(SEO) Improving Search Engine Rankings with FB4/Flex 4 (spark)

Is FB4/Flex 4/spark components doing work to make Flash RIA sites searchable?

Hi,
We are not doing anything specific in Spark to enable more searchability, we are still waiting on the search engines to continue to improve their implementations to support loading content dynamically which will then expose the text that is on the screen.  We do have some thoughts on things we can do with deep linking to help promote structure to the search engines in the future, but that would also require cooperation with the engines and isn't something we can do entirely on our own.

  • Free iWeb SEO Tool to Help Improve Search Engine Rankings

    Hi,
    I have just posted a free iWeb SEO Tool that will let you add and edit all your meta tags and header information, as well as a few other important search engine optimization factors. Here is a brief description of what it can do;
iWeb SEO Tool is the only software that makes it easy to get your iWeb built website ready for search engines.
Since Apple has often neglected key SEO strategies in their iWeb software, it is difficult for many iWeb based websites to rank high in search engines. This is why we have created this free utility to help you properly optimize your website.
    Features include;
    1) Easily add meta tags such as description and keywords
    2) Edit your title tags for each pages
    3) Add robot rules and language meta tags
    4) Add alternative text for images
    5) All settings are saved in a private database so next time you publish your site you can take all the saved SEO copy and apply to your new site
    6) Edit sites locally or directly on your iDisk
    I am looking for feedback on this tool to see how useful it can be. If you find any problems, please let me know. You can download this tool by creating a free beta testers account at;
    http://www.trybeta.com/home/
Please let me know if this is useful for anyone. It is completely free for all iWeb users.
*I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link*
    <Edited by Moderator>

    1. To publish to .Mac just mount your iDisk and go to Web/Sites/ and you will see your old site there. Delete that site and just copy your new site to the location.
    2. Just press the load from iDisk button in the toolbar and enter your username and password. Your sites from your iDisk will load in iWeb SEO Tool.

  • Sun One Search Engine Integration with the Fatwire Content Server

    Hello everyone,
I am presently using Fatwire(Divine) Content Server. I have uploaded certain documents using Fatwire flex attributes(metadata). I want to use portal search engine for implementing Full Text Search of uploaded documents. how can i map metadata(attribute) of fatwire/divine content server with the portal server search engine metadata.
I hope someone might have tried it earlier while integrating content server with the portal. please give me some suggestions in this regard.

    Hi,
I don't know about the metadata mapping,
but you can definitely index the FatWire local
data directory with the search engine.
Just specify "file:///.../<fatwiredir>" as starting point for your search robot.
    Cheers,
    Alex :-)

  • I want to report a browser hijack by one of the "themes", Aerofox. When it updated, it attempted to hijack my search engine preferences with "bing". This theme needs to be removed at once!

    Aug 18, 2010

    Aerofox Theme
The above mentioned theme attempted to hijack my search engine preference by installing "bing" on my system. I was forced to block the attempt, and in doing so caused an exceptional fault failure. I was not able to recover the error #. This forced a "hard" boot of my system in order to get FireFox operational again. I then found that bing had been installed anyway. I take GREAT exception to this, and after uninstalling, cleaning and rebooting I am once again one with FireFox and Google.
I request an immediate removal of the theme Aerofox from the mozilla offerings until such time as the "bing" search engine hijack can be removed from its' update.
I consider ANY program that installs itself without foreknowledge or permission to be a hijack. At least post a warning on the theme.

    Hi Developer_46038,
if for example all the properties and object are stated as list, i think there is a tool that overcome cross list.

  • Integrating Search Engine Service with SAP R/3

    Folks,
We are in the process of researching enhancements for search features available in SAP R/3 4.7.
One of the options is the SAP NetWeaver Application Server Enterprise Search's Search Engine Service feature with which I believe any SAP application (including SAP R/3) can perform fuzzy search for their business objects for instance Customer master data.
I have seen an article on SDN which talks about enabling the same for mySAP ERP 2005. Can someone tell me if the same is advisable for SAP R/3.
Here's the link to the article for reference.
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/a751a1ec-0a01-0010-f0ba-89e4c5cd0261
Any pointers on this would be appreciated. In addition to these pointers to any other options available within SAP R/3 to enable fuzzy search for customer and it's attributes (address etc.) would be useful. Please note we are not looking at using third party licensed products for the same yet.
    Thanks,
    -Priyapravas

    Hi Priyapravas,
With the SAP NW Enterprise Search 1.0 we are supporting (out of the box) search for a bunch of Business objects like Customer, Vendor etc..  with the help of SES. SES is a part of the NW2004s and ERP 2005.  For the earlier R/3 versions above 4.6 we are providing the search functionality on Business Objets by leveraging the  BI extractor mechanism and TREX.  Also to a large extent existing BAPI can be leveraged for searching the backend.
So as you see no matter what SAP backend you have in place the Enterprise search has or  will soon have a solution for you and you dont have to even look at a 3rd party licenced product.

I'm a coldfusion programmer that is used to creating sites

and how does everyone work around this?
Finally, how does performance work on a flex website? I can

about hardware and upgrades. Will I have issues with flex? How well
    does Flex scale?

  • Search Engines, SEO & Spry

Being somewhat new to the Spry framework, I am curious how
Spry will work with search engines and SEO.
I noticed Adobe's Periodic Table Spry example (very cool,
    btw!) at
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/demos/periodic_table/periodic_table.htm
and decided to Google "periodic table spry" for the result. This is
    what appears":
    Spry Periodic Table
Element Types: {Element_Type}. Periods (rows): {Period}.
    Groups (columns): {Group}. Show All. {No} {Group}. {Symbol}.
    {Atomicweight}. {No} {Group}. {Symbol} ...
    labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/demos/periodic_table/periodic_table.htm
    - 37k -
Cached - Similar pages - Note this
It looks as if Google reads the Spry code and not the full
content of the page, and as such, may not work well with SEO and
search engine page rank, let alone presenting an unreadable content
blurb to the search user in the Google result.
Does anyone have any intimate experience with this topic?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Geronimosan,
The only way to make sure that your pages are "indexable" by
search engines is to use the progressive enhancement technique. You
can read more about how to use Spry in an progressive enhancement
manner on our Best Practices page:

  • How do I improve Seo rankings with Iweb

Hi and thanks for ANY advice you may have. I am a total novice and have used Iweb to create a great website which I upload with mobileme. I need to increase my SEO ranking and have no idea how to do this. I barely understand what a metatag is but my business depends on it! So please, can someone explain to me in small steps what to do!
    Thank you so much!

While it's true that solid content, and quality backlinks play a large factor in a site's rankings, this doesn't mean that the basics of SEO should be ignored. It's true that Google does not rely on meta keywords for ranking sites, but that in no way implies that other search engines do not rely on them either.
SEO is not just changing your title tags and meta tags. There's much more to it. All of the on-page optimizations, as star-fish said, we have control over. This means that if we have specific keywords in mind that we want to rank for, then we must place these keywords on our site. Not just in our content, but in our title tags, in our alt-images (if relevant) and in various places around our sites such as in our headers. There's also things about SEO that we need to know in order to not get our site banned by Google for doing unethical things.
So whether or not a site is poorly designed with little or no relevant content, SEO is still something that you need to do for your site. You need to do this in order to achieve success or realize failure. If you do realize failure, then it will just be a lesson learned and you will know that changes need to be made.
Roddy and Wyodor both have sites with high quality content. That has been their go-to for attracting site visitors. Which has been working very well for them. But this in itself is also SEO, as they have been mentioning. Some sites do take this approach, where they have established their sites and can rely on the content they create to attract visitors. Not every website will be in that same situation, so optimizing their websites is still something that should be done via the other various methods of SEO.
So don't rely so much on meta keywords, as many people think you should, but make sure to incorporate as many SEO techniques on your site as you can, and of course, like Roddy and Wyodor said, make sure you have lots of quality content, and you will be sure to start getting traffic from search engines.

  • Flex and search engines

    Hi all,
I looked at old messages, but couldnt really find an answer in recent subjects.
I had my website in HTML before, and it was pretty high indexed in all the search
engines. Now I moved exactly the same information into a flex application and
it can't be found on the same positions anymore in the search engines.
What can I do to get back my old rating ?
Do I have to put the source open ? Or can it be found with hidden code as well ?
    Thanks for all info.
    regards,
    Patrick

  • If I host with Business Catalyst, will search engines fine me any "better" or Worse than go daddy?

If I host with Business Catalyst, will search engines fine me any "better" or Worse than go daddy?
I am new to Muse and love it! Not sure if the hosting site matters one way or the other.

Liam has some great points. Some other things to consider is that google (just talking one search engine at the moment) more than likely know what a BC site looks like and is made of and would know the best ways to index it assuming you use some of the features of BC and not just straight up HTML.
Godaddy is straight up HTML so as far as indexing goes I think BC has an advantage as it is a known system much like wordpress.
As far as IP blocks, bad neighbours, etc only google will know that information and it's not easy to say which is better.
For example if someone on BC spam's there website everywhere or engages in dodgy SEO practises, spambots etc. Their site is going to be pushed down, if you happen to be on the same IP or close to that site you will be in a "bad neighbourhood" and it may affect your site in the short term. This is the case for ANY hosting solution, so take it all with a gain of salt.

  • How to improve the performance for integrating third party search engine

    hi,
I have been working on integrating verity search engine with KM. the performance for retrieving search result totally depend on how many search result returned, for example if there is less than 10 records, it only takes 3 seconds, but if there are 200 records, it takes about 3 minutes, is it normal? anyway to improve it? Thanks!
    T.J.

    Thilo,
thanks for the response, would you recommend some document for configuring KM cache service, I did change memory cache, and also dynamic web reposity, whatelse out there that I can change? right now, I have one instance(EP6.4 sp11) works well, it returns 200 records from Stellent within 6s. But when I put this KM global service on EP6.0 sp2 (our current system) it takes about 15s. I am not sure is this because of different EP version, or something else. I have tried my best to slim down SOAP component from Stellent. I don't think anything else can be done from that side anymore. before I changed the SOAP, it tooks about 60s. just wonder what else I can do on KM side to improve it performance? Thanks!
    T.J.

  • Issues with integrating third party search engine

    hi,
    I have two issues.
    1. my integration with Stellent verity search engine is working for the first time, but when I search again, nothing return, even on the same search criteria. I wonder something wrong with session object, please explain how session, rawsession object works related to getSearchResult(). session object is returned instead rawsession in executeQueryWithSession(), even though rawSearchResult has been set on rawSession.
    2. it is very slow for the search result to return, though all the URL are valid. any way to improve the speed?
    thanks!
    T.J.

    Hi T.J.,
the session object itself is normally not the problem. Have you checked that your dynamic WebRM has ha valid cache life time? Nevertheless the cache for the dynamic WebRM should have a life time value of at least 1 min or more (depending on how long you expect your users to browse on the search result)
The performace of the federated search depends on the call time to each connected search engine. It can currently only speed up by the implementation of your search engine. Try to measure the connect time from the IndexService implementation to the search engine. In most cases this is the bottle neck.

  • Flex store example + deep linking search engine question or LocalShared objects

hi, i wanna make a onlineshop site.
i'm wondering what would be the best approach.
if you use the adobe demo ...
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/samples/flex_store/
+ some other MXML and ActionScript tricks and build a 1 app web.
on a old style website you would have the basic 5 pages + a page for every product.
witch can be easily indexed by a search engine.
as everyone knows, the more pages you have, the greater the chance is that some search engine will show your article/product, depending the keywords of the person is using (+ some other factors).
i know that google can index in SWF files.
but i don't think they will actually execute the application you made and scan all products you offer via the 'Flex Store' demo.
the cool part about 'Flex Store' demo, you user doesn't need to wait for page loads.
i have understood, that local shared object's can only the used by the same application.
i would like to have some input from you guys.
because i think the Flex Store demo rock, especialy the product compare and price search options.
    kind regards
