Sending spreadsheets

I have posted this under another topic but thought this might be a more suitable place.
I have been sending spreadsheets on a regular basis for months via e-mail attachments with no problem.
Now I cannot get the spreadsheets into an e-mail either by 'drag and drop' or by paper clip icon. It comes up with a + sign surrounded by a green circle. I eventually managed to send the file by copy and paste but, unfortunately, only the 'open' file in the body of the e-mail and it was so distorted to be almost unreadable. The problem actually appears to be with any attachment not just spreadsheets but the spreadsheets are my main concern as it is causing problems with my work colleagues. The spreadsheets are created in Numbers - iWorks '8. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

A Numbers '08 document is actually a package, a special kind of folder that appears as a single file, but isn't. You can't e-mail a folder which is why many mail clients balk. Apple Mail will automatically zip a folder, other e-mail clients don't, especially web-based e-mail. In the Finder, Control- or right-click on the Numbers document & choose Create Archive… (Tiger) or Compress… (Leopard) from the contextual menu. You will now have a zipped Pages document that you can attach to your e-mail & send.
By default, Numbers '09 documents are flat files that can be e-mailed, but they can also be saved as packages which would need to be compressed. Any document that started life as a Numbers '08 file will remain a package, no matter what the setting in preferences.

I can't send spreadsheets using the Share menu.

When I click on one of the "share via email" formats to send a Numbers spreadsheet all I get is the sound/tone that happens when something isn't working. Mail does not open or anything. I have Mail set up on my Mac so it should work right? I am running OSX 10.8.4.

The most common cause of the share menu not working to send a document via e-mail is having "illegal" characters in the file name, most commonly a /. Stick to letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens & underscores & you shouldn't have a problem.

I updated to MAvericks and right after got a not that iWorks had updates, now my Numvers does not have key functionality that I need in order to send spreadsheets and worknooks back and forth with companies I work with. Under the File menu select Export. You'll find Excel as one of the export options there.

How do I get the Numbers application iOS 7.0.4 unstuck updating on iPad 2?

How do I get the Numbers application unstuck in updating on iPad 2? After the last update of iOS 7 it started acting up. Then weeks ago (in November) I opened the application right after iOS 7.0.4 update and while accessing a file it got stuck, some files are white and I can access them. Other files are gray and I can not open them. The application goes white when it first opens up instead of just opening then there is a delay, then it eventually opens. It is stuck updating.
I have tried various things. 1) Rebooting, 2) hard reboot (holding down the off button and home key until the apple icon appears), 3) tried putting it in Airplane mode-reboot-then connect to computer and iTunes-then rebooted. 4) tried opening a file in another application- I get an error message that says : can't open spreadsheet- this spreadsheet is updating, wait for it to finish then try opening. 5) sending spreadsheet- I get an error message that says : this spreadsheet is updating, wait for it to finish then try sending. None of these have worked.
I am at my wits end I use these files for my business and I am self-employed, some files I can't access at all, this is very serious for me. If you know how to fix this please help me. I transferred all of my NECESSARY and IMPORTANT client files to Numbers from Excel, I've been using Numbers successfully for about 1 year.

I copy and paste excel tables into my yahoo email using firefox as my browser, but firefox is not preserving the cell gridlines and colors... how can I do this?

i use yahoo for email. I often send spreadsheets inline in yahoo, and before i used firefox, the gridlines and cell colors copied into my yahoo email (inline). Now with firefiox I am losing the gridlines and colors. I looked in Firefox options but did not see an option to check for this. Please help

All Documents Numbers, Pages & Keynote missing after update Apps, What's the solutions for that problem?

I am using ipad 2 Wifi + 3G 64 GB, I had updated my ipad from ios 4.1.3 to ios 7.0.1 three week ago.
After that All aplication and all file can be opened properly well.
The problem came after I updated Keynote, Pages & Numbers, all files could not be opened & all file name is change from alphabetical to numerical. All file content 2 type of file, 1 BuildVersionHistory and the other one is index.
if i open the file ... spreadsheet can't be imported... the file format is invalid
or in Pages...

If I want to share that document via icloud ... Can't Send Spreadsheet.. To send this spreadsheet, open it in Numbers for iOS first.
In other case... I create a new file in Pages, Numbers or Keynote.. but all the new files can't view in Tab Apps when my ipad is connected to my mac pro via iTunes. If I create a file using other aplication (example using DocToGo), a new file that is created can be seen directly in iTunes Tab Apps DocToGo.
in this morning when i open Numbers all my files are disappear including new file without the reason at all, please give me the best solution. I need your help very very urgent.... since my working datas is very very important.

There may well be circumstances where documents in the cloud doesn't work for some people.
I myself have projects like you do, however our circumstances may be different or I may simply organise myself in a different way.
I tend to use documents in the cloud for working documents in progress, once they are completed they are then filed away in a more appropriate location. I do not try to use documents in the cloud for syncing my entire work history.

I'm having the same problem with Numbers files. The open on my iPad, but not on my Mac running Mavericks.

Having a problem with dates when I send my numbers doc to excel. dates are all out and that they have to cut and paste individual entries onto their spreadsheet. Any idea how I can prevent this

M…oSoft products aren't allowed on my machines but I use LibreOffice which is a clone of Office.
When I export from Numbers to Excel and open the result with LibreOffice, the dates are correctly treated.
To be precise, dates after 01/01/1904 are correctly treated. dates before 01/01/1904 are exported as strings but, as it's flagged during the export process, it's not surprising.

Can I send more than one spreadsheets in an email? How?

I am trying to attach multiple spreadsheets to an email. But I can't seem to select more than one on my iphone 5 to send.

You are limited to exporting or sharing one file at a time.

Sending an excel spreadsheet attachment on an E-Mail

Based upon program BCS_EXAMPLE_5 I have created a program that generates an e-mail and creates a spreadsheet attachment. The problem I have is how do get the contents of an internal table into the spreadsheet attachment?
My attempt at resolving the problem has been as follows:-
I have declared a variable document which points to the class cl_document_bcs. I have then instantiated the variable using a static method. I then call the method add_attachment (document->add_attachment) and pass the text content which contains two lines of text.
This creates a spreadsheet will the two lines of text in the first cell.
Could I use the binary content instead? If so how do I declare a variable that has the same type as a work area of binary content because this has a data type of RAW.
Any assistance would be very much appreciated. A copy of my code can be seen below:-

There is a faster scheme.
Copy the range of cells to send (it may be an entire table)
Enter the application entitled Preview.
File > Create a new doc from the clipboard
File > Send the selected PDF document (I'm not sure of the exact wording).
It's the highlighted one.
Bingo, it will create a mail with the PDF embedded.

Is there a way to send the reports with desformat=spreadheet to email(destype=mail). I tried to execute the commandline with destype=mail desname=[email protected] desformat=spreadsheet but I am getting a report with html type attachment. How could I make it xls(excel) instead of html

When having lots of repeating frames and fields placed in a complex pattern, the Oracle Reports doesn't know how to place them in the .xls cells.
You ought to have a second layout for the report (containing the same data) that would print when the desformat = spreadsheet and would be be rather simple in comparison to the one that would print when desformat=pdf/html.
In case you have several repeating frames it is best to have all the fields in those frames placed and vertically aligned on the same row in the layout, from left to right. This should give a reasonable output.

Hi Michael,
Windows (Excel spreadsheet app) will not open a Numbers document. In Numbers, Menu > File > Export To > Excel... and then send it.
It will most likely be zipped (a Numbers document is actually a folder of files that looks like a document).
If you are swapping spreadsheets backwards and forwards between Numbers and Excel, glitches will build up. Export and import are not perfect, but at least Numbers makes some attempt. Excel makes no attempt. You will be forever fixing those glitches.
Try Open Office or Libre Office (free) or use Excel for Mac to ensure compatibility.

Ability to send emails from spreadsheet?

I have made a spreadsheet to keep track of members of an organization I belong to. In one column I have a list of when people's memberships expire. In another column I have people's email addresses. Is there a way for me to generate an email list, that is, to directly send a group email to those members whose memberships are about to expire? For example, if I have a total list of 500 members and 100 of those members need to renew their membership, is there a way from Numbers to send an email without copying all of those emails out one-by-one on an email message?

I would sort the table based on the need to renew, then copy those by clicking the first email in that list, then scroll down then hold the shift key while clicking the last., copy, then paste into the to field of your email. If it is really 100 then you may need a mass email program as most providers won't let you email 100 people (for SPAM reasons)
