Sent Message Errors

I recently updated my operating system to tiger and with that came the updated version of mail. i use the httpmail plugin to check my hotmail account through mail. when i updated my os i also updated the httpmail plugin. for some reason my sent messages are no longer saved to my sent message folder. when i try and save a draft before i even send the message, a dialogue box appears say, "message could not be saved." does anyone have a idea how to remedy this problem? it is not such a big deal, but i have spent many many hours trying to rectify it. thank you for your help.

I'm having the same problem. First I got the error message, and now sent messages are not being saved in the sent folder.
The only thing that has changed is that I installed MailTags.

  • Sent a picture to someone yesterday. status is stll "sending". Can I delete this. It seems to be locked up. I can't even get a failed message error. It is just out there in space.

how do I delete a  sent message that won't complete the transmission. It has been "sending message" for 24 hrs. I can't even get a failed to transmit error. I can't delete it like I would delete a sent message because it won't show up in my messages until it completes the transmission or I get a message of failed transmission.

    Hey there,
If I understand correctly, at the moment your messages application seems to be unresponsive and you cannot send any messages, and this started after trying to send an image to someone else. I would start by quitting not just Messages but all the running apps on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again by trying to send the image one more time:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

You can have direct download from this link:
    <Download Photoshop Elements products | 13, 12, 11, 10>
Make sure you select the correct version for your operating system.  You also need to have a reasonably faster reliable Internet connection.
    Good luck.

  • Sent messages aren't saved in the Sent Items folder in Outlook 2013

When we send a message in Outlook 2013, a copy of the message should be saved in the Sent Items folder by default. If Outlook doesn’t save a copy of the sent message, it may be caused by any one of the following
    reasons:
The “Save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder”
    option in Outlook is disabled.
The save location for sent messages was changed to another folder.
There is a custom view set on Sent Items folder, or the view on
    Sent Items is corrupt.
Outlook Data File may be damaged.
To resolve the issue, use the appropriate method for your situation.
Enable the Save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder
    option
To configure Outlook 2013 to save copies of your sent messages in the Sent Items folder, please follow these steps:
    1. Click File tab > Options.
    2. Click Mail on the left pane.
    3. Scroll to the Save Messages section, select the check box before “Save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder”.
    4. Click OK.
If it is the replying message that is not saving to the Sent Items folder, we need to disable the “When replying to a message that is not in the Inbox, save the reply in the same folder” option in the location mentioned above.
If you’re using an IMAP account, please also make sure you didn’t select the “Do not save copies of sent items” in Account Settings. To check this, Please refer to the following steps:
    1. In Outlook, click File tab > Info.
    2. Click Account Settings > Account Settings, and then double-click your IMAP account to open the
    Change Account wizard.
    3. Click More Settings button.
    4. Under Sent Items heading, clear the check box before “Do not save copies of sent items”.
    5. Click OK and click Next to complete the configuration.
Make sure there is no rule or anything else to redirect sent messages to other folders
To check if it is caused by Outlook rules, please follow these steps:
    1. In Outlook 2013, click Home tab.
    2. Click Rules > Manage Rules & Alerts.
    3. In the rules list, check if there is any rule that applied to the sent messages may cause this issue.
In addition, some rules may be corrupt or hidden and we cannot see them from the rules list. We need to use the MFCMAPI tool to find and delete the corrupt/hidden rules. To do this, we can use the following steps:
    1. Download MFCMAPI tool from: http://mfcmapi.codeplex.com/
    2. Start MFCMAPI tool.
    3. Click Session menu >
Logon, select the Outlook profile you are using and click OK.
    4. Double-click the mailbox that contains the inbox rules that you want to delete.
    5. A new window will open. In the new window, expand
Root Container or Root – Mailbox, and then expand
Top of Information Store or IPM_SUBTREE.
    6. Right click on Inbox and select
    Open associated contents table.
    7. In the Inbox window, locate and then right-click the items that have the
IPM.Rule.Message message class, and then click Delete Message.
To identify a specific rule, you’ll have to select the rule in the top pane in MFCMAPI and then scroll down in the lower pane and look at the
Property name(s) column. Find the ptagRuleMsgName property name and check the value against the rule name you were trying to delete in Outlook.
    8. In the Delete Item dialog, select
DELETE_HARD_DELETE from the Deletion Style drop-down menu.
    9. Click OK.
Reset the view settings on Sent Items folder
If you accidently changed the view settings on Sent Items folder, this may cause some sent messages not visible in the folder. To check if you’ve set any view settings on Sent Items folder, please follow:
    1. In Outlook, select Sent Items folder.
    2. Click View tab from the Ribbon.
    3. Click View Settings button. If you notice the
Reset Current View button is clickable, it means the view settings for Sent Items have been changed before.
    4. Click the Reset Current View button and then check the Sent Items folder again.
Scan and repair the Outlook Data File
To repair the .pst file, please follow:
    1. Find and start the Inbox Repair Tool in the following path:
For Outlook 2013 on a 32-bit version of Windows:
    <disk drive>\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15
For Outlook 2013 on a 64-bit version of Windows:
    <disk drive>\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15
    2. In the Inbox Repair tool, click Browse to locate the PST file by using the Windows file system.
    3. Click Start.
    4. After the analysis scan has completed, it will present you with a scanning report and options for the next step. Click Repair button.
To repair the .ost file, since this type of data file is a copy of information saved on your mail server, we can just delete the OST file and restart Outlook to re-create a new one.
For more information about repair Outlook data files, please refer to this article:

Same problem here, connecting to a Groupwise (not latest) server. Whenever Mail.app 3 tries to upload/save a new messsage to the server, it would not save and completely lose the message!
I found slightly more information by turning off the "Save to server" option for Sent and Drafts, created a new message that I saved as draft, and then tried to manually move items to the Drafts or Sent folder on the IMAP server.
The error I received was: The message <message> could not be moved to the mailbox <mailbox>-<account>. The IMAP command "APPEND" (to <mailbox>) failed with server error: APPEND NotJunk.
To my inexperienced eyes, it looks like the latest version of Mail changed it's default IMAP handling commands that may be incompatible with older IMAP servers. Anyone else have more insight or know how I can get back Mail.app 2.x from Tiger?

  • Sent messages are gone (you can call me an idiot)

I installed extra RAM in my iBook G4 about 2 weeks ago. Since then everything has sort of been acting up, especially Mail, Safari, and Photoshop, as they quit frequently.
But my obvious main concern here is Mail. I looked up other user forums on the Internet and found that if you delete your .plist mail file that it would help with this problem. I did it for Safari first and it seemed to help, so I then did it for Mail. I deleted the .plist, restarted, and was in shock when I opened my Mail to see everything gone.
Now, I realize this is a lame mistake. However, I figured out how to restore my messages, preferences, etc. I have been working fine until tonight when I tried to access previous sent messages. Instead of showing the message, there is an error message that reads:
"The message from Nancy Randle <[email protected]> concerning “Re: a favor” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
The only thing I can think of is that it has reverted to the new account I created to archive saved messages. Is there a way for me to revert back? Is there a way to find these messages? I have tried to find them in my Library, but with no luck.
My biggest concern is with my sent messages, but if anyone has any advice on the RAM install, that would be (OH!) so helpful.
    Anything would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Nancy

    Hi Nancyjo
did you backup the home/library/mail folder before you trashed the .plist ?
If you did - the old messages can be recovered.
If not - & you've searched the mail folder in vain for your sent messages - then short of some data recovery software - they're gone.
But the new account you created - is it exactly the same ( mail server & user name ) as your old one? if not, your messages may still be available.
Look in home/library/mail/mailboxes for a folder that matches the old account details ( if a pop server it will be 'POP-your username@your mailserver')
If the folder is there - in addition to the folder for the new account you made - then you're probably in luck.
Make a copy of the whole mail folder first, & the mail.plist file.
In mail - Create a new account with exactly the same details as the one that vanished.
select the inbox or sent folder for the account you just made
    choose mail-mailbox-rebuild
If that doesn't do it, but you find the missing messages within the mail folder - they can still be recovered. Let us know how you get on.
if things go screwy while you do this - quit mail & in finder replace the mail folder & plist file with the backup copies you made before you started. start mail again & you should be back where you were.
Regarding the RAM - barring coincidences, it sounds like a ram problem. Double check that all the ram is physically located properly & try again. If you still have problems - remove the new ram. If the problems go away, the new ram is either faulty or incompatible.

  • Mail 3, smtp, IMAP: sent messages are not saved on server

    Hello,
I had problems using Mail 3 after I upgraded to Leopard, so I used Thunderbird for the time being. With the update 10.5.1 I tried again: most problems solved BUT: sent messages are not saved on the server in mailbox "Sent".
Some background: I deleted the folder "<User>/Library/Mail" and "<User>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist" and configured Mail from scratch.
To be sure: I still have Thunderbird installed, and when I send with Thunderbird: a copy is placed in "Sent".
Another thing I noticed: it takes more than a minute to send from Mail 3 and a few seconds when I send from Thunderbird. I have another Macbook Pro with 10.5.0 installed: same problem with sending.
    Any help is appreciated.
    rene

Well, be stumped I did all that, but to be sure, I did it again:
I have a lot folders with subfolders and they are shown under my account name.
I created a new folder "test" in my IMAP account and designated it to be the new "Sent" folder. It replaces my previous Sent folder in the group Inbox, Drafts, Trash. My previous Sent folder now appears under my account name as a "normal" folder.
I send a message and the Activity monitor says: +"Delivering message: copying message"+. After a minute Mail is done. I check my (new) "Sent" folder and it's empty. I double check in webmail: it's empty.
So I go to the Finder and look in my IMAP folder: <user>/Library/Mail/<IMAP-account>/test.imapmbox and there is no folder "Messages", only Info.plist.
Then I try to move a message to the "Sent' folder: for a minute the Activity moinor says: Copying messages: copying message" and then Mail prompts: +"The message "testing" could not be+
+The connection to the server mail.hicetnunc.nl on port 143 timed out"+.
So it looks like Mail has a problem with the default "Sent" folder: it cannot copy messages to that folder at all! Aha!
But then I try to move a message to a "normal" IMAP folder: same thing! Mail cannot copy to any folder!
In both instances Mail says: +"The message "..." could not be be moved to the mailbox "..."+
+The connection to the server mail.hicetnunc.nl on port 143 timed out"+
Last thing: I try to move a message to a folder in the same account again. But in the process I quit Mail. I open Mail again and Mail is performing pending operations: copying message. After a while Mail prompts: +"Operation could not be completed. (MFMessageErrorDomain error 1028.)"+ and crashes... I open Mail again and it tries to peform pending operations. Again: an error message and Mail crashes. This keeps going on so I delete the whole account and set it up again. Nothing's changed...
I can receive and send, but sent messages are not copied to the "Sent" folder and I cannot move messages around within a IMAP account. But TADA!!!: I can move messages from account to account.

  • Can't move messages error...

    Hello,
Somehow in my GoDaddy imap account in Preferences I had the checkbox for storing sent messages on server unchecked for a few months. So mail.app was storing all of my sent messages in a local on my mac mailbox. I just realized the problem and I restored my preference back to storing my sent messages on server and I thought I'd just copy from my local mailbox back into my Sent mailbox which is stored on server. But everytime I try I get the following error:
The IMAP command “APPEND” (to Sent Items) failed with server error: sockiowrite_msgtimed() failed, rc=4294967295..
I tried moving and copying with the same results. Funny thing is I had something like 840 messages and it did copy around 30 messages but now I'm stuck with the remaining 810 that won't copy. Any advice? Thanks!
    rc

I was getting this as well, and figured out a way to fix it on mine:

  • Email issue with sent messages in Tiger

I set up iCloud email on our old laptop running Tiger. In Mail it sends and receives but does not save sent messages to the Sent folder and the messages aren't recorded in iCloud. In Entourage, I can receive but not send email. Any thoughts or ideas?

Hello, just checking, did you set it up as IMAP & the rest like this...
MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT - DO NOT TRY TO ALTER YOUR EXISTING ACCOUNT.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
        •    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 993
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
        •    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 587
        •    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • My sent messages are vanishing

    Hi
I've encountered a very strange problem with Leopard Mail: Sometimes after I send a message, it does not appear in my sent items folder. If the vanished message is a reply to another, Mail will place that little icon next to the original in my inbox to indicate that I've replied, yet when I click on this, instead of being shown my reply, I get the following error message (where “XXXXXXX” is the subject of my email):
Mail was unable to find your response to the message “XXXXXXX”. You may have deleted the message.
What's weird is that there seems to be no pattern to this problem and it is quite intermittent - it doesn't seem to be specific to any particular email addresses or recipients within a certain domain. It is not dependant on files being attached to the message, or the message being formatted in rich text etc. All of my efforts to replicate it consistently have failed. The only thing I can say is that it seems to happen more when I've spent a long time writing an email: If I've started typing, left the message for a while and returned to it. That said, the problem has also occurred on short, quickly typed and sent messages...
I have checked my mail server logs and with the people the messages were meant to go to. The vanishing messages do seem to arrive as they should.
I have three accounts checked by Mail: .Mac, Hotmail and an IMAP account. The problem only occurs with the IMAP account. I do know that I'm not running out of mailbox space on my server and that there are no preferences set in Mail to delete sent items. I also have no Mail rules that could blamed.
Also, I'm using the HTTPMail plugin to receive my Hotmail. I'm not sure I can blame the fault on this, though, as I've been using it in various versions for years (back to Panther Mail) without any problems.
I did follow this guide on Hawkwings, which although not specifically related to my problem, came up when I did a Goggle search on data corruption in Mail (the guide suggests deleting and allowing mail to rebuild an 'Envelope Index' file):
    http://www.hawkwings.net/2006/02/01/the-dreaded-your-home-directory-is-full-mess age/
The problem did go away for a while but is now reoccurring.
So, I wonder if anyone can shead some light on this for me please? Any advice would be much appreciated!
    Cheers
    Matt

    Hi
Thanks for your replay and apologies for my late response.
Unfortunately, my missing emails do not show up in a spotlight search and Mail is neither saving them as drafts nor placing them in any other random folders - they really do seem to be vanishing after I click send! I should note, though, that after I click send, I do see the regular mail activity I would expect - i.e. the 'Sent' folder in Mail changes to 'Sending...' and the activity bar indicates the message is being sent (complete with progress bar). It's just that after this the message does not appear in my Sent folder.
I can really only conclude that some file somewhere has become corrupt, but I'm really not sure which. It might even be something at the mail server end because, as I mentioned, this fault only effects one out of three accounts I use Mail to check.
On a possibly unrelated note, I had been having some general instability issues with Leopard lately, so today I used Disk Warrior to rebuild the root directory of my System Disk (I've used Disk Warrior for quite a while, but this will be the first time I've used it since my clean install of Leopard). Disk Warrior's report did flag up damage it had fixed in files that were certainly associated with Mail, though like the idiot I am, I didn't save the report file so I can't say exactly which files they were. D'oh! I can hope that this may have solved the problem - of course my missing sent emails have not returned, but at least if it doesn't happen again the future I'll be happy...

  • Mail copying to Sent Messages on IMAP server

i noticed that with 10.5.4 that the message appears to be sent to the Sent Messages folder, but never seems to make it.
can anyone let me know if there have been any changes on this front (iMail server).
it behaves differently than it did, but still not correctly.
    thanks so much!

I have been having this problem intermittently, with the same error messages. Some messages are sent and stored properly, others are sent but not saved, and I cannot find a pattern. The only condition that occurred to me is that it generally happened within the first few messages I sent after waking the Mac from sleep, reconnecting to my wireless network and syncing Mail (which it does automatically). None of the messages were large at all (~40 KB, I'd say) but some had attachments such as pictures (~100 KB). All of the recipients were in my Address Book.
I guess that a less-than-ideal workaround is to 'automatically cc/bcc myself', activated in Preferences > Composing, and subsequently delete the messages if they are in the Sent folder. (Admittedly a real pain for large volume of messages, but at least you have a copy of the messages.)

  • Message not saved in sent messages folder

    Hi everybody,
When I send a mail by the Collaboration Launch Pad and check the option: "Save copy in Sent Messages Folder" I get this error:
"Message has been sent, but could not be saved in the sent messages folder; check the mail server entry in your user mapping data."
Please is anybody there who can help me to properly configurate that option or tell me how to remove it from the body?
    Thanks in advance,
    Antonio

    Hi Antonio,
Saving the mesage means writing that e-mail in the senders "sent item" folder in the mailbox. Thus make sure that the users mail server name and user and password is correct for the system Exchange.
    Also check SAP Note 738965.
Also there is this this specific port that should be open on the SMTP server for the mail to be saved  in the "sent items" folder. I dont remember what port is it. Will try to figure out and let you know.
Also make sure that your Exchange transport has the sent items folder name.
    Akhilesh
Using telnet check that the SMTP server can be reached on port 25. If not then there is no way you can save the messages in the sent items folder using the collaboration tools.

  • Sent messages only appear in the sent folder after restarting Thunderbird

Hi, my problem is that sent messages do not appear in the sent folder unless I restart Thunderbird. I have the sent 'copies' box de-checked as if not although it syncs I end up with two copies (of sent messages).
I am using Thunderbird 31.2.0 on OSX Yosemite connecting via IMAP to ZOHO mail with STARTTLS on 587 for SMTP.
Hope you can advise, I've tried SSL/TLS on 465 also and it is the same. It's a bit of an inconvenience not being able to view the sent messages.
    Many thanks

Interesting to know (the RFC violation) but as you say, perhaps not relevant as such, although if ZOHO wasn't auto-placing a copy in sent then I could check the 'place a copy in' option and it would work ok.
Anyhow, I tried your recommendations and yes, I use both an Android and an iPad to also check my mail but with both disconnected from Wi-Fi the problem still persists. There are a few warnings being reported in the TB error console on the Mac but they just relate to 'mso-table-lspace' for my INBOX.
And for info in Thunderbird on my Ubuntu laptop the problem is exactly the same -
'Place a copy' checked - Messages instantly appear in the sent folder but there are two copies.
'Place a copy' de-checked/Cached connections = 5 - Messages only appear in the sent folder after restarting Thunderbird
'Place a copy' de-checked/Cached connections = 1 - Messages appear in the sent folder on clicking out of the folder and back in.
On Ubuntu there is nothing at all in the error console.
I can work with how things are at this stage as I don't live in the sent folder (rather the inbox), and when you click into it (with the connections cache at 1) the messages do appear, so I suppose that's actually ok.

  • Do sent messages get saved in any folders?

When I use PC Suite to compose and send text messages, they seem to send (at least I do not get any error message), but I cannot find the sent message in the Sent Items folder. Am I looking in the wrong place, or is there an option I have missed?

For confirmation:I have PC USite 6.85.14.1 and N95 and when I send a text message from PC Suite, it gets stored to my N95's sent folder.
So I am thinking can this also be S40 vs. S60 specific issue that with S40 phones the sms's sent from PC do not get stored...not quitesure, more people should tell here what their experience is, do the pc sent sms's get stored to phone sent folder ?

  • Sent Messages.mbox – full yet not accessible

my Mail Box Sent folder displays items listed yet when I select them I get the message:
“You need to take this account online in order to download it“
as I am online I presumed that this was an error so I went to >Mailbox>Rebuild. which cleared all the listings in the Sent mailbox!!! realising I should of backed up first.
I then exploerd and found (via Library>Mail>POPaccount>) “Sent Messages.mbox” which is 1.9Gb. As I regularly delete items to stop overfilling the account and that there are no messages in the Sent folder, is it because it is still remebering deleted files?
Can I still restore “Sent Messages.mbox” which is still 1.9Gb??

  • After importing received and set messages from Opera Mail, Thunderbird works fine but does not save sent messages to Sent folder, even though messages are sent

I successfully imported messages from Opera Mail. Initially the Sent mailbox was not showing in Thunderbird. A quick removal and fresh installation solved that, but Thunderbird does not save the sent messages to the Sent box, where the imported Opera Mail messages are stored. Even though messages are not saved, they are sent correctly. The image attached shows the error message.

Probably a name-confuse If you store sent on mailserver it has to have the right name. (subscribe)
You could set up under Account settings / copies and folders (maps) Sent pointing to the right local folder.
