Sending Garageband files to other Mac's?

Hi guys,
i've created a track and want to send it to my friend whos a singer so he can put the vocals down. if i just select the garageband file and send it will this include all the individual tracks too? should i also .zip it or compress it before i send? or will that effect the file when its opened again?
also can you do this or will the files be protected? :S

As Hangtime suggests, copy protection shouldn't be a problem.
The only two things I can think of that might be an issue are 1) if you have different versions of GB and they turn out to be incompatible, or 2) when GB saves your file, if it doesn't include all data. For example, perhaps a loop exists on your computer that a GB file points to but doesn't actually include, and that loop may not be on your friend's computer. However, I'm not really sure how GB saves projects, so this is pure speculation and may not be a problem at all. The simplest way to find out is probably just to go ahead and do it... send the file to yourself to confirm that at least that works, and then send it to your friend and hopefully there won't be a problem!

  • I want to send garageband files to other macs?

I have a macbook pro mid 12' and an iMac mid 11', I want to send a gargeband file to my friend who has a mac himself, but all of the info that I can find says to control click the file and compress, or archive it, and I don't see that option. I think it's because I have a newer version of gargeband but I'm not sure.

    Two things:
Does your friend have the same JamPacks and loops installed as you? If not, save your project as an archive. This option will only appear with the "Save as" option, and only, if the project needs saving, because you edited a track. So edit something to force the "Archive Project" option to apear in the export panel.
Once the project has been exported, compress it: Select it in the Finder, ctrl-click it, and select "Compress xxxx.band"from the pop-up menu.
Then mail the compressed zip-file as attachment.
However, your compressed file might still be too large to mail it. If your project contains a lot of real instruments track in high audio quality the project will be easily too large to send it by mail. Then it would be preferrable to upload it to server (Dropbox or similar), so that your friend can download it.

  • Can I use Icloud to store and share other files, with other Mac users?

Hello, I was just wondering if I could use iCloud to store and share files with other Mac users over the internet? Thanks!

I would suggest re posting in the iCloud for Mac forum where all the people in here that are experts with that hang out.  Good luck.

  • Share automator file with other MAC users

I created an automator file to rename a group of files.
It works correctly in my MAC
If I transfer this file to other MAC users via DMG file will it work on their machines 10.6.8 and 10.7.5

It really depends on what actions are compatable to theirs. Can you upload a screen shot of your workflow?
I use Automator a lot and share with a lot of people with macs.

  • Getting waved-horizontal lines running through my photos...Happens not during time of working image in photoshop...but appears when sending to files or other applications, such as after printing back to files...?  Mac checked out OK.

Getting waved-horizontal lines in my imagery just after working in photoshop...sending to files as with after completing some applications, such as printing. Nothing is wrong with my Mac...Issue does not occur every time I go into using Photoshop?

Doesn't matter what kind of file...size, jpeg or tiff, black and white as color, etc...Something is in the software issue for my upgraded CS 5 Photoshop, running on a Mac OSX with Leopard version. The CS 5 Adobe software was in an up-grade from CS 3. Best I can do and I thank you for any suggestions based on your experienced background as I can only offer a general interpretation with the waved-horizontal lines that run across some of my images from being in the Photoshop mode from Bridge.

  • Unable to share files with other Macs after lion Upgrade

I am unable to share files other macs on my home network.
I receive an error message that the server will not allow additional users to log on.
I can connect to windows machines and can use mac screen sharing.

I have multiple machines with Lion installed (Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, 2.66 GHz Mac Mini & a late 2010 iMac) and several more runing Snow Leopard. I cannot make AFP connections to any Lion machine from any other machine, Lion or not. At the same time I can make Screen Sharing connections and several other types of connection to the Lion machines, and can make any type of connection (including AFP) from the Lion machines to the Snow Leopard machines.
After I enter my password, attempted AFP connections to Lion invariably draw the "This file server will not allow any additional users to log on" alert.
Yet the target Lion machine shows "Number of users connected 0". I don't know how to find the crash log, but no AFPFileServer process appears in the Activity Monitor's All Processes list on the 2 Lion machines I checked, so this might be the problem. I've tried repairing the file system & permissions, to no avail.
=> Spettinger's workaround - switching AFP off and SMB on - does indeed allow me to make file sharing connections to my Lion machines. Thanks spettinger!
But, how can this be? There is nothing unusual about my configuration: its all recent Apple hardware & system software, with no 3rd-party protocols & no hacking. Why doesn't everyone who shares files have this exact problem?

  • Opening iPhoto file from other Mac in order to extract images

My son got his first MacBook Pro trashed several months ago. He got another, but did not port his data from the iPhoto file backed up from his first MBP. Instead, he has an iPhoto file on his new MBP and has been adding pics and movies to it.
The problem is he has about 5GB of pics/movies in the old iPhoto file, and he wants to extract them and import them into his current iPhoto file. The old iPhoto file is on an external drive that he used for backup. My task is to get these images from the old iPhoto file for him.
I was hoping I could swap iPhoto files on my Mac, but that didn't seem to work.
How can we gain access to the images in the old iPhoto file?

The easiest way to do what you want is to use iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two Libraries.
Altenratively: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point it at the Library on the external. Export the pics from it (File -> Export) and import them to the new Library. Note: There is no way to get all the versions of the photos when you do this.

  • How do I create a screensaver from an mov file that other mac user can download? Is there free software or shareware available for this?

I have seen iScreensaver and PulpMotion and several others but I simply wish to convert an mov file to a screensaver that other mac can download. I haven't been able to come across a tutorial for this that works on Lion. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Does anybody know how to do this without iDVD?
You can't.  You MUST buy iDVD.
Tell Apple how you feel.  They do read these comments, and often react.  Be nice.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
(On the above link, you will notice under Mac apps they do indeed show, iDVD!)
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 on disk (don't get the download) for about $29. You WILL get iDVD.
or if you like downloads, go to the Apple Store via the Store button at the top, (not the App Store) and look for iLife 11 it will list iWeb and iDVD.  It IS available online.

  • Sharing files with other mac users on iCloud

May I share files I store on iCloud with other users?

If you want to try online sharing you might like to look at SugarSync:
    https://www.sugarsync.com/products/sync_sharing.html
    - this page says:
    Collaborate with shared folders
SugarSync keeps all your shared files up-to-date and in sync for powerful collaboration with your virtual team. With folder sharing, you can collaborate on projects by giving a person, or a group of people, access to a shared folder on your computer. No more wasting time emailing individual files and tracking the latest versions. Just send an email invitation to your clients, coworkers, or family members to join your folder.
Sync folders of information across teams
Folder members can sync a shared folder directly to their own computers. Any member of a shared folder can have their own copy of the folder on their own computer. Folder members can edit files locally. Updates are reflected for everyone as soon as the file is saved.
I've not tried this so you would need to investigate to see whether it suited your requirements.
There is also a new program, Cloud App, which makes sharing files simple: it runs as a background process and you just drag files to the menu bar icon. Storage is with Heroku and Amazon: it's free with a limit of 10 files per day, maximum 25MB per file, $45 per year for unlimited files, maximum 250MB per file.
Another possible option is YouSendIt. It provides the facility for you to upload files and send an email to a recipient telling them how to download it: and it's also possible with all but the free plan for others to upload a file for you. The free version allows you to send a maximum file size of 50MB with no upload by others: $9.99 per month gets you 2GB sized files in either direction, and there are upgraded plans.

  • Copying large files freezes other Macs on the network

    Hello everyone,
since we added a Mac Pro to our network, other clients sometimes hang and have to disconnect to a server (Xserve), when we copy large files (100MB and up) to that server with the Mac Pro.
Like the other G5's, the faster G4's and some PC servers, it is connected on gigabit speed.
Can someone help me to pinpoint this problem, or give me more information on finding the cause?
    Maybe this can be usefull:
We replaced the cable by a Cat6 UTP cable.
Slowing down to 100mbit did not solve the problem.
We could not reproduce the problem when connected directly to the Xserve (no switch or patch pannel, only the cat6 cable).
Many thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello,
yesterday, may boss, ordered some people to check the cabling and connections in our network.
They revealed several problems and advice to replace all cabling to cat6 or cat7.
Is the MP susceptible to network imperfections? Our other G5's never suffered from network flaws (now the ethernet cards are Intel instead of 'Apple' design...)
I did some other tests, and set the MTU to 750 instead of de default 1500. Without success.
I am trying to finde som info in the logfiles, but do not seam to find any details about the network problems. Where should I look? The system log, netinfo log is empty...
    Greetings,

  • Dreamweaver can't open files form other mac

    Hi,
i've got a problem with dreamweaver cs3 and opening a
html-file which is on an other (new) iMac. Dreamweaver sees the
file when browsing to it (after open...) but then says the file was
not found. When i double click the file dreamweaver crashes. I used
to work like this all the time, but the problem occured after we
changed the host-computer (from a g5 to an iMac). There is no
problem when i open and save documents on my own computer.
I also can't save to the other computer. Strangely enough it
will put a saved document on MY computer in a directory with the
same name (Documenten) as on the remote computer although i DO
navigate to the remote computer go into that directory and say
"save". But then the document ends up on my own computer... very
    spooky :-))
    anyone any thoughts??
    hope so!

as a random guess- does the hard drive name or a folder in
