Sending hotmail with mail

I just got my macbook a couple of days ago and am having trouble setting up my hotmail account with the mail program. I've had hotmail for a long time and have never had any trouble setting it up with outlook express. Here's my problem so far. I can get email to come in, but when I try to send an email, the program says my email address was " rejected by the server smtp.live.com." I have the outgoing server set to use the default ports and I have ssl set to on and authentication set to off. If I try to turn authentication to password, and enter my email address and password, it won't log onto the server at all.
Has anybody run into this before and found a solution?

It's been a long time since I've had to set things up so my information might be old, but when I bought my macbook, it wasn't possible to directly download hotmail into Mail. Of course you can do it with Outlook - they are the same company! The workaround I use is to forward my hotmail to my Gmail account, and set up Mail to accept Gmail, which is easy. I can use either Gmail or hotmail as my reply to address. There may be another way now, but this has worked well for me. Good luck!

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Unable to send pictures with mail from iPhoto

Since yesterday i cannot use iPhoto to send pictures with mail, it just does not open a new mesage in mail. can you help me please? have done cleaning tasks and repeired permissions already. thank you.

    Does anything happen?
Have you deleted the iPhoto Preference file - A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help

Hi, i am having the same problem. this is what i have noticed.
    I have 2 x imac's and 2 x macbook air's
i upgraded the 2 macbook air's and 1 of the imac's to Mountain Lion, all these have problems acessing sites that require you to login .
the one remaining imac is still running lion and works perfect.
i am using a dlink router with DD-WRT firmware, i tested teathering from my iphone and i can log into websites fine using the newly upgraded mac's.
It's not a wireless issue as my imac is using an ethernet connection.
is there a compatibility issue with some routers.

  • Getting: Unable to send attachment with Mail Drop

Mail Drop is not working for me, I always get error message while trying to send.
    Here is what happens:
-I compose a message that includes a large attachment
    -I click send
-I get the message "Unable to send attachment with Mail Drop" for a few seconds
-My message is not sent and it goes into the Outbox folder.
    Configuration:
    OS X 10.10 Yosemite
Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts -> Advanced. The option "Send large attachments with Mail Drop" is selected.

I had the exact same problem.  I finally figured out what was wrong.  I believe you must have iCloud Drive turned on in System Preferences AND you also must allow mail to store document in iCloud Drive which you can check by clicking the "Options..." button in the preference pane of iCloud Drive. As you can see below.

  • Cannot send Email with Mail since updated to 10.7.2, they stay in my Send Box...

Since I updated, I cannot send Email through Mail, it works with Thunderbird though.

Just FYI, I've had the same problem for months now. I have been accessing my hotmail via the web, but decided to try the OS X Mail app.  I could get emails into the account with no problem but couldn't send.  I read all the blog and support entries and have tried everything they recommended, like changing my computer name to one word, without success.  Then last night, it just so happened that my broadband provider had to change out my wireless modem.  As soon as he plugged in the new one, some emails that had been in my outbasket for a month went through instantly and all of a sudden my Mail, both incoming and outgoing now work.  So I think people need to look at their router settings for the a solution to the problem.

  • How do I use my iPhone's hot spot to send email with Mail ?

    Hi,
My land line is dead ... so no phone nor internet at home.  But I can use my iPhone'hot spot to get on the web from my iMac.  Great ... it works !
Oups !   I cannot send email from my computer using my iPhone's hot spot with Mail.
How do I do that ?
    Regards.

    Hi Templeton Peck,
Thanks for droping in my thread ...
Doesn't the fact that I can surf the web with my iPhone's hot spot and that I cannot use Mail normally has I normally do give you a clue what the problem could be ?
What other information can I give you other than normally I can surf and send email with my regular ISP.  Now that my ISP is dead I am using my iPhone's hotspot to surf the web awaiting that my ISP's connoection returns. Surfing is OK but I cannot send emails with through Mail.
When I want to send an email from my computer, I get a message asking me to select the the SMTP server.  Then I select my usual ISP server, but the message comes back telling me it does not work.
Is there any other configuration to do ?

  • I have a MacBook Air, OS 10.8.5 I am having trouble sending attachments with Mail. Even small (130K) files don't go. It tries to send then gives up. What can I do to fix this?

I am having trouble send messages with attachments in Mail. Even small attachments (130K) Mail tries to send, then gives up and the message sits in my out box. How can I fix this?

    1. You need an external DVD drive.
    2. There are no Mac OS X applications or other software in the iTunes App Store.

Your message couldn't be sent because a server error occurred. To send this message, please delete the current attachment, then re-attach.

Toad replyed try zip file (compress) I did and still got the same message

Many mail servers cap their message sending or receiving at 4MB.  If you are sending your own work that you want distributed by someone else, check with your internet provider if they can temporarily raise that restriction and the recipient's mail server can temporarily raise those restrictions.   Better would be for both of you to be able to access a webhosting site to share the material and use some FTP programs to send the file to each other.    If it is an MPEG-3 of a commercial CD's music, we can't help you as such distribution is illegal.

  • Problem using Hotmail with Mail

I recently installed leopard and configured a hotmail account to use with mail, but the problem is that every time I open Mail, it downloads all the emails from the account, and even if I delete them or mark them as read, the next time I open mail, they'll show up again, and it's very annoying. Any solution other than deleting all the emails on the hotmail account??
    Thanks

P.S. I just noticed another issue here: everytime I receive a message in my hotmail account, it shows up twice in Mail. The first problem is more important, but this one's annoying too..Any clue?

  • App Photos. Unable to send photos with Mail on ios8.

  • Is there a contextual menu plug-in to send files with Mail?

Anyone have any ideas if there exists a contextual menu plug-in that works between the Finder and Apple Mail which would allow you to email a file with a simple right-click.
Unfortunately to make a comparison with a PC, in the same way that you can select +Send To+ > +Mail Receipient+ via the contextual menu.

You can also make one yourself with Automator.
    With Automator (/Applications/Automator):
Select "Files & Folders" and set 'Get content from' to "Use files and folders selected in the Finder when workflow runs"
From the far-left panel, under Library, select "Mail".
Drag "New Mail Message" and drop it under "Get Selected Finder Items" shown on the far right panel
Select "Save as Plug-in" from the File menu. Give it a meaningful name.. "Send with Mail" should be OK. The plug-in type you want is "Finder"
The action is now available from the contextual menu: More -> Automator -> Send with Mail
    Have a nice day

  • Sending Pictures With Mail...Sending the Right Size Picture

I'm emailing pictures to an editor from iPhoto. They look fine when I send them. I send them using the actual size tab on mail. However when they get to her, she says they are only 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches even though they are 4X6 pictures when I send them. I don't get it. Anybody have any tips on what's up with this?

    Philip,
The compression could have been applied by iPhoto, but the very high resolution value (680) was probably set by your source.
Compression is the whole reason to use JPEG, and its greatest fault. To compress, the photo application uses an algorithm to analyze the photo by detail. If a photo had a large wall pictured that was all the same color, then the algorithm performs coding to say that this large area is all the same color and does not use separate pixels for each portion of the area. How small a file can result from the compression is dependent upon the variation of color and detail in the photo. The next photo app to open applies the reverse algorithm to decompress. This is also done in cameras that save their photos in JPEG on the memory card.
JPEG can be used once with fairly good results, but if a photo is changed and then compressed again to save as JPEG then it can lose quality and sharpness.
Resolution is strictly the number of pixels per square inch and how much detail can be recognized and preserved in the photo (uncompressed). When you send a JPEG version of a quality TIFF or PSD format folder (or from a RAW photo taken with a good camera), and specify actual size, what that means is that the resulting file will be as large when decompressed and contain just as many pixels as the original, but depending upon the amount of compression selected can be a much smaller file to attach and email.
I am still researching how you might select to send such photos in the future, but what you were sent may be the controlling factor.
Before getting Aperture, I primarily used ordinary folders to store my photos, and opened them with Photoshop or Graphic Converter (the latter having an excellent interface with Mail. My use of iPhoto was limited (and still is) to those situations where its very good interface with other Apple applications is needed. Thus I do not know nearly as much about iPhoto as I do about Photoshop, Aperture, and other photo applications. But I do know that iPhoto will maintain the original quality, but the issue you presented is related to presenting for an email and for exporting.
    More when I find it.
    Ernie
