Sent mail mailbox not created with IMAP account

Hello,
I have an old PBG4 running Tiger that i use as a shop/travel/etc. 2nd mac.  I have 4 mail accounts. I set them up ( successfully) all the time on various macs and windows machines.
But now something's changed... 3 of my accounts are fine.  The 4th shows no "this account" airplane icon mail folder under "sent" int he left hand pane.  i even deleted it, re-created it, and its STILL not there. Mail is also not stored to the IMAP server. Yes, in the tab it says "save sent mail to the server..."
At the bottom of the left hand mailbox pane, the "this account" set of mailboxes does appear with a little world/beach-ball to it left. There is a sent mail box there, but it does nto have any (recent) mail in it - just older sent items.
I'm flummoxed. Any idea what is going on?  While you're at it, what's the difference between the mailboxes at the *top* and the duplicate at the bottom?
TIA!
Grant

So, VFEMail doesn't show up under sent, but has a Sent box within it below?
I wonder if you quit Mail andin the Finder make a copy of say...
/Users/YourUsersName/Library/Mail/[email protected]@imap.gmail.com/[Gmail]/Sent Mail.imapmbox and dragged it to
/Users/YourUsersName/Library/Mail/[email protected]@imap.VFEmail.com/[Gmail]/
If that'd work?
Hmmm, did we try this yet?
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.

  • Apple Mail not working with IMAP account

I have been using Entourage for my email with several IMAP email accounts. SOme of the accounts I was getting occasional errors so I thought I would try Apple Mail.
I am able to successfully set up the accounts in Mail (i.e. it successfully logs into server) however it does not get any of the mail nor does it get any of the mail folders that are on the IMAP server (viewing email using Web Mail or even going back to Entourage shows the emails on the account). Are there any special (hidden) tricks that I need to do to get Mail to work with a standard IMAP mail server?

I have a very similar problem. Apparently IMAP access is better than POP3. Well IMAP slows my Mac to a complete stop whereas POP3 is seamless. I deleted my POP3 mailboxes after successfully accessing my GMail accounts via IMAP, then it slowed down.
I've deleted the IMAP accounts a few times, but each time a new account is created it forces me to accept IMAP with no option for POP3. The help file also contains no information on POP3.
I get about 50 emails everyday and my usual point of email access has just become redundant, I must now rely on email via my browser and .
I made this change because the iPhone does not sync downloaded emails with Apple Mail. In Mail on my Mac, the one GMail inbox I have setup says there are 11 unread which it eventually shows yet none appear unread. I'll have to rely on web-based email until this is resolved.
Can anyone help with these IMAP access problems?

  • Problem with marking mail as Not Junk in IMAP account

    Hi,
I have an IMAP email account on Go Daddy that I forward all my other mail accounts for processing. I use Apple Mail to process this IMAP account and use Mail.app's Junk filter to move Junk mail to the Junk mailbox. This Junk mailbox is mapped in Mail.app to my Go Daddy Bulk Mail IMAP folder, and the Trash and Inbox are also mapped to their respective folders of this IMAP account's Mail.app is set to "Enable junk mail filtering" and "Move it to the junk mailbox".
When junk mail comes in, Mail.app correctly identifies the mail as junk and moves it to the Junk folder. However, if I find a message that Mail.app misidentified as junk and I attempt to mark it as Not Junk, the message gets a Not Junk status (not brown anymore), but the message stays in the Junk folder; Mail.app does not move it back into the Inbox.
I would assume that since both the Inbox and Junk mail (Bulk Mail) folders are IMAP and on the same account, that upon marking the message as Not Junk, this mail should be moved back into the Inbox, just like under POP.
Am I mistaken about the operation of Junk mail under IMAP? Should marking a message as Not Junk move it automatically to the Inbox? Do I have my folders and options set right? Should I possibly use a 3rd party Spam filter such as SpamSieve (where I can control its actions via Applescript)?
    Thanks for any info.
    Mike

Ah Ernie, I think you found out my "problem".
Before I upgraded to SN, I used SpamSieve to manage my POP SPAM. When I changed to SN, I did away with SpamSieve and POP, and used IMAP and Mail.app's Junk filtering. SpamSieve, since its "Mark As Junk" and "Mark As Not Junk" functionality uses Applescript, it must've moved the Not Junk message back to the inbox.
Thanks for the pointer; I may change back to SpamSieve to get back that functionality.

  • Mail does not work with gmail accounts anymore

Since yesterday or so, my google mail accounts don't connect anymore. All of them. All other accounts are still working.
    - Connection doctor tells me the standard "couldn't connect, check if its really port 993 blah" thing.
    - I'm on 10.9.5
    - I tried remove one of the accounts under Internet Accounts and "re install" it, which worked partially: Internet Accounts accepted the google password, and added the account. I ticket Emails. It reappeared in Mail, but still with connection issues (and now no emails what-so-ever associated with that account).
    What can I do next?

Have you checked your incoming and outgoing mail server settings?
If you are using IMAP, it should look something like the following:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    imap.gmail.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL:Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires TLS
    smtp.gmail.com
    Port: 465 or 587
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Requires authentication: Yes
Use same settings as incoming mail server
If you are using POP3, it should look something like the following:
    Incoming mail server type: POP3
Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: pop.gmail.com. Google Apps users, enter the server name provided, don't add your domain name in these steps.
              Port: 995
Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) name: smtp.gmail.com
         Port: 465
    Outgoing server requires authentication: enabled

  • Mail app not working with Yahoo account

I am using an iPhone 6 plus on iOS 8.1 and suddenly my Yahoo email account will not populate to my Mail app. I have deleted and re-added the account and also re-booted the phone with no luck. I get the spinning wheel up by my Wi-Fi signal that suggests it's attempting to do something, but the bottom of the Inbox only says "Updated Yesterday." Has anyone else experienced this or can someone, especially an Apple employee, tell me how to fix this?

There is no Apple in this user to user technical forum, if you want an Apple employee you would need to take your phone to the Apple store.
What happens when you switch to using cellular data?  Does your email update?
FYI - Yahoo email account is notoriously bad, you can try their app.

Mail does not create new emails based on the highlighted mailbox, but rather according the receiving mailbox of whatever individual email happens to be highlighted. This was not the case prior to Lion. Is this a bug or an error on my part? (I do have the setting for creating new emails from the highlighted mailbox checked.)

The questions about time was not only because of thinking about the Time Machine, but also possible impact on recognizing which messages remaining on a POP server (doesn't apply to IMAP) have been already downloaded. In the Mail folder, at its root level, in Mail 3.x there is a file named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3 that should prevent duplicate downloading -- some servers may not communicate the best with respect to that, and the universal index must certainly be involved in updating that index file. If it corrupts, it can inhibit proper downloading. However, setting the account up in a New User Account and having the same problem does not point that way, unless your POP3 server is very different from most.
That universal index is also typically involved when messages are meant to be moved from the Inbox to another mailbox -- in Mail 3.x the message does not move, but rather is copied, and then erased from the origin mailbox. That requires updating the Envelope Index to keep track of where the message is, and should keep track of where it is supposed to have been removed after the "Move".

  • Problems with IMAP account in mail

Recently I reconfigured my email accounts from POP to IMAP. My provider supports both.
With POP, never experienced problems in Mail (Lion)
With IMAP, I always get the exclamation mark behind the mailbox name.
Sending messages is no problem. Receiving works from time to time, but i'll always see that error. When I click on the mark, it says that the server returned a fault: reading information from server 'imap.myserver.be' failed.
I checked the settings several times and all is correct. I contacted my provider and everything works fine on their side.
It's very annoying because I'm not sure everything works flawlessly.
Anyone any idea how to solve this issue?

    Hi,
I am working on this in a topic with another person with some IMAP issues. I have 4 IMAP accounts, and in two of them Use IDLE is checked and in the other 2 it is not. But neither of the ones checked is gray -- in screenshots for support I have not seen it grayed out either.
I think it might be worthwhile to setup the account to NOT have that selected if that can be done -- it may happen by default, but perhaps if caught during setup, not. One very safe way to do this would be to create a New User Account on your Mac, and as that New User, set up Mail to use this same IMAP account, taking care to see if that can be left Unchecked. However, it may happen automatically by some process.
You can also, in your normal User Account, safely remove any IMAP account, if all mailboxes of importance are stored on the server, and add it again. However, let me know first if you have any other accounts in Mail other than this IMAP?

  • I can't send mail with IMAP account

I have two accounts set up on my iPad, a POP account and and IMAP account. I can send emails on the POP account ok but not from the IMAP account. It is a new email address and I could send emails from it but now it has stopped sending. It says the recipient was rejected by the server or the sender was rejected by the server. No settings have been changed.
    Any ideas?
    Many Thanks

i think to see al the Sent mailbox present both in the main section both in the imap tree. (see pictures from http://www.pv.infn.it/~bellomo/archivio/Picture%201.png and http://www.pv.infn.it/~bellomo/archivio/Picture%203.png) i've tried to change and use any of the Sent folder as Mail Sent folder from menu, i can change them but trying to send a mail always leave the Sent folder without messages.
Notice that a couple of mails have been copied to Sent folder .... but others not: is so strange !!!
I've tried just after one mail was copied and get the other one not ...

  • Sent mail does not appear in sent mailbox after sending

Sent mail does not appear in sent mailbox after sending

From reports on this site, Yahoo mail doesn't work reliably with Mail. The following steps may help.
Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Mail.app and purging of moved messages with IMAP accounts?

I REALLY want to like Mail.app but one item that has caused frustration for years is the handling (or lack) of handling of my messages once moved to another folder with IMAP accounts. I would like for Mail.app to purge/expunge the messages from the server automatically when the message is moved but it doesn't seem to complete that transaction until you actually quit out of mail.
I use multiple computers and I don't remember to quit out of Mail.app going from one of my Macs to another and don't want to but I'm getting tired of having to file the messages twice (or more). Is there a way to set Mail.app to do the automatic instant purging (or expunging) of the messages from the originating folders without having to quit out of the application? This seems to be the default behavior for nearly every other mail client I've used, including Entourage and is an option in Outlook and Outlook Express (PC).

same is true with popmail, not just imap.
moreover, i think hitting "remove now" just puts content in your server's trash folder, meaning it's still taking up disk quota and you'll never know till you stop getting mail...

  • After installing Mavericks on my iMac, Apple Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account.  Now Mail crashes every time I open it.  What's up?

After installing Mavericks on an imac, Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account.  After I clicked on All Mail the program crashed and now it crashes every time I open Mail.  Does anyone have an suggestions?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

So, Where sent messages are stored?
Because if I go into my email account nothing appears in the outbox?Of course not. Why would it appear in your e-mail reader's outbox when your e-mail reader did not send the e-mail ?
    my Pl/sql looks like:
    BEGIN
    utl_mail.send(sender => '[email protected]',
    recipients => '[email protected]',
    subject => 'Test',
    message => 'HOlix');
END;And this results in the Oracle database server to contact the mail server and send the mail. Your e-mail client is not part of this process. Your e-mail reader does not know about that e-mail. Your e-mail reader is a client- not a server. It has no reason to know what another e-mail client (your PL/SQL code) send or did not send.
You want an outbox? You need then to design and code one for your PL/SQL mail client.
I dont understand what happen?Perhaps you should read up on WHAT a mail (SMTP) server is, HOW it works, and WHAT a PPOP3/IMAP mailbox is, and HOW that works?

  • Mail crashes when connecting to IMAP accounts

    Hi all,
I have mail set up to check 5 different accounts. One is a POP account and 4 are IMAP accounts (2 gmail, 2 other mail providers).
Initially I had no problems at all with this setup. Mail had mirrored all 4 IMAP accounts and was downloading new messages without a problem. One day, however, something went awry and every time I took one of my Gmail accounts online, Mail would crash. I figured I'd leave that account offline and keep checking that gmail account the regular way.
This worked for a while. More recently though Mail has started crashing when any of my IMAP accounts are taken online. If I leave the 4 IMAP accounts offline and only the POP account online, it does not crash.
Here is what I've tried so far:
    Repair permissions/disk.
Erase and Install Tiger (up to 10.4.11)
Moving .mbox files to the desktop and letting mail download the inboxes again (not ideal, the largest inbox is 800MB and a gmail one)
Removing the accounts and starting from scratch.
Nothing seemed to change a thing, Mail now crashes on startup if the IMAP accounts are online (if I take that Mailbox offline, Mail works fine).
I checked the crash reports (which I have been reporting to Apple like crazy, not that they seem to have noticed), and it always seems to be Thread 0 that crashes. Here are the last two crashed Thread 0s:

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have no idea whether this will help or if it's even what resolved my same recent imap problems that involved primarily *GMAIL imaps*, but it seems to be helping.
First, make sure all imap accounts are dragged up to the very top of the inbox/accounts list: *imaps above pops*
(Any IMAP accounts that have multiple folders should be at the top of the imaps).
Second, go into Mail > preference > accounts > [ each imap account ] > Advanced Tab
Above the box for the Port is *_IMAP Path Prefix_:* Type in INBOX
(reminder: If it's gmail, make sure your port is 993 and Use SSL is checked.)
Hope this helps. so far this is what seems to have helped w/mine (i have other problems such as zero results in my smart mailboxes--they no longer work).
I also have a different imap account not google/gmail and I don't use INBOX in the path prefix on that one and it has always worked just fine; the problems started with gmail imaps.
i'll be interested to know if it helps anyone else.
(Note: I manually synchronize the gmail IMAP accounts because having the auto synch box checked also seems to cause problems but your experience may vary)
    cheers!
now if anyone can tell me why after all these years apple has not fixed the lookupd / dns / network bugs that result in this (among other similar failures)

    Dear Akash, dear Abdul,
you probably have encountered a network timeout from your local machine to the HANA Cloud Platform after initiating the account creation.
Can you please check if you received the Welcome e-mail for the account creation you initiated? If you have received the e-mail with title "Welcome to SAP HANA Cloud Platform", your account was successfully setup and just the feedback from the creation could not be returned to you. You can then go ahead and use the links from the e-mail.
In case you have not received a Welcome e-mail, please post the user (pXXXXXXXXXX) and we will look into the details.

  • Mail doesn't save sent mail on one of my email accounts.....

Mail doesn't save sent mail on one of my email accounts. I have several accounts, but on one of them it just doesn't save any mail I send. Is there a hidden setting I've missed somewhere? I did delete the account and then reset it, but it took out all of my emails to that address so I'm loathe to do that again!

I'm lucky enough to have two Macs running OS X 10.9 next to each other, both using the same network, and sharing a common Exchange mail server. My corporate machine (an first gen' Aluminium iMac) has both Outlook and Mail installed. My personal machine (a 13" MacBook Air) has only Mail installed.
Neither install of Mail is guarenteed to write sent messages to the Exchange Sent folder (it might happen, it might not). Both write perfectly to other common mail servers (e.g. GMail). Outlook writes perfectly to the Exchange server, but generally functions less effectively as a mail client than Apple Mail.
The failure to write to the Exchange server only happened after the upgrade.
    It's quite frustrating.
