Separate 2 libraries in 1 account

Hi there,
I have one account, with which I buy music for me and my partner, I have set up 2 libraries one each. The trouble I am having is that even though I have these 2 libraries, itunes will not separate the media, ie. I don't care for tina turner, so don't want it in my library, but it will show in both libraries. I have moved it to separate folders, ie. library a and library b and pointed to each library from each libraries preferences but it still opens with both libraries media in both libraries. So basically all I want is 1 account, 2 libraries (with media separated), itunes website appears to be pretty much useless when trying to get information you need so I am hoping that someone here might be able to help.
P.S. I am using Win 7

As Drew suggests, start a new Windows user account for one of you.
Copy the entire iTunes folder into the new account.
The partner can go thru their copy and delete what they don't want.  And you go thru yours and delete Tina Turner and whatever else you don't want.
Going forward, you can each use your own library in your own user account, and add/delete whatever music you want, independently of the other.

  • 3 user accounts on Mac with separate iTunes libraries

I have 3 user accounts on a Mac with separate iTunes libraries.  Home sharing is turned on for all 3 and all use the same home sharing login Apple ID).  On both Apple TV 2's all 3 libraries appear under "computers", however, only one is accesible (always the account that has been first opened on the computer) with the others saying "Could not connect to "xx Library".  When I have one home sharing turned on for this computer it is always accesible from the Apple TV and I can open up iTunes with the same home sharing ID from another Mac in the home and it will appear on the Apple TV with no problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your response ckuan.  These 3 libraries are using separate user accounts on the computer and when all 3 accounts have itunes open at the same time, the iPads have no problem seeing all 3 itunes libraries through home sharing, and for a brief moment yesterday, I was able to get one of the Apple TV's to connect to all 3, however that did not last long before only one was available and the other two eded up having the "could not connect error".  Do you have any other ideas?  I have already submitted this problem to Apple as I am sure that before the update (whether it was the Apple TV update or the iTunes update) I had no problem doing this.

You cannot merge two separate libraries across user accounts. Photos does not have the function of merging different Photos.library files. If you have Aperture then you can merge the two before migrating over to Photos.

I have 2 ipods on same account( 2 different kids in household) how can I separate them into 2 different accounts?

There are actually a few methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above:
Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library. If you've had no success with this you can have a look through the guide on this page: Loading songs onto iPod automatically
Another option when using a single library is to set one or both of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod
You can read about Windows user accounts here: Using Windows XP User Accounts

  • Separate itune libraries on 1 mac computer

I am wanting 2 separate itunes libraries on my computer or something similar, where files are separate and using my music group won't interfere with using my wife's.  Can someone help?
I have tried numerous suggestions that I "googled" but none seemed to be any help whatsoever.

Quit itunes, and then reopen while holding down option. it will promp you to quit, choose a library, or create a new library. Click create a new library, and name it something you can find easily later. I reccomend that you save it in /home folder/music. Import media you want to, and you are good to go. When you want to change libraries, launch itunes holding option, and click choose library. Choose the library you want to open. You can also just create a new user account.

Each device only syncs waht you select.
Select only what you want for each phone.

    Coastal,
Frank gave you the exact answer to your question.
However, I would like to ask if you are indeed asking the right question.  Do you really want different libraries?  The implications are that you have to "switch" libraries to see what's in the others, and so that your searches don't work across all of your pictures?  If so, then you asked the right question.  If not, you may be more interested in relocating your masters to multiple hard drives so your library gets smaller, instead of breaking up the library.

Why, if it told you you have insufficient space on your computer, would it suggest making more space available on your phone?
At a guess, you have insufficient space on your phone. Installing software will typically require more space than the final size of the software, perhaps even twice or three times as much, for the installation process. You can easily dump some videos or music temporarily, and then synch them back in afterwards.

  • Multiple libraries or multiple accounts ?

    Hi,
At the moment, everybody in the family is using my apple ID and it's getting difficult to manage because I don't want to share my password to avoid high expenses and also when the kids get older, it will be a problem.
So I need to know which is better for my family's future : multiple libraries on one account or creating different users on my computer with different itunes accounts ?
Also if I have different accounts, can I share music and apps ?
    Thanks

I recommend you get her her own iTunes account for purchasing from the iTunes store.
You/she can add gift cards instead of using your credit card so you won't have to worry about how much she purchases.
should I just have one account and create a new library for her music and videos?
Create her own iTunes account and create her own library by creating a new computer login for her.
She will have her own iTunes library in her own computer account.

  • I have multiple users on my computer with separate iTunes libraries.  can we share?

I have multiple users on my computer with separate iTunes libraries.  Is it possible to share the libraries?  The "share library" preference doesn't seem to work.

Hi b noir, I also have two users on one pc with two different iTunes libraries.  But I also want to put them onto an external hard drive so that I can free up some memory on the pc.  So I figure I need to consolidate the two users iTunes libraries first before moving to hard drive?  But not quite sure how to do that on the iTunes 11?  Thanking you in advance!!

Copy the content from one computer to another and import the media into iTunes.
Any playlists, playcounts, etc on the computer the content is being moved from will be lost.

    Hi dprette,
When setting up iTunes to share a single music library between multiple user accounts on one computer you should follow the steps in this article -

  • Consolidating 2 Libraries from 2 Accounts

My daughter had an old iMac loaded with tunes that was linked to my account. Before she left for college I backed up her iPhoto and iTunes libraries on a hard-drive. The directory on her iMac was corrupted and the computer crashed (I was later able to get it working by reinstalling OSX). In the meantime she was promised a new MacBook for graduation but I advised her to wait because of the rumor mill about new MacBooks. Well, I had her new MacBook delivered when they came out and she is happy as a clam except she wants to use her old iTunes library. When she got the new MacBook she activated it under a new account, hers, not mine where her old music was purchased, and started buying new music (about 25 songs).
*My concern is if we consolidate the libraries under her account the DRM will prevent the old songs on the new computer from playing. The only alternative I can think of is to 1) copy the 25 songs to DVD/CD to remove DRM 2) copy old library to her new computer 3) copy 25 DRM free songs to old library 4) change the account on the new computer to mine.*
Any other thoughts or ideas? Am I over thinking this?
    Thanks for any guidance.

No magical, "Oh computer, take the content on these 3 things and collect it all together nicely in one place making sure it is all labeled correctly with artwork and no duplicates."  It is designed so the computer was the original source. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991  Added note: Sometimes the results are not pretty and such software is often intended for emergency use.

How to separate joint Apple ID's account using different mails and passwords

    Hello ROOOS,
When you speak of a joint Apple ID account it seems you mean a shared Apple ID.
Frequently asked questions about Apple ID - Apple Support
Can I share my Apple ID with someone else?
You shouldn't share your Apple ID account information with other people. Each person should have their own Apple ID.
To eliminate the share one will keep it and the others will create their own Apple IDs.
