Sending to STP from FCP

Hi all...
I'm sure this question has been asked, I just can't find it in the archives.
I have an interview that's been chopped up and edited in FCP5.1
I select the entire sequence and send it to STP for sweetening (I just want to mess with the Compressor/Expander effect). That part works fine. I get to STP and my clips are there. I click on the first one and select edit non-destructively (which I assume is the correct choice), save it, and start working. In the clip editor, it shows the ENTIRE interview audio, with markers showing where my clip is...which I'm told is normal. I use the expander and fix my clip.
My question: Can I copy that effect and apply it to the other clips.
OR, why can't I simply select ALL in the clip editor, apply the expander effect (which seems to affect the entire interview waveform but none of the other clips). Is that becuase I chose to edit non-destructively?
I hope this isn't too confusing a question. I'm trying to wrap my head around this whole thing.
Oh yeah, is the expander the right effect for this? I need more than just upping the volume level, becuase the interviewee speaks quietly and just want to up her without peaking too much.
Thanks in advance.
Jonathan

My question: Can I copy that effect and apply it to
the other clips.
you can create a custom user preset for that effect. as far as copying, i don't think you can, at least i've not found a way. what i've done is create presets and name them accordingly so i can apply the effect to other audio clips and then use my custom preset.
i should mention that i don't know soundtrack pro very well so i can't answer your other questions.
good luck.

  • STP from FCP

I'm having the hardest time sending a clip from FCP sequence 'send to' Soundtrack Pro Audio File project. That open is grey -- does anyone else have this problem and how can I fix it. At this point, it gives me Multiclip option -- can anybody help?
    thanks

I knew you could open the original clip in an audio file project, but as you mentioned, this can be time consuming. Again, all of this is likely because of how it was captured in the first place. So, you have a decision. You could recapture everything making sure your audio isn't linked, or you could work on as you are. It's up to you at this point. One thing you could do to save time. Open a clip in your preview window. Mark an in and an out. Now, open that clip in STP (not from the timeline) as an audio file project. Your in out marks should show up in STP. Using marks in STP you can work on just the areas of the clip you need to . . . not wasting any render time on areas of the clip you don't need.
    Hope this helps.

  • When sending to Color from FCP, my video is mostly black, with some green highlights.

I have a sequence of ProRes 422 (LT) and I'm trying to send to Color from FCP, however, when the project opens, the video shows up as mostly black, with most highlights green, blue and red -- but 90% of the frame is completely black.  The weirdest part is, in the Color timeline, I can see the thumbnail for the video and it looks just fine.
Currently, I have a 2010 Mac Mini with 4gb of RAM and it's hooked up to my monitor through the HDMI port.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I just got the 2010 Mac Mini -- but my previous Mini was the early 2009 model with only 2gb of RAM and Color ran just fine.  Any help/suggestions?

  • I want to send a clip from FCP to Motion

i am selecting a clip in my sequence and using the 'send to motion' menu but when it comes up in Motion it's not the clip i selected. It is using the out point for the clip i selected as the in point and making a new out point at the duration of the clip i selected.
    anyone know why

    Thanks for your reply Patrick,
No the clip has no speed alterations, the only thing bout it that i can see altered is that it a subclip from the original file that i captured in the same project.
Guess it might be a weird one then ay, there will probably be someone out there that knows whats up with it though,
When you are sending a clip or sequence to Motion from FCP do you need to have motion set up as the structure of you FC project before hand eg, ( DV- PAL) or does Motion reconize the formats from your FCP project that you are cutting on?

  • What's the best way to send a project from fcp to my .mac video gallery ?

    Hi
i have a small 14 minutes project i would like to post on .mac in my gallery.
iMovie can do it easily but thats to many steps from fcp to imovie and to .mac
is there a more direct way of transferring movies ( projects ) ?

You don't send projects from FCP to .mac.
Export the movie using a reasonable compression for internet playback.
Open up your .mac iDisk folder and drag the exported file to your movies folder on the iDisk
Open up .mac, create a web page and link your movie. I suppose iWeb does this as well but have never used the program.
If you want more help, try the .mac forum.
    Good luck,

  • Color crashes when starting from "send to Color" from FCP.

Hi. I am a film student and am using Final Cut Studio to edit a short film.
It's been recorded in PAL Anamorphic. I edited it in FCP, and when I select the sequence and send it to Color, Color opens, and crashes while "Importing Final Cut Pro XML".
Color seems to load fine if I open it by myself, but when it imports the sequence from FCP it crashes.
If I try to do it again, it even asks if I want to overwrite the project. I accept and it crashes again.
I can launch Color and open the project file, but it has no video inside.
I don't know why this can be happening. I could use Color before (8min projects), and I could even use it today (30sec project), but the video didn't load completely (3 shots, only the one in the middle showing, the others had a cross over them). I sent a larger file, to see if the problem wasn't with the "starting" and "ending" shots, but it crashed.
I don't have any saved Color project to try. What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Rodrigo

Have you read the release notes for Color and made sure that there are no 'gotchas' in the sequence you are trying to send to Color?
There's a chance that there's something in the timeline that Color doesn't like. Take that out or depending on what it is, 'bake' it in and you will increase your chances of getting the Send To to work.
    Good Luck!

  • Speed change messing up clip when sending to Motion from FCP

Im trying to send a clip to Motion from Final Cut Pro. In final Cut Pro I had part of the clip at regular speed and the other part of the clip I had at 75% speed. When it gets sent to Motion, the clip the is supposed to be the 75% speed one is a different clip. How do I get the clip to get sent to Motion and also have the 75% speed effect on it when it gets sent to Motion? Or, can I slow it down in Motion? Thanks!

You can just send your clip to Motion then make the speed change in Motion, that is the common workflow.
FCS 3 now fixes this issue when sending a speed clip from FCP to Motion, so with FCP 7 / Motion 4, sending your 75% clip to Motion will retain that speed change in Motion.

  • Sending multitrack Project from FCP to STP on another computer doesn't work

    Hello,
I attempted to search the forums but can't find my specific problem mentioned. I apologize if I overlooked it!
I am attempting to send a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project from Final Cut Pro 6.01 to Soundtrack Pro 2.01 on another computer. When I do, the video comes through fine but the audio fails to transfer over.
    Here's what I did:
First I open the Final Cut Project, highlight all the clips in the sequence to send and click "Send to Soundtrack Pro MultiTrack Project". I select all options including the "Fully Rendered Video" Option. This project opens up great in Sound Track Pro on the original computer. In Soundtrack Pro I "save as" and make sure I select "Collect Audio Files", "Collect unused audio files", & "Collect Video File". As far as I have read, this should be all I need to make sure all of the audio and video clips transfer together with the STP file.
However, when I place this folder (including the media files) on a external hard drive and transfer it on to our other computer (set up for audio recording and editing) and open it up in STP I get no audio. The clips visually transfer and all the clip lengths match up with the video, however there is no waveform showing. A straight line at 0db is all that shows up. I check the clips in the bin and they show the same file size as on the first computer. When I select an audio clip and take a look at the actions tab it shows the name of the clip and under it it says "insert silence" (which was not there on the original computer). When I de-select the insert silence the audio still does not play (the straight line on the waveform disappears). I try deleting the "insert silence" action and the same thing happens.
I have tried doing this operation mulitple ways with the same result. Am I doing something wrong? The only thing I can think of is the file starts out on OSX 10.4.11 and is transfered over to leopard 10.5. I just tried doing the reverse operation (creating the file from the audio computer and sending it to the video computer) and everything works fine. No idea what this means. I need this to work the other way around so I can begin the extremely intensive audio work on this film while our editor continues the video edits so thank you very much for any help that you can lend me. It is greatly appreciated.
    -Matt

Could be a difference in OS's causing the problem, but I can't say for sure. You could try using the OMF export option instead. I almost guarantee it will work.

  • Sending to ST from FCP

I do not have much experience with ST and have hit a problem with sending FCP projects to ST. I send the FCP sequence to ST and it appears in ST as a multitrack project. I make the changes and save the project.
From what I read in the help guide, any changes in my ST project should be reflected in the FCP sequence, but nothing is happening.
Can someone help me find out where I am going wrong.

you can export the hole downmix, or each track from stp to final cut. if you use the from the export menu send back to final cut pro sequence, you will find the downmix as active and the original tracks as inachtive.
stp don't send back all the tracks in a single way
    hope that helps.

  • Send to 'Shake' from FCP not working

Well i sort of lie, it does open shake and open a file, but it's never the correct footage. He's is what I do, tell me if I'm doing something wrong.
    1. Select footage that I need to do some shake suff with by highlighting it in the FCP timeline.
    2. Go to 'File' 'Send to' Shake
    3. Shake opens but with a completely differn't part of the video I am editing. The only way I have found for it to work is to actually export the clip and use the 'Filein' into Shake, which works, but is time consuming.
    Can anyone help.
    Thanks.

If you have a speed change or maybe subclips, you could get what you're describing...

  • Hey Patrick, why won't Motion open when I send my project from fcp?

I just started playing with motion... doing the tutorial. The first time I tried the tutorial, it worked fine. The next time, the project didn't save, Motion didn't open.
I tried the usual, repaired permissions, trashed the prefs. But so far, nothing.
(By the way, I just figured you would be the first person to read and respond to my question... you practically own this forum.)
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim and All-
I have the same problem at the same point in the same tutorial. The other tutorials may be better, but I am concerned that, being new to FCS, I am missing functionality I didn't know I should have. Like the commercial said, I don't know enough to know what I don't know about. I am coming over from PremPro and AE, and I am impressed with the wealth of built in features. I don't care for the idea of reinstalling the OS and all of FCS, but if it helps... If there are any answers to this issue, I would be glad to know. Thanks to all-

  • Sending from FCP

Bit of a problem, I have been happily sending my edits from FCP to ST without any problems. I am editing in HD. But recently I had to capture a series of DVCAM tapes to FCP. In FCP the audio levels seem fine, but send them to ST and the level gets boosted by around 6db. The result is all the peaks are in overload. Any ideas where I am going wrong?

If you have any funky characters in your file path (disk names, folder names, clip names, etc) like # or / etc... you'll send Shake into a tizzy...
    got anything like that?

  • "send to color" command from FCP not working.

    Hello there...
The problem i'm having is when I send to Color from FCP nothing happens.
I'm working on a project all the footage is in DV... very straight forward.. i've worked with color in the past so i understand the process of preparing the material for Color.
I restarted, created a new project, imported material in different codecs like pro res... and Nothing... Nada.
I have the latest version of FCP and Color.
i'm on a deadline so i want to avoid reinstall... any ideas??
any help will be greatly appreciated!
    thanks!!!
    andres.

Hello JP, Thanks for your reply!!
    Here are the answers...
Restart: the application and computer (usually the solution to every problem in life)
Created a new project In FCP.
I'm not mixing any codecs... everything is straight edits no dissolves, no speed change, just cuts, all the material is the same source an old school mini DV camera 29.97fps.
I'm trying to send a sequence form FCP. Actually the "send to color" command is highlighted.
    By nothing i mean:
I select on file menu "Send to Color" command and I see the prompt window with the duration of the project (5min) Name of sequence... i change the name to v2... and thats it. Color doesn't open... I tryed opening color in advance and same thing. seems opening script is not working.
Thanks for your reply and help!!!!!!
    best,
    Andrés.

  • In and out from FCP brings entire source file into audio project

In FCP I have created in and out in the Viewer from a source clip, done an overwrite edit into the timeline. When I "send to" Sound Track Pro from Final Cut Pro from the timeline, Sound Track Pro opens with markers at the beginning and end of the audio track. The markers are where the in and out points are in the timeline in Final Cut Pro. However, if I scroll left and right, the entire source clip is in Sound Track Pro, not just the in and out from the affiliated clip in the timeline. How can I make only the audio from between the in and out on the timeline only come over into Soundtrack Pro as opposed to the entire source clip? Is there a setting somewhere?

I'm not having that problem, exactly but something similar. I find that a multitrack project sent to STP from FCP opens find, but when I open an individual file in the waveform, I don't get just the part of the clip I had in FCP (and had in the multitrack), but rather the whole clip before I made in and out points.
Is anyone else having problems like we're having?

  • Audio Files Missing after sent from FCP

I'm sending a sequence to STP from FCP. There are 8 tracks of audio (4 stereo pairs). Tracks 1 & 2 have dialogue, 3,4,5 &6 have SFX and 7 & 8 have music. After sending a Multi-track project I am missing audio files on the dialogue track. The visual reference is there. The audio and video are linked in FCP but sections of dialogue are just not there.
I've repaired disc permissions, trashed preferences, ran Disk Warrior and reinstalled FCS. I'm on STP 3.0.1.
I searched the forum and was unable to find a similar situation. Any and all insight are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You have to assign tracks to a submix and then out to the master before you can hear them.
But some of the audio files are there and some of them aren't. There is no rhyme or reason for audio that appears and files that are missing. I can hear the dialogue that made it to STP from FCP, along with the SFX and the music. I've never assigned a submix to audio just to be able to hear it.
    Are you on a laptop?
I've tried it on my 8 Core Mac Pro and my 2007 MBP. Same result on both. I have other sequences where everything is sent over completely. It's just this one. It is no different from any other sequence. It is all ProRes 422 and .AIFF 48khz/16 Bit
    Thanks for your input.
