Sennheiser PC 330 Mic Not Recognized
I recently acquired a Sennheiser PC 330 headset. The headphones work beautifully, but the microphone is not recognized. I don't mean it's not hearing me, I mean that if I go into System Preferences > Sound > Input it is not listed, only the internal microphone and soundflower are listed. I should note that this headset has two cords, one for mic and one for audio, but my iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013) has only one input supposedly for both. The audio works when I plug it in, but the mic has the above issue when I plug the mic cord in. Likewise, when I use an adapter to plug both in, the audio works but the mic does not.
How can I make my iMac recognize the Sennheiser's microphone?
Hi there,
you are right the 3.5mm audio jack is a combined one for headphone and microphone. Every iPhone headset should work fine. Pluging in only the mic cord won´t work. Wrong connector placement. I tried a cord adaptor für. 4 pole 3.5mm to 2 3.5mm 3 pole jacks. But the external microphone wasn´t recognized.
I have no solution to this. Some tell they have luck with such an apdator some not. I suppose it depends on the used headset.
Look here:
http://www.startech.com/Cables/Audio-Video/Audio-Cables/35mm-4-Position-to-2x-3- Position-35mm-Headset-Splitter-Adapter-Male-to-Female~MUYHSMFF
They say something about:
Some laptops and mobile devices will not work with all external microphones. This is typically caused by an impedance mismatch between the microphone and the device. This is due to hardware incompatibility and is not a limitation of the MUYHSMFF adapter.

My internal mic sounds like crap - originally it was fine - now I am getting a horrible high pitched sound when I try to record in iMovie 08.
I've adjusted the input volume - no effect.
I bought a Blue Snowflake USB mic and it's not recognized at all.
Any suggestions? All that has been done - I dusted off my old windows machine and the mic works on that one. The manufacturer says that it works with Mac OSX...
I'm afraid that it's possible that the Macbook can't power the mic. -
Hi, I'm new on this stuff
well today I bought the Yeti USB microphone but it seems that is not working and is not recognized by any usb port on my iMac
I did just as the manual said and I quote it:
"1. Plug the microphone into your computer’s USB port using the provided USB cable.
2. From the main Apple menu, select the “System Preferences.”
3. Select the “Sound” icon.
4. Now select the input tab and select “Yeti Stereo Microphone.” "
When I plug the mic the mute button turns on like for a second and then its off
also the Yeti Stereo Microphone does not appears...
I would thank you if anyone could help me outIf you have followed the directions exactly, it may be that the unit is defective. Return it and try another one.
Let us know how you make out, -
Wired & wireless mice not recognized
Mouse always worked fine on P305D-S8828 Satellite.
On Christmas Day, installed some updates.
Suddenly, no mouse will be recognized anywhere.
I've tried all three USB ports, and a hub.
I've uninstalled the ALPS Pointing device driver, and updated it from the Toshiba website (as a reinstall).
No luck. The devices say they are installed properly, but none are recognized and usable.
I've bought a new wireless mouse - same result.
Could somebody help, please?
The touchpad is not adequate for lots of spreadsheet usage, which I need to do daily.Start uninstalling each of the updates you installed on Christmas until you find out which one is causing the problem, then re-install the others.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time. -
Since Yosemite, Snoball mic not recognized; regular input doesn't record either
I desperately need to get a video to a small group of students in India who are doing work for me.
I'm using Screenflow, which I know Apple doesn't support. But even in Quicktime and Garageband, I can't get the computer to recognize my Snoball mic. I can't find any way to record for these kids, because the sound is so nonexistent. I can't even record with regular input.
I think my computer may be 2.5 to 3 years old. Is it too old for Yosemite? Is there any way I can roll it back to whatever came before? Or is the computer ruined? Recording is one of the main things I need to do daily. And I've been non-funcrioning since before Christmas.
It was fine prior to upgrading. I don't know why I did. I should have known better. I really, really should have. I'm so mad at myself I could --- ahhh, ****, what the ****!
I've read tons of discussions on sound failures with Yosemite, but none matched my issue. Anybody have suggestions? Already reset the PRAM.OK, after another couple of hours of searching I found this:

OK! Thanks everyone for all of the help, but I just got in touch with Blue support, and it seems that the way they program their devices, the computer is only able to recognize one at a time. You can send it in and have them reprogram it so your computer can differentiate them.
Weird work around, but I guess that at least answers the question of why its not working.
I have a support request in to Blue, but I'm going to be upset if I have to buy another, different type, mic to get multi track recording. If that's the case, it will definitely be a different brand... -
Built-in mic not recognized by system
When I try to record with the built in mic on my macbook on Windows Vista, I go to the sound settings and under the recording tab the computer will have a microphone icon but it will say "currently available" and won't let me make it a default recording device. I'm currently on the Boot Camp 2.0 drivers. Anybody know how to fix this?

New Mac Pro owner, headset mic not recognized, help needed.
I feel like this is a really stupid question but I'm a mac from pc convert.
I recently got a copy of Rosetta Stone and need to use headset and mic. Rosetta Stone uses voice recognition for training skills.
I am able to get sound through headset but during mic setup nothing. Under system pref/sound I have input at line in/audio line input. Output I have set at headphones/builtin output.
Mic test is negative. Can anyone help me with this??
Thanks.I am sick and tire using Skype with the speaker on my iMac. I don't see any point spending $100 for a headset with mic.
Are you suggesting that as long I get a USB based headset it should work with the Mac? and no need to install any drivers.
Is there anything specifically that I should be looking when shopping for a headset.
The Microsoft LifeChat is only for Windows how could it work with the Mac, please clarify it for me
thanks -
Hey kids!
The Computer: Toshiba Satellite A355D-S69221
The Program: 32 Bit Windows Vista
The issue: Internal Mic not recognized, external mic quits midway through conversation, Realtek Digital output not plugged in.
So being the smart guy I am, a few weeks back I decided to do the smart thing and delete all the speech recognition software off this thing. I don't need it, so wth.
Now, my internal mic quit. I reinstalled the software, rolled back drivers, deleted drivers to rebuild the driver stack, did a BIOS update, did the GTA ViceCity cheatcode start (unplug everything hold power key 30 seconds, reboot, f2 to enter bios, f9 to update, f10 to save), and nothing.
I did notice that when I had the Realtek Digital Output set as standard, my mic jack was illuminated by a red LED, and the Realtek HD manager wouldn't pop up when I plug something in.
The last irritating part is that I will talk to my wife via vo/ip, the external mic I am using will just quit mid conversation, and I have to reload a driver to get it to work again. I am at my wit's end with this thing, can anyone help? The last thing I am goign to do is another system restore from an earlier date than I used before. Does anyone have any other hints/clues/ideas?
KFDThanks Jeff. No this isn't some kind of emergency so no one really minds my tinkering until it does get back up.
OK, I got it now. This is what my cyrus.conf looks like. It doesn't look like there's anything wrong with it...

Hello:
The best answer to your question will probably come from whoever made your headset.

Isight not recognized by Skype, Google Video Chat, Logitech VID and ichat.
MacBook4,1 Firewire
Leopard 10.5.8
Skype 2.8.0.866
Quicktime Plug in 7.6.9
QUictime player MIA
Here is my story. I will try and make it as brief as possible.
The other day, I put a rented DVD into my dvd drive, and it didn't load. I checked for updates for Mac or quicktime. Nothing available. I did some googlin, and someone suggested I zap pram, repair permissions. I blindly obeyed. That didn't help. Then I messed around with quicktime. Not sure what I did. Finally, I had to download the latest version of VLC to watch my movie. I have no idea of my problems with QT have anything to do with my isight issues with Skype and the like, but I mentioned it just in case.
The next morning, when I went to skype, my video wasn't sending. I'm not sure if my chat partners video was working, we usually only do it one way. Me sending.
I checked to see if my video was working in photobooth. Indeed it was (and still does).
I have to date:
Downloaded the latest version of QT (7.6.9 for Leopard)- the web plug-in for watching QT online is installed and running properly.
After install, the QT player does not show up in applications, or anywhere else on the hard drive.
I Messed around with QT in ways I can't describe. Trying to install older versions, removing who knows what files. Installing again.
zapped PRAM
Cleared preferences for Skype by removing skype plist
download latest version skype
deleted all skype files I could find
reinstall Skype
repaired permissions (FIRST THING I DID)
Put your Mac to sleep
Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by by choosing the Apple
Shut down your Mac
Start up mac
Shutting down, disconnecting power supply, taking out batter, putting dumte mac together again
changed permissions on skype specifically to make sure all accounts were read/write
tried setting using skype with a new account
tried using skype, google video and logitech using wifi at my work
uninstalled PREY video security app plug in
removed and uninstalled divx
removed and uninstalled perian
Checked Preferences>Video show a black screen that says "No Video Camera Connected" and does not show ANY cameras in the video camera chooser drop down"
NOTE: Google Video Chat does show the isight cam, but a black screen. Logitech just has a black screen and asks "where in the interweb is your cam buddy?
I have searched and failed to find CamCamX5.component
Tested video in Google Chat and Logitech VID chat. built-in isight not recognized
Tested video in iChat - I chat crashed when opening. (i posted the crash report at the end of this post)
I'm sure I'm missing some.......
SOME THINGS I HAVE NOT YET TRIED
ROSETTA - in the Skype info pane, Rosetta is greyed out. I don't know if I have it, don't know where to get it. Don't know if I need.
Installing Skype while playing Stairway to Heaven backwards
Reset SMC or PMU
Done disk repair - I'm not sure how to do that, I used to have a disc for my old mac for that
Deleted iPhotoPhotocast and/or QuartzComposer.
Closing Firefox and starting Skype
install older version of skype

I know this is a lot of info. I hope I didn't miss anything. I use skype with three people. Three very important people. Two of which, meh, the video isn't important. ONe where the video option is paramount.
I'm just a little frustrated. Thanks in advance for any help.Hi,
We will come back to iChat if required.
It does prefer an Screen Name to be added as you go through the Start Up Screens (First Run) but you can click through these and just access the iChat > Preferences > Video Section to view a Preview.
I must admit to not seeing a Crash Log when the known chosen Mic/Audio Input has not been listed.
However if the External Audio was Firewire connected that may explain things.
NOTE:-
mAudio and other Firewire Audio Devices do tend to need the Most up-to-date drivers to work properly.
Sometimes it pays not to do a COMBO or other Software Update until you know the drivers are ready for it.
With any OS update above the 10.x.1 point will also have a COMBO version.
The COMBO then includes all the updated items between the base level OS and the latest Update.
So for 10.6 there is only what is called a Delta for 10.6.1
There is a delta (10.6.1 to 10.6.2 only) and a COMBO (10.6 to 10.6.2) for the next update and this is repeated through 10.6.6
The Deltas only include those things that are Updated on that occasion (As in the 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 example - 10.6.5 to 10.6.6 would not include the stuff in 10.6.4 or earlier)
COMBOs can be installed "Over-the-Top" of what you have already installed.
It is certainly needed when you Re-install something (Apple apps/Files etc) from the Install Disk you have when your OS has been updated beyond that point.
Some apps like iChat Get their Updates in the OS Updates and need to "Match" the progression.
The 10.5.8 COMBO (Your specs say 10.5.8) is Here
For others the 10.6.5 COMBO is here
and 10.6.6 COMBO IS here
<hr>
Quicktime.
The Download and Install should be all the parts of Quicktime.
Internet Plug-ins for Browsers, various System Files to make Quicktime work for other apps, various Components to play various formats and of course the Player itself.
The Player should be in the Applications Folder with this icon:-
The OS 10.6 version (Quicktime X has a big blue X icon)
If you mean it has disappeared from the DOCK you can Drag the Application back to the DOCK to make the icon (and link to app) again (The app stays in the Applications folder the OS just makes an icon and links it for you by doing this)
One of the biggest causes of many apps not working is turning Off/Disabling certain Fonts the apps need.
Follow the Link in this Users Tip by Kurt Lang. Make sure that the Correct System Fonts are ON.

IMac not recognizing bluetooth nor USB mouse and keyboard
The iMac I use has suffered a pretty annoying problem. I typically use a wireless keyboard and magic mouse with the iMac (I could be wrong, but I believe these both use Bluetooth technology). First, the iMac stopped recognizing these. They kept losing connection last Friday and then suddenly stopped recognizing them at all. Yes, they both have full batteries and blink to show me they are on and searching for the iMac.
Second, I tried using a USB mouse and a USB keyboard to get into the iMac and fix the problem. But neither are recognized by the iMac as well. The mouse is a Dell model that has a red light on the bottom, and it glows red for less than a second when I plug it into the USB port before going dark again and not working. So, I can't get into the iMac to fix the problem.
I've read a few other things on the community boards. I restarted the iMac. I unplugged it completely for several minutes and held down the power button for fifteen seconds while the power was unplugged. I've tried multiple mice and keyboards, all to no effect.
Is the iMac not recognizing the USB keyboard/mouse because it's still searching for the bluetooth versions that it will no longer recognize? Is there a way to fix this without setting up an appointment with the geniuses?
Thanks!I'm having the same problem. It started happening on my Late 2012 model iMac 21.5" after applying the latest update.
What I found was that nothing seemed to work connected directly to the iMac. However, if you attach an externally powered USB hub, then all devices attached to the hub will work. It seems as if the USB ports are still working, but without power.
After I was able to get my USB keyboard to work, I was able to zap the PRAM (hold command-option-P-R while powering on) and then magically everything was back to working again. Unfortunately, this was short lived as the problem has resufaced again for me today, but you could give it a try anyway. -
Iphone 4 replaced dock flex connector/still not recognized by Itunes and charges very slowly
I have an Iphone 4 Cdma Verizon. Had to replace dock flex connector after replacing screen. The phone is not recognized by Itunes or the computer for that matter also when making or receiving calls , mic does not work unless i switch to speaker mode. Operating system IOS 6 . Any Ideas would be greatly apreciated. I have replaced the dock flex connector twice thinking I had a defective part. The charging display is not showing up either on the screen.
I have followed all the steps in the suggested corrections given to other users ( https://discussions.apple.com/message/18364680#18364680#18364680 , https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3956285?start=0&tstart=0) and I still con not get my XP to recognize my iPhone 4. When I follow the steps I get the same the specified location does not contain information about your hardware" error. Any Suggestions?

I have a Geemarc hearing aid compatible headset from http://www.sonicalert.com/products-listening-devices-CLA3.html and a splitter adapter from http://www.startech.com/Cables/Audio-Video/Audio-Cables/35mm-4-Position-to-2x-3- Position-35mm-Headset-Splitter-Adapter-Male-to-Female~MUYHSMFF connected to the iPad but the external headset mic isn't detected and the iPad continues using the internal mic. The headset uses an electret mic. I wear hearing aids and cannot use original Apple's earpods or in-ear headphones. The headset works but the boom mic doesn't and the sound is only picked up by the internal mic. Do you have any solution for this issue?

ES1946 (Solo) Audio controller not recognized
Dear all,
ES1946 (Solo) Audio controller is not recognized on my box. I examined dmesg, it said:
es1938: OPL3 not detected at 0x1090
I've listed my dmesg and rc.conf below. Could anyone kindly look into it, and give me a hint to solve this problem?
Best regards,
Wen
