Sending movies from macbook to apple tv
I've had an Apple TV since Christmas 09 and for the life of me I am so confused with how it's syncing works. My macbook is virtually full so I want to keep my movies on the Apple TV drive, but my apple tv keeps sending it's contents to my macbook. I've not got movies ticked in the syncing setting which seems to have stopped the transfer, but now I have movies on my macbook that I want on my Apple TV to free some space.
How do I send movies from my macbook to my apple tv's hard drive without apple tv sending it's contents to my macbook?
Syncing as the name suggests keeps iTunes/AppleTV in sync.
AppleTv is not a storage device, but it canhold synced copies of iTunes material.
The problem you have is that there's no simple way to get stuff off AppleTV, so if there's no copy elsewhere, you'd lose it if something happened to the AppleTV.
Yes, with a laptop you may eat up valuable space, so the best option is to find the files via iTunes (right click) and copy them to an external drive for storage. Next delete the entry from iTunes to free up space on the laptop.
Next change your iTunes Advanced Preferences to stop items added to iTunes being copied to it's library (i.e. Macbook library location), then re-add the files from the external drive to iTunes by drag and drop or menu options - in this way the media is 'catalogued' in iTunes database and available to sync to AppleTV, but lives on the external drive. You may need to resync the content added this way to AppleTv if it initially disappears.
Any purchases made on AppleTV need to be allowed to sync back for you to make backup copies, and you can apply the same system of adding them to an external drive.
The external drive would not need to be connected all the time, only if you needed to sync something to AppleTV that wasn't on it or the Macbook - it will stay on the AppleTv once synced even if external drive not connected but won't be available in iTunes to play without connecting next to item if you try.

how can I get an itunes movie from macbook to apple tv via airplay?
You don't use Airplay. You set up Home Sharing on both and under the Computers section of AppleTV you'll then find it under Movies (or Rentals if rented), assuming it's in a compatible format.

hello.
I recently purchased a macbook pro, and is, and learn some things. and I have apple tv, and the question is can I send a movie from macbook and surf the Internet simultaneously without interrupting the movie?Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can't do that in AirPlay Mirroring. AirPlay Mirroring can only mirror your MacBook's display, so you can't do one thing in your Mac's display and another in the TV.
This is a feature that will arrive in Mavericks. Read > http://www.apple.com/osx/preview -
Sending content from Macbook Pro to Apple TV
Have had Apple TV for a year, and am still don't know how to send movies from the laptop (Mavericks) to Apple TV. Have turned on Home Sharing, but what then?
Is a cable necessary? A good wireless (Verizon) network is available.
If someone could post a step-by-step procedure I'd be very grateful.home sharing is the appletv being able to access supported media in a shared itunes lib on your computer it works pretty much the same way as other computers on the same network as you can access media from your itunes lib if you set it as shared
iTunes: How to share music and video
airplay mean sending media such as audio and video to be displayed on the appletv as in pretty much the opposite as shared lib
not all macs support airplay mirror which include video read more

Does it worth to move from macbook pro to macbook pro retina?
Hey
I have macbook pro with
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB
and its good but many people are saying macbook pro 2013 with retina display is the best laptop and has many features so do you advice me to move from macbook pro to macbook pro 2013 with retina display?
thankaIt's a very sweet machine, of course. Although the upgrade path is a bit dicey. Just my opinion, but unless you have very demanding graphics needs (in which case you probably should have a desktop system with a huge monitor), I don't see the point of spending all the money. Probably you would get more value if you take your current machine and max out the RAM and get an SSD.
It's hard to advise anyone in such matters via the internet.

How do you transfer movies from macbook to a external hard drive it won't recognise
how do i transfer movies from macbook to a external hard drive? it just wont recognize
So your MacBook Pro is a 2012 model (I'm assuming since you only bought it a week ago!)?
There are some known issues with the USB 3.0 ports on the 2012 models where they do not recognize USB external drives. This tech note may be of some help - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5172#12.
Some people that are using pre-release versions of Mountain Lion, to be released in the next couple of weeks, have written here that their USB 3.0 port problems are 'fixed' with the new version of OS X 10.8.
Try the Apple FAQ first and if that doesn't solve your problem, you may have to wait a couple of weeks to see if 10.8 does.

For transferring videos you could use 'Video Transfer App'. I'm the developer of this universal application (iPhone/iPad) that let's you transfer videos from your iPad or computer directly to another iPhone or iPad.
The app is currently in the Top 25 iPad apps in the photography category.
Here are couple of videos that show how the app works:

it's dvd's DRM encryption kicking in
it's by design if you use remote desktop from another computer to the computer
the same thing would happen
people say that the free player vlc don't have the issue
if that is the case then vlc are breaking the law as stripping a dvd's movie stream of encryption is not really legal -

How do i download movie from macbook air directly to icloud?
how do i download movie from macbook air directly to icloud?
You want to download (I assume you meant upload) it to iCloud? If that's what you mean, you can't. iCloud will already have movies purchased from the iTunes store, which can be redownloaded (depending on your location) from your purchased list. Movies from other sources cannot be stored in iCloud, except digital copies or purchased DVDs that are compatible with iTunes.
