photoshop CS3 has not been updated to 10.0.1, or the update did not apply correctly to the application.
We are working for a permanent solution for this issue.
Workaround: Please refer to this Adobe
    TechNote for further information.
