SEO - how do search engines treat invisible text?

Hi,
I've created a website using Adobe Muse and to be able to include a lot of information in a small space, I've created an animated tabbed panel in Adobe Edge Animate.
I've started to go through the site to bump the SEO and I've realised that the text in the Edge animations are flattened - much like images.  For search engines to recognise and use the text, I thought I could duplicate the text and position it behind the background image or turn the opacity to [0] so the user cannot see the text.  Will search engines still recognise the text?  And if it does am I damaging my site if they see it as spam or black hat tricks?
I've also split a lot of the headings up into letters so each one can be animated separately - would search engines read this as one word or a string of unattached letters?  Again, I was thinking of creating a new text box with the word spelled out but with the opacity at [0].  Is this the best thing to do or are there better ways of doing this?
Thanks

No point in just slapping the text into a noscript tag. If there is no active JavaScript with matching content it is considered out of bounds just as well and search engines will not make anything of it. That being so, the answer is probably in your Edge file - you overdid it and instead of placing content natively in Muse using widgets crammed in everything there. So short of looking for fixes after the fact, you probably need to rethink your overall strategy and forego some fancy animations in favor of better searchability and user interaction.

  • How to search for the selected text with a non-default search engine?

    Hi,
Before the recent update of the search bar, you could select your "current" search engine, and a search for the selected text (right-click on selection) would use that engine.
Now, it seems that you can only search for the selected text using the default engine. If that's correct, this is a major step backwards for me. For instance, I can't have Google as my default search engine, and search for a selected text on eBay!
    Or am I missing something?
    Thanks!
    R.

I find this extension very useful for items selected on web pages. It offers all your search engines with select>right click.

  • My Word for Mac 2011 repeatedly fails to display certain text boxes if I apply text changes. How can I view the invisible text?

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8. I recently had to download Office for Mac 2011, as my company mandated this over my objections. On the first 20-page Word file I received, the file looked fine until I applied track changes and made the first edit. At that point, 2 pages of text disappeared (the entire file was Calibri 11 size). The disappearing text was all in a couple of text boxes separate from the rest of the file. If I did a search, it would point to the white screen, but I could not view it except in Web layout, which is unsuitable for track changes. Unfortunately, all my supervisors say they can see the text that I cannot see.
I know that Word 2011 is notorious for not reading fonts, but this file is all in the same font/size. How can I see the hidden text before I lose my job?

Have you tried Word for Mac?
You will need to test if links survive export or printing to .pdf

  • How does search engine actually works?

Dear all, just wondering how does the search engine in plumtree actually works. I mean whatever the folders, files, etc we upload to the sever database, will it place under it's own categories such that it's own engine will search faster? or is it all the folders, files, etc will dump into the final category? erm... get what i trying to say?
    thanks!

I suppose by "paging" you mean giving n results per page ?
Consider leaving out unneccesary information, eg. store only the id's for the elements in the search result and retreive the full data from the database as needed.
If even the id's takes up too much space, consider only storing enough for a couple of pages. Then redo the search if the user tries to access a page for which the id's are not stored. If most users only see the first page, and very few see for instance more than three pages, then this will save you a lot of storage, at a price of slightly inconveniencing the rare user who wants to see more than three pages of results.

  • How to search a SO10 - Standard text by Content

    Hi experts,
I have a standard text content. need to know how to identify the standard text object it is contained in.
Example: I have a form output which has Terms and Condition printed. The content has a word like URL:
texst.test.com. There are lot of standard text objects available in that form and many other forms. We are not able to find the corresponding standard text object.
So like to know whether it is possibel to search and find a standard text object by contect say URL:
    texst.test.com?
Let me know whether this is possible to do in SAP?
    thx
    Ganu

It is not possible to get the standard text header by searching the contents. The tables for standard texts are STXH and STXL. Data is stored in raw clustered format.
As Raveesh metioned, manually looking into the smartform (Windows/Templates) and then using FM READ_TEXT to confirm the contents.
Thats the best possible way to get the standard text details from the contents.

  • How come search engines still disappear after localstore.rdf is reset?

Well I keep adding Google and such to my search bar but with every start of Firefox they disappear again. I have already deleted the localstore.rdf and did a complete reinstall of Firefox but it has not helped

You can search on the <b>about:config</b> page to see if there are still prefs that link to delta-search and reset them via the right-click context menu.
If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:
You can also edit the prefs.js file in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed and removed those lines.

  • Can you make a menu for the right-click search so that when I highlight text and search, I can choose which search engine to use?

If you Highlight text you can right-click on it to pull up a short menu. One option is "Search x search engine for 'highlighted text'" Previously, the search engine selected would be whichever search engine was selected on the search bar, so Google or Amazon.com, etc. Because you can no longer change that selection before you search, the search engine is set to your default. Was an annoyance before, but now it's just a hindrance.

Strongly recommend Context Search extension which will solve your problem

  • Search Engine friendly text in Flash websites

Does anyone know if search engines pick up text (selectable text) like they do on html websites to get better rankings?
    Thanks in advance.
    Shaneo

From what I've read page ranking is mostly determined by the number of links referring to your site and links from high ranking sites like youtube myspace, Adobe Forums are especially valuable.  So if I put links to some of my pages here like http://jimslounge.com , http://charliegooddog.org or http://cybermountainwebservices.com or  http://cybermountainwebservices.com/date/ then they might get a slightly higher ranking.

  • Meta Tag or Search Engine related?

Most SE results only search and show what's in the
Description or Title meta tags. Do I need to do something specific
where the search engine will search the CONTENT of the pages,
rather than what's in the Meta tags, or is this just a trait of how
    some search engines work? Thanks!

Precisely! And that's why I was careful to not refer to it as
    such: "Title
    and Description tags"

  • Making my website search engine friendly

    Hi there
Hope somebody might be able to help me..
I am trying to make my website search engine friendly so that it lists the website, has a good ranking etc.
I have built my website with dreamweaver and some flash elements. I have used both flv content for streaming
video and swfs for information on certain pages.
The problem I have is that the website is totally built using AP divs with images inside (or the flash elements mentioned).
There is no text, unless it is contained within a jpeg, or swf.
I gather that search engines don't read images. So I have used alternative text for most of the
images, which I gather search engines, such as google, can read.
I have also used page titles, inserted html head tag descriptions and keywords.
Is there anything else I can do to make my website more search engine friendly?
Somebody told me that I should try to have hidden paragraphs of text, because it is important
that search engines have enough text to detect within my site..
Is is not enough that I have provided alt text for the images? Or should I include these hidden paragraphs of text..
    And if so, how?
Also, some of my AP div images contain quite a lot of text within them.. I notice that when inserting the image
into the AP div, it gives you the option to insert alternative text OR provide a url with a longer description contained
within it.. How does that work? Is the url a html document with text inside?
Please let mne know if you have any ideas regarding any of this.
    Regards
    Sarah

Is is not enough that I have provided alt text for the images? Or
should I include these hidden paragraphs of text..  And if so, how?
Alt text is for web accessibility.  Say your image doesn't load, alt="description"  appears in the browser to give visitors some idea of what the missing image is.  Similarly, Screen Readers express Alt text to people who cannot see images.
Will putting alt text on images improve your Google ranking?  Not all by itself.   Alt is no substitute for good old fashioned content inside HTML headings <h1> <h2> <h3>, paragraphs and lists.
Put keyword rich content on your site.  Use Flash Object swapping to show Flash to people who have support for it.  Everyone without Flash, including engines, screen readers and translators will get the HTML version.  If JavaScript is disabled, both versions will display.

  • How can I find and change text in Hyperlinks?

I have 6000 hyperlinks in my document, I need to change all of the "&" they contain (in the url destination, not in the textflow) to "%26" so I can export to Epub correctly (I'm getting the classic "Export failed" and found out in forums that ampersands in hyperlinks are the problem).
Can this replacement be automated? Maybe with Javascript? I just don't know how to search just through hyperlinks' text (url).
    Thanks a lot.

It's perfect! Thanks a lot again!
