Sending output of Reports to FTP in 10g R2 Application Server

Hi All,
Hope every one would have seen these lines in reportsserver.conf file in $ORACLE_HOME/reports/conf file.
*" <destination destype="ftp" class="oracle.reports.plugin.destination.ftp.DesFTP">*
*<!--property name="proxy" value="proxyinfo.xml"/-->*
*</destination> "*
Is the above lines really meant for spooling the reports output and FTP the same to another PC.
I have a requirement of spooling the reports output to clients PC. We are running reports server in Linux, as the reports directly gets saved into the server folder. We want the file to ported to a windows PC automatically. Though we have accomplished this by configuring SAMBA, it requires a additional configuration on the server side.
Seeing the above lines in reports server conf file i thought many in forum would have given a try and wanted to know the feedback on the same whether my requirement can be met with this, if ORACLE by itself gives that feature to us. Please share your thoughts and appreciate participation on this good topic.
Thanks

Hello,
Yes, these lines are related to the ftp destination :
http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_17/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_dest.htm#i1005607
Of course, a ftp server must run on the machine where you want to "send" the reports output...

• Sending IDOC information in the XML format on the application server

Hello All,
We have a requirement like, while creating a billing document, an IDOC should be generated and the XML file should be created for that data in IDOC and that XML file would be sent to further via XI.
For this purpose, we have created
1. Logical Sender Receiver Systems We are sending the data from DL3 system 100 client to DL3 800 client
2. Assigned the clients to the logical system.
3. Created the distribution model with the message type INVOIC.
4. Created the partner profiles.
5. Created an XML port in transaction WE21, in which the application server file path is mentioned on which the xml file would be generated and the function module is provided which will only generate the file name is mentioned. In the outbound trigger tab the RFC destination is mentioned which is of type TCP/IP LOCAL_EXEC
6. In transaction WE20, for the 100 logical system added the message type INVOIC as a outbound parameter and same for the 800 client. The receiver port is mentioned as XML port which we have created.
Now, when we create the billing document via VF01 transaction, we give the transmission medium as ALE in the output. Hence the IDOC gets generated. The XML file also gets generated but the contents of the file are ONLY control records of the IDOC.
And not the data record and the status records.
The IDOC, if we see in WE02 displayes all the data in control , data and status records.
We want the control, Data and Status records of the IDOC to be populated in the XML file.
Please suggest if any extra configuration is required in this case. We are working on SAP 4.6.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Regards,
Anuja

Hi Rob,
Ya ,i will take care your suggestion from next time..
Yes, we have downloaded the file using transaction CG3Y and opned it with IE as suggested by you. Howerver the contents are still seems to be control record.
For your reference putting the contents of the file.
<?xml version = "1.0"?><INVOIC01><IDOC BEGIN="1"><EDI_DC40 SEGMENT="1"><TABNAM><![CDATA[EDI_DC40]]></TABNAM><MANDT>100</MANDT><DOCNUM>0000000000227012</DOCNUM><DOCREL>46C</DOCREL><STATUS>30</STATUS><DIRECT>1</DIRECT><OUTMOD>2</OUTMOD><IDOCTYP>INVOIC01</IDO
Please advice.
Thanks.

• FTP program executed on application server

Hi all,
my goal is to send a file from HOST (AS400) to a SAP using a batch program in order to see it from AL11 transaction.
I found the standard program RSFTP* that use Function Module FTP*.
In particular If I execute the standard program RSFTP003 online (on presentation server) it works right but If I execute it on batch it doesn't work with error:
RFC to program SAPFTP failed E205(04).
Is this the only way to reach my goal?
Do you have any suggestions?
Gino

Hi,
If you are willing to Place the File first on your desktop and then next to AL11 means

Program Type: BAPI
Program/Method: CREATE
3) Click on Copy Button
4) Select the Source as Presentation Server
a) Select the File where you saved in your Local machine
5) Select the Target as Application server
a) Check the check box Remote Server
b) Select the File type as Physical
c) In File name give /usr/sap/SSD/DVEBMGS00/work\Your file name (This the Server path
Where the file is going to save)
6) Click on Continue
Go to AL11 and check whether the File has been create in the following path /usr/sap/SSD/DVEBMGS00/work

• Developer Suit 10g As Application Server

Can i use 10g Developer Suit as my application server?
i mean installing developer suit 10g and keeping oc4j running and report services running on my server machine serve the purpose of an application server?
i have tried installing and configuring report services on 10g Application Server after getting tired i am planning to do this.
Thanx in advance

Developer suite can not be officially used as production server since it is light weight . It may not handle the load. If it is for limited number of users
go for it.

• Deploying Forms 10g in Application Server 10g

Hello Everyone,
I have downloaded the Forms 10g demo's from "http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/products/forms/index.html."
I want to deploy these forms in Oracle Application Server 10g.
Can anyone please send the steps on how to do the same.
The above URL gives steps for deploying iDS10g only.
Thanks & Regards,
Rakesh

Hi Tony,
Sorry for late reply. I got stuck into something..
I tried the steps mentioned in the Forms10g Demo Install Guide.
I did the following configurations from the "InstallGuide" document.
3 Modify the OC4J Configuration
3a Modify orion-web.xml
3b Modify web.xml
3c Verify the changes
So when i the run the following URL
http://<host>:<port>/forms/formsdemo/images/tick.gif
I get "Page cannot be found". I did look into the Forms Services Deployment Guide on how to deploy images when running forms on the web. But no luck.
I still haven't run the Database scripts. I am just testing if i can get the image displayed.
Thanks & Regards,
Rakesh

• Code generate report in excel format from portal(Application Server)

Hi all
Please give some solution with code generate report in excel format from
oracle portal(Application Server).

Not feasible.
Why? Because "the Excel format" is a binary and proprietary Microsoft file format. And writing a generator to generate Excel files will be complex, and resource expensive. In the vast majority of cases this will not be justified.
As an alternative the very basic Microsoft XML office format can be used. But note that this is not a a ISO standard (it has been shot down in flames) - and effort and resources for that would be better spend on the Open Document XML standard (which very likely will be ratified as the ISO standard instead).
Of course, you could have meant a CSV file - in which case, you need to play close attention to details. CSV is not an Excel format. A software designers and developers, our success is determined by attention to technical detail. In which case you are not paying any attention to technical detail by confusing CSV with Excel.

• Report Times Out only on Dialog Application Server

Hi -
We are on ECC 6. We have a Central Instance and a Dialog Instance (both on AIX 5.3). When the endusers run S_ALR_87009788 (program RFRRBIL1), which can not be run as a background job, on the Central Instance it runs to completion in about 10 minutes. When they run the same report, with the same variant, on the Dialog Instance it times out in the SAPLGSAC program within the Include program LGSACF01.
I've checked and rechecked parameters on both servers and they match. CPU, memory and swap match as well.
To add to this, the report runs in 2 minutes on our ECQ system.
What else should I look at?
Thanks!
Margaret

> No, we do not have dedicated high-speed network connections between the application servers and the database server.
This explains why you can execute the program on the database server directly but not on the application server.
Most likely you have a 100 MBit connection, all other traffic is also going through that interface. So the application server must read all data from the database server, transfer it over the network to the application server and from there it has to be transmitted again to the client.
It's highly advised to not use the normal network interface for communication between app server and database but a dedicated network infrastructure to keep latencies low and to allow almost the same speed.

• Pull compressed file (.gz format) via FTP and place on Application server

Hello!
Greetings.
We have a requirement where a compressed file in the format *.gz is to be pulled via FTP and saved to the application server after extracting.
I searched the forums and found options to pull text or XL files, but nothing about pulling a compressed file. I wished to know if there is any process for the same. After pulling the file, it is to be saved to Application server after extracting. My doubts are as below:
1. How to pull a *.gz file via FTP (Need batch processing)
2. Can I extract and rename th file before saving it to applciation server? Or I need a temporary location to place the file before extraction?
Any inputs are appreciated.
Thanks,
Shishir.

Hi Sandra.
Thanks for the confirmation.
There is a change is the requirement. We need to Poll the FTP server for the file for the duration of one week every month.
When the file is found, we are to take the *.gz file, extract and put on the application server.
My question is how do we poll the application FTP server? I searched the forums and found a few threads that say that an FTP adapter is to be setup for polling the FTP server and then we can schedule it using u201CAvailability Time Planningu201D.
/people/shabarish.vijayakumar/blog/2006/11/26/adapter-scheduling--hail-sp-19-
I wished to know if that is the only way to approach this requirement.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
Shishir.
