Sent mail symbol missing

Recently my Mail is acting up. I select e-mail press reply, do it, send it and most of the times that little symbol of e-mail answered will not show up!?
It creates quite a bit of confusion since that is what I do all the time and always afraid that e-mail is not answered.
Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Zack

You have email sounds turned on in Settings > Sounds and the alert volume isn't turned down ?
Or have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music/iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Gmail IMAP Sent  Mail folder missing in Mac Mail

I made a change in Mac Mail by using the Mailbox/Use this mailbox for Sent Mail menu item on the [Gmail] Sent Mail folder and the original
[Gmail] Sent Mail folder has vanished. It still appears in the Gmail web interface and is checked on to show up in IMAP, but it doesn't appear in Mac Mail. Sent messages to appear in the Mac Mail snet folder, which is fine but I want to [Gmail] Sent Mail folder back. I tried turning the "show in IMAP" setting in Gmail on and off and it works for other folders, but not for the "Sent Mail" folder. I also tried restoring an older copy of the com.apple.mail.plist file but that didn't work either. Any ideas how to get it back? Pop is turned off as well.

It seems this is the desired behavior in Mail, as I don't need the [Gmail] folders to appear since the mail is all in the Mac Mail folders.
Of course, this might all break again when I upgrade to Mavericks :-(

  • Sent Mail Messages Missing

I'm trying to do some detective work. I'm not sure what could have caused this, but this morning I discovered that all email messages that I sent after February 24 have disappeared.
Yesterday evening I ran MacScan, which I have configured to scan my Home folder in search of spyware and tracking cookies. I've run it previously every month, and all it has ever reported finding were a dozen or so tracking cookies; never any spyware, and there had never been any problems. Last night, it found only 14 tracking cookies; nothing else, and I instructed MacScan to isolate them. Then I quit MacScan.
After that, I ran TechTool Pro's Protection Setup, which copies directory structure data from each of my four drives to each other for safety. Then I ran Diagnostics, which checks the drives. Protection and Diagnostics run every night, with never a problem.
After that I did my regular nightly backup using Deja Vu, which includes copying my entire Home/Library/Mail folder to an external drive.
And this morning, as I said, *+everything in Mail appears fine with the exception of the missing Sent messages after February 24+*. I realize, of course, that if this was caused by something I ran prior to the backup being done, then my backup is also missing those Sent messages.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Well, BD, this may just leave you scratching your head in wonder.
In my Home/Library/Mail folder, I located the appropriate email account folder. Inside it are the folders we're accustomed to seeing: Deleted Messages.mbox, Drafts.mbox, INBOX.mbox, Sent Messages.mbox, and a file called 'MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2.'
Despite the fact that there are 986 messages showing in Mail's Inbox, the INBOX.mbox folder contains only FIVE messages (inside the INBOX 'Messages' folder). Yes, just 5. And, despite the fact that there are 15 messages showing in Mail's Drafts box, the 'Messages' folder inside the Drafts.mbox has only ONE message in it. Similarly, ... WAIT JUST A @#$%^&* MINUTE HERE....
I have just come back from running some errands. Prior to leaving, I had quit Mail and put the G4 to sleep. Now, all the previously missing messages (some 400 or so) are back. However, clicking on any of the messages composed and sent prior to running MacScan displays the following text: "*+The message... has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.+*"
But the 'Messages' folder inside the Sent Messages.mbox contains only TWO messages. And what I described two paragraphs earlier is still true. How can Mail display messages that aren't even present in the corresponding folders?
    Wow... I am stumped.

  • Gmail Sent Mail messages missing

I use Apple Mail for my GMail iMap account and I am suddenly missing the last 6 months Sent messages. Given that it's iMap, would it be safe to just delete the account and reenter it in the hope that the problem then just comes out in the wash.

    Thomas A Reed wrote:
Then your sent messages have not been saved on the GMail server, so deleting the account and re-creating it will not help. If that setting was changed recently, you may have them on the server, though, so log on to GMail via the web site and check to be sure.
As to where they went, I don't know. You could try rebuilding the mailbox (Mailbox -> Rebuild), but if that doesn't fix it, and they're not on the server, then you're out of luck unless you've got those messages in a backup. If you haven't been backing up, they're gone.
Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. The reason I posted this under Apple Mail is because there is no problem at the GMail end, all the messages are there.

  • Sent mails are missing?

i don't want my sent messages to be deleted on my computer. but older message are are gone? i don't understand?? what can i do to keep all my sent messages? please help!

So when this Mac was purchased new it did not ship

How many POP type accounts are you accessing with the
Mail.app and this problem has occurred with the Sent
    mailbox for all POP accounts?
i use 14 pop accounts with my mail.app.
yes, it occurres with all my accounts but for different time spans?

  • Sent mail is missing

When I go to my Sent mailbox, every message is shown in there but every message is unable to be read. When I click on a message to read, it has the following message in italics: The message from (my name) <my email address> concerning (“Whatever the subject of the emails was”) has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
My account is online. If I take it offline and then online again, nothing happens- message reads the same.
    Please help!
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

It appears you upgraded from Jaguar to Panther since there are some package files left over from Jaguar Mail which are no longer required or created with a new Mailbox in Panther Mail.
Although the left over package files shouldn't cause any problems, sometimes they do but the major problem with this mailbox is the size - over 2Gb.
All email clients have limits and although an overstuffed mailbox issue can occur at any mailbox size, it is more likely to occur depending on the number and size of message attachments contained in the mailbox and especially as a mailbox approaches or exceeds 1Gb with Jaguar/Panther Mail and 2Gb with Tiger Mail.
I'm surprised you weren't having problems with this mailbox before.
Due to the size of the mailbox, the manual procedure to restore all messages will not work on this mailbox.
Send me an email and I'll forward you an mbox breaker script that splits a mailbox into smaller sections to recover the messages. There is no guarantee with the script but it has worked well for others. If the script doesn't work and you haven't maintained a backup, the messages contained in this mailbox may be lost.
You can get my email address by selecting my name.

  • 10.6.8 update ate all my sent mail!

Never happened in all my years on Mac: The update to 10.6.8 disappeared the contents of all Sent Mail Messages folders. Why and how would it do such a thing?
All POP mail accounts, three GMail and one Comcast. Wondering if making IMAP accounts will bring them back ... but really, Apple, ***? I prepare for updates, keep a clean, updated machine—MacBook Pro 17"—repair permissions after updates ...
    Thanks for any clues/advice,
    Connie

Same problem as humorzo.  My inbox consists of 10 different email accounts, including MobileMe, Gmail, other IMAP and POP based accounts.  NEVER had any issues with Mail or OS upgrades until 10.6.8.  Literally did two hours of email composing and sending off, only to realize that NOT one left the building and there is NO record in the DRAFT, OUTBOX or SENT Mail folders of any of the emails I sent.  As humorzo very aptly states - 10.6.8 with Mail ATE all my sent mail.
I tried rebuilding mail boxes.  It has now otoally screwed up my SENT MAIL - more missing than before rebuilding, dates screwed up.
NOT Happy - deleted mail prefs file (after copying original to a safe spot).  That didn't help - so reinstated original mail prefs file.
Checked DIsk Utility.  Drive is fine - repaired disk permissions.  All to no avail.
Apple - you have a problem here - please work this out ASAP.

  • Sent Mail Missing

MacBook Pro Laptop and .mac subscriber for years. Opened mail this evening and all sent mail messages are missing. I noticed mail was caching sent mail in Activity Window so I let it run. 1784 messages and attachments apparently were cached. I opened and closed mail and still no sent mail.
I looked at MobileMe and all my sent mail is on the server. I'm hesitant to do a sync until I know why the messages are off my laptop.

I doubt the messages are gone; Mail has probably just lost it's mind and doesn't realize they're there. So let's try rebuilding your Mail index.
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Mail and remove the Envelope Index file to your Desktop.
    3. Restart Mail and allow it to import your existing mailboxes; when it's done your index will have been rebuilt. Check to see whether or not your messages are back; if so, you can delete the old Envelope Index file on your Desktop.

  • Sent mail delays or missing

I have seen the posts about sent mail using MobileMe. As indicated by some respondents, it seems to me that there is a problem here that has not been addressed and that it is a recent one. Although my settings have not changed at all, sent mail is either missing or very much delayed in showing up on my computer and this is a recent phenomenon. Can anyone point to an "official" response from Apple that indicates what is going on and what, if anything, we can do to fix the problem. Thanks.

I have a user that is experiencing this problem on a G5 Mac Tower. After migrating his data from a laptop, he stating that certain e-mails are not showing up in his sent mail. Recipients of said e-mails are receiving them, but this is a problem for him. I can suggest the workaround but it will add an extra step to move these e-mails to the sent mail folder. Can anyone help, please? Thanks in advance!

  • Upon opening Mail this morning to check when I'd sent a draft I wrote yesterday, I noticed all my sent messages are missing.

Upon opening Mail this morning to check when I'd sent a draft I wrote yesterday, I noticed all my sent messages are missing. I had mail dating back ten years in there. When I go to Time Machine to restore, only today's Sent Mailbox is available. Time Machine has been backing up seamlessly for months, so there should not be a problem finding a backup. What's going on and how do I restore the Sent Mailbox?
I am using 10.7.4 on a MacBook Pro
    Laura

Unless your TM drive is messed up, the backups should be there. So relax a bit.
The mail is stored in your Home Library folder, not the hard drive Library folder. The Home Library folder is hidden in Lion. To get to it, select Go in the Finder and hold the option key down. Select Library in the submenu. A Finder window will open up in your Home Library.
From there, you will navigate to the Mail folder, then V2 folder. All main mailboxes for each account will be in their account folder. There is another folder called Mailboxes which will store all local folders.
If you select the V2 folder in the Finder window, then enter TM, you should be able to go back into time.
Before doing anything else, first open Disk Utility and verify that your hard drive is OK.
If it is, go into the hard drive and navigate to the Home Library/Mail/V2 folder. Open each mail account and click on the mailbox your messages were in, like the inbox. See if the messages folder contains messages.
I just want you to see if the mailboxes are in the account folders and that they contain data. If so, we will continue from there. There's no use in trying to restore if there are problems just yet. Let's verify this first, then we will proceed.

  • "sent" mail doesn't show up, missing reply emails, sudden "deleted" emails

I have been hving some problems with Mail recently, three issues have become major Pains in the ***:
    1. Just about every 3 or 4 emails that I send from my .mac account seem to go through but a copy or receipt of them don't show up in the "sent" mail folder/area.
    2. If I reply to an email in my in box, it will show the little "you replied to this email arrow icon" but when I click on the arrow, it will say that the message "has been deleted or missing"
    3. Lastly every 3-4 emails - As I am writing the note a window will pop up and say that the "email cannot be saved" but allows me to click "OK" and then continue typing the note and will sent it just fine.
Is there a master reset on Mail or can I reinstall just the Mail program ? ( i really don't want to do that) I ran disk utility and my drive seems to be fine, the permissions are good.
    any help would be great.
    thanks.

    MBP 15" 1.83GHz core duo 1.5GBramm   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm having the same problem, although it is not with a .mac account, it is with IMAP accounts, which to the best of my knowledge is the server type used by .mac.
The weird part about all of this is that I use several e-mail accounts on my computer... one of them is a POP3, the rest are IMAP. Historically every message I've sent, regardless of the account, has been stored in the Sent folder, now only mail being sent from the POP3 account is being stored.
After unchecking the feature to store sent mail on the server for one of the IMAP accounts and sending a test message from IMAP address to POP3 address everything seemed to be working fine.... but I don't like that I had to do that. One of the reasons I use IMAP is so that I don't have to worry about what e-mails are stored where, because I use multiple computers.... but once I start telling my portable Macbook to no longer store outgoing messages on the server.... that could become a problem for me.
I've tried rebuilding the mailboxes several times to no avail. (Although I'm not entirely sure what rebuild does, I thought it'd be worth a shot)
And yes, my network card settings are just fine.
It might be worth noting that I've done a substantial amount of software updates over the past few days, and if I knew how to get you a list of those, I would.

  • Missing Sent Mail in Lion Mail

Since I upgraded to Lion a few days ago, I have not been able to view the text of recently sent messages. For replies, the reply icon shows up and a message pops up when the icon is clicked, but the body perpetually "loads" and nothing displays. This same behavior happens when I double-click a sent email - the body perpetually loads. Older sent messages load fine.
This morning I rebuilt my Sent mailbox to see if it would show my sent mail bodies. Now I am missing most of my sent mail. Oddly, a few recent sent mails show up fine.
I had thousands of sent emails from all my interaction with clients and such. I really need these back. I use an Earthlink POP account. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Update: I just replied to a new incoming email. I clicked the reply icon which brought up the message in a new window, but my reply body is perpetually loading. In went to view the message in my Sent mailbox. It is there, but I see no body preview in the list or the preview pane. I get only the spinning gear and "Loading..."
    Help.

  • Viewing Sent mail has no content, attachments missing in Lion

Lion and Mail 5.0 . Some Windows computers are unable to view email body content. Also attachements don't appear eventhough they have uploaded and show the correct file size in the my sent mail folder.
Sometimes an attachment shows up as a thumbnail only with no attachement file.  PostBox works fine with these problem Windows computers.. body of text displays properly and attachments show up properly.

Have you set Edit/Attachments/Window friendly in Mail?  There have been some reports that it doesn't work, but it is working for me.

  • Missing Sent Mail

Sent mail is not appearing in my local Mail client although it does appear on Mobile Me. Attempts to fix the problem include recreating my mail account, syncing account, reindexing my mail and reinstalling the Mail application. A sent mail folder exists locally but sent mail does not appear in the folder.
Are there any other suggestions for fixing the problem?

Based on your previous post you know you're way around the 'Mail' application, but if you can't find out where to go just post back. Now I don't know much about MobileMe and if his has any effect on this at all as well, just FYI.
Go into your mail preferences and accounts and find out what is set as your outgoing mail server. Also go to rules from preferences and see if anything is listed there.
