Sent Mail now put in seperate 'Sent Messages' folder - big problems

Never had this problem before. I have my MobileMe account set to sync everything to the server across my 10.5.8 MacBookPro and 3.0.1 iPhone 3GS. Sent Mail has always been put in the standard 'Sent' folder and we've got along fine.
The other day I was setting up my email on a 10.5.7 iMac and when it did the mail sync, it created a new folder called 'Sent Messages (.me)' and preceded to put all the synced up sent messages in this folder instead of the standard 'Sent' folder at the top of the Mail.app application.
Now its a right mess. On the iPhone I can not select 'Sent' in the 'On the Server' list when choosing where to put sent mail. It only offers 'Sent' 'On My iPhone' and shows the 'Sent Messages (.mac)' on the other list.
How do I hit the reset button and get this back to where it was before with 'Sent' folder sync bliss?
Do I need to remove the accounts from all machines and start again?
Could 10.5.7 on the iMac be the culprit?
Many thanks.

Maybe not...
I've had the same symptoms suddenly appear while using an IMAP account. Sent mail is no longer saved in the Sent folder -- unlike you, I can't find any of my new Sent mail. (but mail sent from my iPhone does show up) The same flurry of extra IMAP-related folders has also appeared, including the "Sent Messages" folder, just below the "Sent" folder.
So, it doesn't seem to be a .mac issue. I hadn't changed any settings today before I noticed that it started happening.

  • "Sent Messages" folder not receiving new sent mails after a server change

My provider just moved my account to another server. The IMAP accounts needed to be re-established on my wife's PC in her program. So we know the files are all there on the new server.
Funny thing is that it's not working on Mail on my iBook. And when these changes took place, my sidebar contents in Mail changed on me. I have sent some mail to various places since this happened, but none of these new mails have copies which are saved in my "Sent Items" or "Sent Messages" folders. So I have no record now of anything new since the change happened. I DO have copies of mail in there that are pre-change.
I checked my preferences for mailbox behaviors, and the "Store Sent Items on the Server" is checked, so I'm not sure what's up.
For the record I'm running OS X 10.4.7 and Mail 2.1.
I have deleted and re-established my two email accounts in Mail in order to make them re-establish new links with the server, so I'm seeing my folders, but no new mail sent is showing up in my Sent Messages folder.
I would appreciate if anyone knows if there could be an issue with Mail, my new host's servers, or what. It looks like a Mail issue to me, since my wife's PC is reading everything fine (and she is running Thunderbird as her client).
    Thanks!

I don't think it's your fault. Different IMAP servers use different naming conventions, and the Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For command is meant to let you tell Mail which folder should be used for what purpose, but you shouldn't have to use it just to prevent your mail from being lost. At the very least, Mail should be able to use its own default Sent Messages folder without you having to do anything. I don't know why Mail fails to do this properly so often.
Worse yet, not only does Mail sometimes fail to use the Sent Messages folder that's already there, but it doesn't even warn you that it's failing to save your sent messages as you've told it to.

  • Updated iPhone Software to vers 2.0. Now "Sent" messages & folder are gone

*Just downloaded (40 mins) & installed iPhone Software version 2.0.*
Contacts/Phone/Bookmarks/Music Library/Picts are all OK. _PROBLEM IS I've lost all my Sent Email messages and Sent Folder for each mail account and no longer have access to any messages sent from my iPhone_. It's ironic because during iPhone 2.0 update, there was a message about backing up mail/contacts/picts et al. After update & firmware update, iTunes restored info to my iPhone, but all sent messages are gone. Everything else appears to be OK.
*Does anyone have any idea how i can retrieve them.* (Seems if they were backed up to iTunes, that it should be possible to restore the same information).
[I turned off "Push" by navigating on the iPhone:SETTINGS>FETCH NEW DATA>PUSH- "off". Since turning PUSH off, new sent messages (i.e. after 2.0 upgrade) appear in sent folder, but older sent messages are still missing in action.
Your thoughts & comments are greatly appreciated!
    Geoff

This may be odd... responding to my own posting, but for anyone with similar issue, I just spoke with the people at "1-800-myiphone".
Result: "Sent Messages, and Sent Message Folder are both temporary, and are not part of itunes/iphone syncing or backup features".
To restore the prior Sent Messages that existed in the earlier iphone software version 1.14 is impossible as messages are not stored on AT&T's servers, and iTunes does not sync "sent messages." The only work-around to re-populate missing sent messages is for the recipients of those messages to forward messages back from their computer, not their iphones, (Remember iPhone strips attachments from forwarded messages, therefore recipients who have iphones must 'forward back message from their computer only).
After migrating to iphone software version 2.0, it is a really good idea to do a "Bcc:" (Blind Carbon Copy) to onself on all future messages. That way messages will arrive in your 'inbox' which can be synced and restored via iTunes software.
In short, I think Apple is using a technical glitch in it's software update to coerce users to use the "MobileMe" service that Pushes and syncs messages to an iPhone and the user's other computers.
Hope this posting is helpful to others.
    Sincerely,
    Geoff

  • Mail 4.1 suddenly takes another SENT Messages folder

Since a few days, another SENT Messages folder is used by Mail to store my sent e-mails. I'm using 2 Macs and one iPhone. Before, all 3 devices used the same SENT Messages folder. However, at the moment my 2 Macs use the SENT Messages ([email protected]) folder to store the sent e-mails, while my iPhone still uses the 'normal' SENT Messages folder. I have no clue why my Macs suddenly decided to use the SENT Messages ([email protected]) folder (so with an e-mailaddress behind it).
If you have any idea why this happened, please let me know. Any help will be appreciated! If you need some more information, also let me know!

I'm not sure why you have to Sent mail folders. You can report bugs here.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
One more thing to try. Quit Mail if it's open.
    Locate this file. com.apple.mail.plist
Move that file to the Desktop. Launch Mail.
If it functions as it should, go to Mail/Preferences. Make note of your Mail preferences, then delete that .plist file.

  • Message not saved in sent messages folder

    Hi everybody,
When I send a mail by the Collaboration Launch Pad and check the option: "Save copy in Sent Messages Folder" I get this error:
"Message has been sent, but could not be saved in the sent messages folder; check the mail server entry in your user mapping data."
Please is anybody there who can help me to properly configurate that option or tell me how to remove it from the body?
    Thanks in advance,
    Antonio

    Hi Antonio,
Saving the mesage means writing that e-mail in the senders "sent item" folder in the mailbox. Thus make sure that the users mail server name and user and password is correct for the system Exchange.
    Also check SAP Note 738965.
Also there is this this specific port that should be open on the SMTP server for the mail to be saved  in the "sent items" folder. I dont remember what port is it. Will try to figure out and let you know.
Also make sure that your Exchange transport has the sent items folder name.
    Akhilesh
Using telnet check that the SMTP server can be reached on port 25. If not then there is no way you can save the messages in the sent items folder using the collaboration tools.

  • "sent messages" folder on my iPhone 4s

Emails sent from my mac are not showing up on my iPhone 4s. I am using an email address hosted by godaddy and it's an IMAP account.
In settings / mail / accounts / advanced / sent mailbox: I see the "sent messages" folder and it is checked (on the server).  But in my email app, that folder does not appear.
Can someone help me on this? I want to be able to see the emails I send from my mac on my iPhone (I can see iPhone sent emails on my mac)
    Hope this makes sense.
    Thanks!!

  • Sent Emails not being saved in Sent Messages Folder

I have been sending emails while logged into .Mac at work and I have not been receiving replies. When I send mail from my other accounts my friends tell me they never received mail from my .Mac acct. I even tried sending a blank one to myself and it was not showing up in the sent messages folder. How can I get all my messages to be saved in the send messages folder and not just some of them?
    Thank You

  • Change 'Sent' Messages folder?

How do u change the folder in Mail.app?
I'm having a problem across two computers and @me: between my desktop and @me the Sent mail is synchronized, but between my laptop and @me and me desktop it isn't. I checked the folder names for my sent mail and see the following:
Desktop-> 'Name on Server: Sent Messages'
@me-> 'Save Sent Messages to 'Sent'
Laptop-> 'Name on Server: Sent Messages (mac)'
So it seems that 'Sent Messages' = 'Sent'.
The question is how, do I change it on my laptop in Mail.app? In @me->Mail->Prefs-> I can see a list box which will let me adjust between 'Sent' and 'Sent Messages (mac)' but I don't see this same option in Mail.app

  • Mail sent messages folder

    I am using IMAP accounts from three different Macs (2 OSX6, 1 OSX8) , 1 iphone, 1 iPad
Unfortunately the use how to save sent messages on server is not overall consistent.
In addition to the "sent" folder I have also "sent items", "sent messages" which have been cretaed by mail client apps.
Where can I set up the Mail Apps that sent mails are not only saved on the server, but also always in the same "sent" folder?
    Thanks
    Urs

It's pretty easy to choose your Sent folder.
    1. On the lefthand folders panel, select the folder that you want to use as your "Sent" folder.
    2. With that folder selected, choose Mailbox from the top menu
    3. Near the bottom of the dropdown menu, select "Use This Mailbox As"
    4. Select "Sent Mailbox"
Voila! Now all your sent e-mails will be stored in the folder of your choosing. You can also change the behavior of other folders, such as Drafts, Junk, Trash, etc.

  • Strange issue with imap and a blank empty sent messages folder

So here is a weird one. I got a new computer last week, Mac mini core duo. Set everything up, synced my .Mac and it set up mail. I have been using mail, i try to view Sent Messages for one of my IMAP accounts which should have 10,200 messsages in it. I see nothing. On rebuild mailbox it goes blank. Some messages I send are stored until i rebuild mailbox and it again is empty. On my other Macs (powerbook 12" and dual G4) I am still able to view and manipulate this same accounts Sent Messages. One webmail everything still works as well. While trying to copy old messages down to the Powerbook to archive them I noticed that it was very slow, and messages which were not cached already caused the Copy to fail. I am using Courier IMAP with Maildirs and Postfix on FreeBSD as a server.

  • G-Mail Account Not showing up in Messaging Folder

On my Droid X, that I can't say enough about, I noticed that my G-mail Account is not showing up in the Messaging folder.  I have tried the "manage account" option and it shows the account,  but on the main messaging screen, it is only showing my comcast, facebook, twitter and texting folders.  Subsequently, I'm not receiving my g-mail unless I use the browser and log into the gmail account that way... Any thoughts or suggestions?

Try adding a folder by doing these steps.  Hope this helps!
If there is no room on a specific homescreen, the option to add shortcuts or folders will be greyed out. Select another homescreen to add or resize/remove existingg widgets to make space.
    Add a Folder
    1. Press Menu hard key, press + Add,
    2. Select Folders
You will be presented with a list of data and documents you can access by or save into a folder. (New folder, All contacts, Bluetooth received, Favorites, Phone Numbers, Recent, Statues)
    3. Select a folder from the "Select folder" menu to place it on a homescreen. You can adjust its position once its on the homescreen.
    Add a Shortcut
    1. Press Menu hard key, press + Add,
    2. Select Shortcuts.
You will be presented with a list of features that can be turned into a shortcut icon on your homescreens for quick access to the particular application or feature. (Applications, Bookmark (internet), Contact, Contact Search, Dialer, Navigation, Gmail label, Latitude, Music Playlist, Picture Slideshow, Settings, Voice Dial).
Any application icon from the Applications tray can be used to create a shortcut. Tap and hold on the icon in the applications tray. The applications tray will hide away and you can drop the Application icon on your homescreen. This icon now becomes a shortcut to that application.
    3. Select a shortcut from the "Select shortcut" menu to place it on a homescreen. You can adjust its position once its on the homescreen.
    Notes:
The top row (right below the Google Search bar) cannot be used for shortcuts or folders.
To remove a shortcut or folder press and hold the item and drag it to the App try icon (trash can).
If an error message appears, you can drag the message into the trash as well.

  • In Mail, how to reinstall a «Deleted message» folder trashed by error ?

    Hi,
From Mail's sidebar, I deleted a «Deleted Message» folder that seemed to be a duplicate of the «Trash» folder (Corbeille in French).  I did that to fast ...  and I realize that all my deleted messages dissapeared.   I never really understyood these duplicated «Trash» and «Deleted Message» folders, so I should have paid more attention ... gurlp !
I then searched my hard disk to see where my actual «Deleted messages» folder was nested.  That folder was backed up in the cloud with CrashPlan, so I restored it to my desktop.  It was nested here:
    Users/MyUserName/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes/Deleted Messages (Vidéotron)
I checked to be sure that the I had found the good folder.  I then closed Mail.  I moved the actual «Deleted messages» folder to the trash and replaced it with the one I restored from CrashPlan.
When I launched Mail while the restaored folder contained ± 4000 messages, Mail only displays 72.
    Somebody has a clue ?
    Regards.
    Robert Lespérance

The «Deleted Messages (Vidéotron).mbox» original folder that contains ±4000 deleted messages is shown in this picture (click here).  As you see the messages are distributed in many folders and sub-folders.
I want to import thoses messages back in Mail ... and as I said, it doesn't work.  Is there somebody out there that understands my problem ?

I had Verizon (e-mail) and now have a "g-mail" account. I am unable to forward messages or photos out due to I no longer have a Verizon account and Mozilla-thunderbird? apparently only recognizes my Verizon account and not the g-mail account. How do I fix this?

You'll need to set-up your Gmail account in Thunderbird. Run the new account wizard, it will pick the correct server settings automatically.
