i seem to remember in the dim and distant past, i used a couple of search engine tools.
one uploaded my site to all search engines at the press of a button. completely free and no surveys.
the other was a tool that allowed me to see what search engines could see my site.
anyone else used these, and can provide me with links?

Flex 3 and SEO HELP

Can anyone help me if Flex 3 can be seen by search engines. I have a pure Flex 3, database generated web site and have tested many options with no search engine results found. I tried hidden text and found search engine results very quickly before I discovered that this technique was a search engine no no. I am looking for valid way design my Flex and test the search engine to verify results before I build duplicate html pages. Please help.....

I think Tracy is correct. You need to declare the amazon namespace:
namespace amazon = "http://webservices.amazon.com/AWSECommerceService/2007-07-16";
and then use it when parsing your xml:
event.result..amazon::Item

Flex2 and SEO help

Hi
I'm rather new to Flex2 and I had a general question about
search engine words like what you'd find within the meta tags of a
static HTML page. Seeing is it that the output is a giant .swf file
for clients, how does one address the issue of their site being
available for search engines, or is it even possible?

First I want to say Shame on you Adobe for not addressing
this subject outright.
I am a java gone flash some 5 years ago and now am making the
switch to flex/flash.
What I say now is only what data I have been able to collect
the past two weeks on this subject and should only be used as a
reference.
If you build an entire website out of flash a search engine
cannot crawl a .swf file. Are there ways around it, yes there are.

but the time and effort is tremendous for a small team or one

Flex does answer the back button issue with historyManager
class. but to fully exploit it you need to program a bit more
depending on how complicated a site you build.
From what I gather you are building a site entirley in flash
which is OK but you need to grow beyond this to whats known as a
MVC architecture which basically means separate out your content
from your view and store it either in flat files or in a database.
This opens up the opportunity to point the search engines to
this data.

This is a complicated subject and one not taken on lightly.
Is it possible, absolutely. However you need to think before
you build. separate out your content. point the incoming requests
to what there looking for...read and understand the mvc
architecture. If you have worked in flex you already know that in
the eclipse environment you are producing mxml documents.
perhaps these will be indexable as well??
im still working on the problem myself and am curious where
this goes.

IWeb with Go Daddy SEO Help

I'm trying to get my iweb site to show up on different search engines but having a hard time trying to figure it all out. I have my domain name through GoDaddy with the SEO, however, I don't know how to add things such as meta tags and title pages and more.
Can some one please explain how to set it up?

And speaking about page titles, read this :
iWeb uses the textbox in the Header layer of an iWeb page as the title in the browserwindow.
Do not remove the original textbox, as you cannot replace it other than by selecting another theme and then change it back to the original theme again. Ruining the layout in the process.
If the textbox in the Header is missing, iWeb uses a textbox down the page in the Content layer. If that textbox is also missing, it uses another textbox. If that fails it uses the pagename in the Sidebar.
Sometimes you may want a different text in the titlebar and not display it on the page itself. Or not display it at all.
So use that textbox in the Header layer. Type your text. Then select the textbox. In the Inspector choose T, click a color to open the color palette and drag the opacity slider to 0 (zero).
Do Command-T to open the font palette and make the font smaller. (Or do Command--(minus)) Also use a font that doesn't change to an image. Arial is a good font. Perhaps do it first before making the text invisble.
Resize the textbox. You may want to change the height of the Header layer.
Do Command-Shift-B to move the textbox to the back, possibly behind other objects.
Next add a optional second textbox to the Header layer and use that one to display text on the page.
If you want to move the textbox to the front again to make changes, but can't remember the location on the page, drag the area with the mouse to select the objects.
Deselect objects you do not want to move forward by Command-dragging the mouse over these objects.
Next do Command-Shift-F to move the textbox to the front. Repeat the steps in reverse order to make the text visible.
Practice.

I too, build my site with iWeb and published to Mac, only to discover that the site was not "built in HTML" so I could not get help with SEO later on. (Then I read a Varrkgirl entry that seems to say that indeed once published, the site does contain HTML code. I am a novice and I don't "see" the code on my published pages..what do I know?) I was told "rebuild your site in HTML", transfer to new host via FTP.
Sooo, I had someone look at the site, put in the HTML code, and then he gave it to me on a disk which I can load onto my computer. I have been told to publish to a new host, via FTP Cyberduck (I see there's a tutorial for that here too) and unpublish my .Mac one. Don't know what in what order to do this.
I need help prioritzing tasks please. and to know if there is an easier way perhaps or if this should/could be avoided. Ultimately, I want a site in HTML code on my published site so that I can get some SEO help with later on. When I published to a folder, I do see code but if I simply upload this to another host would that take care of the whole issue? (i.e. dump the disk my person worked on, etc.)
re: HTML (could I have done this myself with Text Edit? If so, then is there a way to do so at this point, since my site is published to .Mac presently?) If I want to build/change current pages in the future using iWeb I want to know how, and then how to move changes to a new host.
re: Unpublishing my site at .Mac (when? it would seem like before I use FTP but if for some reason FTP'ing does not work then I am without my site, right?)

Keyboard problem: alt and command swapped

I am currently experiencing a problem with my Apple Pro Keyboard (Model circa 2000 taken from a PowerMac G4). It used to work fine, except now ALT and COMMAND seem to be swapped.
COMMAND + Q instead of quitting, gives me this: œ

Useful if you want to type strange, but slowly frustrating, as frequent mac users will know keyboard shortcuts are deeply ingrained into reflexes and are hard to change.
Has anyone else experience a problem like this?
How can it be solved?
I have already tried several things: reconnecting keyboard, restarting, checking updates. No significant harware or software change either, it just started randomly.
I have also tried searching google with no luck, results are for different topics with the same search terms.

You'd never guess where I didn't look*: system preferences.
Indeed the 'modier keys' were incorrectly mapped. So its now fixed.
...but I wonder what caused it to randomly switch?

I can't publish my iwebsite, It was fine before . I've added seo using ragesw seo tool. I've tried cyberduck and filezilla and still nothing please help me

I previously puplished my website to my host (go daddy) using filezilla with no problems at all (this was before mobile me died). Then I purchased an SEO tool from ragesw, I added the SEO and made a few other changes to the website, tried to publish it using filezilla and it wouldn't work. So as advised by rage I tried Cyberduck and still nothing .My website has been down for days and we've just started our new business so I'm really desperate. I am totally new to this kind of thing. Please Please Please can anyone help me it would be greatly appreciated Thanks.

"invalid password "on Iweb Test. and on SEO Tool, Login Failed Login Authentication Failed, ALL SETTING ARE CORRECT HELP

I have been updating my site over the last week, using Iweb SEO TOOL, but suddenly 2 days ago I can no longer update when i go to publish it says "invalid password "on Iweb Test. and on SEO Tool, Login Failed Login Authentication Failed, the password and all settings are correct.
I am 100% sure the all the setting are correct, as it has been working for the last 7 months and I have just been updating it, then suddenly it stopped, I have all the FTP settings wrote down, and even changed the passwords twice hoping that may work to no avail.

Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.

launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
launch iWeb and try again.

SEO Tool for iWeb HELP

I have used iWeb('09) to publish to the ftp server, ipage.com. I haven't had a problem, until I downloaded the seo tool. Followed all the directions (even added a favicon!), except 2 of my linked sites do not work. They show up in the SEO program, but when I go to publish it, they don't work. I proceeded to publish from iWeb in order to erase what I had done, but still seems to not work. I know there is a "cache" for iWeb, would this have something to do with it?

It is likely that you didn't put the right URL in the URL field when you exported your website in iWeb to a local folder.
I would Publish Your Entire Site from under the File menu in iWeb to a local folder. Open it up in iWeb SEO Tool and then publish your site with iWeb SEO Tool.
It can also be that your directory path is incorrect. Contact your web hosting provider to get the correct root directory path. Only they know what it is.

@Old Toad: Publishing with iWeb SEO Tool to an FTP server should work fine without any problems. Most issues with publishing with iWeb SEO Tool are because of an incorrect directory path. The directory path must be correct and can only be retreived from the user's web hosting provider.

1. To publish to .Mac just mount your iDisk and go to Web/Sites/ and you will see your old site there. Delete that site and just copy your new site to the location.
2. Just press the load from iDisk button in the toolbar and enter your username and password. Your sites from your iDisk will load in iWeb SEO Tool.

Iweb SEO TOOL for iweb09 any help please Cannot locate my websites???

Hi I have just downloaded iweb SEO tool which sounded so good, but when you start you have to locate my website (which was created on iweb 09) and I cannot find it. It doesn't ask for your web address just comes up with OPEN FILE and you have to locate it manually but I can't find it anywhere? Any ideas as to what it would be stored under on my mac? Has anyone had any succes with this programme?

In +iWeb SEO Tool+, click on the Help menu and choose +iWeb SEO Tool Help+ — it should open a PDF document in Preview. In page 6 of that Help document, it says:
Just open the program and add your iWeb based websites by clicking the ‘Open Website’ button. This option will let you edit a local website folder. That is, a website that you have created in iWeb and selected ‘Publish to Folder’ from the File menu.

Can't enter fields in iweb SEO tool - help please?

I've been trying to add title tags to my new site using iweb SEO Tool but all fields remain greyed out, despite expanding and selecting each directory in the 'Local Sites' column, so I still can't enter any tags.
Although this issue is mentioned in Rage's knowledge base, it just advises selecting the relevant directory, after which it should work, only it doesn't, The knowledge base does not offer any alternative solution.
I'd be really grateful for any advice on this - many thanks.

Thank you Roddy, but pls could you advise me where the HTML site files might be located on the HD?
I assumed they were within > Application Support > iweb > domain > but when I click into the lower levels, I get two options entitled 'site-page' followed by numbers that I don't recognise. When ~I select either of these, the option to add title tags within SEO Tools is still greyed out.

As a recent Windows convert I'm having to rebuild my old website from scratch and although I'm really glad I made the move, it's taking me a while to get to grips with the way the Mac handles files; I can never find anything!)

Search Engines do not like websites which do not have any content in them. It is better to add some quality content and then optimize it. This will result in best SEO rankings for your website.

IWeb SEO Tool Help

I have added new title tags, meta tags and image attributes using iWeb SEO Tool, I did the whole process, saved my iWeb site to a folder on my desktop, opened it in SEO Tool, made the changes I wanted to make, and published to MobileMe using SEO Tool... however when I went to my website the changes were not made.
i tried completely deleting my website from my iDisk and doing the whole republishing process through SEO Tool again and it worked. After making changes to my site through iWeb i did the whole process like I am suppose to do, and the changes from SEO Tool did not show up on my site. So once again I deleted my website in iDisk and republished through SEO Tool, and this time my website uploaded to my iDisk, but when I went to my website it said that the mobileme site i am trying to access is unavailable in about 5 different languages.
anyone else have a problem like this at all and how did you fix it? I replublished to MobileMe using iWeb and my site is now up, but I would really like to use SEO Tool to get my sites ranking up.

I did apply meta tags to every page and I did republish to a folder using iWeb, but then I made the all of the changes I originally made using the re-apply all save changes button in SEO Tool, then republished to MoblieMe using SEO Tool.
The only one that makes sense is the 4th reason. Just yesterday, about the same time I started using SEO Tool, I also had my domain forwarded. I just checked on godaddy.com and it says that my domain is forwarded only and does not say anything about masking, but I will email them and see if thats the problem.
If it is NOT the problem, any ideas on what else it could be?
also, i dont know if this is relevant, but last night I started to have some publishing issues using iWeb. (This was after the SEO Tool incident, when I decided that a non-web search optimized site is better then not having one up at all) I started getting errors that said "could not publish, unknown problem occurred" and then i started getting "could not publish domain" But it did eventually start working properly again...
