Sending from server A using account on SMTP server B

I'm currently writing a web-based e-mail application, for which I would like to have POP3 and SMTP capability. I have the POP3 section working - that's not a problem.
The question I have has to do with SMTP. What I would LIKE to have users do it define an 'account' with my application that would allow them to use their ISP's e-mail account settings to send mail through my application on my hosting service's servers.
Is this possible? I'm getting "Connection refused" messages, and I'm now beginning to wonder how or if I'll be able to do this. If I CAN'T do this, then how do applications like Outlook do it? How about other web-based e-mail like Yahoo! Mail?

you probebly get relaying problems. security issue you shouldn't be able to get around it.

    Hello, gypsyro.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would check to make sure the default account in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars is set to your personal Gmail account.  Test send another message after making the change.

  • Mail will not send from iPhone on .Mac Account!

This is weird. From my .Mac account when I try to send an email message, I get the "Cannot Access Outgoing Mail Server", whereas if I set up a Gmail account on the same phone, it sends just fine.
I've deleted and re-created the account, restored, updated, software, and all the above again, been to the Genius Bar -- yet remain stymied. Is there some simple solution I've overlooked?

Your problem is with Cox and Cox not having an authenticated SMTP server.
Not many ISPs provide an authenticated SMTP server and I'm not sure why - especially with laptops and devices such as the iPhone so popular.
I'm a Time Warner/RoadRunner customer for cable and internet access and I quit using my RR email account several years ago for this very reason. I switched to using my .Mac account as my primary personal email account which has an authenticated SMTP server. I'm able to send messages with the account regardless the internet service provider used for internet access. My business POP account also has an authenticated SMTP server and no problems sending with this account either - via a number of different Wi-Fi connections and EDGE.
I suggest seriously considering switching to another email account. A Gmail account is free, can be accessed as a POP or IMAP account with the email client on your computer as well as with the iPhone's email client, has a good spam filter at the incoming mail server, and has an authenticated SMTP server.
If you ever move or decide to change your ISP from Cox to a different ISP, your email account and address will not need to change. You can access and send messages with a Gmail account with any ISP - the same with a .Mac account. And you'll have much more server storage space than Cox provides.

  • Want same sender (From field) with different accounts

I've got 3 different mail accounts.
Now when i reply to a mail, Mail uses that email adress as sender that corresponds to that account.
However, i would like to have the same sender email adress (the 'From:' field) with all of my email, no matter which account i received them through.
    [Thunderbird does that.]
    Is that possible?
    Best regards,
    Gabriel.

Go to Mail's preferences -> Composing & change the popup choice for "Send new Mail from:" in the "Addressing:" section from "Account of last viewed mailbox" to the specific sender you want to use.
Does that do what you want?
Note: you can also change the sender on a message-by-message basis with the popup next to the "Account:" section in new or draft mail.
This changes the actual account the messages are sent from. If you just want replies to go to that address, use the "Reply to" field in new or draft messages.

  • Mail and AOL cant send from 1 of 3 accounts

I have 3 AOL screen names and have been using them with OSX mail for years. Now, one of the accounts refuses to send email.
    I get:
"cannot send email using the server smpt.aol.com"
My other 2 account use the same server and no problem.
I completely trashed my old OSX mail and reinstalled...even dumped the preferences so it started from scratch and still the same problem. If I run the AOL application I can send all day but I really want to use OSX mail.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks, Michael

    Hi PrintGuy!
After you started from scratch, did you reconfigure the settings in Apple Mail for AOL?
This is a handy utility AOL Services Assistant, that does it automatically.

  • Initiative message sending from server to MIDP client.

    Hi, guys,
I wanna build a c/s application using CLDC and MIDP, the problem is the expected system should have a capability of making server and client could communicate in demand, i.e. let either server or client send initiative messages to the opposite side.
But currently, HTTP support couldn't match such requirement, so anybody could raise a good idea?
    Thanks a lot!

    [xiaxing],
You might find this feature that you are looking for in the next MIDP 2.0 specification when it supports "Push Architecture". This feature allows the MIDlet to request the handset to listen for certain data or connections and launch the MIDlet or give it connection when listener receives the correct data or connection.
You can access the details of the JSR for the MIDP 2.0 specification from:

  • Email sending from GMAIL regardless of account chosen (4s)

I manage multiple email accounts on my Iphone 4s.
A personal email (my own domain), my work email, and a gmail account that I use for my Google calendar
Regardless of which account i send emails from or reply to an email from - it sends it from my Gmail account. Does anyone know how to resolve thisv
Its frustrating, because I've worked hard consolidating emails and making sure everyone has the correct email address.
Now everyone emails me at my GMAIL account - regardless of personal or work
    Someone please help..
The guy at the verizon store said it's a known issue....but there's got to be a fix...i'm imagining people out there managing way more email accounts than i do
    Thanks

Any resolution to this, or are you and I the only 2 people with this problem?

  • Can Siri send from secondary e-mail account?

I have two e-mail accounts. I haven't been able to figure out how to send an e-mail from my secondary account instead of from my default e-mail account.
Does anybody know how to do this? Or if it just isn't a feature yet?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I haven't discovered any new information. I suspect you can't yet change accounts. Hopefully in the future you'll be able to tell Siri to send an e-mail from "my personal account" or something like that.
"Siri, my personal e-mail account is the one with [email protected] as the e-mail address"
"Siri, send an e-mail from my personal account"

I HAD two accounts because of this problem.  I completely removed the problem account from the Apple Mail client.  Guess what is happening??  That's right - Mail is still sending from the other account that no longer exists on my computer, and I have absolutely no idea how this is happening.  This is incredibly frustrating.  When a recipient chooses to reply to my message, quite often I won't get it now because it is going to the other account that has now been deleted from my system.  COME ON APPLE!!! WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THIS???

  • Cannot send email from Mail through .mac account

I have recently opened a .mac account and started using the email service. It works fine online however I am having difficulty sending messages through the Mail application in Tiger.
Whenever I attempt to send a message, a dialog box appears saying "Cannot send message using the server smtp.mac.com".
I have tried looking at the setting in preferences. I have deleted and .mac a/c setting in Mail and re-set them up, all the problem persists.
    Please help!

    Hello David.
Who is your ISP used for connecting to the internet and are you accessing an email account snd SMTP server in Mail provided by your ISP?
If so, can you send messages with the email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP?
Most, if not all ISPs now block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP used for connecting to the internet) on Port 25 which is the standard port used for SMTP servers. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only (such as the .Mac SMTP server) that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
These restrictions are part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
    Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
Test if this resolves the problem.
If not and you are accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail that is provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account which is invisible to all recipients.

  • Mail 4.1 incorrect "sending from" settings, won't send SMTP mail

I've noted quite a few others reporting 10.6.1 SMTP mail problems, but I haven't seen my specific issue noted elsewhere.
I've been able to send using my IMAP AOL address via Mail and longtime SMTP settings until today. Now, Mail apparently is scrambling outgoing email addresses and mismatching them with the outgoing SMTP settings. For instance:
Using AOL address example [email protected] (showing correctly in the "From" window), the email will not send. The "cannot sent message using the server 'LG'..." dialogue comes up with the options to edit the SMTP server list or use the Connection Doctor. (All Connection Doctor reports coming back green, so the trouble's not there.)
Looking a little closer at the dialogue box, though, it says Mail thinks the outgoing message is being sent from an entirely separate email address. In a couple of tests, the incorrect "sending from" address changes - one time it was a different AOL account, the next was an entirely separate .edu account. Wish I could attach a screenshot, but the bottomline is: I can see the "From" field showing the [email protected] address, but the error message about reconciling the outgoing server settings shows "Sending from: My Name <[email protected]>"
Whatever the issue is, it is apparently not affecting (so far) my IMAP personal domain or IMAP gmail accounts - they're both sending and receiving normally.
So Mail apparently is trying to send AOL account mail, but it's not finding the correct SMTP connection because somewhere along the way it's shifted the "sending from" to a different account.
    Any thoughts?

I've been using Mail app with AOL accounts and the current settings for years with no trouble. This is new.
I still think it's a Mail app issue - it's clearly showing in the error message a different "Sending from" account from the one that's actually selected and showing in the "From" window of the email message. It's as though Mail is trying to apply the existing SMTP settings for an erroneous account to the outgoing message. It's either trying to send [email protected] mail with YY.aol.com SMTP settings or vice versa.
I'd be open to re-creating the AOL IMPAP accounts if I could avoid losing years worth of sent and received messages. I have everything backed up with Time Machine, but I've had very erratic email recovery issues with it since Snow Leopard too.

  • Mail Won't Send from Account Selected

Having a real problem with Apple Mail. When using the From: account dropdown menu to select an account different from the default one, I expect that the recipient will receive the email as coming from that account. However, I just learned today that ALL email I send from Mail is using only the default account and completely ignoring whatever account I selected in the From: dropdown.
I also tried setting "Send new messages from:" to "Account Mailbox" in Mail Preferences, but, made no difference.
The exact same problem is happening on my partner's Macbook, who's running the same OS version I am: 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks!
    Tom

I am also having the same problem that just started this morning. The mail is using my smtp server e-mail account from my serverice provider (Bell Canada) for all outgoing mail as the "From" and totally disregarding whatever e-mail account I select to send from. As I have 14 different e-mail accounts for different work activities, it is just not acceptable.
At first I thought it may be a problem with my service provider, but after 2 hours on the phone testing it with them, it is obvioulsy a system problem and not a server one. was there an update that changed something with the mail program??
I am also 24" iMac with 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running Mac OS X 10.6.8
