Sending mail from local host

hi, i am running my application in tomcat.
if i specify a smtp host server name , could able to send a mail in same domain without using authenticator.
But i want to know without specifying a smtp server name, is it posstion to send email using "localhost" as the server.
Properties props = new Properties();
props.put("mail.transport.protocol", "smtps");
props.put("mail.smtp.host", smtpHost);
Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance( props);
MimeMessage message = new MimeMessage( session );
message.setFrom( new InternetAddress(aFromEmailAddr) );
message.addRecipient(
Message.RecipientType.TO, new InternetAddress(aToEmailAddr)
message.setSubject( aSubject );
Multipart multipart = new MimeMultipart();
BodyPart messageBodyPart = new MimeBodyPart();
messageBodyPart.setText(aBody);
multipart.addBodyPart(messageBodyPart);
MimeBodyPart attachmentBodyPart = new MimeBodyPart();
DataSource source = new FileDataSource(filePath);
attachmentBodyPart.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(source));
attachmentBodyPart.setFileName(fileName);
multipart.addBodyPart(attachmentBodyPart);
message.setContent(multipart);
Transport.send( message );
In my code if i mention a smtp server name in smtpHost , code is working fine, but i want to use localhost.
so what will be the code for that??? should i have to configure anything.
plz help.
thnx in advance

The code for sending mail from localhost is simply this:
props.put("mail.smtp.host", "localhost"); But this will not work unless you have an SMTP server running on the same computer where that code is running. That's what "localhost" means. If you are trying to send e-mail without using a server which knows who you are, stop trying to do that. That makes you a spammer. Don't do it.

    Spent at least 40 min talking to apple support, to sort it out. luckly not at my cost. After trying lots of things and speaking to a higher grade support person I was given a temp password which did the trick. I then was able to reset that with my own password.
    The impression i got was no one knowns  what the problem is and resetting the password at the apple end works. Not sure if you would be able to self fix.

    We are tying to send email on our mail server to a local username using the /usr/lib/sendmail -Am command. (We were trying to use "mailx" but we kept getting "savemail panic" error messages saying that postmaster couldn't be found.) Our objective is to get the output of our backups sent to a local account which is a username in messaging server.
    We consistently get "user unknown" errors. I've tried Mail, mailx and the sendmail program to get the messages sent. Here is an example of a local delivery case. We get similar results if we send to "[email protected]".

    I am guessing that this problem is related to another issue where I cannot create a user called "root" in the mail server user base. (maybe not, though).
    Is there a way to use the local mail programs (that depend on sendmail) to send to a Sun Messaging Server account on that same machine?

  • Sending mail from non-BT accounts

    I have email accounts with Apple (mobileMe), my own domain (hosted by Verio) and another of my own domains (hosted by Network Solutions) - as well as the BTinternet.com email account.
    Until today, all four accounts were set up on my email client (Apple Mail) to use their own respective SMTP servers for outgoing mail, and all four have worked fine in this way for literally years.
    This morning, I started getting error messages trying to send mail from the domain hosted by Verio ("cannot send message using the server [my own domain's SMTP server]").
    In the end, I followed the steps outlined in a thread on this forum to "add" the account to BTYahoo, verify it, and change the email client settings to use BT's SMTP server. So now it works fine.
    What I don't get is why I had to change this one account, when the other non-BT accounts (Apple and NS SMTP servers) continue to work fine as they are (ie using their own server details for outgoing mail).
    Anyone know the answer?  Obviously it works, so there's no problem (apart from wasting 2 hours this morning trying to figure out what the **bleep** had gone wrong), just curious as to BT's logic here.

    Hi Gregch.
    To be honest, the problem seems to be at the destination smtp service end and nothing to do with BT. You've not really supplied any details of the error message - is there anything else in the received message ?
    You've assumed that it's a BT fault, rather than perhaps investigating the possible error at Verio. As the other accounts work as exists, it really does point at Verio (or indeed something local, perhaps a security package interferring etc).

    Hi,
    i Want to send mails from oracle database (10gR1 on windows 2003) to user client systems (Developer 6i). Can anyone tell me how it is possible ?

    You can use utl_smtp to send mail or Java stored procedure to send the mail.
    example of utl_smtp.

    c utl_smtp.connection;
    rc integer;
    msg_from varchar2(50) := 'Oracle9.2';
    mailhost VARCHAR2(30) := '127.0.0.1'; -- local database host
    BEGIN
    c := utl_smtp.open_connection(mailhost, 25); -- SMTP on port 25
    utl_smtp.helo(c, mailhost);
    utl_smtp.mail(c, msg_from);
    utl_smtp.rcpt(c, msg_to);
    utl_smtp.data(c,'From: Oracle Database' || utl_tcp.crlf ||
    'To: ' || msg_to || utl_tcp.crlf ||
    'Subject: ' || msg_subject ||
    utl_tcp.crlf || msg_text);
    utl_smtp.quit(c);

    As part of an effort to internationalize our product we're testing on machines with host names that include non-ASCII characters (accented e's and whatnot). When trying to send mail from these machines we're getting:

    Looking at a network trace I see the EHLO command being sent as
    EHLO test[0xe9][0xdf]\r\n
    where the machine name is testéß. From a Unicode table 0xe9 0xdf = é ß.
    I found a reference from RFC 5336 (SMTP Extension for Internationalized Email Addresses) that says the hostname in the EHLO must be in the form of ACE (ASCII-compatible encoding) labels:
    3.7.1. The Initial SMTP Exchange
    When an SMTP connection is opened, the server normally sends a
    "greeting" response consisting of the 220 response code and some
    information. The client then sends the EHLO command. Since the
    client cannot know whether the server supports UTF8SMTP until after
    it receives the response from EHLO, any domain names that appear in
    this dialogue, or in responses to EHLO, MUST be in the hostname form,
    i.e., internationalized ones MUST be in the form of ACE labels.
    ACE encoding for my machine would be: java.net.IDN.toASCII("test4éß") --> "xn--testss-eva".
    I'm not sure if this RFC applies in this case - I didn't know anything about the guts of SMTP until yesterday - but it makes sense that you'd need to escape the hostname in the EHLO until you can negotiate capabilities.
    Looking at the JavaMail API it seems that if I were to call SMTPTransport.helo(String domain) myself without going through the higher-level Transport class that maybe I could work around the issue, but I haven't looked into it enough to know if that's feasible.
    Is anyone familiar with this problem? I'm using JavaMail 1.4.2 on Windows 2003 and Exchange as my SMTP server.
    thanks,
    Eric

    Same problem here (or at least in part). Some .mac folders did no longer show any messages, while they were there and could be seen online and with Thunderbird. After your remark I changed the name of a folder which contained a "´" and now it works. It is really strange because there is another folder with a "¨" in it which does not work (I will test if the name change works with this folder as well in a minute) whilst there is another one with such name which works fine. The update really messed up Mail and in Dutch we just use such characters so Mail without supporting them will be rather useless for me...

    <b>Settings for sending mail</b>
    Configuring SAP 4.6x Internet mail Gateway
    SAP can be configured to send and receive emails from different sources.This section explains how to integrate SAPOffice with an external emailsystem. Your Internet email must be configured and running prior to this.Email from SAP is forwarded to the users external email system..
    You can configure inbound and outbound forwarding. Outbound flow forwardsa SAP message (eg: update termination) via UNIX sendmail to the intended recepient. Inbound accepts a message from sendmail and places it in the users SAPOffice inbox. Many companies prefer to configure outbound only.
    Configuring outbound forwarding
    SAP configuration
    1. Create your RFC destination for outbound email using transaction SM59

    In SCOT (View -> System Status), your mail remains at the Intransit column.
    Check you sendmail.cf files (e.g.Sun Solaris /etc/mail/sendmail.cf). Try using the sendmail command to send a test file at the Unix level. You must be able to send mail at theUnix level before you can send mail at the SAP level.

  • 10.5 - 10.6.2: Postfix not accepting e-mails from certain hosts

    Hi
    Two days ago we migrated our server from 10.5 Server to a new Mac mini server running 10.6.2 server.
    We are now facing the problem that postfix refuses to accept incoming e-mails from most hosts. Some hosts seem to be able to get through, but so far we haven't be able to identify a pattern.
    The transfers just times out with various error messages. Below is one of the shorter transscripts. Any ideas where to start looking?
    Feb 5 18:36:12 www postfix/smtpd[34067]: connect from pluto2-mail.kagi.com[67.134.14.166]
    Feb 5 18:36:12 www postfix/smtpd[34067]: setting up TLS connection from pluto2-mail.kagi.com[67.134.14.166]

    Feb 5 18:41:14 www postfix/smtpd[34067]: timeout after DATA (986 bytes) from pluto2-mail.kagi.com[67.134.14.166]
    Feb 5 18:41:14 www postfix/smtpd[34067]: disconnect from pluto2-mail.kagi.com[67.134.14.166]
    Thanks,
    Ilja

    Hi again,
    I was able to further narrow down the problem. The remote server is sending a complete message but postfix on our mac doesn't recognize the end of message token, thus timing out the connection after 5 minutes.
    Any ideas? Is this a postfix issue? If so, what can we do about it.

  • Sending mail from workflow or Updating container from FM

    Dear friends,
    I'm new to work flow.
    My requirement: send mail from workflow to a user after dead line is missed I do not want to use messages in 'Latest end' tab. I want to send mail.
    The mail id of the user is determined in the previous step using a FM. How do I use this mail id to send the mail. I thought of using 'Rule' option in 'Send Mail' (and use same FM)but thats not possible. In that case how do I pass the mail id value to the WF container from the FM?
    I also tried this idea:
    created a task with BOR object SELFITEM, method 'SENDTASKDESCRIPTION' .
    *in an activity step used this task and filled the 'Rule' option in notification tab appropriately
    *in this case the WF goes into an error '.....error executing 'sendtaskdescription' .....'
    *i would prefer using the activity step because, the mail has to be sent after a delay
    Is there any other simple method to do this?
    My problem would be solved even if someone can show me how to transfer values from a FM into a WF container.
    Can someone please explain?

    Hi,
    => To get the deadline worked via programming, you can write your own logic. In current case,
    1. Create a custom function, having proper input and output parameters like End Time to wait if in case you have maximum of 2 days of wait.
    The total wait time is calculated from the Endtime, which is input to function module.  From the Endtime, the start date and end date are calculated and then the difference between the two dates is counted as total wait time.
    Here at the most 2 days of wait time is calculated.
    * Local parameters
      DATA: LV_UTCSTART TYPE /SDF/CMO_TSTMP,
            LV_UTCEND   TYPE /SDF/CMO_TSTMP,
            LV_SECOND   TYPE /SDF/CMO_SEC,
            LV_ENDDATE  TYPE SY-DATUM,
            LV_STR TYPE STRING.
      IF ENDTIME >= SY-UZEIT AND ENDTIME <= '235959'.
    *   Today's date
        LV_ENDDATE = SY-DATUM.
      ELSE.
    *   Tomorrow's date
        LV_ENDDATE = SY-DATUM + 1.
      ENDIF.
    * Get the Start Time for function module
      CONCATENATE SY-DATUM SY-UZEIT INTO LV_STR.
      MOVE LV_STR TO LV_UTCSTART.
      CLEAR LV_STR.
    * Get the End Time for function module
      CONCATENATE LV_ENDDATE ENDTIME INTO LV_STR.
      MOVE LV_STR TO LV_UTCEND.
      CLEAR LV_STR.
    * Get the total wait time in seconds
      CALL FUNCTION '/SDF/CMO_TIME_DIFF_GET'
        EXPORTING
          UTC_START = LV_UTCSTART
          UTC_END   = LV_UTCEND
        IMPORTING
          SECOND    = LV_SECOND
        EXCEPTIONS
          PARAMERR  = 1
          OTHERS    = 2.
      IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
    * MESSAGE ID SY-MSGID TYPE SY-MSGTY NUMBER SY-MSGNO
    *         WITH SY-MSGV1 SY-MSGV2 SY-MSGV3 SY-MSGV4.
      ENDIF.
    * Wait for total time
    WAIT UP TO LV_SECOND SECONDS.
    2. Now, create one method in the BOR object whose event triggers your workflow.
    3. Use this method in an activity step in you workflow where you want to wait on some given conditions.
    => You can use the email ID which was given by earlier step in Send Mail step. Just make your email id field as Export/Import <i><b>AD_SMTPADR</b></i> type of parameter. In the send mail, use this Id in Email Address input.
    Hope this helps your.

  • Sending Mail from jsp

    Hi guys,
    can anyone help me out of this problem ??
    I have written a piece of code which sends mail from a jsp page.
    When I use the 'Recipient'(TO) as an address in the same domain
    (ie,<xxx>@<apeejaygroup.com>) it works fine.
    But when I use an address such as <xxx>@<rediffmail.com>
    the code gives an error like -
    "javax.mail.SendFailedException: Sending failed;
    nested exception is:
    javax.mail.SendFailedException: Invalid Addresses;
    nested exception is:
    javax.mail.SendFailedException: 550 5.7.1 ... Relaying denied"
    I am sending the piece of code for reference..
    String host ="192.168.33.11";
    String from="[email protected]";
    String to="<xxx>@apeejaygroup.com";
    ( HERE USING THE ADDRESS AS <xxx>@<rediffmail>.com
    GIVES THE EXCEPTION - javax.mail.SendFailedException: 550 5.7.1 ... Relaying denied )
    Properties props = System.getProperties();
    props.put("mail.smtp.host", host);
    javax.mail.Session session1 = javax.mail.Session.getDefaultInstance
    (props, null);
    MimeMessage message = new MimeMessage(session1);
    message.setFrom(new InternetAddress(from));
    message.addRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO,new InternetAddress(to));
    message.setSubject("Your Registration Details");
    message.setContent(body,"text/html");
    Transport.send(message);
    Please help me out of this.
    Regards
    Satrajit

    as you said that it might require authentication
    but our mail server doesn't require authentication to mail.
    Now what should i do ??Many servers are now authenticating by requiring you to fetch your e-mail before sending. This is basically because most SMTP mail servers CAN NOT authenticate in the normal sense of the word. So, they use the fetch process for authentication. The fetch process already requires authentication normally. Then your IP address will be good for, say, 20 minutes, and you can relay e-mail through the server.
    It works with most E-mail clients such as Outlook or Netscape, because the default behavior is to 1.Connect to the POP server, 2.Login, 3.Download any new mail, 4.Connect to the SMTP server, 5.Upload any mail to send.
    Even if you don't have any mail, your IP address will at least have been authenticated. Even if you just check for mail, and not download any, you should be OK.
    So what I'd suggest is that you write some code that attempts to connect to your mail system's POP server, get authenticated successfully, then try sending out the e-mail through the SMTP server.
