Sending my Lumia 800 for assessment.

After owning the Lumia 800 for 6 months, I'm sending the device to a Nokia Care Centre for assessment mainly on the issue of:-
a) heating up issue; and
b) inability to send or receive mms.
However, before i proceed. I'd like to know what are the possible remedies that might be available to me. I was informed by one of the staffs there that in the event that the device is needed to be send for repair, i will be given a "loan phone" of the same model (which is great!).
I was also informed that Nokia will not do a one-for-one replacement even if the device appears to be faulty. Nokia will only replace the faulty parts (if the motherboard is faulty, they replace it and return the device to the user).
My question is this, if indeed something internal requires replacement. I am not comfortable getting back my device after knowing it has been pried open and there's bound to be workmanship issue (gaps etc).
What are the possibilities on getting Nokia to give me a one-for-one replacement? (provided the faults are theirs)
I had a iPhone 4 and Apple Store gave me a one-for-one replacement due to the 'home button" issue.

Hi,
I have been to nokia care. If your device is out of the replacement period mostly (7 days) and found it faulty as per Nokia Care they will only repair your device.
Reasons that Nokia will replace your device if it's irrepairable but will still based on their assessment.
This is BS as Nokia has no warranty against hidden deffects as once you bring your device to Nokia Care it means it is for repair though it's no user fault.

  • Is the Lumia 800 a step backwards for nokia?

    Having now owned a lumia 800 for a few days, I have found imo that this phone feels like a step back to some of the older nokias when it comes to the basic features of the phone. Don't get me wrong some of the new features are ok, but when it comes to selecting a ring tone, or customisation of what icons you see on your screen, connecting to other devices to send files etc. have they put enough thought into what this so called advanced phone should be like or have they just put the hardware together and said sod it there you go microsoft do what you want with the software and forget about anything we have done before? I would love to hear what other users of this phone think.

    @iceytoa1. Since you are bringing cars into this, I will use it to explain my point. Most modern up-to-date mobile phones have a very simple basic function built in that is designed to protect car drivers when they have their hands free kits set up in their car , Auto Answer. The Iphone you have to purchase an app to do this, And now Nokia have not included this basic function in the lumia 800. Would you want to pay extra on a brand new car, just to have indicators? I have no problem with Nokia wanting to try and increase sales, but when it means they are forgetting about everything they have done with the previous models and the basic functions that the all had, then something is very wrong. Either they don't give a monkeys about all the loyal customers they have gained over the years, or they have sold out to microsoft already.
    @neie35c. I 2 wanted the N9. When I spoke to nokia about getting one they said to me the lumia 800 was virtually the same just had windows on it. I am now stuck with the lumia for the term of my contract, unless the thing breaks and then I can send it back and get a decent phone.

  • Lumia 800 stopped working

    Hi
    I had my Lumia 800 for almost four weeks now. every thing was fin until today. I was listening to music and it stopped working. the phone was fully charged. when I connect headphones, I can hear noises(like the phone is on) but the screen is black and I cant get it to display anything like the phone is dead
    I tried all buttons, USB to PC connections and replacing sim card, none of that made any change to the phone's condition
    can anyone tell me what is wrong with it and how can I fix it?!!!

    i had the same problem, its because your service provider needs to update the settings . i rang orange up told them that my nokia lumia 800 could receive messages but not send them. they then asked me to type in the sms centre number in but the phone wouldn't save it, so they then sent me a text. telling me to delete this text and turn off the phone, i turned the phone off for a minute or two, turned it back on and then after that it was back to normal. took about 5 minutes.

  • Dead Lumia 800 - same as others here

    Well.. I was about to send my Lumia 800 back to the suppplier because of a faulty compass and then the phone dies on me.
    It behaved exactly like others have described in other threads here...
    The  phone was hooked up to my laptop charging next to my bed. In the morning it vibrated. I looked at it and it said goodbye. I took it off the lead and turned it on. It came back just long enough to show the battery with the tiny red bit at the bottom and then the Nokia logo.. that then slid off to the left and the phone went dead.
    I've tried everything to get it running again. Warmed it, plugged in-out many many times, pressed every key combo endlessly.
    I had to finally go in for the kill, lose all my photos (ARGHH!!!! angry about that!!) and attempt to trigger a hard reset. That also failed.. nothing will get this thing going.
    So I've sent it back to expansys and hopefully they'll dispose of it in a proper manner as it has all my personal info on it. And then send me a new one.
    Love the phone, but what a pain this has been.
    Dunno what can be done,. but obviously the design is problematic.
    Rob

    I know the feeling, hopefully the lumia 900 doesn't have the same problems. My touch screen failed on my 800. I did a phone erase through the windowsphone.com website and it still wouldn't work the same way. It's been shipped to the warranty company to get fixed or replaced. I've downgraded to my old nokia N72, that I've had since 2005, suprised that thing is still going strong. I guess it's true what they say w/ 1st gen items, wait till they come out w/ a 2nd gen. They always learn from the 1st and fix the bugs @ the 2nd attempt of a product.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 with screen "offsetting"

    Hi all,
    I just bought a Lumia 800 here, in France, and I've a really strange behaviour with the screen : sometimes, it flashes and is offset  for a few seconds. It's hard to capture it or reproduce it, but doing the december update, it was offset for a few minutes, so I took a picture...
    The screen "offset" : https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=ae4b221495f60c8e&resid=AE4B221495F60C8E!1108&parid=AE4B2214...
    The screen "as it should be" : https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=ae4b221495f60c8e&resid=AE4B221495F60C8E!1107&parid=AE4B2214...
    Is that a known bug ?
    Hardware or software related ?
    Should I return it ?
    Thanks.

    I have this issue as well. I'm loathed to send it off to Nokia Care as I've already had to send one Lumia 800 off for another fault, and it took nearly three weeks for turnaround.
    Although it's interesting that yours does it for a few seconds at a time. Mine is only for milliseconds, then it flickers back. Still annoying.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 bricked

    Hi All,
    I have had a (relatively!) trouble-free Lumia 800 for the last 10 months or so. It is on Vodafone UK, and runs the latest software updates.
    Today, I had it plugged into the laptop at work and had just removed Facebook as an account (I have been trying to get my message updates to work), and whilst it was plugged into the laptop via USB I performed a full turn-off by holding down the power button for 10 seconds.
    However, it now will not turn on at all, no matter what I do to it. It was pretty much fully charged when this happened, and here is the list of things I have tried:
    Left it plugged into the laptop for more than 2 hours;
    Warmed the phone up by leaving it in (hot!) direct sunlight;
    Held down the power button for about a minute both plugged in and unplugged;
    Held down Volume-Down, Power and Camera buttons both plugged in and unplugged;
    Plugged it into a laptop and stand-along charger;
    Done pretty much all of the above whilst removing and replacing SIM card etc.
    However, all the above do absolutely nothing at all, and the phone is well and truely completely bricked. I am really struggling with this - is there anything anyone can suggest? Is there some sort of complete reload/reboot that I can try?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil

    Sadly all brands have troubles, know people that have had far worse reliability with HTC's and Samsungs recently. Personally amongst my family, friends and colleagues not one of us has had a serious issue with any of our 10+ Lumias, luck of the draw. The only one we had a little bit of trouble was my sisters branded 710 but it started to behave after a hard reset. I personally had trouble with an 800 back in October but it wasn't mine and wasn't running release firmware.
    Personally I always have a spare phone, either at home or work in case mine lets me down, fortunately i've not had to touch it whist using the Lumia 800 & 900.
    If the charger thing doesn't work then sadly you'll either have to send it off or claim for it on any insurance policies you may have. There is nothing further that can be done on this forum to help.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 - Email templates

    Hi, I am trying to create an email template on my Noia lumia 800 for sending quotes to clients.
    The template would have a company logo at the top, followed by some standard text with a few black spaces to be filled out specific to each client.
    Is this possible?? Thank you.

    Not sure about email templates, but get used to the copy and paste feature and you could use the Office Word option, or use the Word file as an attachement,
    If a smart phone is smart, why is mine so dumb

  • Lumia 800 not switching on. Dead?

    I have had my Lumia 800 for a little less than a year and 6 months without any major problems besides the typical battery issues. Few days ago, I restarted my mobile (long pressing the hold/lock button till the goodbye message appears) only to never switch on again. I tried every possible key combinations, tried charging through the power outlet & the PC yet the phone wouldn't switch on. Please help.

    Was the battery  fairly when you rebooted it? Is it possible that the battery is dead? If so you could try charging with a high output charger, such as one for a tablet.
    Other than that, have you tried rebooting the phone again by pressing and holding the power button for at least 10 seconds or so?

  • Lumia 800 - Ringtone and vibration is too soft

    I just got the lumia 800 for 2 days.
    I found that the ringtone volume is too soft and the vibration is not strong enough (in adddition with the problem of once start vibration in incoming call).
    I hope some update can help fix this problems.

    I would not be so sure about that..
    http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/support/faq/?action=singleFAQ&caseid=FA128729_en_US
    My vibration is also quite weak, though it's quite OK when you run the vibration diagnosis.. ##634# or something like that..

  • Serious camera problems with the Lumia 800

    Hello everyone, I just want to share my experience with you.
    I've been using an unlocked Lumia 800 for a week now and I actually like the phone, however these camera problems are just unacceptable.
    The camera has SERIOUS white balance problems, and, for me the most important, the auto-focus is just ridiculous. It works bad, but focusing on "macro" objects is just a no go, even usin the touch focus or the "macro" focus mode. Another problem is the lens flare, which reflects how bad these optics might be. You really think that the Carl Zeiss branded optics anything here? Think again. My HTC Incredible S, with its "OEM" optics, (or the Iphone 4S or the SII) just humiliates this camera. Also, is that so hard to make a green square focus confirmarion?
    How can they release a flagship device, with this price range, with these problems? No wonder why Nokia is where it is standing now, "almost" in a closing-doors status. They really need better engineers and programmers because everytime they let this happen with a device, they're tossing away their valuable customers. And they really deserve it.
    And as I've been reading, the Lumia 900 is having the same problems... How sad is this?
    Regards,
    RR
    Moderator's note; removed personal remarks

    No, the camera is not that bad, it is actually decent in lowlight conditions @ISO100 (it automatically raises a bit, but it avoids the 800, unlike the auto-mode), with a good balance between noise and detail. However, In my opinion, that's the whole purpose in camera phones - point and shoot. If I could only take good photos if I find the perfect combination of settings for each situation, the versatility of camera phones would be zero. And of course, if I want "perfect" photos, I'll use my DSLR, but that's not an excuse for this camera, which performs worse that my previous E72.
    And understand light and ff course this camera can take amazing photos, as those in flickr, but all cameras can do that. Some do need lots of effort and tries, some not. Even my old Sony Ericsson C902, which was **bleep**, could sometimes take some nice pics.
    I'm not complaining about the full set of caracteristics, but about the details that ruin the whole.
    - Lack of self-time;
    - Metering is also inaccurate. Lots of clipped highlights;
    - White balance is a mess with flash and indoors (incandescent or fluorescent lights);
    - Lateral lens flare, which is bad and I'll upload an example soon.
    - I believe the whole auto-focus is a bit inaccurate, but I can only really notice it in macro captures. This really incapacitates me of taking detailed document photos, which I usually do.
    Overall, I'm really enjoying the phone experience, but the camera fails to impress mainly due to the lack of effort by the Nokia Developers to tweak the camera driver properly, which is pitiful.
    Here's an example of a screen capture, at 15cm (any other phones I know can sharp-focus at this distance): notice the off-focus/blurred center, the whole image soft-focus, and those stained areas. Weird!

  • Congrats to all Lumia 800 owners

    I have been visiting an O2 shop yesterday and played around with the Lumia 800 for a couple of hours. It was awesome. There was even an Iphone customer who only wanted some accessoires standing by lurking over and after a while he confessed that he would buy a Lumia if he had not that Iphone already.
    Unfortunately there is one thing that keeps me from buying the Lumia: It does not have a physical keyboard. I NEED a physical horizontal slider keyboard. So i hope many Nokia employees are reading this: RELEASE THE E7 AS WINDOWS PHONE!!!
    I did not buy a Lumia yesterday. If there was a E7 as Windows Phone, I would have bought it right away. So if you want me to buy a Nokia Windows phone in the future get the E7 up as a Windows Phone. Otherwise I need to get a HTC or else which I don´t prefer.

  • Lumia 800 snapped batterey cover and can't hardly ...

    Hi
    I've had my Lumia 800 for a couple of months now. Recently the battery charger cover on the top of the phone started to bend and eventually snapped off. Is there any way to get a new one fitted?
    Also since the recent update I can hardly hear the other person speaking when on a call, and that's with the volume turned up to the maximum 10. Has anybody else had this problem?

    Think you can buy parts online, but would recommend taking phone to a Nokia Care Point for repair, my volume levels haven't changed since the update BTW !
