"Sent" folder showing incorrect addresses in "To:" field

I'm using Apple Mail on a Macbook Pro. It was working just fine for months, but in the last couple of days I've been having a problem with my "Sent" folder. I have four accounts, each with their own folder in the Inbox and each with their own Sent folder. All of them are pop accounts. The problem I'm experiencing seems to be confined to a single Sent subfolder, which corresponds to a Gmail account.
Apple Mail seems to be scrambling the outgoing addresses that appear in the "To:" field in the list of sent mail. For example a message that I sent to "[email protected]" might show up in the sent mail list as being sent to "[email protected]", which is an address where I used to receive mail! When I click to read the message, the "To:" field on the message itself (and all the headers) appears correct. It's only in the list that there is a problem.
I tried all the obvious things: restarting the program, restarting the computer, and finally rebuilding the sent mail folder. Prior to rebuilding the mail folder it was only a couple of messages sent out in the last couple of days that were affected. After rebuilding, the problem seems to be affecting the entire folder. Every message has an incorrect address listed as its receiver. I rebuilt it again just to see what would happen, and it seemed to fix itself for a moment. However as soon as I clicked to another folder and clicked back, the list was screwed up again.
This is extremely frustrating... does anyone have any info or insight?

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), proceed as follows to re-create the whole index:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Im having problem in Mail. Sent is showing incorrect date and also not showing sent emails that have been successfully sent. Is it a virus?

Having trouble in MAIL. Running MacOSX(10.6.8) and in MAIL the SENT both doesnt show sent messages( successfully received) and doesnt show correct date sent. Any ideas??

Not sure about the time stamp problem, but the missing "Sent" mails problem is not uncommon. This problem is one that a lot of people have and in my opinion, I think it's a problem with Apple's mail application, nothing at the user's end.
Does this happen only when you include an attachment or does that matter? Also, does it only happen when your outgoing message is delayed a bit? Check your junk/spam folder to see if your sent messages went in there.
This doesn't fix anything, but you might change your e-mail settings so that all new mails are automatically sent Bcc to yourself.
Sometimes the "missing" sent mails are not going in the right folder. I'm sure you probably already know, but in the left-hand column in MAIL, under Mailboxes, there is a second "sent" folder way at the bottom, depending on your other e-mail accounts, such as Yahoo or Gmail). Many people have discovered their missing "sent" e-mails in those.
It is a big hassle, for sure, and has been officially reported. Users with complaints are being told that Apple's Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) systems block the connection from a user's e-mail client when it attempts to store outgoing e-mails, which contain attachments, to the users'  sent folder.
This is supposedly due to the Mac OS/Mac Mail sending non-standard or erroneous commands to the server, emulating the activity which would be generated by an attacker attempting to abuse an exploit in the IMAP server. I doubt you are doing anything wrong, so it's just a matter of waiting for them to FIX this annoying issue.

  • Sent folder shows my name on each message instead of recipient's

I like the new view in Mail, but the sent box shows my name in bold for each message instead of the recipient's. How stupid is that? Obviously I sent all those messages—I want to be able to see who I sent it to to quickly identify a particular email.
I can't figure out a way to change this—did I miss the view setting or something?

  • Mailman: Show recip addresses in To: field

I have a client, we're using mailman on his OS X Server 10.4 to manage several lists.
The client has a new list, with a new requirement.
The list is private, no self-subscription and managed by one person.
For security purposes, the all recipients of messages sent to the list should see exactly who the message was addressed to.
Normally, the To: would contain the list address.
They need: To: bob@domain,com, [email protected], etc
After some quick research, this does not appear to be a feature within Mailman. So I'm looking for options and ideas...
    One non-acceptable solution:
    - Because one person manages the list, the header or footer could be modified to contain "The recipients of this list are: [email protected], bob@domain,com, etc" The're not to thrilled with this idea because it doesn't show the 'actual' addresses the message was sent to. The members prefer more assurance.
So then I thought I would have mail addressed to the list address (mailman) then forwarded to the only member which would be a postfix alias address containing all the members. I tried that, but with a postfix alias to multiple recipients the received email doesn't show all the recipients.
    Any other ideas?
    Jeff

I can't see anything wrong here, can you?
(Of course, the Xxxxxx and myemailaddress is put there by me for the sake of public viewing)
I went into the Previous Recipients window and deleted the only reference to this sender and that didn't change anything. That person is not in my address book.

  • Why doesn't the "sent" folder show shared emails of photos through iphoto? on iphoto?

Every time that I share photos from iphoto to friends/family through the share button//email option, I end up with no record of it in my email.  Why not?  Where would I see a record of what I have sent out to friends and family?

When you send from iPhoto you're using iPhoto as an Email client. It's a very basic one of those and has no sent box. Neither does it sync with your other Mail applications, so they have no way of knowing anything was sent. That's why.
Options: bcc yourself when you send from iPhoto. (There's an option to do that automatically in the Preferences) or use a different app. Mail, for instance, has a Sent box and many, many more templates than iPhoto. (Check out the Stationery feature)

  • Wrong recipient in 'Sent' folder

    Hello,
since some weeks Apples Mail.app shows some strange behavior:
When I sent a mail and then open the SENT Mail folder, it shows wrong recipients in the recipients column. When I open the sent Mail in the SENT box, the wrong recipients are shown too, even though the mail is received by the right person.
I tried to repair the access rights with disc utilitiy - but without any change of this strange behavior.
Is there something wrong with an index or spotlight?
    I need some help, please.
    Tanks and best regards,
    Robert

    Hello David Gimeno Gost,
it is a POP account! But I allready solved the problem. I searched a little bit in the discussions and I found a tip you gave another user with similar problem:
After checking/repairing the volume, I deleted the envelope index. When I restarted MAIL, everything is corrected now. The SENT folder shows the right recipients now.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Incorrect Addresses from GPS

All apps in ios5 that automatically guess your address based on location have been incorrect for me.
All that's happening is an incorrect line is being added between the street name and the city. Instead of:
    1 Cowley Road,
    Oxford
    It would be displayed as
    1 Cowley Road,
    Risinghurst,
    Oxford
This is happening on all address around the city, as far as I can tell. Risinghurst IS a suburb of Oxford, but obviously not every address should contain this.
This doesn't happen with any other websites that automatically find address based on postcode and house number, so I assume it's an issue with whatever address database apple is using. I'd be more than happy to report this to them if anyone can provide me with details.
    Regards,
    Dan

The issue must be elsewhere then.
Searching for my address in google maps returns the correct location. It also sees other locations with the correct address.
Reminders, find my friends, other apps that automatically lookup the address (not just the location) show incorrect addresses.
Just verified through google maps that it is still correct, and it is.

  • Email sent with attachments not showing in sent folder

I have recently found that emails I send with an attachment do not show up in my sent folder. They are arriving at recipient but I do not then have a record of the email sent.  This is really very annoying and I can see a few other poplin online forums are having the same problem.  However nobody seems to have come up with a solution.  It appears I have to cc myself in to the mail and then move it to my sent folder when it arrives. I can't keep doing this.  Other emails without attachments are showing in the sent box.  Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this please.

Didn't work for me... (rebuilding the mailbox)
I cleaned the Sent mailbox and rebuilt the culprit mailbox and the general "Sent" mailbox.... sent a message.. it 'hung' in the Outgoing Message box for @ 20 seconds and it sounded as if it were sent and when checking the Sent mailbox for that account, it did not show.... I tested this again with another message addressed to myself and it sent as expected and showed in the Sent mailbox for the account... Did another test to a different recipient and the message sent as expected and showed in the Sent mailbox... The only corrollary that exists at this stage, is the recipient of the "disappearing" messages is that I email this particular recipient very regularly and at times with long threads... However, these last messages were completely different subjects and previous replies to this persons email sent as expected.... so this is a random occurrence.

  • A "To" email address disappears completely from email once it has been sent? In "sent" folder ok.

A "To" email address disappears completely from email once it has been sent? It is in "sent" folder ok, the To field is clear and the cc field is as it was. Not sure if the email has gone to the person or not?

I have discovered this site which claims the ability to do what you might want. I have no personal experience of it!

  • Sent Items Folder Showing Blank Messages After Installing Exchange Update Rollup

    Hi all,
Over the weekend I installed Update Rollup 8 on my Exchange 2010 SP2 servers.  Some users today have reported that their "Sent Items" folders in Outlook 2007 are either showing up as empty or populated with "Blank" items (depending
on how the fields are sorted).
If they login to OWA their items are all there.
The only commonality I can find between the people experiencing this issue thus-far is that they aren't using "Offline Mode" (which they should be, so I have been the support desk enabling it for the people calling in), but I am kind of curious
as to why this may have happened.  Does anyone have any insight they can share here?
Additionally, I have found the "outlook.exe /cleanviews" command which may help as well (have yet to try it on anyone's system where the problem exists), but it would be nice to know what the culprit may be.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Niko,
    Thanks for your reply.
As I mentioned in my original thread, I have not used the /cleanviews switch yet, as each person who has experienced the issue has had it resolved by enabling Offline Mode (weren't in Offline Mode to begin with).
Additionally, I have found that this issue has been around since UR 6 (see the comments section):
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/02/12/released-update-rollup-6-for-exchange-server-2010-sp2-and-exchange-2007-sp3-ru10.aspx
There are also some other threads on here where people have had similar issues that were either resolved by going Offline mode, running the /cleanviews switch, or completely removing UR 6 (like this one:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/211b662f-c5e6-4233-86b3-aaf7dd9408c5/outlook-sent-folder-all-email-items-missing?forum=outlook).
Unfortunately, as is my understanding, Microsoft isn't doing any new updates (other than security fixes) for SP2, which I'm stuck on at the moment until I remove an old archive program from my network.
So now I'm just curious as to if there may be a QFE or fix for this issue. I'll place a call to support if necessary, but I will need to grab some screenshots of users' Outlook that may still be experiencing this first.

  • Messages sent on device do not show up on Mac in ICloud Sent folder - Why?

When I send a message on my IPad, it shows up on the Cloud, but does not appear in my Sent folder in Mail on my Mac ICloud mail account

Joelrsny had the much easier fix:
For Sent folder not showing on the iPhone.
ALL of these ways work to add a Gmail account to the iPhone. Its not how you add it, its the settings in Gmail causing these folders not to appear.
Do not add the account to the iPhone first. Go to Gmail.com in a browser, log in to your email account and hit settings at the top right.... Select the Labels Tab at the top. On the right, you will see check boxes. Check all the folders you want to appear in imap accounts. Once you check them, go and add the account by just picking add Gmail account on your iphone settings for mail. ALL the folders you checked will appear...
    Done!

  • Email sent on my iphone 5 does not show in the sent folder in mail on my macbook pro and vice versa especially since update to Yosemite

I have an iphone 5 and a Macbook pro. Since upgrading to Yosemite, when I send an email from my yahoo email account or another email account linked to my website, on my iphone, the emails don't show in the sent folder in mail on my macbook pro and vice versa.
I have deleted the accounts and re-created them on both my iphone and macbook pro but the samething keeps happening.
When last I was at the istore, they were unable to sort it out and said I needed to book it in.
Any suggestions that will prevent me from booking my macbook pro in are welcome.

    Hi,
Are you saying you are trying to synch iMessages across two iPhones ?
Or do you mean you are trying to get iMessage that were synced to one iPhone to show on another ?
Whilst the first is possible - from the date you add the second iPhone the second  is not possible.

  • Why does mail sent using the MacOSX mail client not show up in my sent folder when I access my Gmail account in a browser?

I've recently started using my first Mac, and I hooked my work email (Forwarded to Google Mail) and my personal email (Gmail) into the MacOSX mail client. Everything seemed to be going smoothly, until I noticed that sent mail from my work email through the MacOSX Mail client is not showing up in my sent box on any other clients. Sent mail does show up in my personal email in Gmail, though.
Can anyone help me understand why mail sent from the MacOSX Mail client doesn't end up in the sent folder of my work Gmail account? I suspect it has something to do with the forwarding-to-Google process -- a sort of "too many cooks in the kitchen" situation. Has anyone heard of this problem before? What should I try?

I've been noticing that too.  Just told me there were 6 outgoing messages, even though I did not create any new messages.
One hypothesis is that it's generating those messages when a rule moves an email from one folder to another.
Can someone at Apple confirm this?

  • I added new email addresses but one of the emails never created a sent folder, draft folder or trash folder. How do I get them added?

I have a total of 3 email addresses currently set up in Thunderbird. Two of them configured correctly with the inbox, sent folder etc. However, one of them is missing all folders except the inbox. It allows me to email out but then says its sending to sent folder but never does so because it doesnt exist so it never goes away until I hit cancel. When I go into copies and folders its clearly checked that all sent items should go to a sent folder. How do I fix this?
    Thanks!
