Sent mail missing from my Gmail account.

Yesterday I found several years of sent mail had gone from my gmail account on Mail and also in my web Gmail account.  Fortunately I have Time Capsule as a back up and so I was able to restore my sent mail.  That enabled me to explore when it happened.  My sent mail was there on morning of 18 november but gone by morning of 19 November.  Apple helpfully records the dates of updates and I ran the software up date for mavericks to fix bugs in Gmail on afternoon of 18 November.  I looked at my Gmail mail preferences in Mail and was surprised to find sent mail set to delete sent mail on quitting Mail.  That was not my setting ( I have not been into my Mail preferences for some weeks) and must have happened during the software update.  I typically shut down my MacBook Pro at night so after the update on 18 November and shut down near midnight, my sent mail was deleted.  So warning to check your Mail preferences for Gmail after running this update.  If anyone has an explanation for why the Gmail sent mail settings changed with the software update I would be interested.

Hi APK25,
If your Sent messages aren't showing up where you expect them to, you may want to take a look at the following article:

  • Mail sending from 2 gmail accounts at the same time

I currently have 2 gmail accounts, one is a Personal account that I use 90% of the time and the other is a Family account. I have them set up to sync through Apple Mail. Since upgrading to Mavericks, whenever I send an email from my Personal account, it appears that it is sending from both accounts even though I only selected to send from my Personal account. The most frustrating part is that the recepients show that it is coming from my Family account. Therefore, when they reply to my original email, the reply comes to my Family account. Does anyone else experience this or have a solution?
    Thanks

Think I solved my own problem. It seems I just needed to delete both of my gmail accounts from Mail, restart computer, and re-add the accounts. Seems to be working now.

  • Very old 'Sent' mail missing from mailbox - help?

I've got a question about (really) old mail in my Sent mailbox. I went today to look for some very old messages (around 9/2001), and the earliest mail available to me is from Jan 1, 2003.
Does Mail archive or delete mail after it passes a certain age?
If so, how can I find my old mail?
    Jim

Jim, I had thought that if you select Never as time after which sent mesages are deleted that they would stay saved on your hard drive.

  • Emails that I send from my yahoo account are being sent from my gmail account - I checked to see in Mail preferences if I had set gmail as my preferred server ( I had not).  This has happened on my iMac and Macbook Pro - both running on Yosemite.

Emails sent from my Yahoo account are arriving from my Gmail account?! How? This has only started happening today.

  • Getting all mail from a gmail account

I am trying to download all my old emails from an gmail account via thunderbird. The main reason is for backup. The problem is that each time I push on GET MESSAGES it only downloads a few mails. I need to wait till it ends and then click again and so on. It will take a lot of time from my work. Is it any way to download all at a time or at least a huge amount each time???
I am using a MacBook Pro, running MAC OS X 10.9.5 and thunderbird 31.2.0.
    Thanks in forehand

Note the google backup file is mbox format, that is Thunderbird mail format, so use this add-on to import to Thunderbird if you want to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/

  • I haven't gotten any incoming mail in the past 3 days from my gmail account which worked fine previously. What settings should I check?

I suspect my settings for Mail are incorrect and are causing my iPad 2 not to receive new mail from my gmail account. I have experimented with various settings and at this point Mail is non functional; no incoming or outgoing. I'm using WiFi not a data plan. Can someone please tell me what my settings should be to correct my problem?

If you tinkered with the actual settings for gmail in the mail app, you may have done more damage than good. Sometimes it's best to delete the account and start over again, rather than try to adjust settings that worked previously.
Before you delete the account and start over (if you are consodereing that) try force closing mail, reset your iPad and try mail again.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    Hello there, Siew Hwee.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for troubleshooting the issue you're describing:
iOS: Gmail account will not connect to Gmail server
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3058
    Resolution
Check that your device is connected to the Internet by opening Safari and loading a webpage, such as google.com. If you cannot connect to the Internet, try the steps in this article.
If you have other email accounts on the device, check if those accounts can send and receive email.
If the issue is isolated only to the affected Gmail account, visit this website:https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha.
Complete the form to unlock the account.
If the issue persists, follow this Google support article.
Once the account has been unlocked, or the correct password entered, check that the issue is resolved. If not, remove the affected Gmail account from the device and add it to the device again: Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars > Add Account > Gmail.
    Additional Information
If the issue persists after following the above steps and your Gmail account is checked by more than one device or computer, get more information about this issue. If the issue persists, consult Gmail's support site. These articles may help:

  • Not Receiving Emails from my Gmail Account in Mail

I am not receiving my e-mails from my Gmail account. I have not received any since 31 Dec 2010. I have gone thru the Gmail web site to look at my mail & I have received several since 31 Dec. I've used the Connectivity Doctor & all three go green, but I'm still not getting my Gmail. I heard today about some issue with the iPhone & alarms - could this be connected with that? What's the problem?

If you unable to do it from your phone then do it using the web portal
    navigate to https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=sprint
Create new account using your device pin and imei number.
login to the account and move your mails to the new device.
    Thast all
But remember that if you unable to browse from phone using wirless network not wifi then it wll not work
I think it will solve your problem
    Take care

  • Email sent from one gmail account returns to a different gmail account

We have and iPhone 5s and an iPhone 6 as well as an iPad 2 and a MacBook Pro . The operating system is current on all of them. Something has changed such that when we send gmail messages from one gmail account replies are received in a different gmail account. This happens on all devices. What kind of setting do we need to change to correct this problem?

Try Mail/Preferences/Accounts /Account Information. Select an account, then go to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). From the drop down menu select Edit SMPT server list. Then set up a server for each mail account so that is associated with the e-mail address. Then go to each account and set that server as the Outgoing Mail Server (SMPT). You can click Use only this server if desired.

Did you also empty the trash can?   If you did not empty the trash, then likely mail moved the messages to the trash folder on GMAIL.

  • Issues with Mail and SMTP and Gmail Accounts

So this isn't a question....more like a solution that I had to figure out.
We have multiple gmail accounts in our family and after upgrading to OSC Yosemite our gmail accounts wen't haywire.  My wife was sending emails that eventually were sent from my gmail account (mass neighborhood emails at that.....and all replies came to me instead of her).  I spent about 2 hours investigating and put together several different threads that finally fixed out problem.  The root of the issue is that you can share the same Incoming Mail Server for all of your gmail accounts and your mail will go to the accounts that it is supposed to go to, but you have to have individual Outgoing Mail Servers for each of your accounts otherwise all outgoing mail will come from one account only.  I don't know why this happened, it is a pain in the butt, but here's how I fixed it with 3 gmail accounts running through 1 mac.
1st - you need to remove all of your gmail accounts from mail via Internet Accounts in Settings. Just highlight the account and hit the minus sign at the bottom.  You won't lose anything if you have your gmail settings set to default which backs everything up to Google's servers....it will all load back to you mac and it will all be available online at gmail.com
2nd - you need to add back all of your accounts one at a time (and follow all of the following steps for each account before adding another).  Select the plus sign and choose Google (for gmail accounts only).
3rd - Give your gmail account a recognizable name in the "Name" field (if you have multiple Gmail accounts to add, you will want to distinguish between them).
4th - type in your username ([email protected]) and password.  Make sure to add the suffix @gmail.com.
5th - Check the boxes that you want to add to your mac (mail, contacts, calendars, messages, notes).
6th - Click the "Details" button to ensure that you have an adequate description (see # 3 above) if you are going to have multiple gmail accounts to add.
7th - Open the Mail app.
8th - From Mail Preferences/Account Information Tab - make sure that you account is Enabled (check box next to "Enable Account", make sure that you have an adequate description name, email address is correct, Incoming mail server is imap.gmail.com, Username is your normal gmail login username (absent any suffix like .gmail.com), password is your gmail password.
9th - Then, from Preferences click on the Advanced tab and....Uncheck "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".
10th - Then, go back to Account Information Tab and.....from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) dropdown box, select Edit SMTP List....
11th -  You need to create an individual SMTP Server Account for each gmail account that you plan to add.
12th - To do this click the plus button.  Server Name should always be smtp.gmail.com.  Type in your own Description (I recommend naming it after the gmail account that you plan to attach it to).
13th - TLS Certificate should be "None"
14th - Click the Advanced Tab - From here, uncheck the box for "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".  Then make sure Port is 587 (default is 25 for some ungodly reason).  Check the box for "Use SSL".
15th - Set authentication to "Password".  User name MUST contain a suffice (i.e [email protected]).  Password is your normal gmail password.
    16th - Click OK.
17th - Now your back at Preferences/Account Information - Link your account to the SMTP server that you just created by using the dropdown box next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).
18th - Save all changes and close out of Mail App.
19th - Restart Mail and recheck steps 8-15....for some reason my passwords kept getting erased, but they eventually saved and took.
20th - Add another gmail account by following these steps and then recheck all along the way for passwords, suffixes, everything.  You will want to make sure that your accounts are all properly linked to their respective Outgoing Mail Servers (hence the distinct naming descriptions).
21st - Once you have added multiple accounts send email between them to make sure that they are being sent from and received to the correct accounts.

Wow! Oh my goodness Patrick, thank you so much man. That's a ton of informatiion to take the time to write out step by step and share with strangers.  I really, really am grateful to you.  I've been dealing with this for a month, half the month I kept changing my passwords and kept assuming I was making some mistake.  It used to work fine.  About a week ago I started looking for a solution and couldn't find one that worked.
You have changed that sir!  I'm good to go, stress level will lower when I am on my Mac, and I'm so glad to not have all these messages popping back up that I was done with!
Muchos Gracias Amigo!  Owe you one...

  • Mail sending from wrong gmail address

I have multiple gmail addresses that I send from: one for work and one for personal. The email addresses are very similar, but for an additional ".am" suffix on the username of the work account. When I want to send an email from my work account I switch the "from" field to my work address, but it still gets sent from my personal address. The only workaround I've found is to force the work address into my "reply to" field. This still has the mail coming from the wrong account, but at least responses to the mail go in the right account. I do not have this problem when sending mail from other domains, nor do I have this problem when sending from my iPhone. I have my Gmail accounts set up with identical POP settings.

I assume you are talking about the Apple's Mail
Yes, this is the "Mail and Address Book" forum after all!
    i.3d wrote:
Start Mail, go to Preferences / Accounts.
For each account set the Outgoing server to be smtp.gmail.com:XXXXX - XXXXX being the user name you want send from.
    Tick: Use only this server.
Now you should be a happy camper.
I tried that. It causes my outgoing servers to go offline, and I couldn't send mail from either gmail address. My current workaround is to send the mail from another domain. I don't know if there are any disadvantages to this down the line.

    Hi schummi737,
Sounds like there are some settings in hotmail which is causing the communication issue. You will need to contact Hotmail technical support to help you make changes to the settings.

  • How can i move contacts from my gmail account

Is there a way to move contacts from my gmail account to my IPhone 4?

I assume you're using GMail as your primary e-mail account?  Try this.  This is how I am setup.  Not only will it move all your contacts to your phone but any changes made in GMail or on the iPhone will be sync'd with the server.
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740
Note... I think this will delete your existing contacts from your device.  You will want to use iTunes to back them up and get them imported into GMail before you sync your device wtih GMail.
