Sending to local user gives too many hops

I have set up Mavericks server for mail. Works perfectly for incoming and outgoing mail to other domains but fails when trying to send mail to a local user. Here are my settings:
example.com is my primary domain, it provides DNS and Mail service
there are other domains being hosted (web) with example.com providing mail service for them.
Mail Server setting under "Provide Mails for...": Domain Name is example.com, Virtual domains: myotherdomain.com, example.com (included in list, is this correct?), and some more
DNS settings: each domain has a machine record for the domain name (e.g. example.com has an A record, myotherdomain.com has its own A record), each domain has an MX pointing to example.com. Domain example.com has an alias (CNAME) record mail.example.com pointing to example.com. This is the only place where the name mail.example.com appears in the whole server.
Last night I tried to reply to a mail I received from a user on myotherdomain.com. My receiving account is also on myotherdomain.com (myotherdomain.com is one of my domains with MX pointing to example.com). When I simply hit reply the mail server eventually reported back that the mail was not delivered due to too many hops.
Here are the headers from the mail I received. I simply hit reply and got the too many hops. WHY?

Thanks for your help

Invoke the following diagnostic by launching Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities and see if there are any network or DNS issues reported:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
Also post the internal and external DNS translations of the following:
dig +short miniserver.example.com
dig +short mail.example.com
dig +short MX myotherdomain.com
dig +short MX example.com
dig +short @8.8.8.8 miniserver.example.com
dig +short @8.8.8.8 mail.example.com
dig +short MX @8.8.8.8 myotherdomain.com
dig +short MX @8.8.8.8 example.com
I'd look for a bogus or missing MX record for myotherdomain.com, to start with.
FWIW, myotherdomain.com is a real and registered domain.    Probably not yours, I'm guessing.  The example.net and example.org domains are also available for obfuscation, in addition to the example.com domain.

  • Too many hops

I have yet another problem. I have groupwise 7.0.4 running on windows 2003. everything is running great. But when i send mail, it sends me the mail back to me saying "too many hops". I think this means that its connected to the internet but it can't find a server? I don't know. Could someone help me on this? I had another problem earlier when i had a 550 relay denied but i managed to fix that. Now i have this problem. i can also receive mail just fine.

If you can get the headers for one of these messages, you can see where the loop is occurring.
If its a local loop, two orthogonal settings in the GWIA control this. You can specify a relay ( smart MTA ) host which will be responsible for sending the mail. In that case when you send mail to external @foo.com recipients, the GWIA sends it to the smart MTA you specify. It will resolve foo.com's MX record and deliver the mail. Sometimes this MTA is your spam filter if you scan outbound mail. You can also instruct the GWIA to send mail directly.
You can also specify an undeliverable mail host, a MTA of last resort, which handles mail delivered to the GWIA for other domains you may have. So suppory your GroupWise domain is glom.com but you have users on a different systems also known as glom.com. Mail for GW users is processed by the GWIA, any unknown recipients mail is forwarded to another MTA which, presumably knows the unknown user and will accept the mail.
So the loop will happen at these two touchpoints. You need to determine which hosts are involved in the loop, and why. Only tyhe headers will tell you this.
You could tell us more about your e-mail architecture....
    -- Bob
I can only tell you about the e-mail architecture at the moment because i'm away from the server. Anyways, i got eDirectory, IIS, a SMTP Relay server, groupwise and Groupwise agents such as, POA,MTA, and GWIA installed all on one server. GWIA Is pointed to this servers ip address to send mail through the SMTP relay. BTW, how do you check your logs for GWIA?

Actually, the stuff works in interpreted mode.
It's only when having the server partition compiled that this happen.

    Hi,
running a server partition that reads a configuration file,
and apparently doen't close it after, I have that exception:
SYSTEM ERROR: System Error: Too many open files, opening '....'with mode
    'r'
    Class: qqos_FileResourceException
    1) Is there such a limit, or does this rely only on the OS one ?
    2) How is this error not trapped, as I only got itinteractively, whereas
my server log does a exception trap/segmentation fault,

    Hi Jean-Paul,
As described in the Technote 10981 some Forte programs (Nodemanager and
router) handle correct the high-file descriptor-use problem. It is possible
that Forte interpreter do it correct too.

I tried to send it through gmail and the acct is  a POP acct
I'm not concerned about sending to the long address list. I just can't get the email and window that says "cannot send emai using the server..." to go away. The default must be "retry", because although I cannot see the choices at the bottom of the window if I hit return it trys again... and then of course comes back with the very long pop up window that I cannot see the bottom of so I can tell it to quit trying...

  • Send/receive issue after adding too many additional mailboxes

    Hello Everyone,
I am trying to solve a problem with Outlook 2010, together with Exchange 2007 (SBS 2008 server). I am not sure if I should post this in the Exchange forum, or the Outlook 2010 section.
The inbox (or actually all folders) are not updating when I add too many additional mailboxes via Account Settings>More Settings>Advanced Tab.
When i keep it down at 4 mailboxes, all seems fine. When I add a fifth mailbox, it no longer syncs automaticly. The user has to manually select send/receive in order to receive mail.
    What i tried:
    1) Fixing OST
    2) Removing OST, create a new one.
    3) Create a new outlook profile
    4) Tried /cleanviews and /safe switches
    5) Checked all Office updates
    6) Tried different Send/receive group configurations (altough it is to my understanding this should not apply for Exchange)
    7) Disabling cache (not an option, outlook crashes a couple of minutes because of the large size of the additional mailboxes)
    8) Disabling "Download Shared Folders" in Account Settings>More Settings>Advanced Tab
Could anyone assist with this problem? Thanks in advance!
    Regards, Anton

    Hi Anton,
As far as I know, Outlook 2010 allow up to 5 Exchange accounts to be configured in a single mail profile by default. But the limit can be changed up to 15 accounts by adding a registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Exchange
    DWORD: MaxNumExchange
    Value: a number between 1 and 15
Please try adding this key and let me know the result.
    Regards,
    Steve Fan

  • LOV gives "Too many objects match the primary key oracle.jbo.Key" error.

    Hello,
I'm using JDeveloper 11.1.1.3. I have created 2 VO's which are related to the same EO. In one of the views i added a list of value (combo box with list of values) to an attribute. In my page, i'm using the first view that doesn't have the LOV. Also in my page there is a button with a popup in which i'm using the second VO to list the values of the attributes and filter a table (which is also in the popup). Initially, when i press this button all rows are viewed in the table in the popup. However, when i try to filter the table using the LOV i'm getting an error:
Too many objects match the primary key oracle.jbo.KeyAny ideas?
    Mohamed

    Hello again,
Thank you all for your reply! I solved my problem. Apparently it wasn't a problem with duplicate data nor wrong primary key! I was implementing the LOV approach wrong. I was creating a 'List of Value' in my VO and dragging the attribute from data control as 'Select one Choice'. I was doing this because i thought i had to declare a type before i can use it in my data control. As i concluded, i should either create it in my VO and not use the default SOC option. Or, i could not create a LOV and use the default JDeveloper SOC option.
    Thanks again for your help.
    Mohamed.

  • Thunderbird: Search term entered is auto-corrected, gives too many (wrong) results

Trying to find email messages from Lowe's Home Improvement (lowes.com), entered "lowes" (with or without quotes) in the search field, which returned 1200+ emails containing the word "low" (without the quotes). There doesn't seem to be a way to force search to use the precise spelling, and not incorrectly auto-correct my entry.
    Am I missing something?

Using the Quick Filter Toolbar was an improvement, but I still get results (92 of them) that aren't properly filtered. Specifically, when I enter '''lowes ''' (with a space following the '''s''') I get all instances of '''lowest'''. Putting a space at the end of the search term should limit the results to instances where the word is, or ends with, "lowes", as the space should indicate the end of that word in the search term.
I'd understand if the search tools still need some refinement, but if Thunderbird search is actually designed to ignore or modify specific search terms in this matter, then we have a problem...

  • Viewer unable to display page when too many parameters are selected.

I have a report that the user can select multiple parameter values. When the user selects too many values and clicks the "Apply Parameters" button, the page will not display. Is there a formatting issue/bug? Is there a way to overcome this?
It does not appear to be a specific number. Instead, it seems that the page will only display when the number of values selected fit on two lines or less on the web page that displays the report results.
    Thanks,

I found this document on SDN for displaying paramater values in Crystal reports. There are some good examples in this report. I hope it helps. It helped me out with a simliar problem.

  • Outline stroke giving too many unnecessary points.

how will I'm going to deal with this? when I converting into this, it give too many points even it looks like it can can just a 2 to 4 points. Any plugin that I may use while still maintaining its shape? and btw i'm on PC not Mac. Simplify and Cleanup didn't work.

Expanding paths will very often still result in a tremendous point count. I have been trying to figure out the reason for it but this is not very easy.
Here is a screenshot after expanding an envelope containing elements that are basically just circles and merged circles. The result is absolutely unusable. Can't work with it. Simplifying the path gives a little relief but frankly, it's a far cry from the old days.
I have been using Illustrator since version 3. No, not CS3, version 3. That's right, the late nineties...
Now frankly, the expanded result on the right is something Adobe really should pay attention to. This does not only happen with envelopes, mind you.

  • Tab too many times moving to playback toolbar and restarting video

I am using Captvate 2.0.   I use Captivate to create what we call LetMe videos where users can actually move through the screens using their keyboard.  When I publish the videos, I have discovered that if I forward to the next screen with a specific key (Tab) and the user Tabs too many times, the mouse moves to the payback menu at the bottom of the screen and this can actually cause the video to begin playing again from the beginning of the video (if Enter is hit at the correct setting) or at least, move the cursor out of the active field so.  Many of my LetMes have a lot of Tabs in them.  We used to use a template for these videos that did not have the playback bar (it did not have a standard skin) but this template has a restricted window size which our software now exceeds.
Any ideas of how to deactivate this toolbar?  My users don't need this toolbar.  I have tried turning off the buttons, but the toolbar still remains active even through it is not seen.
I cannot use Captivate the way I am using it now and may have to look for a different product unless I can find a solution.
    Thanks for your help.
    Alycia

    Hi there
If you don't need the playback controls, just turn them off.
Click Project > Skin > Playback Control tab and DE-select the option to show the playback controls. While you are there, double check to ensure there isn't a border enabled. Click the Borders tab and ensure the "Show Borders" check box is DE-selected.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Too many AD security groups for ACS 4.1

We have an issue that when a user is a member of too many Windows AD (2003) security groups (roughly 65) they won't get authenticated by our ACS 4.1.
The 1st thing we investigated was the Windows Kerberos authentication issue. Which basically says that if a user is a member of more than 70 security groups then Kerberos authentication might fail. However we've used the tokensz.exe tool to calculate that the affected users Kerberos Token size isn't above the problem 12,000 bytes. Link to that issue http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc757478%28WS.10%29.aspx
On the ACS, when a user is a member of too many security groups, the error message is "External user not found". When the user is brought down to the "magic" number of security groups authentication works no problem.
At the same time on the DC errors can be found in the CSWinAgent.log file.
CSWinAgent 01/18/2010 12:25:23 A 0063 5720 NTLIB: Insufficient space for all of user [email protected] certificates
CSWinAgent 01/18/2010 12:25:23 A 0063 5720 NTLIB: Group list buffer is too small for getting full groups list.
So we are starting to think that the DC and / or CSWinAgent is causing us issues. Has anyone experienced similar issues?
    Thanks
    Stuart

    Hi Stuart,
We are hitting a bug here.
    CSCse49827            Bug Details
ACS Remote Agent fails users with too many goups
    Symptom:
Windows External Database authentication fails on the ACS 4.0 SE if a user is a member of
    too many Windows groups.
    Conditions:
This is specific to the ACS SE running 4.0.1(42) or earlier using Windows Domain Authentication
    to the ACS Remote Agent.
    Workaround:
Reduce the number of group memberships the user is part of or reduce the lenght of
the group names the user is a part of.
    Further Problem Description:
If a user ia a part of enough windows groups that the number of characters total of all the groups
exceed 1024 bytes the authentication of that user will fail.  All other users should still authenticate
    without any trouble
Please upgrade ACS to 4.1.4 and that should fix it.
First you need to upgrade it to 4.1.1 and then 4.1.4
    Regards,
    ~JG

  • Is anyone else getting a "554 too many recipients" when sending to groups?

I am trying to work from home, and a current project has a large number of people that need to stay informed.  When I try to do a "reply all" to the group I get a "554 Too many recipients" error message back really quickly.  Seems I can only send to 49 people at once...needless to say this casues problems as the group (so far) is 74 people...
Anyone got a work arround other that splitting up the group into two messages (what a pain)
Supposedly the WebMail interface will let me send to 100 at once, but I can't cut-n-paste the addresses from Outlook to Webmail without some MAJOR editing.
    Suggestions PLEASE

Hey Bob -- You are correct that there is a limit to how many outgoing recipients an email can be sent to, but it is 100 unique addresses.  It sounds like you may be having an issue with your Outlook program; possibly the way your address book is configured if you have more than one address saved for each person you're trying to send the message to.  The address book would be a good place to check first and then looking into troubleshooting the Outlook program would be your next step.  Thanks!
