Sending web link in hotmail

Question

If I cut and paste a web link into an email, it does not become a hyperlink. The recipent cannot simply click on the link, it appears just as regular text. I use Hotmail. Please advise.

I use Safari and I dont see a "box". I only see the "reading glasses" and the "A's" for font size. I wish it was as easy and just copy & paste.   But I did come across a  Hotmail tutorial that worked for me:
Inserting links to web pages (websites, or "URLs") in Hotmail couldn't be more easy. First, optional step: highlight the portion of text you would like to be a clickable hyperlink, and click the Insert hyperlinkbutton on the toolbar.
Then type the address of the target web page and click OK. Alternatively, you can hit the Ctrl+K keyboard shortcut, and the "Hyperlink" dialog will appear; here too, just type the destination URL and hit Enter to accept.
If you do not highlight any text before inserting a link in your email, Hotmail will use the target URL itself as link text. (URL = the actual web address, which usually starts with http://)
