Sending slideshow to IDVD from IPHOTO

I am losing quality when i export slideshow from iphoto. Quality is good when it is in iphoto but not in idvd

Was any of the music purchased from iTunes? If so, it is possible that this music has the DRM protection which has been know to cause problems such as this.
If you are using iTunes music, you should take these preliminary steps.
1. Burn the music in question to a CD.
2. Reimport the music as an AIFF file using either of these procedures.
If you have iTunes 8.0, go to iTunes Preferences>General>Import settings (drop down menu) AIFF encoder
For earlier versions: iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing>Import using: (drop down menu) AIFF encoder
3. This music can now be imported into your project.
If you are still having problems, I suggest that you start a new topic in the iPhoto or iDVD forum. Your issue is different from that of the original post, and starting a new topic will help to give your question the attention it deserves.
I hope this helps.

  • Problem making exact same slideshow in iDVD from iPhoto

I have made a slideshow in iPhoto, and want to burn exactly the same on to iDVD. Slideshow contains stills, small video movies and music from iTunes. Problem: I have burned a DVD in iDVD, but I can't get Ken Burns Theme, movie sound and movie is not in sync (sound starts long before movie) and poor resolution in pictures.
I want to show the iPhoto slideshow without bringing my entire iMac. Any suggestions?

Another option is to Share/Export the slideshow from iPhoto to Quicktime (Choose large/full quality option). This turns the slideshow into a video file with all parts integrated. You can play it with Quicktime Player to make sure it's right before dragging/dropping it into iDVD.
    Exporting looks like this:

  • When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2.

When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2?  Any suggestions for getting the correct photo to show on iPad2?

Update:  I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto").  This seems to have corrected the issue.  I'm not sure why.  Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.

  • Mobile Me was my default email account, so if I did any emailing like trying to send a photo directly from iphoto it would send from the mobile me address.  Is there a way to set a different default email account now that mobile me is gone?

We used Mobile Me for our default email.  So if you answered an ad from a site or tried to send a photo directly from iphoto, it would use the mobile me account. Now that its gone, can I set a different address as my default?

WEll, MobileMe has been moved & still works in iCloud.
Did you setrup an iCloud account?
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT - DO NOT TRY TO ALTER YOUR EXISTING ACCOUNT.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com

    • Port: 587
    • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • Problems exporting slideshow with music from iPhoto 5 to iDVD

I made a slideshow on iPhoto, and selected one Playlist with 4 tracks as backgroundmusic. When I ¨play¨the slideshow in ¨iPhoto¨ I can listen the music ( all 4 tracks), but when I ¨export¨ the slideshow or ¨send to iDVD¨, the final Quicktime movie contains all the fotos but only the first track of the Playlist.
    I use Quicktime 7.1.3, iPhoto 5.0.4 and iTunes 7.0.2
Can somebody help me to find a solution...:)...? thanks...
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

this was a known problem with iPhoto 5. do you have the latest update to iPhoto 5?
Only one song exporting with Slideshows
With iPhoto 5 this seems to be a know problem/bug. There have been some work-arounds. Don't know if the problem is with iPhoto, Quicktime or a combo of both.
-From Bob Worthington: re-ripping the cuts I wanted as background music for the DVD as a single cut in iTunes. I then made a playlist containing the one extended cut of music.
-Old Toad: share to Quicktime from iPhoto and then import the resulting movie into iMovie you can extract and delete the audio from the video and add the two songs to the video and save.
Quicktime Pro-open the movie and bring up the Movie Properties menu window. In the top window select the audio track and delete it.
If you want more than one song you'll have to join them together with iMovie or some other application. Then open that joined file with QT Player. Then do a select all and copy. Now go to the QT window of the movie and select the Edit->Add to Movie menu option. You don't want to scale it because it will change the play speed of the audio unless it's time is exactly the same as the movie.
You could go the other way, open the movie, select all and copy, and then past with scaling to the audio. That will change the speed of the movie and transitions to fit the audio track. In this case the resulting video file will have the name of the audio track file that you started with.
You may have to play with it a bit to get exactly what you want. Be sure to work with copies of all the media files for the project.
-Peter Burtwistle: I opened the Qt movie that iPhoto makes when you export to iDVD and removed the sound track.
Then made a new soundtrack by opening all three songs in QT, then cutting and pasting them together.
Finally use QT Pro's 'Add to Movie" option to add the soundtrack to the original movie.
This worked well and was fast to do too.
-Joe Lombardo: I ended up having to extend the songs by 20 seconds so I brought them all into GarageBand and made some edits. Then I exported them all to iTunes as a single track and used that for the slideshow
From scotty321 at MacOSXHints.com: If you have Roxio Toast Titanium installed on your machine, you can join unprotected tracks yourself by simulating a disc burn. Simply take these steps:
Go to the Audio tab in Toast.
Drag your audio files from iTunes into Toast.
Reshuffle them in the proper order within Toast.
Go up to File: Save As Disc Image. Save your disc image somewhere on your Desktop.
Choose Utilities: Mount Disc Image. The CD will mount on your desktop, and iTunes will think that you just inserted a CD.
Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go through the import process, and you've got a joined track! Simply rename the track to whatever you want to call it, and you're good to go.
    From Lori...
    Burn the playlist in iTunes.
Make sure you have itunes Prefs just open the Cd and not automatically play or import the songs.
Insert the burned CD and iTunes will open.
Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go to Advanced>convert selection to AAC.
When done, make a new playlist named after the slideshow.
Put the new combined track into the playlist.
In iPhoto, select this playlist for your slideshow.

  • Slideshow project shared from iPhoto causes iDVD to crash

I've searched the forum and found a few threads that sounded like they pertained to this issue, but I didn't see much discussion beyond the question or any answers that had confirmations that they solved the problem.
I've created a slideshow project in iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.5), and I used the "Send to iDVD" option from the "Share" menu to send it to iDVD '08 (version 7.0.4). The export appears to work, a menu button appears in iDVD, and I'm able to work in iDVD to make changes to the theme, menu text, etc. However, if I try to actually view the slideshow movie in iDVD (either by double clicking on the menu button in the iDVD interface, or by using the "Preview DVD playback" button and then choosing the movie from the DVD menu), iDVD crashes. This is happening consistently. I've gone to my Movies folder and found the exported movie file that iPhoto created. This plays back in QuickTime Player just fine. If I add the movie to my iDVD project manually (as opposed to using the "Send to iDVD" option in iPhoto), it still causes iDVD to crash if I try to preview it.
Out of curiosity I brought a non-iPhoto generated QuickTime movie into iDVD, and it played back with no problem. I checked the compression format. The movie that worked was an Apple Motion JPG A movie file. I tried another non-iPhoto generated QuickTime movie file. This time iDVD crashed again. I noticed that this second non-iPhoto generated movie file said it was using the "Apple MPEG4 Decompressor" which is the same format as the movie file that iPhoto did create. I then tried an Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 QuickTime movie file and that worked just fine. Is that the problem? Apple MPEG-4 Decompressor movie files cause iDVD to crash? Could that really be possible when this is the format that iPhoto uses when exporting? Is there a solution? I don't see a way to select a different compression format when exporting/sharing a slideshow from iPhoto.
I discovered this problem while teaching a class to 12 students who don't know much about doing creative projects on a Mac. There are going to be 12 folks who don't think very much of Apple's computers and/or its software if I don't get this problem solved quickly (last day of class is tomorrow). Everything has been going along swimmingly up until this final step of getting the slideshow into iDVD and then burning it to take home. I'm stunned that this isn't working since I've never run into this problem before, but it's happening consistently with every workstation I've tried here in this lab. All computers are running iLife '08. We're all trying to do the same thing. Slideshow project created in iPhoto, trying to send it to iDVD for burning. I been doing stuff with iPhoto and iDVD for years without problems, so I didn't think I needed to run through an entire process here in this lab before teaching the class. I just expected everything to work like it always does. D'oh!
    Help!

    UPDATE:
In case you're interested.... Just because iDVD crashes when I try to preview my slideshow movie from iPhoto doesn't mean I can't successfully burn my DVD project to disc. I was skeptical, but it works. The burn process went off without a hitch, and the DVD plays back using Mac OS X's built-in DVD Player.
Another workaround is to use the "OneStep DVD from Movie..." option in the iDVD file menu and avoid working inside of iDVD.
Someone suggested that perhaps my trouble was connected to using a legacy theme as opposed to one of the newest 7.0 themes. Any truth to that?
Just because I can burn a DVD successfully doesn't mean I wouldn't still like to fix the crash problem if possible. I'm grateful that I now know that I can work around the crashing problem, but I do think it's something that should be fixed and not just avoided.

  • 'Send to iDVD" from iPhoto problems - photos don't show up properly

    Hi
When I send photos/albums from iPhoto to iDVD using the function: Share->Send to iDVD' iDVD opens up, but the screen is blank in iDVD, the project info shows the photos are there, but there is nothing playing - just the blank screen.
When I do the same action on our Tiger iMac it works as advertised, not so on our Leopard iMac.
All software is up to date - iDVD 08, iPhoto 7.1.4
    Any thoughts anyone? Thanks

Thank you. It doesn't actually "fail" in that it crashes or comes up with any error messages etc. It just doesn't show anything in the screen. I have pasted the Console entries that came up when I sent album to iDVD - can't see much evidence in there but you might?

  • Send Slideshow to iDVD

Hi - I searched the forum to understand how it works but did not quite find it.
From iPhoto, I use "Share - Send to iDVD" to send my slideshow.
The first time I sent - the iDVD apps was already launched but the DVD project was not. I thought, I could just create the project later and select the "slideshow" just like you would a iMovie project. But, there was nothing under the iMovie or iPhoto folders to select.
The second time - I created the DVD project first and left it open. This time the "slideshow" just pop out in the DVD menu, when the "Send to iDVD" step is completed. All is well.
Out of curiosity, I searched and found there are TWO copies of that slideshow in the folder "Pictures>iPhoto Slideshows" - differentiated by "_2" in the second file. Worse, there were a number of duplicates of other "slideshows" I have made in the past.
    My questions are:
Is it correct that to include a "slideshow" into the DVD - I must always leave the iDVD project open first? If this is correct, the next time I want to insert the same "slideshow" I have to go through the "Share - Send to iDVD" step again - which may take some time to send? Or, can I select the "slideshow" from somewhere in iDVD just like a iMovie project which is prepared for iDVD?
I assume the "slideshows" sent to iDVD are kept in the "Pictures>iPhoto Slideshows" folder - if I cannot reuse these "slideshows" since there is no feature in iDVD to select. Can I delete these "slideshows" in the "Pictures>iPhoto Slideshow" folder, as it takes up a lot of space. And how?
I hope someone understand what I am trying to describe.
    Regards

Thanks, Old Toad, for your suggestion. I am aware of this workflow and have been using it. Now, my issue is:
After I have the slideshow made in iPhoto and "Send to iDVD" - it does not appear anywhere in iDVD. But, the iDVD Help indicates I can just "Click Media button, then Movies and drag the slideshow". I now understand, I must have the iDVD project "opened" when the slideshow is sent. But, I also now undertstand from Terence I can drag from the "folder" and I was wondering which folder. I am now guessing it is the "Pictures>iPhoto Slideshows" folder.
If my understanding is correct, then the iDVD Help is not correct. Meaning, I cannot re-use the already exported slideshow from the "Media Panel" on the right because there are no slideshows there. But, I can drag from anyother place or folders such as the "Pictures>iPhoto Slideshow" folder.
I think, my vocabulary and understanding of terminology is not up to par to understand what have been explained to me. ANyway, thank you all for your kind attention.
    Regards

  • Posting slideshow on iweb from iphoto

okay, i'm new to mac and website design. i would like to know how i can add a slideshow that i made in iphoto and place it on iweb?
i'm using the 60 day trial. is this feature not available to me? in iphoto >share > send to iweb> the options aren't highlighted.
i'm very lost and any help would be more than appreciated.
    Marisa

    Marisa,
    Welcome to the Discussions!
I am not using the 60-day trial and I don't have that option available either. My best guess would be that slideshows as such cannot be sent directly to iWeb. What can be sent to iWeb, is a photo album containing the images that you built the slideshow with in iPhoto, and they will then become a photo page in iWeb. Once you have a photo page in iWeb, and publish it, whoever visits that page can view the photos as a slideshow in his or her browser. You won't have music that way, though.
Alternatively, you could export your slideshow from iPhoto as a QuickTime movie, and put that on your website on a movie template. Be advised though that iPhoto tends to create large files this way, and they may be too large for publication on a web page. I just did a quick test and 17 photos exported at medium size generated an 18MB movie... I believe iWeb advises us to keep movies under 10MB. Maybe someone here knows of a trick to compress that more.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sending slideshow to iDVD

How do I send a slideshow I created (w/ transitions/music etc.) in iPhoto over to iDVD to finish it off? My Pogue book says I can do this but doesn't really explain how. I need to complete a project by this evening...thanks in advance. kw

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First create a slideshow of that album with the "+" button at the bottom. In the slideshow mode set the transition, theme and music. Test it to make sure it's what you want. Then use the Share->Send to iDVD menu option. This will create a Quicktime movie file of the slideshow, open iDVD and add the movie to the iDVD menu window.

  • Moving Photo/Movie gallary from Mobile me to icloud then sending pics to icloud from iphoto?

    Hi,
I was/am a mobileme subscriber and have many photo albums and movies in my mobileme gallery.
I have a couple of questions:
    - How do I transfer my existing photo/movie gallery from mobileme to icloud?
    - How do I setup my iphoto 11 to send photos to icloud from the share button in the bottom RH corner? It still has share with mobileme in the selctions and when I try to share it fails?
    Thanks,
    Steve.

    - How do I transfer my existing photo/movie gallery from mobileme to icloud?
What happens to the pictures that I’ve posted to my MobileMe Gallery?
You can continue using MobileMe Gallery through June 30, 2012, even after moving to iCloud. You should save copies of all photos published to your Gallery before that date. If you have a Mac, it is likely that most of your Gallery photos are already in iPhoto. If not, you can sync the Gallery photos to your iPhoto library. You can also download your photos and movies from the web. Please read this article for details.

  • Why are images distorted when burning a slide show to iDVD from iPhoto?

I have created a slide show in iPhoto and wanted to burn a DVD.  Some of the images are scans from old family pictures.
The images present in the proper aspect ratio within iPhoto, but when I burn the CD in iDVD, some of the images are either compressed in from the sides or widened unacceptably.  Anyone know why the images are being distorted?

I gave the iphoto slide show a show and although I couldn't access the options in the idvd dialog box, I liked the end results better. I included 225 pics, and the random transition's option from iphoto enhances the outcome. The random transition option is not available in idvd.

  • Trouble when sending pictures by mail from iPhoto

Hello. Recently, while sending pictures with the mail function of iPhoto 9, some pictures have been transformed in tiff format (in this case the name of the picture is becoming PastedGraphic-1 (or2, 3 etc...).tiff.
The size of these .tiff files being at least 3Mo (or more), in general my messages never arrived to their destination.
This problem is not recurent: sometimes it happens, sometimes not, and you become aware of the problem when you receive an error messge of your internet provider regarding the size of the mail you sent and was not distributed because his size.
So this is a little bit boring....
Who got the same kind of problem? is there is a solution?

    Thanks for your comment.
The original pictures are jpg. That's making this issue a little bit mysterious..
One more thing: last time I got the problem, I was sending 7 pictures from iPhoto: two of them were compressed in jpeg, the 5 other ones in this PastedGraphic.tiff
Total weight of the message: 21,9Mo instead of 1,8Mo. That's the difference!
