Sent mail is marked as 'unread'

This just started happening a few days ago. No settings have been changed, nothing is different in how or where mail is stored. About 1/2 of the mail I send now appears as 'unread' in the Sent mail folder in Mail.
Why? How can I make this stop? I rely on the red badge over Mail in the dock to let me know there is mail to check, now I constantly have to open Mail, select Sent, click on my own messages and then return to Inbox to clear badges. Annoying, really annoying...
Anybody know anything about this or why it's suddenly happening?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Bryan

I am using a rule to deal with this problem (first select all sent messages and mark as read, the rule will then work on new messages):
If all the following conditions are met:
Date Sent Is Less Than 1 days old
From Contains youremailaddresss
Message Type is Mail
Perform the following actions:
Move Message to mailbox Sent
Mark as Read

All mail is marked as unread following iOS 7 install.  How do I fix that?

Ignore my last question.  This was entirely user inflicted.
The count that shows on the mail icon on the iPad shows the number of email in the "New" folder on my AOL account.  Some of these are emails that I read and then marked as unread.  In the previous versions, these "read and then marked as unread' emails did not show in the count on the iPad icon...but now they do.  Not a big deal...it's just different.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Sent email gets marked as 'unread'

    Hi all,
I'm getting two rather frustrating issues on Apple Mail.
Firstly, sent emails are starting to, on occasion (probably 50% of the time), get marked as 'unread' in my sent mailbox. This was not an issue in the past.
Secondly, my to do items are disappearing. The items are being stored on a local calendar (so no sync issues I would presume), and I create them via a note. The to do item on the note greys out and disappears from the to do list.
Any assistance for either of these issues would be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rhys

    Hi,
Do you have any add-in installed in your Outlook? If so, we may try to start Outlook in safe mode to see if this issue is caused by nay problematic add-in. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
outlook.exe /safe and press Enter. If this issue would be gone in safe mode, please go to File > Options > Add-ins and disable suspicious add-in to resolve the issue.
If this issue continues in Outlook safe mode, we may also try to login to webmail interface and check if this issue can be reproduced from there.
Please let me know the result.

  • Sent mail showing up as Unread; multiple Drafts that don't auto-delete

I found an old 2008 thread that describes this pretty well: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1372415&start=15&tstart=0
We're running Leopard 10.5.8, and the mail account is IMAP (not mac.com or gmail or fusemail, but our business mail hosted on a Verio server.) Recently, messages being composed and automatically saved as a Draft (which I know is normal) got multiple draft copies which do not auto-delete when the message is sent. Also, some messages in the Sent box show up as unread.
I think we've got Drafts set to save to the server. But it's worked fine up until just recently.

Also, is there a way for me to create/import my mail folders in the iPhone? Before when it was a yahoo account (rather than a POP) I could create folders in the yahoo webmail interface and they would show up, but that's not the case with a POP account.
Or what about IMAP? I think Yahoo Plus supports IMAP now, how would that work with Mac Mail?
    Thanks.

  • Mail messages are constantly marked as "Unread"

On certain mail messages, I cannot get the message to remain as "Marked Read"  - the message continues to come to my Mac as "New".  I have tried deleting message, manually marking it as Read.  Nothing seems to work.  Please share any advice.

This stopped happening as mysteriously as it started for me. The only change made on my end is that I added some seemingly unrelated filter Rules - around the same time (i can't be entirely certain if it stopped before or after the Rule changes) the proble with sent messages being marked as unread stopped. I doubt that the Rules actually had a direct effect, though perhaps it altered the structure of memory enough to stop the bug from occurring (something which I've seen many times in my 40 years of programming).

  • Sent messages are being marked as "unread"

Ever since installing OS X 10.8.3, both my iMac and MBP have been leaving sent messages marked as "unread".  Not all outgoing messages are being left in this unread state, but most are.  Any ideas on why this might be happening and how to fix it?  Is anybody else having the problem?  A search of the forums shows some old material that might be related, but I don't see anything that has any answers.
    TIA for you help.

  • All sent mail marked junk

All my sent mail is marked as junk for some reason. I've reset the junk mail filters, etc., but it is still marked. Any ideas?

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows to thoroughly get rid of all the files used by the junk filter, so that Mail creates them anew:
    1. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    2. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
    4. Locate LSMMap2 and move it to the Trash. This file stores information about what does and doesn’t constitute junk, and allows the junk filter to learn. Deleting this file is what Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset does. The file was called LSMMap in early versions of Mail; delete that as well if you see it.
    5. Locate any MessageRules.plist (Mail 2.x) and/or MessageSorting.plist (Mail 1.x) files and move them to the Desktop. This is where Mail stores all the rules, including the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    6. Locate DefaultCounts and move it to the Trash. This file keeps statistics about the number of messages that have been marked as junk, either automatically by the junk filter or manually by the user.
    7. Look for the account folders. The name of each account folder starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. Open each of the account folders, locate the Junk.mbox or Junk.imapmbox folder within it, and move it to the Trash if present.
    8. Go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. Locate any Junk.mbox mailboxes there (their name may include the account name in parenthesis), and move them to the Trash.
Note: Steps 7 and 8 may be unnecessary. Also, messages in Junk mailboxes with an .mbox suffix are stored locally and will be lost forever as a result of doing steps 7 and 8. If there is a chance that you have legit messages there that you want to preserve, either try skipping those steps, or move the messages to another mailbox in Mail first, or move Junk.mbox to the Desktop (to be imported back later) instead of to the Trash. Junk mailboxes with an .imapmbox suffix aren’t a concern because they are stored on the server and Mail would rebuild them automatically.
    9. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail or take Mail offline immediately after opening it, to prevent Mail from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
    10. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail and enable the junk filter.
    11. Go online again if you went offline in step 9.
    12. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
If the above solves the problem and you don’t have any rules you’d like to preserve or recreating them is not a daunting task, the files moved to the Desktop in step 5 can be deleted.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • How to mark email unread in ios6

What happened to the ability to mark an email as unread? I need help. This is how I managed my to do list.

  • Sent Mail Marked As Unread

In Lion Mail, sent mail is being marked as unread. Why is that? Can I change that behaviour or is this a bug maybe?

    A couple further details...
    Using a .me account
I sent 3 emails, one after the other, to my work address, 2 of the 3 show up as Unread in the Sent, though all 3 were received by my work address
Using the same .me outgoing server for all emails
There are no Rules in effect that would cause this
This seems to happen at random to only maybe 1 or 5 sent emails
They are going to both .me and other domains.

  • Why is Sent Mail marked Unread?

On my computer, when I send mail it goes into my "Sent Mail" mailbox and is marked as "read." That's the way it seems to me things should be.
However, on my husband's computer (both of us are using 10.4.4), the mail goes into the Sent Mail box and is marked "unread", which is problematic. Is there a fix for this?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

It sounds like you need to setup your account in your browser correctly and then delete Gmail in Mail and add it back with the new settings. See directions here. Most users have multiple Sent folders in Settings > Labels. Until you clean up online, it's difficult to get Gmail working in Mavericks Mail.

  • How do I delete all my sent emails on IPad 2?  I only get 2 options: Flag and Mark as Unread.  It doesn't let me Mark All of them.

Have been trying to figure out how to delete all of my sent mail on my IPad 2...it only lets me choose to Flag or Mark as Unread.  It will take me hours to go through and check off each one.  I have 2 years of emails in my sent folder!

Unfortunately, there is no way to select them all at once to delete them. You do have to select one at a time.

  • Mark Sent Mail Items as Read

A minor irritation I know, but is there a way using rules or scripts to have all sent messages automatically marked as read in Mail 3.0? I really only want to know how many unread incoming messages I have. I use Mail to collect for 2 IMAP mailboxes, so would want to apply any rule or script to sent messages for both of these, but not messages in the inboxes sent between the accounts.

This is the Tiger forum you will be able to contact people who have Mail 3.0 if you go to the Leopard forum.

Is it possible to flag e-mails and/or right click an e-mail to mark as read/unread, etc. when using Microsoft Outlook Web Access in Firefox on a Mac?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I've never been able to figure out how to do those things in Firefox.

When you use OWA in something other than IE, you're using OWA lite and no--it is not possible to do either in OWA lite (well, new Exchange stuff makes my answer a little less emphatic but still: pretty much no). Thanks Microsoft. But this guy made it possible to mark unread/read and select all/none:
